Everything @Scott Cook and @Richard Getso said is right on. Your channel really does add a wholesomeness of which TH-cam could use more. It's fortunate for all of us you fly for an avocation, instead of knitting or breeding roses or something (You'd likely be good at whatever focused your attention).
I think this is your best edit yet...its VERY good! Well done. Alaska suits you! AND so does the pilot :P thanks for this it's wonderful. Get outa Miami
The same day this was filmed a man died while flying a Piper Super Cub from the same airport, Lake Hood Strip to the Valdez STOL competition. Alaska is a majestic and beautiful place and we see so much more of it flying our aircraft here but it’s also one of the most dangerous places to fly. Not as much due to terrain but due to weather conditions that change so rapidly. As the incredible video shows with the cloud layer. What an awesome job on videography and editing. Such a fun spirited Woman. Safe Travels
Shawn McCrary yes! We were all sad to hear the news. I believe he was flying around the same time as we were ... we were all shocked and devastated to hear it. It can happen to any pilot.. no matter the skill level... James did a great job evaluating all different routes, checking webcams during flight ... and communicating to other pilots for the best options... I cut a lot of it out... but i learned a lot from it. Thanks for the watching and following along !
Great song choice when looking for a hole in the clouds haha! Awesome to see this video a month after going up to Lake Hood for ASES add-on, it brought back memories. I highly recommend doing it and even sharpening up your tailwheel experience with the locals up there, they really take it to a level folks in the lower 48 only dream of!
crazyskyguy absolutely, i ended up getting my tailwheel endorsement while there. I have posted a short video of it few videos back... it was a dream come true for me! Hopefully i can go back for more ...
I was flying to my assigned patrol area in C182 and kept seeing rpm's sliding off. Pushing in throttle and engine a little rough, what's wrong with this dang thing and then the light bulb came on, carb ice, duh. Pulled on CI and it all went back to normal. Lesson learned. :P
""Shame to waste all that gas to come all the way down here to just turn around." That attitude will lead James to become a lawn dart on a mountainside one day. Not smart. Great video!
Alaska is beautiful. From the air it’s spectacular. Lucky me I was there in the winter at -50. Landed on the highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks to bring parts to a broken down bus. Mount McKinley was sure beautiful to see. Can’t believe how many moose were just laying in the ditch or along side the road when I was there. Good memories. Lucky you, got to fly in a tail dragger. Neat to watch the piper and super cubs compete. It’s amazing how quick they can get airborne.
You mentioned Miami, I grew up there and started my flying at a flight school called Pelican Airways at the Hollywood/North Perry Airport (HWO). Many great memories of flying to the FL Keys, but your scenery is so majestic and beautiful.
I live in the tropics, in Puerto Rico, just got back here in time for the 2 hurricanes (Irma, Maria)😬, after spending 5 years in Florida. I've was raised in NYC, love the snow and all in Upstate N.Y., but I would kill to see Alaska as you have seen it girl! Once again, thanks for those awesome vids; ...keep the wheels down! 😎😘
Wow Sonia! I think that's your best video to date by far and not just because of the spectacular scenery, your presentation, style and editing ( including good music choices ) are so much better. If this keeps up you are soon going to give "Steveo" a run for his money, well done I look forward to the next one. BTW I couldn't help but notice a lot of smiles between you two. You go for it girl !
ah thank you for the sweet words!!! It was my first day flying in Alaska, first time seeing glaciers... and first time flying in a tailwheel!!! i was smiling ear to ear!! =)
What an amazing experience for you! Alaska flying is so very different from what we do in the lower 48. Sonia, you MUST put 'Wager With The Wind' at the top of your must read list. You won't regret it. Thanks for the great video!
Morning Sonia, Wow, what a video!! Great stuff!! Tell me friend, did you ever feel your life was in danger in this flight? Looking for a hole to descend through would be a little nerve-a-licious to me! lol... Loved the footage! As always, be safe and take care of you, the world is much more interesting with you in it. Hope to meet you some day!! Cheers!
Girl from the sand, living in the sun, visits the ice, snow, and mountains. Spectacular video. You are not only beautiful, intelligent, adventuresome, but brave too. Looking for a hole in the clouds to descend .... not me. You two look like a great couple. Maybe you could invite iceman to the sun and the sand and show him Miami mountains ... I mean skyscrapers ... could be a shocking experience for him.
Great video and editing, loved the music too, perfect. Wow, looking for a hole in the clouds, and you didn't look at all worried..lol. You better get that life insurance in place, you'll have to pay an up-charge for the aviation coverage, but it's worth it.
Hi Sonia ... big fan since I saw you on a Steveo vid awhile back. Love the vid. So cool. Love your music choices. Recommend to list the artists for our further enjoyment. I look forward to the next video. Cheers.
Alaska is beautiful but also deadly. More pilots die there than anywhere else and trying to fly VFR into small holes is probably one reason why. Glad you made it safe and sound.
I've never done VFR on top. Seems like it would be nerve racking...Scary to see the white mountain tops barely visible through the clouds when you are trying to get down. Beautiful scenery though!
There's a large number of women who have come forward complaining of James' inappropriate behavior toward female aviators. I hope you were safe while filming this, and after. Read here: www.reddit.com/r/flying/comments/hufao5/female_aviators_beware?sort=confidence
I can't tell you how much I love sonikhanem's choice of background music. It's the reason she's my second fav general aviation youtube poster.
Thanks for sharing this. It makes me homesick being born in AK and growing up there as a child. That’s where I got my passion and love for flying
Sonia...You nailed the music in this video!!! I can't stop watching...

Very nice. Your facial expressions say it all!
Hi Sonia! Thanks for your latest and greatest videos! Always a pleasure to see what you've been up to!
Best wishes from France, Rich X

As usual, wonderful story, great visuals, and perfect music. Her editing just keeps getting better.
Scott Cook still so much room for improvement! Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant. Enjoyed the scenery and lost myself in 15 minutes of relaxation.

That was Awesome!
I bet cool snow-cap mountain scenery beats Miami's heat & humidity!
I just flew out of Valdez two days ago. It's a much sleepier airport without an airshow. 😊
In response to your Instagram post, yes I have seen the full video. But I'll gladly swipe up and watch it again. 😅🤙🏽
El Trotter lmfao. This made me crack up.
Great video and editing, loved the music too, perfect. Wow, looking for a hole in the clouds, and you didn't look at all worried..lol. You better get that life insurance in place, you'll have to pay an up-charge for the aviation coverage, but it's worth it.
That's a whole lot different than flying southern Florida with SteveO - those mountains look risky! great video
Hi Sonia ... big fan since I saw you on a Steveo vid awhile back. Love the vid. So cool. Love your music choices. Recommend to list the artists for our further enjoyment. I look forward to the next video. Cheers.

Here I come Valdez Alaska
Beautifully )))
Soo goood soo nic
Good fly
"sigh" how I miss Alaska, lived there in 2002 but had to move back to brooklyn, ny :(
Hello! Great video just like the rest of them! However, Port of Valdez is pronounced (Val-dehz) short e, despite what everyone thinks.
Hi Sonia hanım , always nice to watch you.
Greetings from Türkiye.
Just curious, do you own a plane ? If not which plane(s) you would like ?

I'm sure you guys were doing this, but keep an eye on your fuel in case you couldn't find a hole and needed to backtrack a very long way to land VMC.
