My favorite part about this ending is that, at the very end, Valhalla knew that what Kratos needed lastly was time. Time to sit, time to feel, and time to process his newfound perspective and rekindled hope.
The way the light hits him as he sits, almost as though the ashes have faded off his body completely and you can see that mediteranean bronze once more. 4:45
This is the biggest shock that i have ever seen just young Kratos sitting on the throne quietly while our older kratos speaks as if hes in a greek play And its one of the best if not the best scenes I've ever seen in God of war history
Hear hear. Christopher Judge truly is a worthy successor of Kratos’s new voice. It only makes sense too considering how much Kratos has aged. Most people don’t sound the exact same way forever. So why should Kratos?
How sick would it have been if TC Carson returned to voice young Kratos here, and you think he stays silent till the very end where he speaks in response as he stands up from the throne and pulls out the Blades of Chaos. The last test the player and Kratos need to overcome is young Kratos, but his healthbar instead says "God of War".
@Borr77 It doesn't have to be. This isn't the real young Kratos. It's a representation of all the regrets and self-loathing that Kratos has for his younger self. The Blades of Chaos work better for that. They're the weapons that unleashed the monster in him that killed his first family. The Blades of Athena are just a set of replacement blades that he carried for a while.
I think at least he should have uttered old Kratos last line. We are more than that. Maybe even both of them at the same time. Complete silence felt out of place like they were going to add dialogue but didn’t
@@deadchivalry1698 Every single blade he had has a very important representation for him, chaos being the monster, Athena being his years as a god of pain and destruction, and exile the vengeance, its just lazy writing if they put the chaos blade on his godhood version cause they have very explicit representations for kratos and are not so futile as "just another pair that he carried"
Honestly, it only made sense for Old Kratos to fight young Kratos, neither to win or lose, but to realize that neither can live without the other in a way, and young kratos dissipating into old kratos so that way Old Kratos truly masters thyself.
lol it would of been great if it was a legit voice over by him. oh wells though. this scene is great as it is in game. silent young kratos listening to his older self. self reflection amidst his hellish behavior from an older time when he was nothing but filled with hatred and rage.
I couldn't help but cry at this ending as a soldier it's hard to find peace with the things I have done it took some time but I accepted it and chose to be better a move past my actions kratos you deserve your peace
I honestly think a single specific line from Greek Kratos would’ve been amazing. Something like this: Norse Kratos is giving his speech to his younger self before he pauses for a moment, Greek Kratos taking the opportunity to solemnly but angrily say, “*WE* Are what the gods have made us.” Norse Kratos in shock could follow up with his outburst before reflecting on himself. “NO! You chose! …I chose.”
I like this. Everyone has good points about how it's better as monologue, and I don't totally disagree. Like young kratos sorta shouldn't have anything to say here, but one line like this could go a long way to enchance the confrontational moments of monologue. For young kratos to say much more, they should've just given us the fight and made him the final boss of Valhalla. I would've ATE that up.
Young Kratos: Before Reminding me that I've Choose To be like this better Think About who you talking and better think about it I'm you and you and me are one in short we both did the choosing who we are and what we have become!
this show how personal the self monolouge is, it's just him staring at his pass in the face and acknowledge his worth and his wrong all by himself, hearing young kratos talking is cool and everything but it will make us hype for the wrong reason and break the mood of the whole scene, since he don't have anything to add for old kratos that he right now doesn't know the whole point of the DLC is him gaining new perspectives on things, young kratos not talking back and staring is not him trying to be agressive like "TALK FAST, i don't have time for your rambling" implying he doesn't want to change and if that is his mental state rn he wouldn't want to sit on the throne instead young kratos be like "i should listen to this guy because i don't know what to say and he's right" that would imply he WANT to change to "be better"
The voice became silent after old Kratos' monologue got closer to the truth. "you need not remind me" seems poignant to me, since it reminds old Kratos he can't just rely on hot blooded righteousness this time.
I really waited in fear for young Kratos to talk back. He looks terrifying. I was even expecting that Kratos' young self would somehow attack and attempt to kill his old self during his speech. It did not happen either.
@@nedennicinnasl2849 yes, Young Kratos would have walked through Scandinavia in 2 hours, it’s funny to call the Scandinavian gods gods, some are mediocre, they even fuck up the helpless Kratos😊, Thor wouldn’t dare to bully Young
Christopher+old man kratos = a more wise calmer kratos, willing to take things one step at a time to recover, to understand ones past is to improves ones future. CT Carson+young kratos= Young and spire, filled with rage of betyral, not willing to talk it through, but understands his place.
