I am 24 years old, heard about mewing in May this year, I started mewing, I have an assymetrical facial structure, breath through my mouth, slept with my mouth open and even unconsciously found my mouth open during the afternoon, also assymetrical dental fomula and a receding chin.
First 3 days into mewing where the hardest It hurt, my jaw and neck hurt, I had breathing issues since I used to breath through my mouth and kept waking up at night to correct my tongue posture. It was hard!
Next days after it got easier, I was determined to mew day and night so I did just that.
4 months into mewing, I started seeing a noticeable change my face started becoming symmetrical, my teeth got better, my mouth was always closed during the day( still struggling at night but it got so much better) , the receding chin had not changed but I started seeing a jaw line forming.
5 months into mewing: my friends started asking what I have been doing to my face because I am getting prettier, my mouth is always shut even at night, mewing is effortless now, I nose-breath even while exercising, the facial assymetry is almost negligible now! I love the results. It's gonna be a life-long practice I will update whenever I remember.
Age does factor into mewing but If you are older it just means it'll take more time for you to see results not that it won't happen at all. I am getting my entire family into mewing especially my younger siblings, they'll thank me later.

I'm 28 and have been a mouthbreather for most of my life. I consider my jawline okay but not as masculine as humanly possible. Didn't even realize what I was doing wrong until I was in my 20s when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Just discovered mewing and other channels on TH-cam talking about tongue posture, nose breathing, chewing hard gum, etc.
For those of us who are older than 25, use me as a guinea pig. Reply to my comment in 6 months, or a year, or several years, and ask me if my jawline has improved. Wish me luck!
FIRST UPDATE: 2023-03-22 After chewing lots of gum, for 2-4 hours a day 5 days a week, I started having TMJ issues with my right jaw. Makes it a little painful chewing. Have to chew on the left side mostly. Also having right ear pain. Probably going to have to see the doctor if it doesn't clear up soon.
SECOND UPDATE: 2023-05-04 I haven't had jaw pain for at least a week. The TMJ issue was most severe for the first week or two, became mild in the third week, and was barely noticeable. Never went to the doctor about it. Cleared up on its' own. Did not mew much during this time, but briefly I did on occasion.
THIRD UPDATE: 2023-06-21 Started mewing again, on occasion. Not constant due to the issues I had last time. Stopped chewing gum completely. Seems like my enormous dinners that take 30+ minutes to chew are enough for my masseter muscles already. Minimal noticeable jawline improvement thus far from mewing, however losing 50 lbs these last 5 months has made my facial structure much more angular and less "round". Will continue to update when ppl remind me!
    FOURTH UPDATE: 2023-07-18
Having lost a lost of weight recently, about 55 lbs, I cannot tell for certain what has contributed to any possible changes with my jawline more, the weight loss or the mewing. Any changes are subtle. Nothing significant thus far.
    FIFTH UPDATE: 2023-11-15
Down 65 lbs, my face is much less round. Got an X-ray and MRI of my skull done, turns out I have craniofacial deficiency as the right side of my face is 2mm shorter and narrower than the left side of my face. Doctors are determining what surgery to perform to fix it. Should cure my sleep apnea and make me more attractive. Orthognathic surgery, double osteotomy, not sure what comes next. Will update if the surgery doesn't kill me.

So, I find it very interesting "Mewing" was discovered by orthodontists. I had braces for 6 years; from the beginning of 6th grade to the end of 12th grade. Most of my friends only had them between a few months to 2 years tops. I didn't know why I was kept on them, other than the consistent thought my orthodontist was breadcrumbing and scamming my parents (which could still be the truth).
After a few months of braces my teeth were perfectly straight with braces on. This is coming from me having Buckteeth in the front since 2nd grade. It wasn't until I was about to graduate high school that my mom was trying to get the orthodontist to simply take my braces off because of how much it cost my parents by then - One day during my senior year, his assistant just said, "You only have an underbite; we've been trying to get rid of that for 4 years". I (uninformed high school kid) didn't exactly know what that all meant and it wasn't until his assistant demonstrated with a skull that my jaw was pushed back too far and that unless I had my jaw further, I couldn't get my braces off (again, sounds like a deliberate scam).
It wasn't until she showed me physically what needed to be done that I was like "Okay, so basically I just need my chin to be further ahead and you'll take my braces off?" So throughout the day every day, I would just do this thing where I put my bottom teeth in front of my top teeth for a few seconds. I guess this was technically "Mewing". Well, guess what? A month later I went back and the assistant was in awe at how much improvement happened with my jawline. Another month later, my braces were off and they were astounded that so much improvement happened in 2 months.
I spell bullshit for what they did; I consistently faced gatekeeping from people trying to extract money from me or my family throughout my life - and I still do, but I'm just glad it's all fucking over. I hated my orthodontist from the day I met him; all he ever did was boast about his convertible, and 6 fucking years is absolutely a scam on my parents; especially when it was something the orthodontist could've described directly to me in order to avoid such a lengthy and expensive process.
And of course, they threw in the "HE NEEDS A RETAINER" crap at my mom, so she paid for a retainer and gave the orthodontist the middle finger directly to his face as we walked out of there - $10,000 for a horrible experience and what feels like an indirect life lesson about how everyone you seek help from has it out to hurt you. If I ever need orthodontic assistant ever again, I'm going for Invisaligns. If I have kids and they need it, they're getting Invisaligns and I'll teach them every lesson I had to learn the hard way.

