the discovery that people are just buying bag charms from amazon was so comforting to me as I had thought all of these people just had wildly more interesting lives than me to where they had collected all of these knick knacks on their adventures
Oh my pls i LOVE this comment bc I was never sure why I felt so envious of this trend and this is EXACTLY the feeling I got!! Thank you for this bc oh my same, lol pls be my therapist xxxx
@@chunkygrass no absolutely! and ik that's where the trend started decorating your bags has been around forever - love that for the collectors - but it's nice to know that you're not the only one with a boring bag lol
I started doing the bag charm thing a couple of years ago because it was really popular with K-pop idols and i thought it looked cute….I only have three. One my dad got for me in Italy in 2008, one was a gift from my best friend, and one I bought at a night market in Chinatown in NYC. I will probably keep these on my bags even after the trend dies down because they actually have sentimental value. I feel like this trend was about feeling something and fast tracking your way on amazon just makes it soulless and unsustainable. Thus, completely defeating the purpose of a trend that was supposed to be about displaying lovingly curated items that make your bag feel more personal.
buying them on amazon is bizarre to me! I have been putting charms on my bags for at least 6 years but the "trend" did encourage me to put more than one at a time on them! I do enjoy this trend and will continue to use charms thusly. I do love collecting trinkets so it's been a nice way to actually use and display them.
10/10 no notes. Nothing is timeless and you like what you like - it can’t be helped. To avoid trend-based purchases, you just have to limit your exposure to them, and continue wearing boring comfortable clothes you already like.
@ yeah I got those because everyone told me they are timeless and I never wore them because they bored me to tears and made me look like I’m in between job interviews. What’s timeless for someone is not necessarily what’s timeless for you.
Everything is a trend (or was and will be) nothing is timeless. You just need to find what you want and taking a distance from current trends will help you. So videos like this are very helpful in that regard. Like any form of art, fashion items have its predecessors and descendants. Dont buy into trends and overconsume and bring yourself the fun of waiting and being bored with what you have. Personal style is not a final destination. ❤
3:17 Finally! I am so sick of hearing even very conscious/slow fashion influencers justifying the accumulation of all the new trends because they are “timeless”. Then we see videos emerging like the “react to my old outfits” where we can clearly see that the items bought years ago are not timeless. Thank you for pointing that out
i feel like some of these comparisons could be used as a reminder that you don't need to buy a new item if you still own something similar from an old trend. you want to spruce up your bag with keychains? go and find that furball thing you have lying at the bottom of your drawer, i bet it's still gonna fit into the new trend! i recently decided to paint a fawn hide pattern onto my old sherpa coat (it turned out amazing!) and i love how i can just refresh a dated item and try out a new trend at the same time. with just a bit of creativity you can still have fun and participate in whatever trend you like without buying anything new, and you're probably gonna end up with something way more unique than what everyone else is wearing. it's so much better both for the environment and your pocket to just keep wearing the things you already own, and we should all work together to dismantle the idea that wearing old trends is something to be ashamed of. let's wear our clothes for as long as they can perform their function, not just as long as they're trending.
you are so spot on and i totally agree with your points. trends that get picked up on by fast fashion get left in the dust! literally just buy everything in person it becomes sooooo much more personal unique and sentimental. there’s no comparison. thrifting or going to a market or a yard sale or just a department store you’re simply finding things that are not available online. soooo much better. And yes 100% buy it because you love it! not because it’s trending.
this is so entertaining to watch as a person with no clue about what is trendy right now - everytime you named the dated trend I thought to myself 'oh I thought that is still going strong‘… don’t know how I got here, but your vids are also really fun for not-(yet)-fashion girlies (and guys, I’m sure)

nothing ages a trend faster than being made out of cheap garbage fabric that wears like it's in a race to disintegrate. I think sherpa could've been a timeless thing, if they were selling real shearling and not acrylic that looks terrible after three wears! same with faux fur coats, honestly
I never buy stuff to keep up with trends, because I know by the time I've heard of it it's already over! 😂 I'm not above digging through my mom's basement on Thanksgiving to see if she still has my old faux fur lined suede jacket though...
