You just answered my question, I will only go from standard to half step and whole step down and I have a guitar with a floyd so I can now play some pantera without having a headache while tuning down the floyd
Steve, you're (in my opinion) the best guitar teacher out here on TH-cam. Your videos really helped me, and they still do. I just wanted to say thank you for doing all of this!
This guy is not only very talented. I think his greatest gift is teaching. He just make things easier. I have looked at all the ones on TH-cam trying to find someone. He is the best in my opinion. Thanks Steve your a blessing for us trying to learn the guitar
I never knew something like this even existed, so many songs I can learn now. I only keep my guitars in standard and something like this is would be fantastic
I just want to thank you for the way you reviewed this thing. Answered our questions about how it sounds, ran through the settings and showed the full effect, THEN talked about it. A guitarists guitarist man.
@@ididzy It's in the nanoseconds I think, you wouldn't notice it except "MAYBE" in fast runs, but probably only if you were watching a latency counter anyway.
I own both pedals. Drop pedal for alternate tunings only. Pitch fork for harmonies and pitch shifting. Both pedals are great. Drop pedal is a must have on my pedal board. Have pitch fork on pedal board too but not a must have. Drop makes floating trem guitars hassle free and stop bar guitars you only need one guitar for gigs. Worth every penny. My back thanks digitech.
Perfect demo!! You did this so well. The same riff every time and just stepping through the operations of the pedal. Thanks and I am sold buying one today
This is fantastic. I recently bought a new RG with a double-locking/floating trem, and while I love the guitar it's a real pain in the arse when I want to drop a half step to get that "90's Alt/Metal" sound that I grew up on and love. This pedal addresses that issue with the touch of a button which could prove to be invaluable. I actually kind of enjoy the tinkering and setup involved with a floating tremolo system, but having the ability to drop a half or whole step on the fly is awesome!
Bought one but the larger combo DT Whammy and now it is my FAVORITE go to pedal. Been playing doom death type metal with it and works great. Great for making playing easier than messing with strings and floyd rose. Most good metal is in E flat tuning like Slayer and Sabbath and most harder core stuff down to Drop C# and some in Drop B!
joseph bernard it's a great pedal. Far better than anything else out there for detune pedals. The pitch fork sucks and the POG still doesn't track as well as this. My experience anyway
id buy this, only having 1 guitar, it's floyd rose, all my fav songs varies in tunies, if I don't have one, I'd be force to be stuck with that tuning till I finish the song but the case is that, the song I'm learning is hard af I need rest so I wanna cool down and learn some radiohead about the changing in different tuning, I'm gonna use a headset
Thanks for the review Steve. We just returned from a European tour a few weeks back where the airline lost our gear. Trying to find baritone scale guitars to borrow/rent was basically impossible (we play six string 27" guitars in drop A#), so we had to just make due with regular scale and very heavy strings slapped on, which worked but wasn't ideal. We're now considering buying these as a safety backup for those situations, and your review has helped in that decision. Thanks again!
Great info that goes beyond most videos regarding latency, staying in tune, etc. This answered questions I had in my mind about the pedal and how it feels to use it. I have one arriving tomorrow and can't wait to try it out.
Would have been nice if they added a single knob that adds pick attack and brightness into the signal so you can restore your sound to taste at lower tunings
Man I was in a Crue tribute (One guitar, one set. We did 4 set's). This would of made my life a lot more sane. Last setting would be great for 70's style harmonies. Last two points were great. Great metal pedal. like it. good review.
I like how this pedal doesn't make it sound like the tone is being altered. I used to have a DigiTech Whammy pedal and when using the pitch shifting it the tone sounded fake-ish.
My band uses the Digitech Drop, both myself and the bass player has one. Very handy to not have to fool around with tuning a guitar down or having to bring a bunch of guitars! I want a 2nd one for my piezo signal.
I'll start off by saying that you're the best guitar teacher that I've ever heard speak. You're very articulate and precise. Now for my question. I'm looking to play in Drop C and Drop Bb. The way I understand it is that this drop pedal will only drop all of the strings the same amount of semi-tones all at once. So it won't get me to Drop Bb which is 6 semi-tones lower than standard on the low E and 4 semitones lower on all the rest. Or Drop C which is 4 semi-tones lower on the low E and 2 semi-tones lower on all the rest. Am I correct? Should I just have two guitars ready to go? One in Drop C and one in Drop Bb? Seems like this would be the only solution.
