    Your reviews are world class. Perfect composition, content and delivery. But...I watch your videos just to listen to you play. What an incredibly marvelous musician you are. I imagine that you could make a bucket and broom handle strung with barbed wire sound extraordinary. Bravo man.

    Very tasty playing - and the bass sounds great! I have a '73 Jazz as well and have been considering swapping the current pickups for a pair of 4J-HC. Your video is convincing me to take the plunge :)

    It's either that you really got a good grip of your instrument or simply that these Agular AG pick-ups are simply so great because your JB sounds wonderful, well as they generally have always done.

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven

      Hi there. The bass sounded beautiful with the original PUs. And it still sounds extremely nice with the Aguilars. They offer a bit asditional low and top end, plus they are him cancelling, which is nice too. So overall, I'm really pleased with these PUs.
      Thx a lot for watching and commenting! 😀👍🏻

    I listened to this video about 10 times through pretty good earbuds, and I was impressed by the Aguilar HC pickups. I just listened through my Car stereo (5.1) and I am absolutely amazed! Makes me totally want to get these pickup, or at least compare them to the Duncan Apollo’s I currently have…

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Interesting! I've never played a Bass with these SD pickups, but I can tell you that I really love these Aguilars in my old trusty J! Stay safe and healthy!

    • @Wido08GP
      @Wido08GP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm really interested in the comparison as I'm currently trying to decide between these and Apollos. Do you have any opinions?

    • @dupajas4671
      @dupajas4671 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wido08GP I had 250k pots in with the Apollo’s, but I am in the middle of changing to 500k volume pots (keeping the 250k tone pot) to see how much more brightness or clarity they give. Don’t get me wrong, the Apollo’s are not dull by any means, just not exactly as “crisp” sounding as true single coils. The 500k’s might do the trick…
      There is a video by Oliver Tobin who compared the Apollo’s to Geddy Lee SC’s using 250k pots with each:
      th-cam.com/video/-k7s3zMZCIo/w-d-xo.html
      If you listen closely, you can hear a very slight difference in the very top end.
      and then this video of the Apollo’s with 500k pots:
      th-cam.com/video/sXXSEjWPXzc/w-d-xo.html
      I’m curious whether the Aguilar’s have a similar attribute …

    • @dupajas4671
      @dupajas4671 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I finished installing the 500k volume pots, and they did bring in that tad bit of extra clarity lost due to the nature of the Apollo’s. So I would indeed recommend using 500k pots with them, but not 100% necessary.
      They are however higher-output than standard single coil pickups. @Michael Schmitt did say that the Aguilar’s are lower output than his old single coils, so there is that difference in particular. Aguilar doesn’t specify the AGHC pickups’ DC resistance, but my 5-string Apollo’s are about 12.5k ohms.

      Thx a lot for watching and commenting, Rinon. Yeah, the just sound very Jazz Bass, without the additional hum. But please watch the video once more, using HQ speakers or headphones. Especially considering the fact, that I've used no bass pre here, and no EQ, these pickups have super low and tight low end, and beautiful highs.
      All the best, stay safe and healthy.

    ahhh.. i was waiting for this. How do you feel about the high end of the PUs? Sometimes they feel a bit too much, for my personal taste...
    Thank you and best regards!

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there! Glad, you´ve enjoyed it. Well, I´ve recorded them without any EQ or bass preamp. And the tone control was at around 80-90% openend, for all examples. Played into an amp (preamp), and with some compression added, it sounds extremly smooth. It´s not a bad thing, to have plenty of something. It´s way easier to tone something down, than to add something that originally wasn´t there. So, for me, the presence of deep bass and much high frequency response is a good thing. These pickups are definitly very dynamic. I´ll post a video of this bass, played through my EBS setup anytime soon, so stay tuned. Thx a lot for watching and commenting!

  • @alexanzalonebass

    Hi and congratulations for everything… listening in headphones, am I wrong or are these pickups slightly hollowed out in the mid frequencies?thanks

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. In the midrange, they aren't different to the original ones, at least to my ears. They just add things, like bottom and top end. It's worth noting, that I haven't used any bass preamp or EQ here. All the best. Stay safe and healthy.

    • @alexanzalonebass
      @alexanzalonebass 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelSchmittEleven excellent, in fact it could be a sensation precisely because they are more colorful on the low and high end ... thanks again, the sound is very nice anyway

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're totally right! 😀 They are lower output, but so dynamic. I'll post a video of this bass with my usual setup (EBS MicroBass II, MultiComp) anytime soon. It sounds even better with a good preamp and some compression on it.

    • @alexanzalonebass
      @alexanzalonebass 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelSchmittEleven Yes, in fact, with a good preamp they will sound great, but it is right to test the pickups in passive mode without adding anything (for me) ... then everything else comes later ... but the heart of the sound are the pickups

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true, Alex. And exactly what I wanted to show here. It's good that they are so bright and deep, because toning this down with a pre will happen automatically, add some compression, and you'll have a very rounded tone. But the start is the pickup, and these ones are extra dynamic and vivid for sure. I really like them. 😉👍🏻

    Amazing. Feature a hum cancelling jazz pickup with drums in the background so the listener can focus in on how quiet the pickups aren't, genius. I'm convinced, and also very convincing is this 1973 jazz bass, from 2017. are we done here?

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thx for watching and commenting! To me, featuring a bit of nothing (no hum, due to the hum cancellation) isn't that interesting. Personally, as a bass player, I do care about how the bass sits in the mix, as I don't play it too often as a solo instrument. You might have a different approach, fair enough! 😀 And sorry that I can't follow, but this bass guitar is from 1973, serial number, pots, stamp on neck and pocket all match. Stay safe and take care!
