I went to Mickey Finns in Florence SC in early May '24 and walked out without buying a single bottle. Yes, they had the allocated bottles. I was shocked/surprised by how high their prices were. Their selection and availability were great, service was also good. Barrel picks were good and available. But the smaller liquor stores in Florence are so much better. It's really that simple...
Whenever overhyped, highly allocated stuff is just sitting on the shelf, there will be museum pricing. I'm in southern California, where most of the independent stores are a lot like this - ridiculous prices on tater bottles, but good deals on other things. I leave the tater bottles on the shelf. Sometimes, these stores get great barrel picks. Knob Creek store picks are very good, and they won't break the bank. I found a rye recently at one of the local stores. I feel your pain on the budget man!! I went to an even at buffalo trace today. I got EH Taylor small batch, EH Taylor single barrel, and then on the way home i stopped at a little place becaue it was right off the main road and i figured why not. Well they had a jack daniels single barrel barrel prrof rye i have yet to get my hands on! I was expecting to go to the event and come home with one bottle because i couldnt make it until later in the day yet they still had their bottle of the day availible that was the EH taylor small batch and the single barrel was for the event!!! Oh well it was a great experience
@Bourbon_Hunter yeah I know I did! I didn't get there till like 3pm and they still had EH Taylor small batch. Then because I booked the event I got the single barrel. I couldn't belive I found the JDSBBP rye either. Everyone around me says they are not getting any until summer and I have not found one until now so I thought I was out of luck until the next drop
A lot of cool stuff for sure. But yes those prices made my blood boil to monk stroke level. But hey that Russel’s for sure solid still have some a holes around here wanting 120-150 for them. Good stuff none the less.
That micky finns place or whatever is ridiculously expensive. $270 for a weller full proof pick. I get them for $55-65. One place had them for $180 and i laughed at them. I know secondary is stupid high on weller, but for a store pick to be that high is just nuts. $90 for ecbp and their single barrels. I get them for 70-80. 1792 full proof pick 70. Theyre 40-45. Even knob creek picks for 70, i get those for 45. They have a huge selection, but way over priced on everything. I get marking up allocated stuff, but they mark up everything/regular shelfer stuff too. F that place
I'm disappointed Micky Finns is raising prices that much. Last week I was in GA and picked up 5 bottles of Eagle Rare at an average of 46 a bottle. 4 of my friends have been looking and 4 are very pleased with me. lol
@@Bourbon_Hunter Videos like this made it fun. I can't buy everything myself and would never want to hoard it all so I pick it up for friends out of state that can't find it. I love SC but GA has better ABC selections.
$70 for 1792 full proof!?! Thats ridiculous. I see them everywhere for $40-45. I havent seen blantons for 60 or eagle rare for 32 in a long time. Blantons every where around here is now $70. Eagle rare 40. Total wine went up to 80 for blantons and 50 for eagle rare. I won ORVW 10yr in total wines raffle, $160. Their prices are just getting ridiculous. Used to be cheap but now everything is more expensive than everywhere else. Thats what they do though, just like walmart, come to town w low prices then increase them after they knock out competition, or increase it slowly so ppl dont realize it and think they are still the cheapest because they stopped going other places.
I have a Mister Sam batch 1, basically it is a blend of George T Stagg and hyper aged cask strength Caribou Crossing. Seriously good but at MSRP and you were likely looking at batch 2 which is not as good as batch 1 imo. Remember, 95% of Canadian whisky you see is bottom shelf mixers or colored boxes of Crown Royal. Try some Found North or some Cat's Eye Hazmats or some Storytime Old Dragon Bones Rye.
@@johng5710 because this worked big time, at least batch 1. I have a couple GTS bottles, and only the 2012 stands up to mister Sam. The price here though is a joke.
I had the Whistle Pig 10 a few weeks ago and I didn't love it. It tastes like the smell of spoiled hay with a rather harsh finish. Curious if anyone else has anything to add on this?
