We welcome Nick Ponting to the channel to visit the home of MINI and check out the new 2021 MINI Cooper S.
For decades Mini’s have been some of the most distinctive, iconic and trendy cars on the road. This is new 2021 MINI is the most recent facelift version and until you take a closer look, MINI have certainly gone with less is more.
So, what about the inside on the new MINI?
When you jump in it’s had an obvious makeover, with a fancy 8.8” central display which is touch screen, the steering wheel’s been re designed which if you wish now can be heated. There’s a new 5” instrument cluster display instead of the old analogue gauge and even a new design for the air vents.
Apart from that the car retains a lot of MINI’s original characteristics.
Since MINI registered their first car all that time ago back in 1959 they’ve sold a staggering 10,000,000 vehicles, and a car rolls of their production line a staggering, every 67 seconds.

Totally agree … not up to the channels normal high standards. This viewed more like a Mini media release 🤔
I love most of your videos, but I felt this one was a bit lacking. I didn't feel like I learnt all that much about the car, just a few figures. Most of the time was spent on the (admittedly beautiful) exterior shots. I would love a bit more discussion on the feel of the car at least.
Great summary and overall round up of the new mini, im due to pick my mini cooper s sport in mid Oct in all black. I've gone for the stealth look can't wait

Problem is (in my eyes) that only a small niche of MINIs clientele is looking for “more angular, aggressive design“. They‘re supposed to be cute and friendly looking, except for the JCW maybe. My mom just went ahead and bought one of the last new pre-facelift cars off the lot as she didn‘t like the boy-racer look on her Mom-spec Cooper, and I‘m afraid I kind of sympathize.
A fair comment, but there are also some that prefer the more angular designs! Each to their own opinions! 😊
Yeah, I'm not sure who they target with the awful straight lines and bradford-spec black trims.
It looks like it has penguin eyes.

Yeah, since last generation I think they look more like a mini SUV or something. Nevertheless, I like the front end design and the lack of chrome content around the car, black finish looks much better IMO. Big fan of the 2.0t + DCT powertrain, drove a 2019 Cooper S and had so much fun.
@@cduartebr yeah I was next to a woman say in her 60s maybe at the lights in a Cooper D while in my impreza and fair to say she got off the mark quite swiftly and I ended up pulling in behind her 🤭

It's kind of like looking at a "new model" 911 and wondering what Porsche did different, only to realize it leaps and bounds above the car it replaced under the restomod skin.

It is a wonderful package, there’s no doubt about that. However, I only like very light colour interiors and I don’t think MINI do those? 🤔
They do light brown leather seats, with matching soft plastics.
I love that they still use the word "Mini" given that they're about the same size as Ford Mondeos lol 🤣

@@zisssou it does if you consider the original 1959 Austin Mini was tiny, but the newer BMW ones are almost twice the size and getting larger, due to safety features and crumple zones and airbags and all the rest of it

In answer to the question posed in the video title: no, the best hot hatch on the market is, without doubt, the GR Yaris. I’ve always wanted to love the BMW Mini but have found those I’ve driven to be hugely disappointing.
At a comparable price though this will be up against the i20n or fiesta st which this would get blown out of the water by them.

If they make a GP version I’m sure some petrol heads will buy it. But they’ve still cornered the female market.

Yawn. What’s the point of comparing it to a classic mini, when there’s no way it would pass safety standards, etc? Compare it to other hatchbacks - of which most are much larger.
