Looks great! The car is a real credit to you and come up magic with your restoration. Beautiful looking car. Terrific colour! She'd be quite good on fuel and get a long quite having the 2.72 diff ratios. It's a good ratio to have.👌😃 Great video thanks for sharing. Look after it.👍😁
In Victoria the cop cars at the time had wider 15 inch steel rims...Holdens and Fords...The highway patrol cars were the best with high performance motors...the VK Commodore running a brock engine...The Falcon interceptor running the 4v high comp 351...Victoria police had their own mechanics and workshops and tuned their own cars...
I remember a cop telling me years ago these were the best things back then to run down crooks lol Higher comp heads etc and would run past 200 clicks no probs I had a July 1982 Build ESP Chestnut paint Sierra tan interior and remeber the sound of the 3 inch mandrel exhaust we put on it My god its sound is still with me today Awesome resto mate and rare !! Well done 🤩🤩
Yep 1982 Fairmont Esp 302, dad gave me on my 21st a long long long time ago in a galaxy far away 😂, well I made my trade as an engine reconditioner,/ machinist blahhhh blahhhh, at Westend Performance, Campbeltown, Steve Hambridge my boss the later the late Sam Fenech, anyway I spent $2500 grand on parts etc,all work machining etc was me in the early 90's plus thankyou my dear late Dad for my present 🎁, I wish I still had her cause that Cleveland pulled like a war horse 🐎,351, two v heads with four valves, wiend manifold , 10.3 to one compression, mild hydraulic cam, shit I can't remember the size but it was a great set-up, 2400 stauly, pardon my spelling lol, single 2 half inch Brock, lol yeah Brock exhaust, 650 CFM mechanical carb and so on , ESP gold wheels and Monza Red factory paint, oh how I wish I still had her plus my Ol ZD factory 351 clevo, C4 9 inch, factory plus air conditioning Fairlane, 😢😢
Like you said, it feels weird having an XE that’s “like as it was new” very nice looking car. It’s a credit to you for all the hard yards not to mention dollars you’ve put in to it. 👍🏻 I couldn’t help but notice the manual choke which wasn’t even on the six cylinder models from XE series on. Keep that A/C cranked up, you’ll need it up in Darwin. 😎
Since you live in the NT i would love to see the gorgeous vehicle at the Red Centre Nats next year, my dad used to own an XE Fairmont Ghia in the exact same colour, only it was a six.
Thanks very much. I am wrapped with the outcome and sticking with the original color scheme from the factory. Such a great color and interior combination.
Beautiful mate. I have owned one myself for 32years still have it never sell it sentimental reasons now but it was owned by the country roads authority down here in Victoria for chasing speedsters up the Hume hwy. I have done a ground up restoration it has fr Simmons now and it was white in colour but now it's done in Britannica pearl like a green with the original 351 block like yours but l changed my interior for the esp's spent way too much when l was young and stupid but it still gets comments when you go fill it up which is not that often coz l don't drive it much to hard to get parts now. But fantastic job on your resto and full credit to you.
It is a aftermarket off the shelf set up. Just make sure the tail shaft magnets are spot on and held on good and tight. I changed from using the plastic zip tie to a metal tie. Unit is called Command DIY Cruise Control Kit - Vacuum Actuated with Dash Remote AP60B
Love the Ex Police Chaser 👍 Great job on the resto AAA+++ all round, can you please advise me how or who did the chrome strip's on the front & rear bumpers, they look magnificent as the whole car does! Big pat on the back, love it! Cheers from Sydney
Loving the factory/extras tastefully done. Just wondering how does the A/C handle the Darwin humidity ? I took a AU Fairmont Ghia from Victoria when working at the Gas plant and it was the best thing ever!
It works a treat. Upgraded condenser thankfully. No thermo fans but as long as I don't sit there and idle forever it is just fine. I have a 12 inch front mount condenser fan that can be switched on or off as needed for back up. I much prefer the mechanical fan for the job the car has.
You took great pains to have it at original spec but spoilt its serenity with a non-stock exhaust system. Funny how you got rubber floor coverings but a carpeted boot. Make sure it has a good security system or kill switch. But otherwise a superb resto.
Thanks heaps. Yep I happen to have scored a Fairmont boot carpet and why not throw it in there. The original bit of carpet is sitting on the shelf. Kind of cleans up the boot nicely covering the wheel. The exhaust is for fun. Driver car.
@@MrHSVGTS300 The exhaust sounds mint - not over the top but lets you know immediately there's something special under the bonnet imho. I'm in awe of this car mate fkn beautiful job
My bro had a chev impala T - shift 350 ... asked what car am i driving , i said XD Fairmont 🤷 tidy car six cylinder red ' reliable as traveled up and down the country no problems .... @@MrHSVGTS300 Ok cool...it's a nice find, and am glad to see that its been restored back to original spec. Enjoy driving it out on that lovely territory highway!!
Material around the $2500 and about the same to get them made up to suit. Just on $800 to get the cushions and actual fitment onto the seats. I did all the cleaning up of the old seats bases which did need a fair whack of work.
My version of a XE police tribute car. Paint and interior as per the factory plate with a 351 driveline with the FMX and 28 spline 2:77 diff. Very good cruiser you can drive in all day in comfort
Sweet, although I thought cop cars were "S" spec, which would mean blacked window frames. Without "S" spec, no tacho, but you have a tacho. Although who knows, maybe the cops got their own deal.
Yep it is a tribute so my own style on the old girl. I prefer the chrome on the GL with the stock style. I actually met a fella some weeks ago who said that the NSW police XE 351 stuck with the XD rear leaf springs set up and it was custom from the factory. I can not advise on that one way or another but interesting none the less
Yep they are good old stories. I remember back in the early 90s a ESP XE 351 manual great nick 75000km on it for sale for $9k while I was down at Winton raceway. The car was sitting at the track all day and few people looked but it was there all day with the for sale stickers. Amazing thinking back but it would be same for most car and bike people.

Many years ago; i rode in a 1979 Aussie Falcon with the 351C and a 4 speed stick, this was in SoCal around 1987
Got a nice note too. Motor sounds pretty schmik!👌

Beautiful XE, V8 column shift is a great combo. Ice Blue looks magnificent on the body shape of these.