I’m quite winded at the gym taking a break so this may be a long comment but i adore my 3 Sherpa jackets & bags, still am dying for a jodie, kept my 2 silk bombers from 2016, and will wear whatever sneaker i still have at home. HOWEVER, 1) it’s so damn disappointing to see girls wearing a new colorful shoe every week, especially sports shoes (when they don’t even play one, I’ve seen someone try to wear rugby cleats outside in NYC) 2) overconsume the hell out of bag charms that everyone else has, they’re supposed to be unique and nobody acknowledges how much of it came from Asian street style in the first place (not you!!) 3) tire of these items and resell for obscene amounts regardless. deer print is absolutely next! I’ve seen so many depop scammers hop on this train :( much love xx
I’ve had a short fur coat for the past 5 years 😭😭 I always found them significantly more timeless than the teddy bobble fur coats/jackets. Least I never liked them
The leopard print is so True. As soon as i saw ppl wearing it on jeans ik it was bad😅 cause it just really has always looked horrible on bottoms and shoes, tops are cute though. I have this theory that certain things like patterns and fabrics will almost always only look on certain items, like fur on outerwear will always be lovely and chunky or just not finely knitted fabric on skirts and pants are just the ugliest thing ever 🤢
Love these vids it’s honestly fascinating to see how trend cycles work. Those pics of the teddy fur coats gave me chills lmao I remember buying into that & absolutely hating it literally a month later. Whenever I shop these days I always think about the experience of passing it down to my kids one day..n I feel like it’s helped me be more selective and really think about what I like. Wanna be a cool mom lol.
I also notice that a lot of these micro trends ARE things that have been around for ages (if thats how we are defining 'timeless') but the people who have continued to wear them outside of trend cycles are often considered 'unfashionable'. For example, I see a lot of things that start to trend that have their roots in alternative fashion movements, or even more often being worn by people who are either low income or cultures and subcultures that are looked down upon in our society. I think its really interesting to see how people react to trends because of this, as it really makes you wonder if they know that the people they were looking down on just a few years ago are the people they are now copying
Maybe the word timeless is to encourage us to spend the money for trends and we justify buying it because we think it will be in style for years to come, ;) thank you Ash
We truly do forget how things come and go. Yes, checkerboard print has come and gone at least a gazillion times. Same with leopard print. Let’s not forget Bob Dylan’s 1966 (or was it 1965?) ‘It Girl’ anthem “Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat” ! Even then, I do believe, the leopard skin fad was a throwback from the late ‘40s - early ‘50s.
I want a teddy sherpa coat so baddd but they’re not turning up in charity shops! People must still like them. I want people to hate them more so I can obtain one
Definitely interesting seeing some of these throwbacks !! And oh my goodness the pompoms, I remember begging my mum to get me one for my hype backpack in high school and all the girls would dangle them on their river island handbags. Bag charms are definitely a unique trend at the moment - this idea of trinketification in general. Have you heard about the current Labubu craze? People are lining up outside of popmarts from 4am to get ahold of the bag charm blind boxes
All these mystery charms remind me of Gogos (idk if u have heard of them but they were a BIG part of my early childhood hahahha) what I don’t like about it is that it is a trend and it’s turning what for some people was a way to show their passion and interests into a consumer nightmare :’(( thank you so much for being here xxxxxx
I saw a beautiful imitation fur coat at Zara yeaaars ago, and if I see one again, or similar, I will definitely buy it, but not because they're trendy, and that's the difference
In the end, just buy something YOU like, and not what is feed to you by the media. I love black and white prints, so i know, i will forever love my cow print/ zebra print/ striped/polka dots stuff. I've been tempted by leopard print, but i know i wont wear it since i dont like wearing brown..
i think another good thing to compare the flat sport shoes trend to is the vans sneaker. those were so popular when i was a teenager and i remember wanting them so badly but now i just can’t put them on without feeling dated/ridiculous
I believe bomber jackets have been around for a really long time, and whether they feel trendy or not depends on how they’re styled. To me, they’re a classic piece that always has a place in fashion. That said, I do understand that the word "timeless" doesn’t carry as much meaning as it used to.
