It’s shocking how so many police operators are so rude and uncooperative to people who are in shock and are traumatised... literally so many calls like this one

The officer that took her call literally made me so angry. I get he has a job but that woman was distraught and the way he talked to her made me feel so helpless omg 😢😢

This devasted woman who has discovered, at that point, four dead bodies. She has witnessed gruesome scenes and she is obviously beside herself. He did not attempt to calm her or console her or speak NICELY at all. He was a rude git and for what. I understand he needs to know what happened but there's a way to talk to people and I'm sure as an emergency line operator, he's been taught what to say and how to say it

When I heard that he was jealous of his brothers success , failed at his own work , lived so close and that he was up unusually early, I was like: that’s him. Robert fuckin killed them.

When she said he used to be an ENT in China. Usually a sense of very low self esteem overwhelms you when you suddenly lose your status.
I know Brenda through mutuals as she went to a school near me. This story is horrifying. She is doing well and has started her new life years ago. She has a beautiful dog and graduated 2 or so years ago. She is so so strong.

I feel so bad for Brenda. She was sexually assaulted by the person who killed her entire family and she had to live with that same person while she was mourning the loss of her beloved family. I really can't imagine dealing with sth like that. I really hope she's doing okay and is somewhere safe.

Yup, and not even just one of them in a spur of the moment decision. It was calculated, he shut off the power, pre bought a weapon where there were no cameras, killed them all 1 by 1, even the children. Makes me feel so sick and sad

Yeah I mean, if I walked in on a scene like that, I wouldn't be poking around every single room to make sure every body was there, one look would have been enough to make my stomach turn. I think "I don't know" is a very fair response to have, like considering she saw the rest of the family she can probably assume that he would have been dead there too, but because she didnt see him she said idk. That operator was so rude. Like I get that "idk" is a vague response, but he could have gotten the information he wanted with a better question rather than just repeating the same one and being rude about not getting a yes or no answer. Like ask instead, "did you see his body?", that way she could say no, but it would still leave the possibility that his body was there and she just didnt see it
@@MadMaddi21 I agree. At first I was confused by the “I’m not sure” but it totally makes sense she obviously is in no condition to go and examine all the bodies to identify if he is there. Poor woman. I just wish she had not defended her husband so much but in case he was freed she probably didn’t want him to go after her for not supporting him %100. Idk.
From what I’ve heard u couldn’t even recognise them that’s how bad it was. The operator didn’t even let that girl breath.
I think it kind of speaks to the goriness of the scene that she wasn't sure.
My partner was in jail for a few years, and his cell mate was originally cellmates with Robert Xie for a while, and apparently he still maintains his innocence and convinced Cathy that he was wrongly convicted.
Deserves to be locked up forever since he shows absolutely no remorse.

It was definitely a mistake having Brenda move into Robert’s home so quickly. And when they started to suspect him as being involved, the police didn’t take Brenda out of the house right away, they set up cameras. Wtf so much trauma could have been prevented...

ngl, the operator seemed very racist t me. he could clearly tell she was of an asian background cause of her accent and so there is a language barrier. there's a certain way racists talk to people who don't have the best English; in a very condescending and patronising manner. then there's the addition of him just being rude all together cause she's clearly in shock.

@@b.5795 it was literally just an opinion and the vibe that the original commenter picked up. Personally, I also picked up that energy from the operator. He wasn't taking her very seriously and was very hostile to her despite the clear state of shock/trauma. There is definitely a specific way that racists talk or interact with people which feels degrading. His tone was exactly the same tone that I hear when direct racist attacks/comments are made.

I went to primary school with them and they really were so lovely and sweet to everyone. It made my blood boil that justice wasn’t being served and we were all so sad and frustrated. We were just relieved when it finally was.
It's better they go through 4 trials and successfully convict him. If they don't follow all rules and procedures he might be acquitted on a technicality
he was sentenced to 5 life sentences at the end, bail means that you're released until your next trial date not that you get off scot-free.

As someone who’s parent had a heavy japanese accent, that was absolutely aggravating when that operator was asking her stupid questions when she was clearly in shock and scared. “Is there a body” isn’t the most important question when there’s clearly no one left alive in the house

Nah, the operator was trying to ascertain a situation, and she didn't make sense. It was made worse though because at that time she couldn't see her brother's body.

I have never had such a visceral reaction to an emergency call, oh my gosh. My whole face got hot with anger. That was truly atrocious. As someone who has had to call 9-1-1 before, I would have been absolutely horrified if the operator responded to my situation in that way. I was already traumatized and shaking and upset. I'm so glad there was someone kind and empathetic on the other end.

I literally cannot BELIEVE the nerve of the 000 operator. "Don't say quick" - are you kidding me?! Imagine being panicked and begging 000 to come quickly to help and being told this!! I hope the operator lost his job or at the bare minimum was incredibly reprimanded. So disgusting and not something you can just blame on being frustrated or "having a long day". You are in a profession dedicated to directly assisting people in their most vulnerable moments of panic.

I believe the main reason was jealousy. His brother-in-law had everything he always wanted wich was success. The whole family moved to another country but only Min succeded. His frustration and jealousy drove him mad.

Not sure about NSW but in Victoria, there has been reform in the supreme court (?) that wigs would be abolished in order to allow for the parties to feel comfortable while in court pursuing their case.

28:39 when you said it was bc of jealously, I felt like that was 99% the motive because most asians are extremely jealous of someone else’s success. They would only want them and their own family to be on them. Even if someone in their extended family is better than them at something, they will still want to try and take them down. It’s like a competition. If someone is lower than them, then they make fun of them or push them down even more. If someone is higher than them, then jealously happens and a hatred forms. I speak about this from experience of my own family and asian coworkers. This is very real.

the operator needs to be fired :/ “is your brother in the house” “I’m not sure” is a perfectly fine response??? he was being so rude for what? he could probably tell immediately that she is foreign, and should have been more patient and understanding with her. the fact that he was raising his voice just makes me so angry because we can all tell how panicked she sounded
I understand that dispatchers have a hard job but that is no excuse for being a revolting prick especially towards someone who is clearly traumatised and frazzled.

After finished watching this, I feel so grateful that I had a really good childhood, despite some ups and downs in my family, but definitely not something horrible like this. I also did not know what kind of person I would become if I had to go through such a painful and horrifying experience like her. I just wanna say how brave she is and her case would always remind me to be grateful and to be a kind person. I would like to give her a big hug!
btw brenda studied criminology for her masters, and if her linkedin is updated, she's a research assistant that researches on criminology, crime prevention, criminal and youth justice. what happened to her was really tragic, but it's good to know that she's directing her energy towards improving the justice and crime prevention system in her country.