I actually like the fact that young kratos dosent speak but I feel a last echo line when kratos looks away and young kratos says something like "...you seek redemption.... Prove you have CHANGED" And either a fight ensues or old kratos turns around and sees an empty chair but now adorned with a blue light over it to represent hope and the norse land
I never realized this, but after kratos said "you are more than that" you can see the realization in his eyes and face and also in a subtle gasp-he realized he was talking about himself the whole time and finally accepted his past. I like that subtle detail.
2:57 the delivery of this line is amazing.. the way he says it has genuine Belief behind it, like he found the truth to something. which is exactlly what happened in this scene. Both TC carson and Judge are amazing actors, each fitting their kratos.
Kratos really is the Antithesis of the "Die a Hero or live long enough to become the villain" speech from the Dark Knight Trilogy huh? its good to see him finally finding his own hope
They're both good for different reasons. TC was great at being a rage-filled monster while Christopher does a great job at being a calmer and wiser Kratos.
@@clips-are-random they're both amazing for their own version of Kratos, idk what the guy above us on, guessing some people just want to argue on the internet for no reason. It's just that in my head whenever I think of Kratos, the most memorable lines are in Carsons voice.
I think it's beautiful how Kratos comes to terms with himself. He's seen himself as nothing but a monster, even after all he's been through and everyone who reaffirms him. The only one left who needs to reaffirm him... is himself. He understands here the wrongs he's done will never go away. The loss. The guilt. The pain. It's never going to go away, not fully, but he chooses to grow beyond his suffering and accepts the "monster". And as a result, the monster goes away and the man, the god, remains. Not as a tool of pain, but as a person who decides who he wants to be and for that person to protect the world he has come to love. He is no one's slave, but serves the people as a peaceful man who has known violence intimately. This love, this empathy and this self worth is what I believe is the true measure of a man. To conquer your demons and accept yourself for not only who you are, but who you can be.
Awesome video wish tc Carlson could have came back an fought his older self but this dlc without fighting is even better thank you for the video and happy new year
I was really really hope Carson would make a cameo as young Kratos to talk back against himself in the future. It ain't there, but enough to shred tears as an incredible journey of self revelation. This, though, just topple my expectation! Just a few words is more than enough. Thank you for making this ad-lip. I cried again, mind you.
I haven't played this game, only GoW1 on PS2. But this scene reflects to everyone, every human. If we face our old selves, we will tell how much more we are than we thought we were.
This is very close to perfection, I'd only adjust two minor things. Lower the volume of his voice slightly (since he's a bit further away from our view point) and a slight echo to match the one of the old Kratos.
One of the things I’ve always loved about this speech is how we see glimmers of Young Kratos in it. Specifically around “in service.” It sounds almost like… Disgust? In the word? There’s pride in his voice, a flicker of selfishness before he catches himself. Kratos had lived his Godhood as a self-serving man who refused to be “of service,” and we hear him catch himself before faltering to it again.
Would have loved a Kratos vs young Kratos fight. Fighting with himself realizing that he can’t fight his past but learn from it and move on as a better god.
Apparently they wanted Judge to voice Young Kratos but he refused. Idk why theyre refusing to call CARSON back for the voice. If he's mad about how they handled replacing him and refused to vome back i 100% agree but at the same time i really want him to come back
No he is not angry just disappointed and heartbroken they didn't even contact him at all even after voicing him in six games. Word is they are going to have him voice kratos again soon. The young kratos anyway supposedly they are going to have him do an in between game how he got from Greek to Norse mythology.
@@azazelreeds so you are saying the current voice actor which has no say so or any knowledge of what is next said that and you take that as gospel? He is an actor no more no less.

I know why Carson didn’t come back for this and fair enough to him, after he was snubbed I can understand not wanting to be a part of this. But damn I wish I could’ve heard him.
I love this! Even though TC didn’t voice him, Kratos confronts his old self. When he says: “You are more than that.” He’s finally realizing for HIMSELF instead of anyone else telling him. A God of Hope indeed.
