    I only subscribed a few weeks ago,. . and I was Stunned to find out in later vids that Jaime was NOT a pilot herself !,. . .her Comms skill ability is Great. . .a natural with the radio and ATC. . . Flying in the USA is on my bucket list. . .such a huge country. . . .Thank you for your work folks. . . . Jim.

      She's a natural with radio and ATC because she IS an Air Traffic Controller (so is he). They work in Chicago TRACON (the departure/arrival ATC for their airport). That's why, if you notice in some of their vids, they are sometimes fairly casual when talking to them.

    Awesome. Great video as usual. The autopilot is definitely a must have for safety. Great job Jaime!

      Thank you Mark! It's pretty amazing how capable but simple it is. That was honestly our first flight doing that with no other discussion and she was able to do it all herself on the second one. Of course we will continue with all the other possible variables but I think it will get the discussion going with other pilots and their non-flying spouses. :)

    • @MC-rh3fc
      @MC-rh3fc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And that is exactly where Christine and I are. We’ve been discussing that exact scenario. I suggested she complete an online private pilot ground school which she will likely do. Your video really shows how a digital autopilot will allow the non-flying spouse to make it to a runway without having to hand fly the bird. That is critical. Task saturation is an understatement if they have to hand fly, talk on the radio, maintain altitude and airspeed, and find a runway, for the FIRST time. Jaime was very calm and capable all because of the digital autopilot. Guess what just moved up the priority list. After all SAFETY first! Thanks again for continuing to “show” the aviation community the hows and whys of your equipment.

      Great video. Wife has the bug to get her ppl. Don’t know if you’ve answered this, but what type of headset does Jaime use. I just upgraded to a Lightspeed from a DC. Looking for the wife.

    Every pilot should take the time to do this ! My wife and I have worked out a procedure she can follow for incidents in the air and at home for intruders etc.. I hope she never needs it, but if she does... GREAT video Kevin. Jaime did a nice job ! I don’t recall ever seeing a video on this, so you guys may never realize how many families you helped with this. Safe skies guys ! 🇺🇸🛫

    Only thing I would add to that is to have them declare an emergency and explain that they have been briefed as to the plan and is on autopilot so control doesn’t try to screw up your carefully planned procedure.
    The emergency declaration would clear the way for them as you know, and that way they don’t have to worry about traffic. Just get the plane on the ground as your emergency plan has been laid out for them.
    That would also alert ground crews to be ready for you when you get down. EMT’s to tend to you and fire crews to attend to the plane if necessary. Just my thoughts 😊

  • @karlfair
    @karlfair 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great job, guys. This was one of your best episodes. Practicing emergency procedures before an emergency is the best way to make sure the procedures will work. A suggestion, print the checklist in an oversized and easy to read font with double spaced lines. In a real emergency, it will make it easier to get through the steps with out making a mistake. We use circle, slash for place keeping on procedures.
    BTW, Jamie seems to always drive her own car. Doesn't she trust your driving?

    Clow International: 588 nm from my home airport. Whew. Too far. Very interesting video. Just keep a cheat sheet in the glove box and she's good to go. Flow chart of the approach procedures, tach numbers, gear and flap procedures, auto pilot off, power and flare, then mixture to cutoff. Piece of cake. Great job both of you. Looking forward to the next one.

    Kevin, there used to be 50-60 Ultralights at Wheatland Air Field back in the early 80’s (SE corner of Rt. 30 and Rt. 34). Saturday morning a bunch would land at Clow for breakfast. I've been up there several times and we flew up there twice in the past. Beautiful area and our flight was pretty scenic. That's just my opinion lol. We always, when Melissa and I fly, recite the statement......fail to plan, plan on failing. It's our way going through and practicing various situations that could possibly occur during a flight. Just like what you and Jaime did. It's a reassuring feeling.

    Kevin, Nice job on the video. Jamie excellent job on the approach "nailed it". This is probably something everyone should talk to about anyone they fly a lot with. Unfortunately I don't have a sweet auto pilot. But at least I can work on some kind of emergency get it on the ground plan. So far my wife and girls haven't been too open to handling the controls but I will continue to work on it. I now have a engine bolted back on my plane, just have a 2 to 3 hour break-in test flight and then back to some regular flying. Thank you guys for all the hard work you guys put into these videos. This channel has rapidly become my favorite. I would like to say I would try for a meet up down in Oshkosh but I don't think it is in the cards for me this year. Just too busy. Dear Kevin and Jamie, very happy to see this video and I hope that you will practice fairly frequently. What a good video. Especially that you two have children, family and friends that fly with you. If Kevin ever becomes incapacitated due to whatever reason, (doesn't have to be death) Jamie will have the confidence and ability to take the bird down safely. Without any doubt, with very little practice, Jamie could land that plane on the ground and bring it to a complete stop safely. Well done! Be well!

    Good looking lunch patio,... IF ya ever get to Grants Pass Oregon Airport and it is warm, get a ride to Galice and try a Burger at the restaurant next to the river........ look for it on You Tube, . ya might want to float the river and fish some Salmon too then fly the coast for the view. Just a thought and a very pleasant area.

    Absolutely essential for any family to know and to practice. In flight emergency health issue may not happen often but they can and do on occasion. I would strongly encourage any pilot with a non pilot wife to at least practice the basics from time to time to keep the procedures fresh in their mind. You just might save a life or lives. Thanks for a great video of how it can be done. Of course planes not as well equipped might take a little more knowledge but that should be no factor in teaching wives or perhaps children the basics. Great Job.

    So cool ! Clow airport is where my parents learned to fly back in the late 70’s and later bought an Grumman traveler then a Tiger. It has changed a lot down there. My uncle had a body shop at Clow back I gotta the day. I happen to notice the right fuel gauge bouncing a bit maybe normal but just something I noticed. You guys are great and love watching your videos. Wally Smith from Naperville 😉👍👍❤️🍀🍀

      Howdy Wally from nearby! It's hard to believe they allowed them to build houses that close to the runway that has been there for that long. These old fuel gauges are notorious for acting like that. I have a digital fuel computer on my engine monitor that is very accurate. One of these days I plan to modernize my fuel gauges. :)
