    Thanks for this video. It shows some of the not so fun stuff that we go through to get what we really want. Like you said it was a learning experience however because of your video you may have helped someone to avoid making this same mistake. To me that's what this community is all about. Since you are tired of road debris spraying all over your truck you’ll need to install fender flairs on your truck if you return to the same width of the new tires because you’ll end up in the same situation that you are currently in. Speaking from experience! I know you really don’t like fender flairs however neither one of us like stock width wheels and tires so I’ve always chosen the lesser of two evils and went with paint matched fender flairs and it always turned out looking good. I’m currently running the Ford F-450/550 factory fender flairs on an F-250 because I kind of like the looks of them. Good luck, always enjoy your videos.

    I wonder if that tie rod end has enough thickness that you could just remove some material from it? Then move the weights over a bit. Those 17s would be nice.

  • @bmkjeep
    @bmkjeep 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rotational mass is definitely something to consider. Toyo/ Nitto tires are very heavy for their sizes. That’s why I went with the BFG KO2’s they are very light for the size. I’m have 37’s and they were considerably lighter. if I remember right there were like 5 or more pounds lighter per tire. Also you can save a lot of weight on the wheels. Methods/ ICON wheels are a good option.

  • @gman3563
    @gman3563 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally! I love the more tire look. I have always gone 17s. Truck looks bad ass! Also the issue with the caliper can be avoided by buying a wheel that's designed to fit the f150s calipers. The icon compression and rebound is designed for that. NVM I should have watched farther.. tie rod hitting the inside... Damn that really sucks Mike..

  • @zedned2452
    @zedned2452 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Installing E rated tires, or even D rated, kills performance on F150s. MPGs go down the drain. The stiffer higher rated tires (D and E) ruins the ride. I learned this the hard way as well. Unsprung weight such as wheels and tires also may cause premature wear to the suspension. It would have been nice to keep the 17s because that would have allowed you to get the ONLY 4 ply 35” tire which is the BFG made exclusively for the Raptor.

  • @willemvandernest3249
    @willemvandernest3249 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I experienced a similar problem a long time ago. I managed to solve it by getting tie rods that were thicker that installed from the the bottom up. We took the knuckles and machined it so that the the ball of the tie rod could install from the bottom up into the knuckle. It was a costly operation but it worked quite well

  • @rayzin4
    @rayzin4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Mike you can refinish the scratched wheel to fix the knuckle rub so you can get your money back minus the wheel finish cost. That might be your best solution so you get your money's worth. Shouldn't cost too much to sand out the inner wheel barrel and get it painted since you know many different shops.

  • @robsolf
    @robsolf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep... I discovered the wheel weight phenomenon when I was checking the stock wheel assembly weights of the Jeep sahara vs. the rubi. I was expecting a huge diff between the 17's and 20's, but with tires, they were within a few pounds of each other. When we're talking about performance cars, a 17" setup and a 20" setup would have major differences, but not on a truck, where the tire has to be near bulletproof.

    I had something similar happen on my truck but mine cleared and was all good for a long time but it was very very tight clearance then the tie rod got some miles on it and started to wear and got a little loose (I'm guessing). Once that happened it scraped like yours did but it also destroyed the tie rod.

I have the Intimidator but I went with a 17 x 9 x 0 on my 2005 Silverado and a 285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler. They have the tires, or usually do. Also have a whole new group of rim designs. Check them out. Might be some you like and could get quickly and that you'd like in an 18 from them. Beefy rotor/caliber setup and then the ball raises you up but I wouldn't think it would be THAT big of an issue.
