i still wear and see so many others wearing skinny jeans... so out of touch for people to think things go "out" of style when its just a subset of people who subscribe to fashion trends and let their taste be shaped by others
I think a lot of people see different old trends how they were when they were popular (myself included) like the skinny jeans I wore as a teenager were horrific quality vs getting like a good quality version is going to feel different and in turn give you a different opinion on them. I think I was coming across in a way where fashion website will deem a trend as “horrifically outdated and nobody should ever wear” and then will come back being like “JK actually it’s THE trend whatever we told you to buy throw THAT OUT”
fr. i almost exclusively see people in skinny jeans when i leave my house, but i also live in a rural area where people don’t care about fashion at all. i wear them sometimes too because 2014 tumblr fall outfits still have me in a chokehold lol
Slim/skinny pants with tucked into combat boots of any lenght is my go to since I was a young teen. I'm short and I have wide hips, so tbh most other pant silhouttes look stupid on me. Following trends is just pointless these days, imagine getting a new wardrobe every month
@@coolchameleon21I wear them in winter because I need to wear snow boots. I also live rurally and in Wisconsin. Skinny jeans are easier to stuff into winter boots.
the trend cycle has become so fast, no actual fashion people are following it anymore, only aspiring influencers care about it because they want to be noticed by the algorithm. my style has become very vintage inspired and my closet is pretty much all second hand, i would definitely recommend.
it’s wild how the 2020s seem to be the first decade in centuries that doesn’t have a distinct homogeneous “style”. like if you think of any other decade prior to this one, you can envision the general styles that most people were wearing. i can’t think of anything for the 2020s besides that strawberry cardigan that was popular in 2020
the idea that broken umbrellas are a trend that is over is hilarious. no one has ever said you should use a broken umbrella? obviously if your umbrella is broken, you're gonna replace it unless you don't have the time or money to do so
Since I’m a former editor in chief for a big fashion magazine, I want people to know that trends reports are mostly marketing & PR for certain brands that want to sell certain products. Other than that, in fashion personal style is always admired because nothing say uninspiring & uncreative more than being dressed like everyone else.
Yea, I like to follow fashion but after a couple of years of paying attention to trends I get so bored and go back to mainly focusing on what I like. Nothing more boring than everyone being dressed the same.
Trend articles are so tacky to me. I feel like there’s a difference between reporting on what’s going on with fashion vs. churning out mindless lists of whats in or out with the purpose of influencing people what to wear, hardly ever mentioning things like incorporating it into your personal style or how it works for diff body types. And it’s becoming so fast that we can remember certain items coming in and out of style multiple times
The whole purpose of these trend lists is to justify what the trend forecasters had decided on last year or even earlier. It's not a conspiracy theory; there is an actual group of people who basically dictate what the fashion industry will do for the next 12-36 months. All the big manufacturers buy the forecasts so they can plan their collections, whether they do 2 or 12 in a year. Very little of what's trendy is genuinely zeitgeist-driven. In recent times, I can only think of a handful of trends that were developed through the natural interest of the general public in the designs of small-scale, independent designers. The Matoshi strawberry dress created a massive cascade of strawberry-themed fast fashion, Selkie was absolutely essential to the development of the cottage core aesthetic, and basically anything darkly architectural is courtesy of Japanese design houses who DGAF about the stupid trend forecasts.
An alternative for people who struggle with wool and other animal fiber sweaters: Cotton sweaters! You can find them in the thrift stores really easily bc lots of people overlook them in favor of wool/cashmere options but they're just as nice AND not as itchy AND don't shed microplastics in the wash! Idk if they're a trend but does it really matter?
the material matters quite a lot depening on where you live. cotton is a great material for summer/the warmer climate, because it absorbs your sweat and keeps you cool during the heat. in winter, however, damp clothes will make you feel cold. I guess you're gonna be fine if you live in a warmer climate, but here in germany, cotton is really not the material to wear during the winter. especially if you need to ride your bike to school/uni/work like I (and most germans) do. same goes for overheated rooms - you're going to sweat inside and freeze outside. (it pains me to say that, but polyester or polyacryl or whatever is actually better during the winter season, because artificial materials wont absorb your sweat. but merino wool is absolutely the material of choice if one can afford it.) writing this comment made me realize how much of a material nerd I became once researching how to stay warm based on the experience of outdoor enthusiasts. if you live in a cold climate, ditch all the fashion advice and listen to survival experts instead. and then combine your new knowledge with your fashion preferences and boom, best of both worlds.
