I wouldn't call Soldier Boy a villain. His goal is to get revenge on those who betrayed him. Pretty much any man whose worth his salt would have the same ambitions if they suffered from a similar series of events. As for killing homelander, that's a blessing for the world. So that's something that makes him good. People who say he's a bad guy do so because they can't get past their modern sensibiltiies. Specifically regarding the fact that Soldier Boy used to discipline his team with violence. But if you truly want to understand his actions, then you have to understand that Soldier Boy has the mentality of a soldier, and not some modern they/them tiktok soldier but an old school killl or be killed kind of soldier. It was his entire persona, and he lived up to it. Back in the day, if someone in the unit you were in command of mouthed off to you or disobeyed orders, you would hit them with the butt of your rifle stock. Everyone's forgetting what Soldier Boy has said and done in the show. When MM confronted him about his family slaughter "You killed my family", Soldier Boy coldly responded, "Which one?". I believe in this scene he probably was trying to manipulate Hughie, or he was a sociopath who didn't realize what he was.
Its also what an honest killer who knows he has been responsible for the suffering of innocent people says when a person he doesn't recognize calls him out over bodies that have been cold for 20 years. There's isn't much to say in such a circumstance. You're face to face with someone who is here to kill you as part of a vendetta. This is the crop sown in ages past, the innocent child in a house with the dead, now here as a man to end you. You have to expect such things in that line of work. If you understand what "Live by the sword, die by the sword" really means then you'll understand why this was the only proper reaction from Soldier Boy.
I think it's important to remember that the Soldier Boy that we see walking around in S3 in 40 years of torture removed from the Soldier Boy that committed all the evil acts. That likely notably shifted his personality and is why so many comments think he's not that bad of a guy.
What you mean the ending? Mate he was getting swarmed and they were putting the mask back on him, his ptsd was probably through the roof since he knew they wanted him back in the box after 40 years in there. He would do damage if let go just by arguing with another man or dads that look off to his eyes or girls who reject him. Don't forget he is a literal walking human-vest too. Soldier Boy did turn out to be more of a villain in the end but looking at the bigger picture, Homelander is still the much bigger threat. Soldier Boy has no aspirations to take over the world or any desire to rule humanity. He also has a code, twisted as it may be, but it’s better than having none at all like Homelander. I think the team lost sight of who needed to be stopped in the end. Homelander is a raging psychopath that unchecked, could wipe us all out while having a big grin on his face.
It’s because of Ryan in the new season you see butcher throw away the cookies because he loves Ryan. He wants him to live because he’s the last part of his wife that left.
The reason i like Soldier Boy is because it is a depiction of the reality for combat vets who have been disenfranchised and discarded. Treated like trash when they get home and have things they need help with that they can’t talk to anyone about cuz their records are blacked out. They exhibit all the signs of PTSD but can’t explain how they got it because of a NDA that will have consequences for breaching. I know cuz I watched it happen. I’ve been third party to this kind of shit for a long time.
It’s hard to have sympathy for people who treat others like trash tho, while soldier boy isn’t a villain, his old conservative views, and insecurities make him lash out and appear toxic. But yeah ppl who aggressively project their insecurities like he did in the clip don’t deserve support or sympathy until they’ve decided to stop punching down on others, then we can help them no longer punch down on themselves. For more context: he projected onto the man with the baby holder bc hes confused why men aren’t afraid or insecure of being perceived that way, bc soldier boy would def be insecure if he had to wear one, instead of insulting the entire generation of men for ‘not being man enough” (which btw isn’t a real thing, there’s no such thing as masculinity nor a real man bc they’re made up social constructs), he could of just acknowledged the insecurity within him, he has redeemable qualities and was def screwed over a lot but until he stops with the homophobia, toxic/insecure comments and other typical conservative prejudices like the way they treat women, he ain’t getting my sympathy
I don’t know. Looking at how he is here, it really doesn’t feel like he’s a bad guy. Sure, he has his superiority complex, and why not since he’s one of most perfect supes created, but then he isn’t evil in the way he was depicted in Black Noir’s flashback. 🤷🏻♂️

Yes. The Boys is based on a comic by Garth Ennis, a writer who notoriously hates superheroes. Nearly every superhero and superhero team in this book is a parody of a preexisting property. Homelander= Superman, The Deep = Aquaman, Atrain = is a parody of the Flash and other speedsters, The Seven = The JLA, etc. The TV show is much better and actually explores the concepts in more depth than the comic books. The comic books are about as deep as a puddle and relies more on shocking their audience than asking them to think.
He IS a product of his time. He got the super-juice in the 50's? 60's? It decelerated his aging, but it means many of his cultural norms are trapped in amber, at best updated just before getting iced in the late 80's. And if he took cues from his Dad who was very likely brought up in private school in 1910, you're dealing with norms passed down from 100 years ago. That IS a lot to "unpack." Vicky Newman is definitely 3rd place.

Its also what an honest killer who knows he has been responsible for the suffering of innocent people says when a person he doesn't recognize calls him out over bodies that have been cold for 20 years. There's isn't much to say in such a circumstance. You're face to face with someone who is here to kill you as part of a vendetta.
