Kind of puzzled by how they're marketing this tbh. They could be selling it at the same price as the original, with maybe one extra plate, and selling more plates for $10 each.
I think if I were to want something with interchangeable plates I’d want it to be waffles, mini donuts, cake pops, mini cakes. That would be a great appliance to have!
I have the George foreman g5 from the early 2000's it's a grill griddle and waffle maker. I wish it had caught on enough for all those plates. I'd love cake pops .
I have that same George Foreman appliance --it's all that and a panini press too. The removable plates are a one of its best features, allowing for a thorough cleaning.

On the other hand ...the plates only do one side , lot of extra cost, Btw mine cost 8$ each much better than 50 bucks here for designs added
I own the reg Dash Mini Waffle Maker, and since its just me I saw no sense in getting the special designs one. Today I watched just out of curiosity to see what they would look like. Anyways, I only make about a cup's worth of batter & make as many it makes. I freeze whatever I don't eat for the next time. I think its great for those who are single like myself OR for those with children; but a bigger standard waffle maker would be best for those with larger families. IMO BTW: I also got mine from WM for $8.98 + tax for my BD in Sept.
I did a quick Google search and Dash sells each design of waffle maker as a nonremovable plate version for $10 or various themed sets of 3 for $30 on their website.
I got mine at a local thrift store for about 4 bucks and used it for the first time last weekend. It worked PERFECTLY. It doesn't have the fancy interchangeable plates, but I'm single with no kids, so that's ok. I may invest in the winter set on Dash's website soon. I don't know how long mine cooked exactly, but I was always taught they're done when you don't see anymore steam. Next time, I'll time it and see how long that is. 😁
You can make those "chaffles" for gluten free or carb free. Make a bunch ahead and freeze or refrigerate them. You can also use it to make sweet cookie treats etc. Definitely be better if it was full sized and made 4 at a time tho!😊
Generally speaking, the first one will always take the longest to cook. Sometime I make 2 loaves of bread and the second one always takes a shorter time than the first. This is true with cookies too. It takes a while for the entire mass of the thing (as opposed to just the plates) to heat up and stabilize. When you make them one of after the other, the cooker doesn't have time to cool back down entirely.
I didn't pay near that much for it but I did rush out to find it the second I heard Costco had it. It was sold out online everywhere at the time and as a Dash waffle junkie, I needed this. I've been waiting for removeable plates forever. It's just a bonus that I get designs too!
I got the spring version of the multi-plate for $29.99 at costco - it takes me about 2 minutes per waffle which expedites things, and if you aren't changing plates there is no reheat time. My partner and I really get a kick out of the different plates/ think it is very cute so its worth it to us! It is annoying that you cannot by most of the different plates individually, but rather they only come sold with another waffle maker which we don't need
I didn't think that, but based on your thought, I'm thinking it would pair up nicely with the cup holders he tested since you could keep the batter in a cup in the holder then make a waffle, drive for a bit, eat a waffle, make another waffle, drive, and so on.
My guess is they expect you to buy two then just keep on rotating. Waffles seem a lot more popular in the USA than in England. We have a tiny little maker like that but it was cheap and it gets used to make keto buns for burgers.
This is the ONE thing my mother-in-law asked for for Christmas. I finally found it for $25 including shipping at Costco and ordered it today… now to watch this video and see if she’ll actually like it…
The thing I like about this is the removable plates. Cleaning is the biggest issue with the cheap model. Removing the plates to be able to actually clean them well would be great.
If you are making chaffles... aka waffles made with cheese..they cook faster and are much crispier. I eat them often on my Keto Diet. I love the ability to remove the plates for cleaning. But I did not get the 7 plates nor do I care about the seasonal ones. I wanted a waffle and the flat griddle surface. which is what I got with the storage container for $20 cheaper and I love the thing. I also have the Dash appliance that makes 4 circular waffles that i use to make Chaffle Sandwiches for a hamburger but etc.