I kinda like the bag charm trend, because I still have a lot of charms I had when I was younger. Except the charms are now on my purse instead of backpack 😂
I invested in an expensive fur coat back 2015 when they weren’t trendy I just love fluffy things. Now they’re trending and it’s the best but then when they’ve finished trending it will still be the best because it’s actually just a really beautiful piece of clothing
love watching these videos right before I go shopping it really reminds me that I should spend my money on trends but really explore and find my personal style.
Hahaha the comparison to the white sneakers is so hilarious… there was a very particular type of male that wore the branded white sneaks like that lol With the Sonny Angels & their history, that’s how I feel about all this obsession Miffy.. I read the Miffy books as a child and now suddenly Miffy is bloody everywhere ( which I love cause v cute but why has this suddenly popped up??!)
I love these videos because its so fun to see that people see fashion/clothing soo differently Yes i agree with most of these but i loveee the new balance chunky shoes , even though they seem like a trend to some people
I love you videos. You're absolutely adorable. BTW I love fur coats and I have so many I've bought over the years and for me a nice faux fur coat is a timeless item. Lotsa love. ❤
lmaoooo at you showing Sophia and Cinzia...they became my comfort channel during the pandemic but I always chuckle at how trend-focused they are lol...Cinzia is really into the colour burgundy right now lol
I think they were the ones that introduced me to the Stanley cup lol, true influencers . I love them sm though cinzia could dye her hair leopard print and I’d love it she can do no wrong imo hehehe
It’s easy to buy into trends when everything disintegrates within the year. If you get those shoes, wear them everyday and then in a year they are completely beat up, you can just jump onto the next trend. You really need to think of the long term and look for shoes that last longer then that. The sad thing is that if you do like something specific, it can be really hard to find if it’s not in trend, or even if it is, find longer lasting versions of it (like the sherpa made out of polyester)
I actually still adore sherpa, i have a secondhand biker jacket made out of this material, and i am planning to crochet a hat with this texture cus i found a tutorial recently. Loved the idea of your video! The comparisons are perfect, this really helped me to reflect my attitude to current fashion
One of the first things I ever bought my own night was for my 21st birthday and it was a vintage mink coat. I saved up for forever for it. And it goes with everything I have. And the reason I like it infinitely more than Sherpa is the texture. However, like you said, I think it may have been in your last video that you can incorporate into your personal style and it be staple for you. However, I got it when I was 21 and I’m 26 now so it was not a trend then lol. The sunny angels being reduced to trends is sad I love those little guys they deserve more ❤
Kinda think real fur coats are timeless. People wore them since humanity started, they are just very very warm. My 2 coats are both from around 50s/60s
Most of my trust in liking the clothing is just purely if i've worn the silhouette/item/idea before it became like a big big trend. Such as jeans that are not skinny - i've always worn at least straight leg and believe me in 2015ish when i was a kid, the market was 80% skinny from my vague memories. Mostly because my mum had experience with painful legs and such so the jean fabric sitting tightly under my knees was not it. Perhaps great part comes from your childhood. F.ex. i've always worn ballet flats and i'll continue to do so. Or one of my inspirations are characters like Hay Lin from W.i.t.c.h., i wanted to be her so bad. One item i still, whenever i see, get major war flashbacks from are those cami crop tops with lace trim. No idea why😂
I’m the same, never been a skinny jean wearer as I have hated my legs for as long as I have been old enough to dress myself :’) used to dread mufti days bc I’d rock up in my baggy trousers held up with a belt when all the cool girls were wearing skinny tight jeans and crop tops :/ lol I hated being a teenager hahaha
@@ashleighcallaghan oh i am so sorry you hated your legs :( and being a teen. I wish you the best in that nowadays the pants are more of a thing of confort, particular style and look
NOOO i am currently looking for a fur coat because i desperately need a winter jacket and i just like the look of this very specific type of fur jacket... when u brought up that teddy jacket trend i was about to cry lol great video btw!! i have a suggestion: i want to get better at layering, and i was wondering if you could make a video about how to layer certain items of clothing (for example different types of tops) in a unique/creative way? ok byeee x
Ahahhahhahhha im so sorry !! Pls though if you realise you really do like fur coats pls choose ur fav and treat yourself !! I’m just here to make sure you don’t regret any purchases :)) also - I would love to do a layering video bc I HATE layering to my CORE , so I would love to give my thoughts and opinions on it bc , as u know if u have seen my other vids , im a massive hater 💅💅💅💅💅💅 def going in my video ideas list ;)))
@@ashleighcallaghan woow no, i've recently discovered ur channel so i must have missed that!! thats crazy, now i'm excited to hear ur thoughts on it lol
Another reason to not buy it: cute animals like silver foxes getting skinned alive for these coats. Or endangered species getting poached for it. Really not something you want to wear proudly and comfortably
@@brooke407 and yet millions of animal get killed every year in fur farms. And if even one person thinks a fake fur looks cute on you and proceeds buying real fur because of it, damage has been done just because it's fashionable for a fleeting amount of time
You know what, the other day I was looking at old pics of myself and was like "i think i want another pair of off white stan smith adidas again cause i wore tf out of them" they are so hard to find now in the style I want its crazy cause in 2015 i could find every color imaginable
you remind me very much of amanda thripp from matilda, appearance-wise. i mean this as a compliment :) and lovely cardigan is it that youre wearing? another great video ash!
