when switching from 2H to 4H, do you need to be stopped? In Park or Neutral or can you just change it while moving in 2H? Also, how fast can you drive in 4H without damaging the system? Thanks
No I go from 2H to 4H all the time. Need to do it below 60mph though. I don't think there is a speed limit in 4H only a shift limit, it needs to be below 60 mph.
@@DannyDrives ok I figured it out when you in 4hi and want to go into 4lo then you push straight through into 4lo never stop in the neutral position it doesn’t like that , just push straight through the N and all the way to 4lo
You would have to gauge the condition to your driving, for example putting in 4WD Hi/Lo could cause you to understeer a lot more than you might like to control.
Just purchased a used 2022 4Runner Sr5 and the DAC will not engage? I put it in 4LO , press the DAC button (Foot off the Brake and Gas) the indicator light on the dash is flashing, but does not go solid? Also I do not know if the "A TRAC" is working? I press the button in 4LO (also tried 4Hi) and I do not see any indicator light on the dash telling me that it is engaged? I'm also noticing that when I switch from 4Lo to 2Hi, I have to drive the vehicle about 20 Ft before it will disengage, and I hear it clunk out of 4 Lo? Something must be wrong with it?
There is a lot to unpack here. Truly if all of these systems are not working in your 4Runner I would take it to the dealer and get a diag. I could potentially help diag one of them via the internet but your DAC, A TRAC, clunking, sounds like a bunch of problems my friend. Someone needs to get hands on to help
You’re not supposed to go directly from 4 Low to 2 High. If you’re in 4 Low, put it in neutral and go to 4 High. Then once you’re driving again, turn it to 2 High. Basically, need to be in neutral to shift into 4 Low, and also need to be in neutral to shift out of 4 Low. And only shift into it from 4 High, and only shift out of it into 4 High. Don’t skip directly from 2 High to 4 Low.

So it looks like you can shift into 4H from a dead stop, right? My husband was under the impression you had to be in motion in order to shift into 4H.
it might blink at you until you rock it forward sometimes

Is it normal if you hear grind noise when switching to 4lo?
You might hear/feel something that isn't smooth, part of the experience of such an old school 4x4 vehicle

Mine wanted to grind a lil in neutral so I put in park and it went right in 4lo , any ideas

Put the 4x4 selector in Neutral from 4Lo, then shift it back to H2.