I could see someone listening to music, a podcast, watching television or TH-cam videos while making flavored waffles for the holidays over and over so they could stick them into the freezer for later and trot them out as appropriate and heat those little things easily in a toaster--especially if it's a 4-slot toaster. Add some good topping and you could eat them like cookies, cupcakes, or "ice cream sandwiches". At least they put the different plates in the box. I'd expect a corporation to put only a few in the box and dangle more plates for an additional cost.
I’m pleased that they at least included a container for those plates. $50.00 sounds like a lot. Maybe the stores will bring it down closer to Christmas?
I love that you review things like a real person would actually use them. Ie, you used the hot hands to hot swap the plates out because you wanted a different design lol.
Wow $50.00? We bought one at Walmart a few weeks ago, that has the christmas tree, for $9.99. Got it as a novelty for the holidays, it doesn't work bad but my old one that has been trucking for thirty years still does way better. Great review!
Maybe make a lot of different ones at one time, freeze them, then re heat in your toaster oven? Still not worth 50 bucks though. Another amazing video!
For that price they should have covered the handle with silicone to keep it cool. And I wouldn't want to wait to switch plates, everyone gets snowflakes.❄😊
Thank you for hte review. I have bought the pumpkin, tree, ghost, & witch hat for $2.50. I found the first one for a $1.00 on dollar day and the other three for 50cents at the liquidtion store on different days and they still cost under the $50 for all in one.
My favorite part of James' video is when he casually tosses the instructions and other useless papers to the side 😂 but 50 bucks is a hard pass! Happy Saturday 👍
Something small like this would be a great project for kids but the burn hazard makes it unthinkable. That and the price tag makes this a hard "NO" for me.
My wife has a few of these Dash mini waffle irons and pancake makers. She loves them. She uses them at work and cooks eggs, sausage all kinds of stuff on them.
The only issue I have with the Dash mini waffle machines is how long it takes. Ive started doing it atcthe dining table so I can makeca bunch while I multi-task, freeze them, and pop some in the toaster as needed. I think theyre great for one person who only wants two or three waffles at a time though.
I got two of them used for $10. I keep them in my locker at work. They make awesome burgers! I use one to toast English muffins and the other one to cook the burger. Then I put the burger together with some cheddar and the whole thing goes back into the waffle iron to toast in the leftover burger grease. Once the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, I take it off and add lettuce and tomato. I would highly recommend this product, but I do not recommend buying them new @ $50. Get them used!
Imagine making about 50 of those for your family... You'd have to eat in shifts or get some hot lights to keep them warm... Yes I own a similar tiny waffle maker. I hate it
I hate mine too, in fact I hate almost everything Dash, a product design to do one thing and one thing only and even that takes forever and many times not properly done. I purchased the one that came with a separate griddle unit, hamburgers make a mess, you can’t wash the unit well, egg overcooked and takes forever. Waffles take even longer.
I purchased awhile back the 3 different units, griddle, grill and waffle maker. Hate them all, waist of money, waffles take forever, griddle overcooks the eggs, hamburger makes a mess difficult to clean. Someone gave me the rice cooker, same garbage. I just pull my pressure cooker for rice, cook burgers on the stove and forget about waffles, pancakes suit me just fine.
Dude you make the best videos. I'm blazin on my balcony and have been watching your channel for years. Your content is so dope. Did you close the online store? I haven't heard you mention it in awhile.

I just looked it up. Why fear though? I could understand fear with normal mandolins because one’s fingers get so close to such a sharp blade and many people have suffered terrible injuries because of that, but the electric mandolin looks like a totally safe product, using a feeding chute like a food processor. Speaking of food processors... I think a high end one is well worth getting over an electric mandolin, because it’s capable of doing everything the e-mandolin is, but can do sooo much more. That big e-mandolin looks like it takes up just about the same amount of kitchen space as a food processor too! I know it’s a big price difference, but if food processors are essential for a ton of dishes these days, and are huge time savers.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 Yeah - I have a great food processor. I’m a gadget nerd though - saw the electric mandolin and couldn’t order it fast enough. And I will be trying out soon. I exaggerated the “fear”. 🤪

i have one of those regular ones and they are useless unless your gonna eat one waffle for breakfast so what i do is plan ahead, in the evening while watching videos i make the batter and just kep making them till i have 8 or 10 ind put them in the freezer and when i want some drop them in the toaster just like an eggo only a little bit better.
