    That "I know", said as someone that remembered everything he did. All his mistakes... al the death and suffering caused by those damned blades. Knowing the fact that the only way he can fix this is going back to the darkness... never being able to flee from it.

    It is truly admirable how deeply emotionally he delved into this performance. You listen to his voice and then his Kratos voice, and you see how much he has to put on to get there, but then he goes the extra mile, he lets real emotions come through, the full spectrum of sadness, guilt, vulnerability, rage, desperation. It is remarkable what he does with it. He sells the impossible, the toughest, angriest, most badass video game action hero of all time, just frozen and shaking with shame over everything that brought him to this point, everything that made Kratos before, he hates himself for it, he is so ashamed that the thing that terrifies him more than anything in the world, more than any Titan or Dragon or God... Is that his tiny, scrawny, innocent little son will be ashamed of him too. I think perhaps that is what Chris finds so emotional about this, is how he relates to Kratos as a father, this idea, this fear that you aren't who your child thinks you are, that perhaps you're not good enough for them and don't deserve the reverence they have for you that no feeling in the world can compare to, and worse yet the fear that they may never look at you that way again if they got to know you better.
    Another scene like that is him telling Atreus he's a god, and after just a few seconds of silence, Kratos desperately looks back, asking for some sort of reaction from him because he can't bear the anticipation, only to be relieved when Atreus takes the news seemingly well. Cory absolutely made the right call in choosing to tell this story, and they got the perfect man for the lead part.

    Chris judge is the most perfect man for the role of old and wise kratos. He learn wisely to be a better person and to be a greater father in the game that it highlightened kratos to have genuine emotions throughout the story that it made the game so realistic. I already feel honored just watching the gameplay and i hope this impact the game industry to venture and create new things to bring back the excitement and adventurous feeling when we first played a game.

    I'm not surprised at all this made him cry. "You will always be a monster." "I know. But I am your monster no more." It is such a deep, powerful, emotional, moving moment. The weight of it, the weight that in some way we all feel, we're all monsters in our own way, some more than others. Knowing that no matter what you do, you will always be a monster, you cannot escape it, it will always be a part of you. But in the second game he reconciles this. He knows he is a monster, Heimdall was right, with his final word, "Monster...". He's horrified at what he did but he still did it, no matter what he does, that monster will always live inside of him. But when he talks to Thor, and Thor is experiencing the same pain and shame and regret that he did in that moment with Athena, KNOWING he's a monster, KNOWING he's done so many evil unredeemable things, and in that moment he becomes who he needed when Athena said that to you. "Don't you know...WHAT I'VE DONE?!" "YES! But what will you do now?" That's what HE needed to hear in that moment, that he will always be a monster, that he can't change the past, but he CAN be better moving forward. He can be a monster, but he doesn't have to be evil. And that's the key. Living with the pain, with the regret, and pushing forward through it and trying every day to keep it under control and to be a better person. Yeah, that would make me cry too.

    I keep coming back to this clip. So many years later I still think about it. How it affects me and the times I feel I need to hear him say the words “I Know” really affects me emotionally. Being a fan of God Of War, seeing that tear drop just everything about it. Makes me sad, hurt, angry and regret for the shit mistakes ive done in the past.

    Every time Christopher cries in this performance I also do. He's such a handsome man and in the documentary he explains this one further.
    When his children were growing up he was always busy with work. God of War made him realize together with Sunny Suljic, what he had missed. Working all the time instead of being a dad to his children. Myself being a father of a 6 years old girl as well that I can barely see due to different circumstances I can totally relate to him.

    I have a feeling they used a more subtle take for the final product, because it would not really be in Kratos’s character to show his bare emotions in presence of Athena. Or anyone, really. In the final take, you still see all of Christopher Judge’s emotion in Kratos’s eyes.

    • @robinanwaldt
      @robinanwaldt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DraKaleel 18 I never said it was about revenge. But Athena’s presence is a major factor here. Also Kratos was never a person displaying his emotions this heavily.

    "A lot of this performance, for me, is a love letter to my kids and an apology"
    I think that is a struggle a lot of parents go through, making choices that could make or break your baby's life every single day of its life and knowing that making a mistake is inevitable. I think what Christopher meant to say with that is that it is an apology for any mistakes he has made, and any of the mistakes that have yet to come. I love this guy, he seems like a great person and a good father.
