E3 2016: God of War Reveal Live Reaction (Front Row) From Sony Press Conference

- This was the most epic moment I have experienced at E3 since the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty trailer from E3 2001. The PlayStation Nation and the gaming community as a whole came together in a big way that day. Thank you for watching.

No sugarcoating, no lies, real gameplay. That's how you reveal a game. Games should not be published if they can't meet the expectations set at the reveal.
Amen
And we have the days before there .
Expectations were exceeded in the actual game:
- Blades of Chaos returning
- Kratos recalling all of the PS2/PSP/PS3 adventures
- Young Kratos as a GoW skin
- God of War 2 theme in the Valhalla DLC

11:09 I always liked this bit of characterization from Kratos. Sure, he's probably a bit frustrated that Atreus accidentally shot him, but it also comes off to me as he understood the intensity of the situation as opposed to Atreus missing the deer earlier where it wasn't as dire.

This was the perfect reboot because it was a perfect demonstration that you connect with the audience gamers for what they want to play. God of War was THE game that came out for highschool teens and young men who played it for the most testosterone pumping, hype inducing game fit for hormone fueled boys who wanted to be like Kratos for being such a savage badass. Now they made a game much closer to that generation's age, where Kratos is now a next level badass who has to confront even stronger foes; the challenge of parenthood, to restrain his self destructive anger and surviving as a foreign exile god against another group of gods who want them dead. Cory Barlog wisely cashed in and succeeded in his gambit for a target audience who he knows will want to play the game and it was revolutionary because he brought back a game that is played in a different perspective.
This isn't really much of a reboot, more of a continuation from God of War 3. Other than that, completely agree with your comment.

in this trailer the troll comes from the bridge and in the game its different. But its great because when you cross the bridge in the game, atreus actually says “i expected there to be a troll under that bridge”. Pretty clever line to add right there haha. I love the passion this games has
Yeah its like atreus went into the past and future
@@KxrbonTh30ry it's actually like talking to the player (as if he have watched the E3 GOW reveal where the troll comes out at the bridge) so the player is being ready but it didn't happen
Also another reason for it could be that we know that the world serpent fought thor in ragnorak which occurs sometime in the future and was sent back into the past before he was born by odin which may have had a cataclysmic effect throughout the realms. In the original mythology, Loki is a actually the father of the World Serpent as well, which is why the World Serpent seems to recognize who Atreus is. And so Atreus instinctually felt that a troll would be there because he had been there before without even knowing it. To add on to that, there is a mural at the end of the game when they are in Jotunheim, which shows Kratos dying in Atreus’s arms which shows a snake coming out from the mouth of Atreus which could be how the world serpent was born
Dai Funka I believe so, since the world serpent from the future was sent back in time to before he was born, so it would make sense if the the world serpent from the future meets the version of himself from when he is eventually born by coming out of Loki’s mouth
Loki has gotta know everything!

CDM_Enigma I agree. Glad to hear about others having fun with the game.
I agree, I cant find anything wrong with this game besides the fact you dont get a trophy for beating it on the God Of War difficulty -_-. A lot of games dont hold my attention like this. I hate to say it, but it really lowered my expectations for red dead and last of us, which are my favorites, because of how great this was. Caught me by surprise because I didn't think much of the God Of War series. I'm sure Red Dead and especially Last Of Us will still be great games, but GOW set the bar way too high
__ __ God of War is very story driven, rather than combat driven. The option is there for those want want the difficulty, but in mind, it's a game to be savored and enjoyed, but not a game to overly challenge the player. It's much more exploration driven as well.
__ __ At least we know what the Game of the Year is! Unless RDR 2 and TLOU 2 somehow surpass it.
CDM_Enigma
I play the hardest difficulty on games because it makes me feel more accomplished when I finally beat it. Sounds corny but once you do it once, can't stop doing it. Also makes you get the most out your money.
I can see Last of us challenging this game but maybe not so much for red dead. Rockstars story are very Hollywoodish although red dead was their masterpiece. I just don't see them doing much with the sequel
Kratos getting angry that Atreus missed the door, and watching the rage meter build up and go back down in the top left corner is such a cool detail
To this day this remains the GREATEST live conference reveal in the history of gaming! Still gives me chills 6 years later!
Also I have to compliment all the musicians and the singers too and especially the composer Bear Mccreary all of them made this possible! thank you so much for this masterpiece of an OST! Also have too add that I feel a bit sorry for the people that understand Old Norse or Icelandic since the entire game pretty much got spoiled through the lyrics of the OST and also gotta add the OST is so beautiful it makes me cry every time I hear it especially around 4:07 when the lyrics basically say “He Needs A Father Not A God” such a good soundtrack!
At 5:52 they intentionally made him be still and quiet for a few seconds because they knew the crowd were gonna go crazy.
Oh shit. Yes
Are you not aware these games were literally PLAYED live? They had a PS4 and monitor set up in a booth or whatever they're called, up high on the side. Cory Barlog, who directed God Of War, was playing the demo. If you watch the God Of War E3 2016 live gameplay demo, on here, it shows him playing on the right of the screen, and shows his hands on the controller, so people knew it was legit gameplay. There was also a bunch of the game's developers in the audience, and they all said they did not expect the crowd to react like that.
@@cmcproductions26 what does that have to do with anything? I'm talking about the cutscene not the gameplay. Have you been to the movies where an actor says a joke and there's a small bit of silence since they know the crowd will laugh. After years do you really think the crowd was gonna stay quiet after seeing kratos?
@@1Guason3 Jeesh. Calm down fella. No need to get so defensive. I was merely stating a fact. I thought you meant right when the gameplay starts, and Kratos stays still for a few seconds, before beginning to walk. Not when he paused for a couple seconds, after saying "I am hungry"
@@cmcproductions26 well if you would've clicked on the timestamp in my original comment you would've known lol
Cory Barlog was nervous out of his mind right before this reveal, little did he know, the fans were all behind him with this game.
That shows why he is the best game director for the job. Not only was he involved in the beginning, but he's still humble about it, rather than being cocky about his accomplishments. He directs like he still has something to prove, even though he's created some of the greatest games ever. I can't wait for Ragnarök, it actually comes out on my birthday. So I think I'm gonna be "sick" the next 2 weeks after release.
I would be nervous too. Taking Kratos into a brand new mythology was a huge risk. It had to be amazing to work, and it was. Creators are often, even in the face of amazing work, their biggest critics and wonder if the public will love it as much as they do.
@@Kratosx23 yeah Cory is great. 2-3 months ago when the game was near finished the whole team and Cory weren't satisfied they were scared and said that the game wasn't ready and what they were going to do. the entire score for these games is just utter perfection.
This will go down in history as one of the coolest moments in the entertainment industry ever.
This is easily the greatest reveal of all time.
obviously the reveal ever

