- The brand new Range Rover meets the Mercedes-Benz S Class in a battle for the best car in the world honours. The Range Rover we have here is the long wheelbase Autobiography priced at Rs 3.16 crore and has the D350 diesel engine. The Mercedes is the S350d that is assembled in India, also with the diesel engine, and is priced at Rs 1.67 crore. Can the Range Rover justify being priced nearly twice as much as the Mercedes? Not that long ago luxury cars were big, cumbersome and painful to drive. But the new Range Rover and S-Class, despite becoming much bigger, are so much nicer to drive, so much more agile and they even go round corners carrying some serious speed!
In your narration, at times you are just lost in the Rover that I could sense the excitement.

Personally I feel the Range Rover would've had an even better ride quality had they been on 19s or 20 inch wheels. Apparently the one you drove here was on 22" low profile tyres.. I'm sure more sidewalls would've made an even bigger difference especially on our roads. The S-class here seems to be on 19s which is why you felt a better ride overall. Theoretically the Rangie should be more comfortable as it has greater suspension travel as well.

I dont get this, a Mercedes' GLS 400d costs 'just' 1.4CR when compared to the price tag of 3CR for the base variant of Range Rover 3L Diesel SE
Even if it is bigger, has more features, rear axle steering etc.

Who compares a luxury 4x4 with a luxury sedan? just because they price above a cr you decide to compare them this is insulting to both the cars? this is just bad. At the least you should have compared a G-Class with the Range Rover.
I would choose the RR,
I have a low ground clearance car and number of times I have held up traffic trying to negotiate speed bumps and had my heart in my mouth when the car was scrapping the road, our roads just don't suited for sedans.
