Thanks bro , finally a video with a sport bike on a bike hitch that's not 100 years old fantastic
Appreciate you posting this, will probably end up picking this carrier up
You bet. The carrier is great.
Bang on video, shows the bike being carried job well done
Definitely going to put one on a Mercedes van conversion.
I picked up the same hitch carrier to transport my 2016 r1.
Nihad Keso what’s the rating on it? I have a 2017 r6, looking at these receiver mounted carriers for easy of unloading/loading but really want to make sure I don’t get something to weak. I see them only advertised with dirt bikes
Ever get pulled over because of obstructed plate?
No. I have hauled over 10k miles like this through many states. No issues.
@@shooktube. Great thanks. I guess I'm getting one lol
Nice video man.
Question: what kind of light system did you use in the carrier? Do you have a link to where you bought it?
Sorry! Just noticed I didn't reply with the link www.discountramps.com/cargo-carrier-light-kit/p/DR16MAG-4F/
It is also posted in another reply below. I added a couple of zip ties, though the magnets are probably more than strong enough to hold it in place. I really like it!
Any issues with it on the highway? (Long term wise)
No issues. Great purchase.
@@shooktube. thank you!
Braking and accelerating would by my main concern. I'm a little weary. I'm going to be going from Wisconsin to Idaho and back.
My bike sat sturdily. It's in a chalk with tie downs. I went from Pennsylvania to Texas and back. No issues.
I have a 2017 BMW R1200GS ADVENTURE motorcycle... It weighs 580lbs loaded/fueled etc. Do you think it could haul a heavy bike like that size? I know the hitch is "rated to 600lbs) but I am just wondering if a BIG BIKE like the BMW GSA's could be carried with this. I dont see too many videos showing this setup.
Good question. Short answer, I don't know. My Duc's wet weight is about 425lbs. Here's a video of a guy who travels around the country with his Harley (similar weight to your bike). He's made some mods. Also, you'll need to add the weight of the carrier when deciding. th-cam.com/video/RZvPQ_eUm_M/w-d-xo.html
Check out discount ramps to view different types of carriers if you haven't already done so.
Congrats on your bike btw. Nice!
good review...were you able to load and unload bike on carrier single handed?
Don Oz hello! No, me and another person loaded and unloaded the bike. One person may be able to do it, but I think the manufacturer also recommends two people.
Should of just put it in the flat bed. But I would use that with a Tahoe or something similar though
That was the original plan, but the truck bed is too short. Would have had to of left the tailgate open. Works out well anyway since we travel with luggage in the covered bed.
Hi.. thanks for the vid. How does it handle the dips while at speed, say 60 to 70 miles an hour on freeway ?
Lohith Rangappa handles them fine. It has 4 large screws to stabilize the carrier. They rest against the tongue.
ShookTube Thank you much
just bought mine on ebay from discount ramps.. but looks like i need to install lights.. what kind of lights did you install? i can see them right there in the center
www.discountramps.com/cargo-carrier-light-kit/p/DR16MAG-4F/
LED turn stop and run light with very strong magnets. I also used zip ties to secure though I probably didn't need them.
+Eliseo E Barahona the link may not be clickable. Just go to Discountramps.com and search LED cargo carrier light.
Nice lights thank you!!
What was your rear tie down point? Over the swingarm/tire?
Rear passenger pegs.
Where can I pick up that same tow hitch brake light?

ShookTube your the man! 👍 Thanks
any reason you chose the aluminum track over the steel?
The aluminum weighs less.
Thats what I thought, but the website says they both weight 98lbs?
Not sure why. Aluminum is lighter than steel. Strange.
Not when the aluminum is a lot thicker than the steel. Steel is probably 11-14 gauge .120-.083in Aluminum track is 3/16 -1/4in
Does that RAM 1500 have the factory class IV hitch?
+Bud C yes.
Be careful...you are maxing out the tongue weight limit and many owners have had problems with the factory weld breaking
Thanks for the heads up. It has the tow package. I think the hitch on this truck will do a max of 1,000 lbs. tongue weight. The Panigale is about 425 wet and the carrier is 100 lbs. Should be okay on this particular truck. Regardless good looking out.
NP man. Yea I have a 2014 Ram 1500 too and took me forever to find legit numbers. I have the factory tow package and Class IV hitch as well but the tongue weight limit is 500lb or 1000 if its weight distributed which a motorcycle carrier is not. At 525lbs you're 25 over max so keep an eye on it for sure. Bike looks good btw.
Bud C The figures are tough to find for sure. Thanks again.
Do you still like this carrier? Looking to get one for track days at Pittsburgh International. I recently picked up an 899. Trying to gather all the gear needed for next season.
Yes. It works great.
