This film was originally Stallone's version of Beverly Hills Cop, but he had a falling out with the screenwriters, and made this instead, which received negative Reviews by Critics, but was a box office hit, $160 million dollars against a $30 million dollar budget.
Funny thing is that in BHC II, a Cobra poster is shown on Rosewood's bedroom wall when Foley goes in there to make a phone call and Rosewood is given this Dirty Harry/Cobra persona by Foley and Taggert throughout the movie because of his obsession with having "sufficient" firepower.
I've probably seen this movie a hundred times, literally. I'd watch it all the time when I was young (39 now). Die Hard, Predator, Cobra, Commando, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, Hard Target, Tango & Cash - I've seen 'em all too many times. Classic movies that they simply do not make anymore today.

@@trancemaster871 Agreed! Thompson is an underrated actor, even when he gets pigeon-holed into these physically intimidating roles. He definitely stole the show, especially since Sly was too busy playing nookie with his future wife to put too much of himself into this project, as fun as it is.

Brian Thompson, the actor who plays the main villain "The Night Slasher", i´ve seen him so many times in so many different movies and tv shows and i find him really intimidating. This is a good movie. It has all the classic things of the 80s action movies well made, and this one has a dark atmosphere i like it. It would be interesting to ask to Stallone why he never came back to this character, specially when the movie was a box hit and it made money.
Rambo: First Blood came first then Arnold made Commando. Next was Cobra and Arnold responded with Raw Deal. Arnold never took himself too seriously so that was the difference.
Arnold isn't on the same level as a character actor . Imo almost all of Stallone's films were a step above Arnold's . He only got lucky with Terminator due to James Cameron's story , combined with the music score that made him Iconic . Aside from that his movies are really a step below Stallone's .
It took me so long to love this movie.. it’s so many genres in one .. Horror movie, action movie, romantic movie, Buddy cop movie, road movie.. it was only this year once I understood why it was all those things (watched a couple of YT vids) that came to finally love it and obsessed about even for a couple of weeks too
Brian Thompson who played the Night Slasher, he most definately got around. He also played one of the trouble makers that were first to confront the Terminator in the first film, actually think it was his clothes the terminator took. Also played many different characters in the old Buffy The Vampire Slayer series. From hardcore adults only Slasher movies to teenagers soap series, he was and still is everywhere.

Paula Gosling, the author of the 1978 source novel "The Running Duck" (published in the US as "Fair Game") sold the movie rights to Warner Bros. and finally learned about the actual movie when the son of a friend of hers spotted her name in a trailer. They re-issued the novel under the original title but as a movie tie-in in the UK (Gosling is a born American living 100 miles away from London), the US publisher wanted to re-issue it under the movie title but Stallone objected because his screen story differs too much from the book. I personally think this is one of Sylvester Stallone's most underrated thrillers. Yes, it may have got lost among some of his others and didn't get the recognition and light that it maybe deserved, but as a stand alone thriller, it is brilliant. Stallone again wrote it himself, (he was a writer first as well as wanting to be an actor, which is why he writes or co-writes a lot of his own stuff of course), and actually based it on a novel called 'Fair Game' by Paula Gosling. I've been curious about the book since, but not sure if I would read it. The movie is dark, gripping and extremely spooky and atmospheric, which I don't think has been pointed out that much over the years. The lead killer, who's name we never know, played by Brian Thompson is a terrific bad guy and carries great menace. You also hate him more and more as the movie goes on, so cudos to him. @@lewiscook129 That's cool
So...anyone else remember the Main Bad guy from this film was one of the Punks at the beginning or The Terminator that had his heart ripped out?
Fun Fact: She screamt for Help in the Hospital, but nobody shows up. She pushed the Fire alarm and Everybody runs out off his Room. 🤷🏼♂️🤣
If you're going to bother watching this...you've got to watch Arnold's 'Raw Deal'...lol 👍✌
Or Tango and Cash which came out a few years later in 1989
Raw Deal is a sleeper of a good movie, I've always loved it. "You shouldn't drink and bake".
@@governorboltz LMAO...that was a great line! 😂
Death Race 2000 with Sylvester Stallone & David Carradine.
You should watch “Over the Top.” One of my many favorite Stallone movies :))
Damn man.. youre going through all the 80’s classics. 👍👍
THE BEST MOVIE IN THE 1980s
and commando
And Tango and cash.....
Cobra and Over the Top are my fave two Sly movies,Great reaction.
You should see one of his underrated films called Lockdown, it's very good
My favorite kill from Stallone is the empaling in Cliffhagner.
Man you have to see "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" or "Snatch" !!
The word back in the day was Stallone wanted to keep this movie at around 90 mins.
So the theaters can play it one more time that day....smart if true.
Loved the thumbnail w/ the glasses 👓
You didn’t really need to see Cobra. It should feel like you’ve already seen it. A better choice would be Night Hawks with Sly and Rutger Hauer. But I’m here for it, regardless.
Yeah I was going to suggest Nighthawks. I don’t think most know it exists, it’s not talked about much. But a great film. Also starring Billy Dee Williams!
Yes Night Hawks is a superior movie but this one is just cheesy fun
Nighthawks is super underrated.
Robert Rodriguez met with sly to discuss a TV series Cobra spin off
Brian Thompson (The Nightslasher) actually had to audition about 7 times, because he was such a nice guy that Stallone didn’t buy him as a psycho!
I watched this at a friend's house when I was 9 and the serial killer stuff scared the hell out of me!
Same here as a kid . And it came out not too long after the real life Night stalker case , in L.A. where i lived . It's obvious the night slasher .. name was taken from the real case . Much little Dirty Harry and the Zodiac killer .
@@SJ-ty5rw The ratings board heavily censored Cobra because of the real life LA Night Stalker. An entire home invasion scene was cut.
@@ryanjacobson2508 Yes it's a shame have heard their was much more footage . And had to be edited down . I wish they would release the original version . Even if the quality is not good on film . Would be great to see how it was originally intended to be shown .
I love this film only for Brian Thomson, his role is something incredible
Tango & Cash should be your next movie. Cliffhanger after that.
Surprised you haven't watch the next 4 Rambo movies. They are sick. And Cobra is one off my favorite 80's action movies.
LOL! Wow I haven't seen this flick in like 20 years.....
Straight forward 80's action.