I need this thing my guitars, they are all mostly D standard and this would allow me to drop at least to B that would be my lowest need for down tuning. Hopefully without losing power
Hi ..what is your tuning of choice? You never said that I know of ..but what do you prefer? What's your favorite? Your lessons are world class your a you tube living legend Steve.o
I had this pedal once, it sounded great when I was playing rhythm guitar. But when I started to solo on the high e, b and g strings there was a harmonic effect. I don’t know if it was because the amp wasn’t loud enough, but I don’t think the harmonic sound was me hearing the actual strings when I picked the notes.
I had this issue with mine, sent it back today, think it's a faulty pedal or normal? My friend played in same tuning and same notes etc and his sounded fine compared to my :( see my vid and description you'll see
The octave setting was rhythmic and funky. Bet it would be great to run into 2 amps . 1 being the norm set up and the other with that pedal on the octave. Thanks for the great video🖖✌
Hi Steve!! i would like to ask you a technical question: where do you put your Drop Pedan in the pedalboard chain??!! i guess you need to get the right place!! thanks in advance for any answer.........
Great video, Steve. I personally use the Digitech Element XP's whammy pedal function to switch between E and C standard. I also sometimes program and save settings to use other tunings. I imagine that this Drop Pedal is a lot easier to use. I was wondering if there was any pedal that can give you harmonies, like a second guitarist. I have seen some, but they require you to play in specific keys. Is there any pedal that will produce a copy of what you are playing, but a perfect fifth higher or lower than you are playing regardless of what keys you are playing? Thank you for your time. I don't know too much about harmony yet, so sorry if a perfect fifth is a really ugly harmony that confused you, it's just an example.
My PRS Silversky has great acoustic volume... so I can hear it clearly and it clashes strongly with the drop tuning. Latency is noticeable. I like it for bass emulation though.
where in the pedal chain is the best place for this? I am using a LIne 6 POD HD500X, and the pitch shifter in it isn't great, so I think this would be a better option, just need to know if it should come before the board or after

I now feel so sorry for the Ibanez I have and heard it crying in the other room after it heard you play while looking at me when I went to see what was going on with disappointment.....
What's your opinion using the pedal for clean guitar signal, maybe with a little compression before the pedal to give it an even signal. For reference, I have a Roland VG-8 which uses a split pickup (GK2a), and of course it does excellent pitch change and processing with (to me) undetectable latency, since its treating each string as a separate source and re-modeling the live signal. Its so good I could just about use its octave down as a bass guitar. But sadly that system is just too big and heavy to lug around, so it only gets home use during recording sessions. But all the DROP demos I've heard pretty much focus on use with distortion. My hope would be for it to sound decent in live situations where I'm playing something that requires clear open strings to sound like the song I'm covering. Maybe even with an amplified acoustic. I know I can ultimately buy one and return it if I don't like the sound. But I'd feel better about giving it a try if I could just hear a few more examples of use with a clean tone.
Hi. I just got this pedal and was playing around with it. Clean tones do sound a little synthy, but it is a synth pedal after all. It just depends on whether you would rather setup multiple guitars for different tunings, or use the Drop and just ignore the tone change. To me, its fine until you get to the baritone range which is about 5 semi tones.
Before I watched your video I had read several fairly poor reviews for this pedal but after watching your video I can't see why they gave it a bad review. :-)
When I use this pedal, I don't have to use heavy strings, right? I've been using 10 46 or 10 52 and my guitar is in standard tuning. So if I use this pedal, can I use like drop C, C or drop B tuning without any problem? My other question is that does this pedal only allow us to use drop tunings or can I use D tuning or C tuning like In Flames does?
You just answered my question, I will only go from standard to half step and whole step down and I have a guitar with a floyd so I can now play some pantera without having a headache while tuning down the floyd

I've been eyeballing this pedal and haven't seen much negative @ it, but I'd like to hear a different viewpoint. What negative review did you see?
Maybe it suffers the same issue as Boss' Metal Zone: people use it wrong.
Late but yep I use 10s and go down to c and d standard now issue, bye bye to spaghetti strings 😂
