  • Hello and welcome to the second episode of TOP 50 games in under 10 minutes.
    We are in 1983 today - the year that gaming on ZX Spectrum really “took off”.
    Programmers improved their development skills so the quality jump from 1982 was apparent and we got treated to a few of really legendary ZX Spectrum games.
    Who doesn’t remember Matthew Smith, Ultimate, Durell and games like Manic Miner, Jetpac, Scuba Dive, Alchemist and Atic Atac?
    Games are, as always, presented in no particular order.

      One of the best feelings in the world. Some games are hidden deep inside your memory , and suddenly you see them on yt video and there is a ton of memories connected to games, people and places.

      If you really want a ZX Spectrum experience, try to get your hands on ZX Spectrum Next. It's a great machine. It's what the Spectrum update should have been back at the end of 80s / early 90s - compatible with all old titles and also got new capabilities that put in "on par" with Amiga and early VGA PCs.

      @@retrononame To be fair. I've been a gamer for almost 40 years and I've never played platform games once the 8 bit era was over. Manic Miner, Chuckie Egg, Gilligans Gold, Gumshoe, Bombjack, Bounty Bob Strikes Back and some Impossible mission 1 and 2. And I was done. I have platform games tagged to "ignore" in Steam account now.
      I completed those classics and never wanted to play another platform game again/ I'm not precisely sure what a "Metroidvania" is - but as it seems to involve jumping and platforms. I know I don't want to play it. :)

      @@PaulRoneClarke Me - after the 8bit era was over, I spent my "gaming time" mostly on RPGs (like Eye of the Beholder, Might and Magic, Wizardry ...). Planning to do a series about retro RPG games in the future as well.
      I do however, from time to time, play platformers - but mostly on playstation.

      @@PaulRoneClarke but why be done with platformers? you're missing out on like hundreds of fun ones just from the 8 bit era alone which is the best era for those :)

    • @PaulRoneClarke
      @PaulRoneClarke 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HiNRGboy I know I'm the odd one here. Platformers and "Story Rich" are my two ignore tags on Steam. I love a good book or a good long form TV show or movie but don't like stories in games much. Platformers are clearly popular and I can see some of them are brilliant for fans of the genre. The concept doesn't interest me any more. I remember getting Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands in an Amiga double pack and playing for about 20 minutes and thinking "Nope - done with this" Spelunky" was on the PSN for free a few years ago and I played that for about 30 minutes and thought the same. I tend to play turn based games and city builders now. Each to their own :)

    • @retrononame

      Chuckman was also released by Mastertronic so you are correct there. But the first release was from "Custom cables" - at least that's what I found out when researching the game.

    Pogo does not look like a speccy game to me. It's using hardware sprites, which the spectrum doesn't have.

      Loaded from tzx file into Fuse, it is 100% Spectrum game, just made cleverly (especially for 1983).