@@feather8894 The first ascent of Mt. Everest was before the invention of polyester; fashion historians will tell you that prior to the invention of synthetic outdoor wear, climbers used cotton and silk base layers and layered wool and down on top. Natural fibers are better insulators and allow for moisture wicking-because they aren't plastic based, they allow for sweat to leave your body and evaporate through the clothing. Polyester, on the other hand, traps heat and sweat, forcing you to walk around in damp garments, which in extreme cold temperatures, can lead to frostbite.
@@feather8894strongly disagree. I live in Germany and wear exclusively cotton sweaters and I am never cold. I can't stand neither wool (allergies), nor polyester (sweating). Polyamid is fine, as long as it's in a blend with cotton, otherwise I sweat a lot underneath which is not my vibe - I want to be warm, not soaking wet lol. When I'm wearing cotton, I am NEVER cold, although I walk most of the time (don't drive in a car or public transport), to and from work, to buy groceries or wherever I have to go. Meanwhile I also suffer from a chronic disease where I don't do well in colder climate and I pretty much always have cold hands and feet, even in summer when it's boiling hot. So, no, it has nothing to do with a climate you live in. It has to do a lot with breathability of the material and, of course, a personal preference.
The really dark jeans don't "look like" denim because our usual denim is yarn dyed and you get the visual interest of all the different threads. With the dark wash it's cloth dyed and it's less dimensional, more flat!
That was something I ended up cutting out of the video but YES! Coming up with something new for you to buy every year with THEIR links gives them a direct incentive 🤭
@ lol I guess i got a little turned around, English is my second language and I would have used the word “bunching” I also live in a city filled with both very long pants AND a lot of puddles, which makes mud soaked hemlines quite a common sight
I personally feel that light wash jeans give more of a cool girl vibe vs dark wash is more polished?! Skinny jeans might be out, but I still personally love them specially during winter with tall boots, it's just the perfect combo and it's warm.
Advice I've gathered from my dad's side of the family, who live in a country where fur is more commonly used: don't buy multiple different ones depending on what's in style. Invest in ones in colors that match the majority of your wardrobe, avoid getting them wet, and you're good. Anything out of style will come back into style quickly, and if the number of women in the US who compliment my Aunt Shahnoda on her coat is any indication, having something you know how to style and feel confident is is WAY more important than being on-trend. She has worn things that are incredibly off-trend and looked good.
Can confirm as someone from a cold climate, large scarfs are always the answer. And by large I mean lap blanket size. I rotate between a lighter fabric that can be draped, a hand knitted piece that has lasted over a decade now, and a large piano shawl.
There is wool and then there is WOOL. I thrifted a $300 100% wool sweater from Play by Com de garçon and it is the softest most luxurious feeling sweater I own. I got it for $10 because the entire side seam was open from wrist to hem and I have a serger. I never knew Wool could even feel like that. But apparently it can and does but it’s expensive
i was actually recently thinking about how i personally like a deer print vibe and you really rarely see it. so funny that you brought up the idea of a deer print trend. personally i've never vibed with the popular animal prints but there's something about deer print that feels more subtle to me? i don't know, there was a deer print dress on pinterest ages ago that i vibed with
I feel like the rest of the animal prints give very "sexy, cool party girl" energy, while deer print reads as more dainty, soft and feminine. I've always avoided animal prints because they feel like the opposite of my vibe. But you know, deer is one I could get behind.
i love skinny jeans lmao like they just look really good on me!!! skinny jeans, leather jacket, and chelsea boots is a sexy rock n roll look u can't convince me otherwise. some people need to stop letting tiktok control their tastes and tell them what to wear
I think the fashion industry has a big “all or nothing” approach, if wide legs jeans are in then ANYTHING ELSE IS OUT vs having different styles for different purposes 👏🏻 kind of what I was saying with the different shades of denim
@ exactly!! they think we need to stop wearing a certain style and instead fully switch to something with a completely different vibe. people can like more than one style 😭
I think it's going to be a while until skinny jeans come back. I mostly wear narrow over wide but it's the tight ankles that look so dated to me. And anything that could be a legging looks cheap to me unless it's gym wear. When they finally come back around my prediction is that it'll be along with the black alternative metal vibe.
Some of us were a little surprised by the demise of skinny jeans. They are so practical for tall boots, and flats. Guilty on the faux furs. I have a few. Our winters are brutal and I end up wearing the heck out of them. Getting a new faux fur every year is perfectly justified here.
I love this. I always appreciate your disclaimer about not following trends or worrying what’s “in”. The only way to develop a sense of style is to wear what you like. 🤷♀️
I’m currently looking for a pair of second hand skinny jeans to wear with my tall boots. There are just some things that only really work with a skinny jean.