@@eternalgeminiro I thought I was the only one. My allergies and asthma got a little better as I grew up, but they come back when triggered. My little brother doesn’t have allergies and has a chiseled jawline so I know genetically it was possible for me to get the same. However, all that time of me having to mouth breathe because I literally couldn’t breathe from my nose inhibited my jawline from reaching its genetic potential. What makes matters worse is during my childhood & teenage summer breaks I had to help my father work in his lawn maintenance business so I was constantly exposed to things that caused my allergies lol. That plus the physical labor gave me no choice but the mouth breathe so I wouldn’t pass out in the hot weather.
My jaw isn’t recessed which I am thankful for but it isn’t chad-like. I’m not sure mewing will help me anymore since I am over 21 now but at least I plan to get rhino-septoplasty within the next few years to fix my deviated septum and the appearance of my crooked nose.

I’m a life-long mewer, I guess. Ever since I can remember it was just the position my tongue was in. Felt natural. (Every time I comment on stuff like this, people think I’m lying or bragging LMAO, but it’s true) as a lifelong “mewer” I’m not planning on giving up my “mewing” habit. I like what it did for my jawline but there are some things to be aware of. Fist and foremost, DONT keep your tongue pressed on your front teeth.
I genuinely didn’t know that other people didn’t keep their tongue on the roof of their mouth. It was just something that always like a neutral mouth position to me. Ever since early childhood my tongue, from back to front is always “swallowed” against the roof of my mouth. In my experience it doesn’t take conscious muscle tension. Just swallow until your tongue is on the roof of your mouth, and keep your mouth closed I guess? It’s not necessarily an exercise. It’s just a posture.
I find my mouth is often dry because I naturally swallow more, and I have less room in my mouth for spit. But whenever I try not “mewing” my mouth just feels wetter and gross because I’m not used to it.. so I “mew.” Practice good oral hygiene. Dryness can be bad for your teeth.
It also sometimes makes me breathe louder. It just doesn’t feel natural to me to rest my tongue on the bottom of my mouth. When I mouth breathe (not something that can always be avoided, such as when you’re physically exerted or your nose is stuffed up) my tongue just won’t get out of the way. The back of my tongue is still flexed, but just enough to let air through. People say to me “can you breathe quieter please??” 😡 Then I try breathing through my nose some more, and the struggle is even louder. My entire life, I’ve always been the “slow eater.” and everyone would wonder “what the hell is taking you so long?!” I never had any idea. Until I realized my “problem” was that I was the one who swallowed their food correctly. So be prepared to either annoy your friends or take leftovers home. Dont develop a habit of keeping your tongue between your upper and lower teeth where it can be bitten. You can hurt yourself.
Also since I have to “swallow my my tongue” against the roof of my mouth, I do swallow more often than most people. I developed a nervous habit of swallowing too loudly (if you don’t have anxiety you don’t have to worry about it.) I’ve had people look at me and say “what the hell is that noise?” 🙄
When I first found out about “mewing,” and there aren’t other people who naturally keep their tongue on the roof of their mouth I was kind of shocked. 😆 I’m kind of glad I have the habit because I like what it does for my jawline. More often than not, when I tell people I’m 32 they look surprised and they’ll say “I thought you were MUCH younger.” Probably because I have a tight jawline. If mewing is for you, give it a try. After a while it’ll start to feel natural I guess?
Not trying to talk anyone out of it. I’m just saying that once it’s a habit it feels more natural that resting your tongue on the bottom of your mouth. It can make a difference for your jawline. But there are positives and negatives. Don’t get discouraged though. I know that’s a lot. I’m still trying to figure out how “mewing” has affected my life, and how it can affect yours. I’m not giving up the habit LMAO.