I love my bomber jacket, because I like the jacket style, I’ve had one since 2021 which was probably already a few years old (EBay purchase)…the classic vintage oversized ones make me think of Matilda (Leon movie) or Bruce Wayne in the Batman haha.. they’re cool imo.
You should make a video on how to follow "trends" in your own style, cause where I live ppl are super up to date with fashion, is it just me or were inching to a ninties revival?
There’s one thing… something being a ´trend’ a ‘micro trend’ or simply a style which oscillates on the scale of desirability in the ‘fashion forward’ community (or the general public) … a fur coat is a style, a woollen peacoat is a style, a biker leather jacket, an Afghan coat etc.. same with certain prints, stripes, polka dot, leopard print never really leave.. just the level of attention or ‘hype’ shifts.. and I’ve grown up around adults with consistent style (developed away from social media) who for example have adored wearing leopard print for decades. The issue is inauthenticity and an obsession with being trendy rather than cultivating a sensibility individual to yourself… and then maintaining that style consistently…
* A sensibility either individual to yourself or your community that you identify with ( ‘your tribe‘ )… Which is getting into ‘the death of subcultures’ topic, which have been heavily convoluted via social media. ‘Aesthetics’ are costumes. ‘Subculture’ is a lifestyle Sensibility should be individualised, authenticity based on your lived experiences and genuine passions…
Again… an issue of inauthenticity, subcultures have been made into costumes, personas you can try on and discard without actually living it. Talking the talk without walking the walk so to say…
Back in 2021 I bought a reversible bomber jacket (quite affordable) that has fur on the inside and a fully fur hoodie. I fear it is my most treasured jacket despite being two trends in one
i have a margiela bomber in london tk maxx its white and so goregous heavy material only cost. me 80 pounds and i wore it this year in chicago (im from florida) and ill never get rid of it even tho i bought it in 2019 to me it IS timeless bombers are classic if its made of good material and in a color u can match with many things
Love your channel and especially this topic is interesting. I have white leather Converse and also Converse in black and white canvas. They are not trendy, but somehow always kind of cool. Same goes for Dr. Martens (i have a rare vintage style in black). I do not think buying trends is bad - it can be breath of fresh air.
I don't understand your version of a pea coat. In my understanding, a pea coat is a wool double breasted jacket originally worn by sailors, it looks nothing like your examples.
Yes they’re ruining the bag charms. I was looking for a tamogachi for my bags months ago bc I remembered how it made me so happy as a child, so I searched eBay only for my coworker to say she just ordered it off Amazon🙄🤦🏽♀️
are most trends predominantly on tiktok? i deleted it a few months ago and i haven’t heard of the pea coat or cow hide trends, even though i’m on socials like instagram and pinterest all the time
My biggest takeaway from all of these videos is that nothing is actually a original idea/trend. Most trends are repurposed older trends from 20, 30, years back!
I dont think fur and sherpa coats are necessarily comparable when you consider that 1) fur coats are investmant pieces and 2) fur coats have never really gone out of trend due to the consistency of older women wearing them. This is just more so the younger generation being introduced to them for the first time but theyre still, in a sense, timeless. What I do think is important to think about before buying a fur is buying a secondhand one over one made by say- motel rocks- that is pure polyester.