Yes! I'm currently into all types of jeans (straight, wide leg, flare leg...), but the skinny style is the best for tall boots. It's my go to if I want my boots to be the focus of my outfit. (Well, that and mini skirts, but sometimes I'm not in a skirt mood)
As a knitter I find chenille horrible to work with, it makes my hands all sweaty and easily looks worn before whatever is made with it is finished. Apart from that, I never realised it was on trend for garments, I mostly know it from blankets and chunky chenille crocheted bees. I must admit I wouldn't buy a chenille garment in the store either😅 If people like the look, that is great! I just sat here thinking 'huh, it's out now, wait does that mean it was in before?'
So much of this definitely resonates! I will not be cutting my wide leg jeans. Relaxed is fine, but absolutely no skinnies for me unless it's storming and I need pants tucked into boots. Just not flattering on me. We shouldn't be slaves to trends, and find what truly looks best on our individual bodies and fits our lives!
Most of the stuff I wear is considered outdated 🤣🤣🤣 but that’s ok 😌 I just love watching the trends because is fun but I don’t take them too serious 😄 great video ❤
The cuffed jean trend made me laugh because I am tall and I chop the bottoms off all my jeans, fray the raw edges and then cuff them. I like the way they look with flats and my Docs. Everything I wear is odd and quirky and trends in general just make me laugh. I love watching videos about them though!
Social media influencers are under constant pressure to create new content which leads them to create and deflate trends at rapid pace. It never moved this fast before social media.
I have always loved flare and wide leg jeans. I wore them when everyone wore skinny jeans. They were kind of hard to find because they weren't a trend, now that everyone is saying they are in, and skinny jeans are out I am wanting to wear skinny jeans LOL> I hate being told what to do ha ha! PS, everywhere I look ppl are in skinny jeans or bootcut in my area of the Midwest. I like the newer style skinny jeans that are almost more of what used to be thought of as straight leg when older skinny jeans were actually jeggings and super tight, I don't like those. Now, straight jeans are wider than an older straight jean and a slim straight is what straight used to be. I think ppl need to wear what looks and feels good for their body shape and lifestyle.
Lol the broken umbrella trend feels classist to me- like everyone wants a nice working umbrella but investing a lot of money on something like that isn’t practical for everyone, sometimes you just pick up a 15$ one from target.
Yes! My broke Eastern European ass will never buy an umbrella worth more than my prom dress. It's not like I go around with a broken umbrella either. But my cheap one does the job just fine. It has lasted years at this point, I don't have the need to replace it with something unnecessarily expensive. I forget it at home half the time I need it anyway 😅
I'm against getting rid of something because it's not "on trend" anymore. I have both a long and a short faux fur coats. I just don't wear them when it's raining. I mainly wear them as a show stopping piece to holiday parties, that's why I'll never get rid of them. They're just too beautiful. Lol, I'm the short person who must cuff jeans all the time. Otherwise, they're way too long on me. I must admit that indigo and black jeans look better cuffed than lighter wash ones. I'll keep my lighter wash jeans for spring and summer because I also think darker jeans look less bad after you get caught in the rain and they're all soaked. Also, I cannot believe that cigarette pants are a trend now! Where were they this spring, when I was looking EVERYWHERE for a pair and ended up thrifting second hand Zara???
I have grown to really love blazers. Ive developed a thrifted collection of all kinds of different styles, shapes, colors, patterns, and fabrics. Not too much. But a good variety since I wear them almost everyday to work when I am not wear a sweater. My favorite fall/wibter combo is a blazer with a turtleneck.
You are absolutely right. Buy a vintage faux fur, they are much better made. I’ve had two, they are both from the 1940’s. They’re beautiful and even hold up in the rain. Faux fur is very warm, if you live in a cold climate they level up your winter game.