Exactly. Posture and how you hold your jaw matters the most. I didn’t even know how my jawline looked until I went to a dentist and she told me how I’m naturally supposed to relax my jaw. All my life I either breathed in from my mouth or I clenched my teeth. My dentist told me to inhale from my nose, keep my jaw relaxed in the front, and maintain gap between my lower and upper teeth. Immediately I looked so much sharper when I was obese. Now I’ve lost 30 pounds and my jawline looks impressive. But even then when I occasionally maintain a wrong posture, I suddenly develop a double chin despite having minimal fat there

Orthotropics has been largely disproven. We learn about this in dental school. You can modify growth but once you are done growing little change will happen to skeletal structure. Almost all modification potential is also in the maxilla, the mandible you cant really change. A better approach is using dental appliances before/during puberty.

Unfortunately its not possible when you dont have a decent one. There are 4 or 5 factors thats gonna fck up you jawline. 1.Genetic fat underneath your jaw. 2. Genetic excess skin on the jaw. 3.small jaw. 4.weird jaw posture. 5. Big neck. Well if you have one or two of these problems you can adjust it still. But i fuckn myself have all of them.

damn, I used to have a receded chin, and I thought I was really ugly because of it. Somehow I subconsciously just started doing all of the things mentioned in this video when I was younger. I got my adenoids removed at 14, and started breathing through my nose. I loved chewing gum (and still do occasionally), I swallow properly, and I wasn't even thinking about it until it was mentioned in the video but my tongue is always pressed to the roof of my mouth. Nowadays I get complements on my sharp jawline all the time.

  • @fuzzypanda1684
    @fuzzypanda1684 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Not sure how much proper chewing or posture is going to help your jawline, although you should do both for other reasons and benefits, but chewing gum, tongue placement, pushing your tongue against the front of the roof of your mouth and all that will absolutely affect the shape of your jaw.
Like Brett, I had a weak jawline in my youth, but after developing the habit of pressing my tongue against the roof of my mouth, I obtained a much better jawline as well as the "hallow cheek" look. Of course, in that time I also got into great shape so I'm sure that helped as well.
Other things that will improve your appearance is proper posture as Brett said, which will not only make your shoulders and chest look better, but will also make you appear taller. Developing the habit of keeping your abs flexed at about 25% strength at all times is vitally important as well. If you have good abs, this will be easy to hold for hours and will not only help you keep a good posture, but will prevent you from letting your stomach stick out and give you a much better overall shape. Not to mention at the beach your abs will look great.
For those that don't know, even if you have 6 pack abs, if you completely relax them and have bad posture, your stomach will stick out like anyone's will and your abs disappear. No one has ripped abs when they're completely relaxed. Every pic of a guy with shredded abs is flexing hard enough to have a hernia. But even so, it's not just about getting abs, it's also about knowing how to properly display them. A 25% flex that's second nature will ensure your abs look great at all times.
Oh, and Brett, don't ever let me hear you complain about your appearance ever again. You are a crazy attractive guy and you know it lol.

Genetics, habits from where you were a kid, present habits and fat are the main subjects to improve. I am no medic nor professional on the subject but, after gathering info from many videos and my own experience, those are the main pillars of having a great jawline. Genetics are what you have and cannot be altered, so embrace it, then come the things you can change which are:
    1. Present habits, what the gentleman is saying. Just try to do the meeting correctly, do not force it, it should be natural and maintainable throughout the day. So, the tongue posture aka "mewing", head, neck, chest and shoulder posture must be correct.
    2. Fat: Just as it happens with abs, the less fat you have, the more your jawline is going to show. Maintain a healthy amount of fat and that should do the work, do not go crazy over it, unless you are aiming for it.
    Additional tip
Chewing gum and other gadgets: Personally, I don't think chewing a sugary or artificial sugar would do any good to the body if taken constantly everyday. It will eventually take its toll on you, just like everything in excess. Maybe try to eat healthier overall, eat meat, carrots, nuts, etc.
Do not over complicate things guys. Cheers.