7:10 this trend in particular is so odd to me because I've always been a "weird girl", that is to say I've always been involved in fandom culture since I was young and even now I still collect dolls, figures, keychains, and pins. Most my bags are covered in pins and keychains even now and I can't imagine the mindset of buying any cutesy looking bag accessory in bulk just to throw it on a bag so I'm part of the current trend. Even these trends come from very dedicated spaces, ita bags being popular within Japanese fan culture for way over a decade now. It's just an odd experience seeing something that I know and recognize so well and see it get turned into a fad for the mainstream to chew up and spit out within the span of six months.
the sonny angel/bag charm to pom pom comparison was cruel but necessary, thank you

Very very important difference ! Hope you have the best day and find a fur coat you love soon !!
In the end, just buy something YOU like, and not what is feed to you by the media. I love black and white prints, so i know, i will forever love my cow print/ zebra print/ striped/polka dots stuff. I've been tempted by leopard print, but i know i wont wear it since i dont like wearing brown..
i think another good thing to compare the flat sport shoes trend to is the vans sneaker. those were so popular when i was a teenager and i remember wanting them so badly but now i just can’t put them on without feeling dated/ridiculous
lol watch pt 1 , that’s exactly what I did hahaha xxxxx
I have a collection of letting monster things from Japan- bought them from each place I travelled to. That’s the kind of bag charm I like.
that pom pom comparison really sat me down
I love hearing your opinion you seem so knowledgeable and real asf
I believe bomber jackets have been around for a really long time, and whether they feel trendy or not depends on how they’re styled. To me, they’re a classic piece that always has a place in fashion. That said, I do understand that the word "timeless" doesn’t carry as much meaning as it used to.
I kinda like the bag charm trend, because I still have a lot of charms I had when I was younger. Except the charms are now on my purse instead of backpack 😂
I invested in an expensive fur coat back 2015 when they weren’t trendy I just love fluffy things. Now they’re trending and it’s the best but then when they’ve finished trending it will still be the best because it’s actually just a really beautiful piece of clothing
btw ash, your videos bring me so much comfort and joy
Omg I just love your videos. I feel Like I learn so much, really well researhed as well as entertaining. Big love!
Ah thank you!!!! I hope you have a lovely day xxx
love ur videos!!! my 57 year old mom showed ur channel to me and i think thats the coolest thing ever
ur mum can be my manager hehehehehe !! I’m so glad u found me welcome home xxxxxxx
Listening to this at the gym ily
Werk it girl 💪💪
love watching these videos right before I go shopping it really reminds me that I should spend my money on trends but really explore and find my personal style.
Hahaha the comparison to the white sneakers is so hilarious… there was a very particular type of male that wore the branded white sneaks like that lol
With the Sonny Angels & their history, that’s how I feel about all this obsession Miffy.. I read the Miffy books as a child and now suddenly Miffy is bloody everywhere ( which I love cause v cute but why has this suddenly popped up??!)
This NEEDS to be a series. 👚💕👗💕🧢💕🩳💕💯✨‼️
YES MAM 💅💅💅💅💅🫶🫶
I love these videos because its so fun to see that people see fashion/clothing soo differently
Yes i agree with most of these but i loveee the new balance chunky shoes , even though they seem like a trend to some people
I love you videos. You're absolutely adorable. BTW I love fur coats and I have so many I've bought over the years and for me a nice faux fur coat is a timeless item. Lotsa love. ❤
the casio ON the sleeve is a power move!
I am a power move 💅🤌

lmaoooo at you showing Sophia and Cinzia...they became my comfort channel during the pandemic but I always chuckle at how trend-focused they are lol...Cinzia is really into the colour burgundy right now lol
Your deinfluencing videos are so entertaining I loveeee em.
Went to sleep the whole day and woke up to this. THANK GOD 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I luv how you argue your point. love love love
thankx for blessing us mawma 🥰
Such a pleasure dear xxxxxx
I love that cardigan on you!! Thank you for yet another great video!