🌞Always love your Trend Takes. Each season I see it as a strategy to shop🛍 my own closet in order to refresh my look for the next quarter. Plus, it makes me happy to see how the pendulum swings〰️& shows how I'll actually be "On Trend" w/what I already own too. 😉Think your approach to it builds confidence in yourself & others. As you prescribe, it's an excellent tactic to learn to take these potential style roasts in stride. Overall, it's far smarter to stick w/what best suits you〰️our figure, temperament, taste, climate, lifestyle (level of formality), etc. 😬Don't do jeans👖, but the darker washes do read as more elegant & Fall/Winter. Light wash denim feels 💯% a more casual chic & also Spring/Summer. When you live in 😎Sunny SoCal, light blue denim is practically a neutral in our setting. 🤗Chenille is soft & cozy as well as afforadable for LA's more mild Winter weather. Splashing out in high quality knitwear can be 💸pricey. Lovely as they can be, I simply don't get max cost per wear out of cashmere or wool. 😃The all gray look was rather ✨️spectacular. Feel far more comfy w/mini skirts in chilly Fall/Winter when paired w/coordinating tights & thigh-high boots. Like the added modesty coverage & warmth that those two things add. Tend to avoid pleats in short or long skirts bcos they can add extra bulk ↔️ for an already extreme hourglass⏳️ figure😂. 🙂Straight trousers & sometimes slightly slouchy wide leg pants are most flattering for my curvy form. Although I do own beautiful black lined wool 🚬cigarette pants I wear occasionally in 🥶cold weather. Tapered pants emphasize the exaggerated width (or V shape) of my hips & lower extremities🤣. Unless tucking leggings or jeggings in riding boots🐎〰️ skinnies are O-U-T for me. ❤Love to be swaddled in a soft, cosy oversized scarf in chilly temps. 😊It can make you feel toasty in much lighter layers too. 🥵Once it heats up, I prefer smaller scarves to tie around neck, wrist, or a tote bag. The long, slim scarves can easily work as a sash to add a 💥pop💥 of color or pattern too. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
HA. I still kept and wear my skinny jeans with certain outfits. They look good with tall boots. I kept 3 2 blue and 1 black. I also have trouser jeans straight leg, wide leg, barrel, light dark etc… I wear silhouettes which require different jeans. I don’t “follow” the trends and I need ALL the jeans in my drawers because I get bored easily. Must be the Gemini in me
I feel like these articles are full of false dichotomies..why can't we style a big and a small scarf depending on the day, both long and short skirts and different jeans that we already own?
Listen. I’ve been using the same 2 umbrellas for a decade now, are they both broken? Yes. BUT they’re also cuter than any new umbrella I’ve come across, and I got them both from my old job’s lost and found(nobody ever claimed them and after 90 days, the rule was basically finders keepers). One has a wooden handle and vintage floral fabric, and the other is black with beige roses. They can pry them from my cold dead hands 😂
alexa! I believe if you lived in a place that truly gets cold during winter, your opinion on fur jackets would change :) they're just so cozy for the cold months up here in Canada! also I think one of the reasons skinny jeans are coming back in style is because tall leather boots (including cowboy boots) are back in style and they're very compatible with skinny jeans! plus oversized/long tops and outerwear look better with skinnier bottoms proportion-wise.
This is so funny to me because I feel like every fall we talk about the latest trends without realizing its the same stuff each year. The colors maroon, olive green, brown, etc. The cheetah print, The weather and the chunky sweaters. Y'all!! THESE ARE JUST WINTER CLOTHES!!! NOT TRENDS!!
I thrifted a chenille sweater a couple years ago and I get compliments very often when I wear it :) it’s a dark purpley wine red and I style it in a very whismygoth way- long black skirt, chunky leather boots, layered necklaces. Personal style will always win over trends! The websites you’re referring also feel like they’re aimed at a very specific upper-middle class to bourgeois demographic. As if everyone could chuck out their wardrobe and buy expensive new clothes every couple of months. Bunch of clowns be out there wasting resources buying 400$ Burberry umbrellas that looks like they’re from your local drugstore 🤡🤡
I dunno about skinny jeans (I feel like people keep predicting that they’ll come back but nobody is actually biting) but I 100% bet that infinity scarves are coming back any time soon
Same, I grew up in the era of skinny jeans from middle school to college and honestly it was one thing I am glad died down a little bit. It caused more wide or straight leg jeans in stores. I don't hate the style per say but the skinny jeans and jeggings were always so itchy and uncomfortable for me. So overstimulating for some reason. I will continue wearing my straight and wide even if it goes out of style.
Can’t we all just accept that light wash denim looks better on some people and dark wash denim looks better on others? I’m happy for me (team dark wash) but I feel bad for everyone who is being told that they don’t have style for wearing the currently less trendy, lighter wash denim, when I would argue that wearing what looks good on you regardless of the trend cycle points to a strong sense of style.
I personally don't like skinny jeans anymore but in public i see so many people still wear and rock them especially for certain body types it really enhanced their figures
I am so done with skinny jeans. Not that i haven't kept mine (although i am not wearing them), but they have been popular for sooooo many years and i wanted them gone for such a long time already. So i wish that skinny jeans will not get in style for at least 10 more years from now, so that not everyone is going to wear them again. I feel like at this point of time you see much more different styles on the streets and i love that. I don't mind people wearing skinny jeans, but i like to see all the variety that we have now on the streets.
To start, I wear what I like and pay no attention to fast fashion. I am definitely a jeans Woman and I like different shades but I do agree most of mind are light wash. I like messy cuffed on strait legged jeans but I also hate cuffed on wide legged. I will NEVER EVER EVER put another pair of skinny jeans on my body regardless if I am the only person on earth wearing straight or wde legged jeans. I was so happy when that style went away. It was freedom for my legs.😊
I always wear flares/bell bottoms. Sometimes I am in style but often I am not. Right now they are fashionable again so I am looking forward to finding them in the thrift shops soon.
