  • Watch me, sharing my initial impressions of the Digitech „The Drop“ pedal with you.
    How does it sound, track and feel with bass guitar? Is it the easy solution for the working musicians and metal heads, who have to play in different tunings? ;-)
    Let’s find out!

    I use this in my cover band. One guitarist and I, have the Drop, the other guitarist has a Whammy DT. We go back and forth between standard and 1/2 step down. I tried making the setlists tuner friendly, before we used the Drops, but our singers eventually wanted to create the setlists how they wanted...ignoring any tuning changes. Yes, as the player, the latency is noticeable, as a crowd person listening, there's no noticeable difference. It's a tremendous help. We play 1 or 2 songs that we'll drop a full step. The pedal still handles that well enough. I don't think I'd use for anything lower than that, other than having fun.
    It does help to have tight string tension, so possibly using heavier strings can help. I do recommend the pedal for situations like mine. If you're looking for a more permanent detuned situation, set up another instrument. I have not tried any other drop type pedals, but if a better one comes along, I'm open to giving it a try.

    I appreciate it. I have a 5 string where I tuned the B string down to A so that when I get this pedal I can finally play drop G. Or take my four to drop B

      Did you end up getting the pedal? If so does the low G track well? I would be using it for the same thing but have heard some people say it can't track those low notes really well.

    Hello ! I'm from Brazil and I have a question. My pedal after a year began to roll over when it was depressed, missing the clear notes on the bass. Do you know if it has any kind of calibration that can be done or any solution to my problem?

  • @kikodasneves1
    @kikodasneves1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I dont think this pedal tracks at all... everyone mentions tracking... tracking is when the pedal figures out what note you are playing... what this does is pitchshifting: mathematical transposing that doesn’t require tracking, thus performs the same on high or low strings. Great review!

    This pedal looks amazing! Im in a covers band, and we never play the original keys... so i have to learn the song normally then transpose it. Ive got to give this pedal a go now... looks like it could solve a lot of hassle?

    Hello Michael, with this corona thing, I have the time for practice on my bass. I buyed the Drop Pedal and I really noticed this latency trouble, I have my bass tune on D and when I dropped hlaf or whole step the delay and latency it's anoying. I think for practice in home itks ok. Theres is a way to resolve the latency trouble, another pedal perhaps? (PD: sorry for my english)

    Have you tried EHX Pitchfork or Slammi? Those are very good pitchshifters.

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not yet! I have never thought about pitchshifting instead of tuning the bass down, until a colleague told me about the very good "The Drop". As of yet, I´m not sure if I´ll dig in more into this subject by trying out different options (pedals). If so, I´ll do similar review videos for sure! Thx a lot for watching and commenting! All the best! :-)

    • @wasimoto_7540
      @wasimoto_7540 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@liamjenkins82 I am still using the EHX Slammi for an one octave up without the dry signal of my Pbass. Sometimes one octave down, which creates a very fat low sound. It tracks very well. I try other pedals at guitar stores sometimes, but even much more expensive ones cannot satisfy me. I believe the Pitchfork has the same module. It also highly depends on what sound you are going for. Octave down, octave up, etc .. they all need different settings, combination with pedals and/or a certain touch when you play.. it's all trial and error. I also suggest checking out Reed Mathis and Janek Gwizdala. They produce amazing and very unusual sounds with their pedals.

      @@wasimoto_7540 basically I'm struggling with the speed on a 5 string and was thinking if I could get away with it on a 4 without and physical changes, filing out the nut and the like

      Using this pedal saves you time on stage before playing the next song. Especially in low tuned bass guitars. Also constantly retuning especially in bad weather can be harmful