I would agree with that. I think it's similar to an Islay scotch or even High West Campfire. It's not necessarily a flavor I dislike but I would have to have a hankering for it and wouldn't be a regular sipper. More so something to share with friends for something different!@@Bourbon_Hunter
I'm always humored when these guys running museum pricing say "it's a great value" when they are charging 5x MSRP on a pick they were allowed by Buffalo Trace. That Weller Full Proof is a great bottle... at $50-60. I wish BT would take away allocations and picks from every store that gouged on pricing. If they did that, I would finally respect the brand. Barrel King did that to some local Missouri stores that were gouging on their products. They simply said, nah, we won't sell to you anymore.
I thought prices were high here in east Tennessee, I think I'd quit drinking if I had to pay those prices. They charge those prices because people pay them. If everyone would quit hoarding it up, prices would drop, just like ammo.
Great Picks! Those Weller Prices are up there for sure, but they seem to have some pretty decent prices on the everyday bottles. I have yet to pickup any Russel’s, I’ve had a few in my hands, just always seem to trade it for something else. CHEERS @BourbonHunter
Did you call them before you went in? I just stopped by and they had ZERO Weller or Mister Sam on the shelf. They told me the Weller full proof was not for sale to the public except for certain times of the year. I feel like they either lied to me or they set up the store for the video. At a minimum, that Weller 12 and Mister Sam should still be there.
I'm an American myself but always funny to see something like an American bourbon only drinker see something like Mr Sam out in public and go "lol Canadian whiskey". Overpriced though just due to rarity.
If people stop buying from the secondary market this will correct itself. It’s like concert tickets. I refuse to pay that! There are plenty of good/great bourbons under $60!
Only when a significant percentage of bourbon buyers stop paying more than retail will prices come down. I have decided to limit my purchases to $50 per 750ml bottle.
Hey man I’m coming to murrels inlet sc this weekend what’s some good shops to stop at?? Looking to get some bottles, also I started making whiskey lamps as a hobby let me know a bottle you would like to be a lamp and I can get it to you! On me love your videos bro!
Insider tip. Buy a case of cheap bourbon. Store it on a buddies docked boat for 3-4months. It will turn a $15 bottle into a $300 bottle via rapid aging. Your welcome
Bought a bunch of these ultra high end whiskey BOTTLES, filled them with bottom shelf SWILL. My friends don't know the difference and I'm the MAN...👍🤫😉
I’ll pay a 100% markup on a special bottle. I think it’s fair if a bottle is $45 MSRP (Weller 107) to pay $90ish for it. If a store wants to double what it paid, so be it. But I would never pay these 300-500% markups. I saw Weller SR for over $120 once and would never pay that!!! I think if we all had that mindset then prices might go down. 🤷🏻♂️

You have a naturally disarming personality which leads to great conversations with the employees, other customers, and owners that is both entertaining to watch and hella beneficial in your chosen profession. Gonna be fun watching you grow, fam. 🐱💙🙏🏻👊🏻🌚
Thank you. Were going to the moon 🚀
You got lucky!!!! Nice! Keep up
The good work!
That's just two bottles you don't have to worry about buying later lol
@johng5710 very very true!!!
it's wild that people see JDSBBP Rye as some rare bottle in the wild. It's on every shelf here in NC
Go Gamecocks! Would've had to unsubscribe if you were wearing orange
Whooooop!!! 🐔
Go Big Orange!!
Go Vols! 🍊
A lot of cool stuff for sure. But yes those prices made my blood boil to monk stroke level. But hey that Russel’s for sure solid still have some a holes around here wanting 120-150 for them. Good stuff none the less.
Heck yeah!
70 for ER and 270 for WFP SP. Ouch. I guess we're spoiled in Ma. The WFP SP seem to drop every few months for 70-80
🥃
Picked up a 14 yr 1792 Full Proof for $54. Haven't gotten into it yet.
Open it tonight!
F that place
those prices are just wild lol
i dont even know what to say, just giggling out loud
Anyone got an MSRP list of all these things or a reddit post that shows the range that is normal vs absurd prices?
When you’re young, time goes by fast. When you get older, just buy it. You can’t replace time with money
Very interesting perspective!
