  • From northern New Brunswick, I make my way south to meet the crew from North Bound Expeditions, who take me on a tour of some remote four-wheel drive destinations along the Bay of Fundy. We encounter abundant deep water and mud. Thereafter, I return to Maine to prepare for a family visit and enjoy a lovely evening outside of Walmart.

Awesome video with some nice Canadian guys ! You're just like a typical Canadian Chris, you're kind, cautious about stuff and adventurous. A really good tip I got years ago when I used to go four wheeling was to spray dielectric grease into all of the plugs and connections throughout the truck. from front to back, lights and all. Disconnect the battery first and then unplug each one, spray it, plug it back in and move on to the next. Yes it's time consuming but if you're doing water crossings it's a good idea. Some of the sensor plugs under the hood might not even be water resistant connectors. I lived in Saint John New Brunswick for a couple of years when I was a kid.

Hi Venture - We met last year briefly in Watson Lake YT, I have the Crush Orange 13 JKUR with the massive toolbox on the roof rack. My sway bar disconnect has also failed repeatedly - I actually drilled out the rivets to get inside the electrical side to figure out what goes on. Water bypasses the sway bar seals to enter the electrical side, flooding, filling it, and of course rotting it out. What I did with mine was blew all the water and corrosion out and drowned it in WD40; then silicone and bolted it back up. If I were to do similar to a 'known good' unit Id likely use some sort of spray on corrosion inhibitor, then replace the rivets with bolts and nuts to be able repeat the process annually. That said, I *never* use the sway bar actuator; I found it to be a massive liability (the roll is horrific) on road and no real noticeable difference to my rig off road. You ever make it back up here, would be good to do some wheeling!

Amazing episode, Chris! That two hour trail drive was well worth the effort. I also store clothes on the floor of my Jeep, Chris. I store them in large 55gl contractor bags and after countless water crossings nothing has gotten wet or even moist after rolling the ends and securing them with a small strip of duck tape.

  • @uweschroeder

What you need is a gasket/seal around that flange so no water goes in and I'd put dielectric grease on the connector - liberally. The electric sway bar disconnect has a history of failing with water crossings simply because it's not waterproof - and in my book that's a major shortcoming for something that sits under a 4x4 off road vehicle. You should get a pneumatic disconnect - those actually work and you do have a compressor on board these days.
For me: I have manual quick disconnects and while it's a slight hassle to stop, get out, disconnect and sometimes having to rock the boat to reconnect, they work every time no questions asked, wet or not. Just lube them liberally and they're born ready.
Had to show this episode to my wife - she's not that much into off-roading except as a necessary evil to get to nice places, but she's very much into sixpacks - LOL