I wear slim leg jeans because the wide-leg ones look terrible on me. Other than that, I wear classic and boho pieces that fit my style. The trend videos are interesting though! Thanks.
Never in my life have I looked at trends or knew what was trendy, but it’s so fun to watch this and then look around outside to see if the predictions come true ❤
I live in a small town in north Louisiana. Most of the women here wear t shirts, jeans and hoodies. And everyone wears camo. Especially now since it’s hunting season. I don’t hunt and I despise camo. So I can wear non-trendy, thrift store clothes and still be fashionable. 😂
I love chenille but I'm a little allergic to wool, it makes me itch. I also really like the way chenille looks. It originated in France in the 1780's so it's been around a long time too.
Clear umbrella IS life changing!! I got mine back in the early '10s when I feel like no one was selling them, at a gift shop that sold a lot of Asian staples. I still have it and use it all the time, even tho it's not the best quality it's not like the Shein shit we have now. I say yes, buy a clear umbrella new and quality, bc you'll never need another one, which is better sustainability anyway.
I've been looking forward to wearing my leopard print faux fur coat, and seeing the peak trendiness and the inevitable looming downfall makes me uneasy. I see why some people try to gatekeep the things they like.
I know this wasn’t this video but a few months ago but I wanted to say THANK YOU for turning me onto Solvang! We’re going next weekend for my birthday to get into the Christmas spirit and I am so excited!!
I just purchased a beautiful silk leopard print button up. I think one classic piece of leopard print paired with medium dark denim is timeless no matter what a fashion “expert” writes in an article.
The problem with dark jeans is that they don’t *stay* dark. I have one pair of black jeans and probably 2-4 pairs of faded jeans, several of which probably used to be dark.
I love skinny scarves! I’ve just been getting into them lately too. I used to wear one all the time in 2012 and I cringe at all my outfits back then, so it took me forever to come back to it. Now I love it. I feel so amazing whenever I wear one. Also I just don’t live in an place where house scarves will ever be needed. 😅
Just bought a stunning second hand designer faux fur coat in cream great to throw over a dress this winter season warm cozy and looks amazing . On a dry sunny cold chilly winter day it’s perfect ! So lush looking .
Thats why i aim to be stylish not trendy. They are definitely trying to get people to keep consuming, especially the videos that say “wear this instead”
For me I’d pick wool only if it’s Moreno wool because it’s soft and not itchy unlike normal wool, otherwise I’d pick channel because it’s comfy and not itchy. However, I hate how it can come unraveled so easy
You can pry gingham print out of my cold, dead hands. I'm never replacing it with leopard, I don't even like animal print. Same goes for bows, bows forever! 🎀
lmaoo the broken umbrella one - i've been using this foldable umbrella Ive had since highschool. Like it still works but the're this one metal section that's a bit bent, but apparently that's so unchic of me 😭😂
ive seen a few belted blazers/denim jackets around lately that intruigue me... like theyre an oversize cut but then have an attached belt. sort of best of both worlds
I'm a straight/slim jean person, but a straight to wide leg wool trouser person. Definitely depends on the type of pants I'm wearing. I'm just glad that modern low rise is closer to mid rise and my short torso can finally breath.
If it’s forcasting for rain I would NOT wear my mink coat at ALL!😂 mine is vintage and I love it so much. It very heavy and warm. But would never ever wear it if it’s raining!! When it comes to trends, I don’t follow them, I just wear what I love. I always enjoy your videos! ❤
My furrier told me wearing it in the rain isn’t bad- as minks get wet in their natural state and repel it somewhat The trick is to shake it out and let it dry before putting it back in the closet or it’s bag
I didn't know what a chenille was until this video. I just bought my first chenille sweater and absolutely love it! It's so soft and it adds more visual interested to what would be basic outfits
I love hourglass blazers. Those masculine tailored blazers do not work on five feet tall me who has a sizeable bust and they are nearly down to my knees 😂. I remember them starting to be popular around 2015. I prefer straight/wide trousers because they balance my proportions. I notice a lot of complete opposite styles to what we have been seeing, more fitted for sure.
Woah! Uploaded a minute ago?? Might be the first comment, then, haha. On a big side note, I will never wear skinny jeans again 😭 High rise Mum jeans forever ❤️🩹❤️🔥
Love these videos Alexa! Advertisers are so predatory! Your winter clothes from last year or the year before or the year before that still look and work fine!