Will be watching this but from the title you sounds just like me last night. Amen brother end to secondary pricing and down with them all
Drizo nation!
If you couldn’t tell. All their picks have good burn. And good on the back end 😂
Bro 😂😂
I’d never heard of that Mister Sam bottle until now, they’ve got it marked up 10x which is hilarious
Ive never heard of it myself
@@Bourbon_Hunter Pretty crazy that you're so into bourbon but have never heard of Mister Sam
Some of that is so much cheaper than AZ but I’m getting Buffalo Trace for $23 at every grocery store
You picked some great bottles. All of which I would have picked myself so don’t feel guilty at all!!👍🏼
Yes! Thank you!
Those are crazy prices. EC BP should be around 59.
I'm disappointed Micky Finns is raising prices that much. Last week I was in GA and picked up 5 bottles of Eagle Rare at an average of 46 a bottle. 4 of my friends have been looking and 4 are very pleased with me. lol
You’re a good friend!
Great video….i need to visit that store
Thank you for watching!
Found North is amazing!
Why they would blend George T Stagg with anything is beyond me
@@johng5710 because this worked big time, at least batch 1. I have a couple GTS bottles, and only the 2012 stands up to mister Sam. The price here though is a joke.
Agreed, batch 3 is phenomenal. Drew Mayville is cherry picking the barrels for the blend. Supposedly there is some cask strength ER17 in the blend too
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
The prices at this store are really bad, museum prices.
I had the Whistle Pig 10 a few weeks ago and I didn't love it. It tastes like the smell of spoiled hay with a rather harsh finish. Curious if anyone else has anything to add on this?
I like it from time to time! Its certainly a vibe you have to be in to have it
I would agree with that.
Its tough out here 😂
I thought prices were high here in east Tennessee, I think I'd quit drinking if I had to pay those prices.
You got that right! Thank you for watching!
I think your buddy is referring to the William heaven hill 17yr. 👍👍👍
Nope. I did not call ahead. They must have pulled it off the shelves after the video dropped
Agree, not going to pay "eat- a-di*% prices for allocated bourbons. There are plenty of great bourbons to be had at or below MSRP.
Those blue label Old Foresters (single barrel barrel proofs) are the sh*t...I would have picked one of those up if the price was reasonable.
If they were still around! 👏🏼 I would have!
@@Bourbon_Hunter Oh that one on the shelf wasn't for sale?
That was a “past pick” grave yard
I'm an American myself but always funny to see something like an American bourbon only drinker see something like Mr Sam out in public and go "lol Canadian whiskey".
Overpriced though just due to rarity.
If people stop buying from the secondary market this will correct itself. It’s like concert tickets. I refuse to pay that! There are plenty of good/great bourbons under $60!
Budgets are meant to be broken 🤣. Thanks for the video!
You bet! Thank you for watching!
I got you fam! I’ll go bourbon hunting with ya! Swing on by Aiken lol
Its on the list!
Bro that sounds awesome!!! Murrels inlet is full of museums and I havent done videos up there quite yet. A cool bottle would be 1.75 of Larceny!
DM me on Discord for details if you’d like
I can say I’ve seen the Welles go for way more then that still high though
Insider tip. Buy a case of cheap bourbon. Store it on a buddies docked boat for 3-4months. It will turn a $15 bottle into a $300 bottle via rapid aging. Your welcome
Not remotely close to how aging whiskey works but ok....
Some amazing variety there, but yeah the prices are getting was out of hand!
Ridiculous!
😊 I've been buying up Henry Mckenna 10 Year 😊 and its amazing i saw it in the Vod today 🎉🎉🎉
It's so good! Thank you for watching!
Excellent video. That guy basically contradicted everything you'd say lol
Thank you for watching
That WFP at 270 is still 400 cheaper that Southern Spirits
Bought a bunch of these ultra high end whiskey BOTTLES, filled them with bottom shelf SWILL. My friends don't know the difference and I'm the MAN...👍🤫😉
Dang!
Thats not a bad mindset I may start to apply that to some of my thinking!