I know having TC Carson would've more interesting but the way they kept it was deep. Young Kratos being scolded for everything he did as Kratos now understands he can still be the God of War and not be one of destruction but peace
The line "there are reasons for that" fits incredibly well, since the entirety of Valhalla's story leading up to this moment was about Kratos coming to terms with what he hadn't forgiven himself for and was about Kratos realizing that, above all else, his actions were ultimately just the byproduct of the choices and actions of the Greek Gods, that ultimately, he was just a man, doing what he was used to and what he'd been conditioned to do.
If only the final battle in this DLC was Old Kratos vs Young Kratos the battle and the back and forth dialogue would’ve been epic! Truly mastering thyself
Týr is awesome though. He starts off as this chill hippie guy we know from the main game, he's here helping us out, it's whatever-- But each time you see him he's more armored up and intimidating like "But seriously, _defend yourself."_
kratos cannot fully blame himself for his past actions, the greek gods were at fault for all of it and they met there karma for it all. kratos now needs to just heal himself from all he had to endure
@@lornegreen6755 I'm not sure how he could've walked away after his family gets murdered because of a corrupt god. Maybe afterwards? @@anthonym51 I said the same thing. It seemed there was no bad blood between him and the company I don't see why they didn't give him the younger kratos role maybe it was due to scheduling for either party or just not enough money and there's also him possibly turning the role down
@@yehudahdavis4368 I think it's possible they may have offered Christopher the opportunity to play young Kratos in the DLC and he turned it down because I'm hearing news about how he wouldn't play a younger Kratos out of respect for TC. Why would this news just come out now? Of course this is mostly speculation on my part!
@@yehudahdavis4368Wait that's not true , TC did mocap for God Of War : Ascension.
This is the biggest shock that i have ever seen just young Kratos sitting on the throne quietly while our older kratos speaks as if hes in a greek play
And its one of the best if not the best scenes I've ever seen in God of war history
Soliloquy is perhaps one of the best ways to convey such self-reflection, especially for Kratos.
It would have been a great shock for me as well... if there weren't 500 damn videos all over YT that spoiled it in the thumbnails.
I grew up with TC Carson but Christopher Judge did a phenomenal job
If he is in his godhood then it should be blade of athena
Better idea would be the ghost of Sparta
Honestly, it only made sense for Old Kratos to fight young Kratos, neither to win or lose, but to realize that neither can live without the other in a way, and young kratos dissipating into old kratos so that way Old Kratos truly masters thyself.
Hope they bring the old Kratos back in the next game
Great to hear Tc Carson as Kratos again ❤️😊
lol it would of been great if it was a legit voice over by him. oh wells though. this scene is great as it is in game. silent young kratos listening to his older self. self reflection amidst his hellish behavior from an older time when he was nothing but filled with hatred and rage.
I couldn't help but cry at this ending as a soldier it's hard to find peace with the things I have done it took some time but I accepted it and chose to be better a move past my actions kratos you deserve your peace
Thank you for your service and sacrifices. I hope you have the time you need, to recover and rest.
I honestly think a single specific line from Greek Kratos would’ve been amazing. Something like this:
Norse Kratos is giving his speech to his younger self before he pauses for a moment,
Greek Kratos taking the opportunity to solemnly but angrily say, “*WE* Are what the gods have made us.”
Norse Kratos in shock could follow up with his outburst before reflecting on himself. “NO! You chose!
“WE chose”
Young Kratos: Before Reminding me that I've Choose To be like this better Think About who you talking and better think about it I'm you and you and me are one in short we both did the choosing who we are and what we have become!
this show how personal the self monolouge is, it's just him staring at his pass in the face and acknowledge his worth and his wrong all by himself, hearing young kratos talking is cool and everything but it will make us hype for the wrong reason and break the mood of the whole scene, since he don't have anything to add for old kratos that he right now doesn't know
the whole point of the DLC is him gaining new perspectives on things, young kratos not talking back and staring is not him trying to be agressive like "TALK FAST, i don't have time for your rambling" implying he doesn't want to change and if that is his mental state rn he wouldn't want to sit on the throne instead young kratos be like "i should listen to this guy because i don't know what to say and he's right" that would imply he WANT to change to "be better"
I agree with you 100%, but it’s still cool to think about how it would’ve went down.
Think it would’ve been cool for young Kratos to speak and reflect on how he felt with the two agreeing that they need to be better
The voice became silent after old Kratos' monologue got closer to the truth. "you need not remind me" seems poignant to me, since it reminds old Kratos he can't just rely on hot blooded righteousness this time.
Would’ve loved to hear him yell
I LOST EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF YOU! to old kratos
Nah
young Kratos looks scary sitting there
That's why he is the ghost of sparta.