If skinny jeans are coming back I would rather have it in the form of bootcut or slight flare rather than the extremely body sticking. Ngl i really dont like skinny jeans
i feel like me and my generation wore skinny jeans not because it was trend, but because it was the norm and it was what everyone got and every store sold and we never even questioned it. i never asked myself is there another type of jeans as a teenager or thought greatly about trends and whatnot. when wide leg pants became trendy in my late 20s, i remember i bought my first pair in zara and was like "can i actually wear this" because i feared of getting looked at weirdly for wearing something so "different" as literally everyone and their mom wore skinny jeans in forever. for me as a former anorexic, wide leg jeans are just so much better for coping with my body dysmorphia because skinny jeans show me everything i do not want to see therefore i mostly wore skirts to cover my legs prior to wider leg jeans being common. if you feel great in skinny jeans, love that for you, but i know many people who complain about their bodies, who are stuck with skinny jeans and who would greatly benefit from expanding their horizon and try a different style of jeans. i also fear as heroine chic starts coming back, low rise jeans came back, the skinny jeans will push us all into another era of romanticizing eating disorders. tiktok will call it ana-core.
“Hourglass jackets” - ok, so the fashion industry spent the last couple of years telling us the nipped in waist Balmain blazer was out, and oversized blazers were in… just to now start to reverse it? Ok, so are we just saying everything is both in style and dated simultaneously now?
Cashmere and wool sweaters are timeless, and blends with alpaca, camel or yak shouldn't be overlooked. Whether fitted or loose, plain or fancy, it's the material that is versatile. It's durable when properly cared for, more breathable and insulating than synthetics, and can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in moisture before it even feels damp. Everyone should own several good quality animal-fibre sweaters. I've never liked boxy blazers, opting instead for classic fitted single breasted blazers. One of my favourites that I've owned since about 2002 is a black velvet cropped blazer with a peplum and puffed sleeves that closes with a d-ring sash (it's probably early 90s Victoriana). It hits so many different style notes and is just incredibly versatile. I do own a late 80s cobalt blue blazer with black lapels covered in gold star studs (a legit stand out piece), but despite being more oversized, the shoulder to waist ratio still creates a really flattering silhouette. For generally trendy things that I like, I just wait. If the perfect piece shows up at the thrift store, great! I have the satisfaction of paying far less for something that most other people aren't wearing. I finally got an H&M cropped faux fur jacket last fall that's very much out of style, but it's the perfect warm pinkish-cream colour and fits like I made it. In spring, I got a huge wishlist item that I've been wearing A LOT now that it's cold: a muppet sweater in Cookie Monster blue! Such a short-lived trendy item that was very polarized, but it's perfect for me now that its three years out of date. It also amuses me beyond belief to go up to my husband and say "C is for cookie" while making a lewd gesture :-D
i still wear and see so many others wearing skinny jeans... so out of touch for people to think things go "out" of style when its just a subset of people who subscribe to fashion trends and let their taste be shaped by others
@@faeriesmak that’s why i wear them too, they’re much easier to tuck into combat boots and tall boots
This year I'm following the trend of "I'm broke so I'm re-wearing the same perfect-for-me clothes that took years of curated thrifting to acquire"
Best trend, though.
I've gotten really into visible mending lately, it's really nice and relaxing:D
I love this trend honestly, the best kind.
I’m not bloke core, I’m broke core 😁
not only broke ppl following this trend, also middle class who wants to save money for other life spheres like daily entertainment or travel etc
the trend cycle has become so fast, no actual fashion people are following it anymore, only aspiring influencers care about it because they want to be noticed by the algorithm. my style has become very vintage inspired and my closet is pretty much all second hand, i would definitely recommend.
oooop 👏🏻say 👏🏻their 👏🏻names 🤭🤭🤭
Much of my closet is vintage or second-hand as well.
it’s wild how the 2020s seem to be the first decade in centuries that doesn’t have a distinct homogeneous “style”. like if you think of any other decade prior to this one, you can envision the general styles that most people were wearing. i can’t think of anything for the 2020s besides that strawberry cardigan that was popular in 2020
Yes I cannot keep up and tbh it’s expensive to keep up with how fast the trends change too
Speak for yourself because as someone living in Utah, I’m tired of walking outside and being hit by tiktok trends everywhere I look

Yea, I like to follow fashion but after a couple of years of paying attention to trends I get so bored and go back to mainly focusing on what I like. Nothing more boring than everyone being dressed the same.
Over sized clothes on Slim People look awful.. only my opinion.
So Glad we Can dress for what Suites one.
Agree with your statement.. 🎉
And there are cotton chenille yarns too, so you can get the soft fuzzy texture without getting the polyester sweats
the material matters quite a lot depening on where you live. cotton is a great material for summer/the warmer climate, because it absorbs your sweat and keeps you cool during the heat. in winter, however, damp clothes will make you feel cold.