IDK Twilight Princess's was insane too.

Who's here in 2019? Spine chilling when you see Kratos in the doorway
One of the best if not the best Soft Reboot in the history of Gaming, hands down a Masterpiece for the Ages, the Team at SANTA MONICA and Cory Barlog have created a game that will be remembered as the most polished and one of the most beautiful game ever made, this is way i play games!.
Its good to See the good side of Kratos for once.
Know fire up that Playstation 4..........BOY!!!!
@@marcelcostache2504 GoW4 has probably set the standard for becoming one of the greatest games ever at an all time high. Not to mention Santa Monica Studios and Cory Barlog, the next game will undoubtedly be next big thing, for better or for worse.

I literally revisit this video every year just to get an inkling of the feeling I had when first watching this. This will forever remain my one and only most favorite E3 moment, EVER.

2018 was a golden year for gaming. Red Dead 2, God of War 4, and Spider-Man all in the same year. Untouchable
Far cry 5, detroit bacome human and many other games
2004 says hi.
mainly for playstation too, most of the games that were top-tier in 2018 were made by sony
2011 was a good year for gaming too. Gears of War 3, Arkham City, Skyrim, and Uncharted 3 :)
Yes,but the king of the year is gow : 2018
Kratos’s soundtrack can most definitely put a man into tears. Such heavenly choir
Christmas Day, 2023. This Stil gives me chills. I can't wait for the next game!!!
Everyone when they saw Atreus: *"Oh this already looks like a boring game”*
When Kratos reveals himself: *"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH"*

Update: just realized God of war 5 was announced! Can't wait for it to come out!
@Dionysian Beast yeah, but WE STILL HAVE TO GET A WHOLE NEW CONSOLE.
@@nathanlaughlin5380 I mean, I will only but the ps5 if GoW5 is announced on it. Worth the money cause they'll be 2 GoW games on the ps5 I believe.
I know it ain’t the same at all and I don’t know if that’s true or not but i heard something about that they’ll make a god of war comic book or something that fills the gap between 3 and 4 . Like what happened after killing zeus and how kratos traveled to midgard
@Dionysian Beast nah bro. they got everything only things are gameplay and level design. vory said that he already wrote the story of the second game while directing the first one. and the engine is set and ready to be used. it only needs to be upgraded to ps5
@Dionysian Beast not realy bro... I think 2022 will be out. Can t fuckin wait to see hiw will look the next game on ps5 4k 60 fps

Nah man, the one above you.
@@sabus1265 God Of War became GOTY 2018 for a reason, buddy.
Arguably the greatest game this Gen. Not the greatest ever.
It's funny because before this was shown, everyone saw GoW as a dead franchise. Kratos as a lost character. Most thought if they did continue the franchise the character would have to be replaced.
Then this happened. Then the Game of the Year happened. Man what a job Santa Monica did. Truly one of the most awe inspiring games I have EVER played.
Commendable. Even having played the game multiple times already. Can't help but smile wide at these reactions. Gotta love the dude in the back saying " none of that is real " lmao. You know you have created greatness when it is all so good people think it has to be fake
Aaron H
Never played Ascension but I believe that was when people lost hope in GOW. Quickly did Santa Monica pick up after their mistakes. Truly, a praiseworthy gaming studio full of passion and love for their games. The attention to detail, character development, visual graphics, soundtrack, lore, gameplay, and most of all, THE PAYOFFS 💯❤️🔥
you should try the previous games, they are as good or better in my opinion
Actually I had my mind made up after GoW 3 and even though it was really great I was sure not to play another God of War if the Gameplay/Fighting would be the same again. I've had enough of this iso perspectiv combo fight stuff.
Then that happen.
Man did I enjoy ripping Sigrun into pieces
They did replace the person that played Kratos but i don't mind it
@@AsianEyes007 People didnt hate the game but it was never considered a insane AAA game tier. It was always a fun hack and slash with a good story.(And after 3 nobody saw how they could do the same formula again) Nobody expected them to go 180 and make the most insane game ever in every aspect.
7 YEARS!!?? Damn, time files away.. Best E3 reveal in history IMO. GGs Sony with ragnarok too
I come back and watch this all the time to relive the hype! Currently, playing Ragnarok and loving every minute of it!
