This was so helpful, but let's say, I don't like the placement or the font style. After I data merge, can I change the merged text with a different typeface or position? Thanks!
I would make the changes, and just redo the data merge personally. But InDesign does have Character and Paragraph styles that will allow you to change the font style throughout the document easily. As far as position, I think you would have to redo it.
I love your channel. I have CS 6 Suite with PS, ID, AI, and Acrobat. My husband and i do photography and have used Photoshop for years. I’m trying to learn InDesign and gave made a newsletter based off on template I downloaded, and made a calendar from scratch with some internet help. I don’t really know where to begin. Someone talking about the calendar said to make a master page, so I did, but I don’t know why or how to use it. Using the template for the newsletter was great, but I didn’t understand enough to make changes when I wanted to. Where do you suggest I start to learn InDesign systematically? Styles look like they’ll be great. I have a feeling layers are going to be different than they are in Photoshop. Thank you for you videos. I’ve subscribed and will devour and try to absorb as much as I can.
Thank you so much! InDesign and Illustrator are somewhat similar, but they are so different from Photoshop in the way they work - as you assumed, layers are used much less (at least for me-some spend all their time in the Layers window, but I wouldn't recommend it...because it is so very time consuming to make changes there). Master pages are used when you want the same objects on multiple pages. With your calendar, an example would be the calendar grid lines. They'll be on almost every page, and they're always exactly the same. So I would put the grid on a master page, then apply that master to every page that needs a grid, if that makes sense. That way you don't have to add it 12 times, and if you need to change the stroke width of the grid, you can do it one time on the master page, and it updates in all 12 places. Hope this helps!!
@@GDHT Thank you for that helpful reply. I'm just on the beginning of my inDesign journey. I hope to learn lots more. It's so hard to know where to start!
Can you let me know what you're trying to create? With most data merge documents, the info would be repeated across all pages...so I'm not sure why you would want Facing Pages like a booklet.
@@GDHT I have already Master Page used for "Dotted Notes" and "Dates" applied to all planner. Prob just with days, You know it's hard to put Days manually to all 365 pages.
I'm just confused about how to generate the QR of a specific link? like we don't need complete info through the QR, just an external link will goto IG or something. its around 1400 cards, and different link (QR code)

Hi there, I don't have one yet, but I'll add it to the list!

@@robynolfert You're welcome! Yes, it's true, it's hard when you're first getting started!!
Thank you so much,
My question is, How can you do that for document with "Facing Pages"?

@@GDHT Thank you for your reply.
for example, the Daily planner, used sequentially days "Monday -- Tuesday" , "Wednesday -- Thursday" ...
Instead of Data Merge, I would use Master Pages for this: th-cam.com/video/A_X-__ZdSKo/w-d-xo.html

@@ahmedbourja3136 ahhh ok I see! I found a video that looks like it would be helpful: th-cam.com/video/iejQCbMwLDM/w-d-xo.html
I have a similar project I want to use this technique for but each card would have a headshot of the person. Is that possible to do in a merge?
Yes, I'll be making a video soon about this. Until then, here's a related video that should help: th-cam.com/video/JRfcX-rdXDc/w-d-xo.html

I don't know if you can automate making the QR codes, but this could work by using an image merge, I think!
😍😍😍