I really waited in fear for young Kratos to talk back. He looks terrifying. I was even expecting that Kratos' young self would somehow attack and attempt to kill his old self during his speech. It did not happen either.
Do you want him to die there? It's better not to mess with Young Kratos
@@НурдосТоктогулов Hahaha, you are right. Let us not make him angry.
Ya well if they were gonna go down that road they should’ve made him come back and voice young kratos for the memories in helheim
Young Kratos: "Be quick with your words!"
Old Kratos: Proceeds to monologue and insert long, dramatic pauses for four minutes.
Damn bro good job,i got goosebump just hearing tc's voice back for young kratos
I love how the community shows the respect TC Carson deserves, it's a shame Santa Monica doesn't do the same
I actually like the fact that young kratos dosent speak but I feel a last echo line when kratos looks away and young kratos says something like
"...you seek redemption....
1:11 This is a proof of concept of what could have been. Well done on this specific detail, it almost feels real!
TC did an amazing job and he'll always be THE Kratos in my heart.
@@devin6079 I don't think you know the meaning of the world "Literally", sit down and stop talking like a basic white girl.
I totally agree. Judge does have some bangers like "Death can have me when it earns me." But TC's are better.
@@clips-are-random carson could do old kratos aswell u norse fanboys need to stop saying that same bullshit LMAO u dont deserve the franchise
This is a perfect monologue, between his pitch, his tone and his pauses. I don’t know how this is not the game of the year
The sheer size of elden ring is mental I've seen others play it and it isn't for me but I can definitely see why it was game of the year
-applause- good sh¡t man, that scene really could have been a conversation. Thank you for making this happen for me 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it
I think it's beautiful how Kratos comes to terms with himself.
A scene between Carson and Judge would have been incredible man. Just seeing him was plenty more that I was expecting though :)
Like damn it's too good! Good job
Thank you!!
Dude, even just the "you need not remind me" line would've been so sick. Kinda makes that pause make sense too.
Valhalla dlc was basically Kratos going thro therapy and it still was one of the best game dlc ever made
Did anyone else walk into that room and think "Holy shit he's going to have to fight himself as the final superboss"?
For those who wonder why young Kratos disappeared: he got bored with an old fool and went to clap some chicks for red orbs.
I haven't played this game, only GoW1 on PS2. But this scene reflects to everyone, every human. If we face our old selves, we will tell how much more we are than we thought we were.
(Young) Kratos rises from the Throne and walks to his Older self and says “Then *earn* it”
Ooooooooooooooo that would have been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
No matter how much I rewatch this scene I am always on the verge of tears.
The editing is fire bro
This is very close to perfection, I'd only adjust two minor things.
Lower the volume of his voice slightly (since he's a bit further away from our view point)
and a slight echo to match the one of the old Kratos.
Now do a funny one with him yelling; "Zeeeuuuusss!!" Or "I am the god of war!"
The whole time kratos did that speech, I was hoping young kratos would say at least a brief line with the TC voice.
I like how the red marks on his body kept fading away over the years
Music transitions from the same old theme to the new one. Nice!
You are more than that!
Was hoping to hear, "I am what the Gods have made me".❤
"Be quick with your words!" Haha this line got us all! xD
A smart man learns from other men’s mistakes
A Wise man learns from his own.
And he became a god of sitting for a while
One of the things I’ve always loved about this speech is how we see glimmers of Young Kratos in it. Specifically around “in service.” It sounds almost like… Disgust? In the word? There’s pride in his voice, a flicker of selfishness before he catches himself. Kratos had lived his Godhood as a self-serving man who refused to be “of service,” and we hear him catch himself before faltering to it again.
3:30 imagine the intro of God of war 2 starts again
I love how gentle the Old Kratos has become. ❤
When two tidal waves of testosterone meet. It’s also great to hear the old music again.
2:28 that little whimper after he says hope gets me every time😔
Would have been cool if young kratos was the final boss fight in the Valhalla dlc
It all came full circle. Started "in service" of the gods and ended "in service" of a hopeful mankind that needed guidance.
Would have loved a Kratos vs young Kratos fight. Fighting with himself realizing that he can’t fight his past but learn from it and move on as a better god.
Wouldnt make sence
This whole scene is playing out and all I can think of is that chair is probably fucking freezing
i really wanted young kratos to have a bossfight with current kratos
I had always hoped that the end of Valhalla would have a secret boss fight where we fight young Kratos.