Thank you so much !! Such a pleasure :))
@@Forestnight7I think most people are buying faux fur not actual fur nowadays
@@brooke407 and yet millions of animal get killed every year in fur farms. And if even one person thinks a fake fur looks cute on you and proceeds buying real fur because of it, damage has been done just because it's fashionable for a fleeting amount of time
You know what, the other day I was looking at old pics of myself and was like "i think i want another pair of off white stan smith adidas again cause i wore tf out of them" they are so hard to find now in the style I want its crazy cause in 2015 i could find every color imaginable
It’s crAZY how quickly trends come and go, we don’t even have the chance to realise they are a trend!!
I still love the sherpa tbh. I live in a state dominated by winter.
you remind me very much of amanda thripp from matilda, appearance-wise. i mean this as a compliment :) and lovely cardigan is it that youre wearing? another great video ash!
AMANDA THRIP PLSSSSSSS THIS IS THE HIGHEST COMPLIMENT OF ALL TIME
I love my bomber jacket, because I like the jacket style, I’ve had one since 2021 which was probably already a few years old (EBay purchase)…the classic vintage oversized ones make me think of Matilda (Leon movie) or Bruce Wayne in the Batman haha.. they’re cool imo.
You should make a video on how to follow "trends" in your own style, cause where I live ppl are super up to date with fashion, is it just me or were inching to a ninties revival?
Yes love this idea ! Also pls 90s minimalism is a dream xx
* A sensibility either individual to yourself or your community that you identify with ( ‘your tribe‘ )…
Which is getting into ‘the death of subcultures’ topic, which have been heavily convoluted via social media.
‘Aesthetics’ are costumes.
‘Subculture’ is a lifestyle
Sensibility should be individualised, authenticity based on your lived experiences and genuine passions…
Again… an issue of inauthenticity, subcultures have been made into costumes, personas you can try on and discard without actually living it. Talking the talk without walking the walk so to say…
ROCKS HAVE PERSONALITY!
That cardigan suits you so well!
Ah thank you thank you !! I hope you have a lovely dayx xxxx

i love pea coats 😭😭😭
Fur is so timeless for me though I’d love to style them in a kind of indie sleaze style
So here for that ngl
your so pretty i love ur vids sm
Love u more xxxxxx
7:16 I CANT with sonny angels. The same girl that has 20 of them also preaches about over consumption and only wearing buying natural fibers.
Aaaaaaaah!! Yay I'm early.
Love you girl❤❤❤
Love u moreee xxxx
Back in 2021 I bought a reversible bomber jacket (quite affordable) that has fur on the inside and a fully fur hoodie. I fear it is my most treasured jacket despite being two trends in one
Please make these all the time thank you
ive stumbled on your account this morning and this is my 10th video. Lucky me!
SO GLAD U FOUND ME !! welcome home hehehe xxxxx
Meanwhile, I only learn about these trends from watching these videos? But I would describe myself as deeply unfashionable.
This is an educational podcast ehheheheh
i have a margiela bomber in london tk maxx its white and so goregous heavy material only cost. me 80 pounds and i wore it this year in chicago (im from florida) and ill never get rid of it even tho i bought it in 2019 to me it IS timeless bombers are classic if its made of good material and in a color u can match with many things
“The Pom Pom trend....did I need to say more?” Haha. No, you don’t. It was the perfect ending❤😂
Maybe a swing coat is a better term? Sorry for the confusion !
Yes they’re ruining the bag charms. I was looking for a tamogachi for my bags months ago bc I remembered how it made me so happy as a child, so I searched eBay only for my coworker to say she just ordered it off Amazon🙄🤦🏽♀️
Oof, as a person who likes charms and dangly things on my bags, the pompoms gave me flashbacks to the times i didnt remember anymore
I LOVE this!
I still wear my uniqlo crossover almost every day
are most trends predominantly on tiktok? i deleted it a few months ago and i haven’t heard of the pea coat or cow hide trends, even though i’m on socials like instagram and pinterest all the time
My biggest takeaway from all of these videos is that nothing is actually a original idea/trend.
It's just an odd experience seeing something that I know and recognize so well and see it get turned into a fad for the mainstream to chew up and spit out within the span of six months.
i didn't know sherpa was out... i js bought a sherpa jacket