Seems like too much work to get waffles. You can get some pretty good frozen Belgian style waffles at the grocery that I'd argue are better than home made.
i have a normal mini dash and a christmas mini dash. my kid loves them and i can see the use of having this 7 change plate, though i am uninterested in it. Does anyone have room for 7-8 mini waffle makers? if you have a kid that's a picky eater, have a hard time getting to eat due to illness, etc then something like this would be handy.
it makes sense for it to be distinctly more expensive (because just think about how much a single plate could be reasonably priced at), but unless you're a big fan of mini waffles and love the idea of matching them to any occasion, it simply isn't worth it. not because it's a _bad_ idea or _significantly_ overpriced for what it is, but only because you don't care much for the feature making it more costly.
If someone has kids and wants to treat them to special waffles for whatever reason, then yes, it's worth it. It is normal that it takes time to heat up when you change plates, any similar device would as well. But things like this are not designed to be changing plates after every waffle. Make a batch using one plate, keep them warm in the oven, and then do the same with other plates until you have the quantity you need to make the kids happy. I can't imagine too many adults wanting anything other than regular waffles in any case.
WHAT?! $50?! HELLLLLL NO! when i started my obsession with keto chaffles, i went on to amazon. mini dash's were going for a little more than $10. then i noticed the orange halloween version (the design difference is regular waffle on 1 side/that pumpkin shape on the other). TWO of them for $10! DEAL!!! LOVE them. LOVE having 2 so I can make my chaffles quicker. but pay $50 for a mini dash? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got my mini dash on sale for 9,99 and you can get them with one special unremovable plate, so I would just buy 5 of your favorite shapes mini dashes.
No parent would give their kids a choice. What most of us would do is make 10 of each plate, a few at a time, freeze them and pop them into the toaster when needed. I don’t know a single person that makes fresh breakfast in the morning.
I just got one today at Amazon, it was $12.99! Fifty bucks is massive thievery! Oh wait........mine doesn't offer those additional plates, never saw any of those on TH-cam videos either.
I'm not sure the different plates would be worth the price for me, but my mini dash regular waffle maker gets pretty hot from the steam and I have to use an oven mitt
That is pretty cool for someone like my daughter who likes doing things like that for the kids. Make them all up and reheat them in the toaster oven. Be creative.
I bought the Walmart knockoff on sale some years back for 5.99. It works perfectly fine, but I would save my money for a larger one in the future. Too time consuming to make tiny waffles, one at a time.
My mom and I came up with this idea a few years ago when I bought a couple different Halloween shapes. This winter I was planning on doing waffle party with my young nephews, and it occurred to me that I'd still want multiple machines to make enough and have them still be warm While serving . I do still like the idea of having a couple machines, and being able to buy the specific plates i want.
multiply the size by four so you can make four at once, include double the plates, charge the same price. probably unrealistic but that's tiny. even buying multiple so you can have multiple waffles going at once is asking a lot. this is definitely for the kid who gets home after school and nobody else is home but they can make themselves some waffles easily
A waffle is a waffle and finish and taste is dependant on your mix and cooking time, and I think all waffle makers give you the same opportunity, the shapes are just a gimmick.
This guy literally made a Christmas tree waffle and it came out looking like a Christmas tree and STILL COMPLAINED that it wasn't what he was expecting?!?!??!?!?!?
I tried the dash omelette maker, since I live alone and don't want to make a whole pan's worth but the internals aren't removable. I liked it and it performed great, but cleaning it, relegates it to the never again.

@@carmenmartinez2882 my son has autism so not everything is the same
On Costco, it's $23 now; $29 with a $6 discount. I have their waffle stick maker and use it every single day and it's a winner.
it makes sense for it to be distinctly more expensive (because just think about how much a single plate could be reasonably priced at), but unless you're a big fan of mini waffles and love the idea of matching them to any occasion, it simply isn't worth it. not because it's a _bad_ idea or _significantly_ overpriced for what it is, but only because you don't care much for the feature making it more costly.