I guess you're gonna be fine if you live in a warmer climate, but here in germany, cotton is really not the material to wear during the winter. especially if you need to ride your bike to school/uni/work like I (and most germans) do. same goes for overheated rooms - you're going to sweat inside and freeze outside.
(it pains me to say that, but polyester or polyacryl or whatever is actually better during the winter season, because artificial materials wont absorb your sweat. but merino wool is absolutely the material of choice if one can afford it.)
writing this comment made me realize how much of a material nerd I became once researching how to stay warm based on the experience of outdoor enthusiasts. if you live in a cold climate, ditch all the fashion advice and listen to survival experts instead. and then combine your new knowledge with your fashion preferences and boom, best of both worlds.
YES!! I have been (slowly) replacing my sweaters with cotton ones that I find - they’re SO comfortable!!
I was just thinking about this with a pair of true black jeans I have!
I'm sure these websites are not earning any commission from linking the 'new' trends. /s
That was something I ended up cutting out of the video but YES! Coming up with something new for you to buy every year with THEIR links gives them a direct incentive 🤭
Legally, they have to disclose that, but ask me if I think a constantly online 20-something with a personality as deep as a puddle has any idea
I think “puddle jeans” is a jab at, how very long wide legged jeans tend to soak up mud and water from puddles😅
story of my life
It's actually because they puddle at your feet but two things can be true at once, lol
@ lol I guess i got a little turned around, English is my second language and I would have used the word “bunching”
I also live in a city filled with both very long pants AND a lot of puddles, which makes mud soaked hemlines quite a common sight
@katrinechristensen3429 Nope, your English is fine. Bunching/puddling are used in a similar way.
I’m 53, and have seen sooooo many trend cycles.
Wear what you like, and what suits your style.
tbh i love the feel of chenille. wool is so hit or miss, i can't with a scratchy sweater
I personally feel that light wash jeans give more of a cool girl vibe vs dark wash is more polished?! Skinny jeans might be out, but I still personally love them specially during winter with tall boots, it's just the perfect combo and it's warm.
Men prefer women wearing skinny jeans anyway. It looks better, so why appease fashion conscious women and wear baggy jeans?
But apparently it can and does but it’s expensive
i was actually recently thinking about how i personally like a deer print vibe and you really rarely see it. so funny that you brought up the idea of a deer print trend. personally i've never vibed with the popular animal prints but there's something about deer print that feels more subtle to me? i don't know, there was a deer print dress on pinterest ages ago that i vibed with
Deer print it's an animal print I could get behind! It feels more soft and subtle, I like that
I feel like the rest of the animal prints give very "sexy, cool party girl" energy, while deer print reads as more dainty, soft and feminine.
Trend cycles are so short as to be utterly useless to follow.
As a short person, I could never do a cuffed jean. It reminds me of having to cuff my jeans in MS and HS. I will continue to buy my petite jeans.
:) totally same but I still cuff them I like the dorky Weezer rockabilly look :)
Most of the stuff I wear is considered outdated 🤣🤣🤣 but that’s ok 😌 I just love watching the trends because is fun but I don’t take them too serious 😄 great video ❤
you will pry skinny jeans + knee-high boots from my cold dead hands
jeggings jeggings jeggings lmao
No we wont lol
Truly stylish people don’t follow trends just wear what they like and are conducive with their lifestyle, xo
Personal style > chasing trends to be trendy, everytime
The cuffed jean trend made me laugh because I am tall and I chop the bottoms off all my jeans, fray the raw edges and then cuff them. I like the way they look with flats and my Docs. Everything I wear is odd and quirky and trends in general just make me laugh. I love watching videos about them though!
Im so here for trends on their way out....that way I can snatch them up for cheap at the thrift!! Lol
Social media influencers are under constant pressure to create new content which leads them to create and deflate trends at rapid pace. It never moved this fast before social media.
whenever a rich person says something looks "cheap" I get so angry lol
yeah, as if looking expensive and classy is all we want in an outfit...
My broad shoulders can’t hack the fitted blazer - I still remember the pain, never againnnnn
Saaaame.. or worse with broad shoulders? Fitted blazer and skinny jeans 🥴
Lol the broken umbrella trend feels classist to me- like everyone wants a nice working umbrella but investing a lot of money on something like that isn’t practical for everyone, sometimes you just pick up a 15$ one from target.
"oh you can't buy a $410 Burberry umbrella...hmmm" haha also those $15 umbrellas at target slap! my clear one is from there and it's so amazing!
For 15$, I buy 5 umbrellas 😂
I like your attitude toward clothing and the industry.
Hard agree on not getting rid of "outdated" pieces! Tossing them for the next trend is just so unnecessary and wasteful!
