It's one of my favourite films... the way the characters slowly grow in confidence, and,the their long held belief in personal stories ridiculed by others only to be confirmed by the detective work of the teacher gives them back their self-esteem.But without a doubt the Benitez scene in the rain quoting from Henry 5th always brings a lump in my throat. Finally the drill Sargent understood the power of the king's speech " he who sheds his blood with me today is my brother" brilliant film and totally under appreciated
I remember being in high school and my teacher was giving us a test on this movie. I slepted and she's like how ypu gonna pass and not see the movie. Little did she know I owned the movie 😂
I love this film. It is an unselfconscious, modest film--it doesn't try to be too artsy or great or revelatory--filled with integrity and love from the writers, crew, and performers who deal with everyday characters and situations with respect and hope.
For those of you complaining about the title, this movie was actually released under multiple names during its poorly-received theatrical run. These included "Renaissance Man" (USA), "Army Intelligence" (Australia), and "By The Book".
That is a common theme, in fact. Movies that bomb are often given a different title in another market. It rarely helps. (And I'm speaking in general, I'm not commenting on the quality of the film itself.)
2:10 "Oxymoron." "Ayo, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up. You can't do that. That is a dis. I ain't no "ox moron", alright?" "No, no, no, no. Not "ox moron", you schmuck. Oxymoron."
Loved her in Laverne & Shirley as I watched it when it came on Tuesday nights. I still remember the Happy Days episode that featured her and Cindy Williams. I have that series and most over her movies that she directed included this one.👍🏾
One time I told my students “Why get dressed up and go to the prom?” Because sometimes it’s nice to get dressed up and enjoy the finer things in life. That’s kinda like poetry.
Much like Jackie chan's philosophy in the karate kid kung fu lives in how you put on the jacket how you take off the jacket everything is kung fu much like how life is peotry
Such an underrated movie. A great film.
You bet!!!!

I love the example of "Military Intelligence" for an Oxymoron, hahahahaahaha:-)

My favorite oxymoron is "original copy."
If I am not mistaken Military Intelligence is the Australian name for this movie
Love this movie. I've watched it more than 10 times. Danny D is a great actor.
Cannot think of a more under-rated movie. One or two chessy scenes but overall excellent movie.

Loved the explanation of the difference between a simile and a metaphor!! learned somethig!!

Richard T. Jones is one of my favorite character actors. This was one of his earlier roles.
love this movie, very underrated.
Military intelligence: if something is being done quickly and correctly it's probably NOT being done by the us military. haha
No, it’s not being done by the army, they sent in the Marines.

Stranger still. It was directed by Penny Marshall.
She directed Big and Awakenings, too, so I wouldn't say it's a surprise.
@@vancefry7485 My surprise was that she was such a good director.