Nah. Judge said even if they did ask him (they didn't) he would've refused anyway
@@azazelreeds so you are saying the current voice actor which has no say so or any knowledge of what is next said that and you take that as gospel? He is an actor no more no less.
@@joshuakeely5593 He's talking about Christopher Judge himself not what Christopher thinks TC Carson would do
@@joshuakeely5593 I am saying Street heard wrong. The rumor he is talking about started when the current actor said he didn't want to voice a young Kratos, and would have said no if they asked.
People have been taking it as they did ask, but that's not true
I wish there were more words spoken. But the "You need not remind me" was really good.
Bruh great minds think alike because I was working on my own version of this scene 😂

@@TheMrblaster2012 I got you.
Having Young Kratos being like "I'm like this for a reason" was actually really cool. You see both their points.
Hearing Kratos's voice go soft sells the scene for me oml
So cool that you can see Young Kratos's mouth move while speaking too. Nice touch!
I know having TC Carson would've more interesting but the way they kept it was deep. Young Kratos being scolded for everything he did as Kratos now understands he can still be the God of War and not be one of destruction but peace
The cop out not having old and young kratos duke it out
I WAS SO HYPED I FKING YELLED IRL!!!! FR!!
Aww, just hearing Carson makes me want to revisit the first three games.
Not gonna lie when I first saw this scene I thought there was going to be a fight between old kratos and young kratos
Damn got me emotional the old god of war music goes so well with this scene very few games can do that to me, this series is truly amazing
Nice vid and happy new years 🎉
Happy new year
The line "there are reasons for that" fits incredibly well, since the entirety of Valhalla's story leading up to this moment was about Kratos coming to terms with what he hadn't forgiven himself for and was about Kratos realizing that, above all else, his actions were ultimately just the byproduct of the choices and actions of the Greek Gods, that ultimately, he was just a man, doing what he was used to and what he'd been conditioned to do.
So my mind kinda went wild and really thought young Kratos was gonna be a boss battle to signify Kratos overcoming his past
If Carson really participated in this conversation, fans will extremely shedding tears...
Or even young kratos faces the old..🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The fact that this is a free dlc was such an unnecessary but generously touching choice by the company, and i can not be thankful enough :)
And that right there is why leadership shouldn't be taken for granted
If only the final battle in this DLC was Old Kratos vs Young Kratos the battle and the back and forth dialogue would’ve been epic! Truly mastering thyself
Tyr was better at doing his job than Athena here.
Týr is awesome though. He starts off as this chill hippie guy we know from the main game, he's here helping us out, it's whatever-- But each time you see him he's more armored up and intimidating like "But seriously, _defend yourself."_
This scene right here is like staring in the mirrior and looking at what you where before
The chills I got!
TC Carson voicing young kratos in this frfr would have made this perfect
kratos cannot fully blame himself for his past actions, the greek gods were at fault for all of it and they met there karma for it all. kratos now needs to just heal himself from all he had to endure
Actually, it’s a bit more complicated than that. Yes, the gods did him dirty, but there were several instances when kratos could’ve walked away
@@lornegreen6755 I'm not sure how he could've walked away after his family gets murdered because of a corrupt god. Maybe afterwards? Well, he kinda got plopped on Olympus after trying to kill himself...
Well, what about God of War 2? Surely he could've walked away then? Well, he's the god of war cause Ares is gone, so he's gotta do his job and whatnot... oh wait, Zeus just stole his powers and Olympus is falling apart. Kratos should probably better things, right? That's what he sets out to do...
And then he gets betrayed by Gaia. Wow. By this point he's already at Olympus, he can't just walk away.
So what in the world do you mean there are several instances where he could've walked away? From the very start he was doing everything right. Things were forced upon him.
Things that could've make the new GoW better :
> T.C. Carson's voice for Spartan's Rage mode and young Kratos cameos.
just a repost from the first video this is a what if this happened when Kratos said a god of hope.
old Kratos: a god of hope...
Young Kratos: No your not a god of hope! your a god of war! you killed ALL THE GODS!! We killed all of the gods!
old Kratos: I chose this path to get rid of that past! I wanted to start over and not to be known as the ghost of Sparta! I have a kid now That I care for and love for! but no You are cruel, and arrogant, and selfish, Young Kratos: I SAID THEIR ARE REASONS FOR THAT saying that while standing up from his chair happy new years guys!