Seems like comfort is also just out :( like everything is low rise and snatched and uncomfortable

That monochomatic green look in the article about the big scarves 🤤
Must be the Gemini in me
I’m a reseller and fur and faux fur coats are in in literally any style they sell so fast!
Bunch of clowns be out there wasting resources buying 400$ Burberry umbrellas that looks like they’re from your local drugstore 🤡🤡
i never stop wearing skinny jeans so them coming back is, okay, they’ll be easier to find in thrift stores soon
The trends cycles are tiring
Can’t we all just accept that light wash denim looks better on some people and dark wash denim looks better on others? I’m happy for me (team dark wash) but I feel bad for everyone who is being told that they don’t have style for wearing the currently less trendy, lighter wash denim, when I would argue that wearing what looks good on you regardless of the trend cycle points to a strong sense of style.
I personally don't like skinny jeans anymore but in public i see so many people still wear and rock them especially for certain body types it really enhanced their figures
I, too, loved my clear umbrella until my cat chewed it up 🥲
😮
Such a thing a cat would do haha
I am so done with skinny jeans.
Not that i haven't kept mine (although i am not wearing them), but they
have been popular for sooooo many years and i wanted them gone for
such a long time already.
So i wish that skinny jeans will not get in style for at least 10 more years from now, so that
not everyone is going to wear them again.
I feel like at this point of time you see much more different styles on the streets
and i love that. I don't mind people wearing skinny jeans, but i like to see
all the variety that we have now on the streets.
I sort of like all the tones of jeans. I have light, medium, indigo and black wash jeans. It depends what vibes I'm going for
I always wear flares/bell bottoms. Sometimes I am in style but often I am not. Right now they are fashionable again so I am looking forward to finding them in the thrift shops soon.
Thanks for pushing thrifting and away from fast fashion and all the permission you give folks to be themselves 😊
I wear slim leg jeans because the wide-leg ones look terrible on me. Other than that, I wear classic and boho pieces that fit my style. The trend videos are interesting though! Thanks.
The thumbnail SENT ME. As a Minnesotan, the idea of a midrift in winter is insane 😂
wait i loved this video idea. it was sort of de-influencing while also influencing to lean into your own personal style
Clear umbrella brilliant idea!!! Thank you ❤
I've been looking forward to wearing my leopard print faux fur coat, and seeing the peak trendiness and the inevitable looming downfall makes me uneasy. I see why some people try to gatekeep the things they like.
Having been stuck walking in a downpour in a short pile faux fur with a hood once, it survived beautifully!
Do you mean merino wool and chenille?
You can pry gingham print out of my cold, dead hands.
I'm never replacing it with leopard, I don't even like animal print.
Same goes for bows, bows forever! 🎀
lmaoo the broken umbrella one - i've been using this foldable umbrella Ive had since highschool. Like it still works but the're this one metal section that's a bit bent, but apparently that's so unchic of me 😭😂
I agree with you about preferring the lighter or medium wash jeans over the very dark jeans. It could be because I am blonde and blue eyed like you!
ive seen a few belted blazers/denim jackets around lately that intruigue me... like theyre an oversize cut but then have an attached belt. sort of best of both worlds
I'm a straight/slim jean person, but a straight to wide leg wool trouser person. Definitely depends on the type of pants I'm wearing. I'm just glad that modern low rise is closer to mid rise and my short torso can finally breath.
When I wear my light wash jeans, I get more compliments…
If it’s forcasting for rain I would NOT wear my mink coat at ALL!😂 mine is vintage and I love it so much. It very heavy and warm. But would never ever wear it if it’s raining!! When it comes to trends, I don’t follow them, I just wear what I love. I always enjoy your videos! ❤
My furrier told me wearing it in the rain isn’t bad- as minks get wet in their natural state and repel it somewhat
The trick is to shake it out and let it dry before putting it back in the closet or it’s bag
“Everything i wear is outdated???” - relatable. Haha
I didn't know what a chenille was until this video. I just bought my first chenille sweater and absolutely love it! It's so soft and it adds more visual interested to what would be basic outfits
I just bought a pair of black skinny jeans off of everlane on super-sale. They just look too darn good with boots and oversized tops!
In Sweden, leather jackets is a summer and autumn garment rest of the year wool or Vintage fauxfur or Vintage fur as otherwise to darned cold.
The blazer fix is easy. Add a belt to your current blazer instead of buying a new one
I only care about trends in terms of how easily I can find clothes that I like when I shop.
3:11 Tell me you live in SoCal without telling me you live in SoCal 😂
😂
me calling them unnecessary when I own 3 black leather jackets 🤦🏼♀
Absolutely not looking to offend anyone here because fashion is so subjective, but... I always thought indigo denim looked super cheap! 😅