I have that one and my 5 year old daughter loves eating the special waffles
That's a scenario where this makes sense.
I appreciate your commitment to the craft.
If I decide to get one, it will be at Costco. The price is much cheaper, plus there is a manufacturer’s coupon for more savings right now.
Cut the price in half and I'm sold but $50 is too much for this thing. As always, great video!
I think a better question for this item is if you have $50 to waste are there better things to waste it on.
A good fair review I wouldn't pay £50 for a waffle maker no matter what shapes it produces.
$50 is different than £50 - just saying! The latter is a good deal more money.
But I wouldn’t spend $50 on this thing either.
Love using this for brownies!
Great idea ! Thanks!
@@marims.6667 Works for cornbread mix, too.
There goes my diet!
James, knife sharper video for us! I know you'd make an outstanding video with a product like that! Cheers!
WHAT?!
I got it this week on Costco online for $23.99 (free shipping).
Does it claim to be a certain wattage or does it list the watts anywhere?
I got my mini dash on sale for 9,99 and you can get them with one special unremovable plate, so I would just buy 5 of your favorite shapes mini dashes.
I have the cheapo Walmart one and what I do is do a huge batch and freeze for grab and go in the toaster
I have several Dash Waffle Makers - three together don’t cost as much as this one that comes with three plates. I own the ones I like!!!
What does the other side of the heart waffle look like?
Can you place the plates in the dishwasher? If so, that could potentially be worth the extra money since I hate cleaning waffle plates by hand.
Why not? What's it gonna do? Melt the metal?
No parent would give their kids a choice. What most of us would do is make 10 of each plate, a few at a time, freeze them and pop them into the toaster when needed. I don’t know a single person that makes fresh breakfast in the morning.
How many people could you possibly even know?
Also I have found with my regular dash waffle maker 4min is perfect
I just got one today at Amazon, it was $12.99! Fifty bucks is massive thievery! Oh wait........mine doesn't offer those additional plates, never saw any of those on TH-cam videos either.
I'm not sure the different plates would be worth the price for me, but my mini dash regular waffle maker gets pretty hot from the steam and I have to use an oven mitt
Watching this video while at Costco with this thing in my cart, it's on sale for 23$ Canadian
Thanks this was very helpful, I just saw them in Costco for less plates and money. Think I'll just stick with the ones I have.
Thanks James, you are amazing!❤
That is pretty cool for someone like my daughter who likes doing things like that for the kids. Make them all up and reheat them in the toaster oven. Be creative.
"It's a waffle..." As James tastes one, loved that... Thanks!
I bought the Walmart knockoff on sale some years back for 5.99. It works perfectly fine, but I would save my money for a larger one in the future. Too time consuming to make tiny waffles, one at a time.
You can skip the preheat process if you only use one type of plate, and cook it a bit longer.
Not gonna wait for it to cool off first? Mad lad!
You're definitely better off getting a cheap quad waffle maker, unless novelty is just that important to you
As always a great video but I think you should have done a time and taste test of the basic unit and the new one
Nah, the benefit of one model vs the other is the interchangeable ability and the designs on the plates, not speed.
multiply the size by four so you can make four at once, include double the plates, charge the same price. probably unrealistic but that's tiny. even buying multiple so you can have multiple waffles going at once is asking a lot. this is definitely for the kid who gets home after school and nobody else is home but they can make themselves some waffles easily
A waffle is a waffle and finish and taste is dependant on your mix and cooking time, and I think all waffle makers give you the same opportunity, the shapes are just a gimmick.
Did you actually wait for it to "preheat" each time even though it was already hot after cooking the previous waffle?
Costco has them on sale for under $30
I bought the same one from Marshalls for $10
I got this for my birthday, I am glad I watched this video before trying it out. Bummer about that handle.
This guy literally made a Christmas tree waffle and it came out looking like a Christmas tree and STILL COMPLAINED that it wasn't what he was expecting?!?!??!?!?!?
He had issues with how detailed it is
It looked smudgier than preferable
I tried the dash omelette maker, since I live alone and don't want to make a whole pan's worth but the internals aren't removable. I liked it and it performed great, but cleaning it, relegates it to the never again.
