this is a really good point - all or some of the people who attended the party would have seen Carrie there, right? So even if they didn't know what happened to her - or if they knew EXACTLY what happened to her - were they protecting the perpetrator?

The best friend’s brother (John Mann) had real motive to confess to the party- it would have been a good defence for him. I’m surprised he kept it secret. It makes me wonder if he and others helped hide her body, thinking they would all get in trouble.

It’s a lot more common than most realize. They’ll either become good friends with the family or try to become part of the case by way of assisting police. In reality, they’re just trying to keep a close eye on information provided to both parties. Disgusting behaviour, regardless.

There’s absolutely zero chance that no one saw him dragging a dead body outside, digging a grave & burying her! Also, I truly hope that Carries spirit really was haunting the shit out him. I’d love to believe she basically solved her own murder.
My thought was that they had weed, it would be quite reasonable to smoke at the backyard. In the front there would be the possibility of someone seeing them, inside you have the problem with the smell so the backyard makes sense the most. He couldn’t be the only one out there the entire night. Also she wasn’t burried deep, people didn’t noticed for an entire year??

Even if I didn’t want to get into trouble by admitting I had a party I wasn’t meant to, when something like this has happened and I have also been questioned as a suspect I’d definitely mention the party and deal with those consequences with my parents later. Anything to proclaim my innocence if I really am innocent.

It’s extremely suspicious that a guy who wasn’t even friends with her, suddenly after her death becomes extremely close with the family. He was guilty and trying to “fix” it by being through the grieving process. Absolutely disgusting.

How did no one in the Mann Family notice the freshly covered dirt patch with decaying smell in their backyard? No one thought that was weird? You can’t tell me the mom or sister Robin didn’t notice that or think it’s odd. I think a lot of people were involved and covering this up.

So it took José 45 minutes to bury her body, but Carrie’s mom went across the street after about an hour to see if her daughter was there???? Wouldn’t she have seen a party going on if the timelines were that close? And how would you keep groups and groups of teenagers silent about a party that happened midday on a school day? News flash: you don’t. Something is not adding up.

I‘m a bit confused, Carrie got suspended around lunchtime and then on her walk home she noticed the Party and went there? First of all, why weren‘t the other kids at the party at school and second of all, why did no one else saw her attending the party? And if her mother went to Robin‘s house to look gor her why didn‘t she notice that there was a party? Especially after all the neighbors went to search for Carrie, why did none of the adults ever notice anything regarding the party? Seems really weird to me and makes me think that there wasn‘t a party. In a quiet, close community someone had to notice some loud music or a lot of people going in and out of the house, hadn‘t they?
maybe they saw the party not connected to the case, as the mother was there and hadn't find her... probably because of drugs or something like that (if they e.g. provided minors with alcohol, the whole neighbourhood might have gotten in serious trouble, if this was a common thing there). So they probably just... omitted it... because at that time, the child was only lost, not dead (or at least in their eyes). And later it would be suspicious to suddenly tell there was actually a party and nobody mentioned it...
Like it sounds stupid now, but I can imagine such stupidity may happen, esp. when they didn't know how serious the case could be.
I don’t think there was a party. I think John and Jose were hanging out and they killed her either by accident or on purpose and then buried her.
I don’t get it... if he said that other people had seen him and Carrie together at the party, why didn’t anyone else who was at this ‘party’ mention him to the police? What about this party was such a huge secret that a girl could go missing, turn up dead and make people STILL say the party didn’t happen? I definitely think there’s more to his story. Also has me wondering if this mysterious party did in fact take place, but maybe there was some shady stuff happening that’s making people who were there be hush hush about it. And if that’s the case then I don’t think he’s the only one who knew about her murder. I just feel sorry for Carrie and her family, they took this man into their midst thinking he had good intentions. Sometimes we never really know what evil is lurking in our very presence. What a truly despicable human.

@@user-huntr Given that more people mentioned the house party, I do think it was an actual thing. I think that everyone there were just kids and most were probably scared of getting in trouble so they didn’t say anything. It does however sound like more people were involved or at least saw something.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s weird at all if a kid goes missing and their parent pours a concrete slab in the yard, to think that it might be related. I would absolutely report that, too. We don’t know what goes on in the house, and if a kid is missing we only have the parents word to take for it. Fresh concrete and a missing person always rings alarm bells. I’m glad that person didn’t just ignore it, even though it didn’t turn out to be anything.

Came here to say that! Also, stepkids are much more likely to be hurt, abused and killed by their stepparents. They were absolutely right to investigate the stepdad.

That's amazing Layla! You go, girl! I studied psychology and law because back then i didnt have access to a criminal psychology course. But i never went anywhere with it because life kind of got in the way lol. Make sure you keep focused, don't be dissuaded when you get to any difficult parts, just keep your eye on the ball and have faith in your ability. You're going to do great things. Honestly I'm a little envious, or rather, regretful that my career in that industry didn't go anywhere. So I'm living vicariously through you, Layla lol.

Daytime parties we did them all the time when I was a teen
it may of been a hangout or skip off, where you go to a friends house during school hours and drink. So it was not a party but a hang out during school hours.

Ok so here is my theory :
In Carrie Ann’s autopsy, they found that she had neck injuries and also probably internal hemorrhage to the brain (Her autopsy report cited internal bleeding inside her skull from head and neck injuries). This type of injuries can be cause due to car accidents or falls (it can be possible that she was indeed pushed by Jose). BUT due to circumstances surrounding the alleged house party and how this occurred at Robin and John’s house yet somehow no one saw anything I beg to differ.
Strangulation can also cause both neck injuries and internal bleeding to the brain. (Blunt injuries to the neck may also occur due to non-accidental injury (strangulation) or hanging) + (pressure on the jugular veins may cause a back up of oxygen-deficient blood in the brain, resulting in the rupture of internal blood vessels and lack of oxygen to the brain.)
So my theory is that Carrie Ann was on her way to her house after being suspended. On the way, John Mandt may have seen her passing by and invited her over his house with Jose. Maybe she was lured under the pretext that Robin (her best friend) was in the house as well. So, I believe it was not a “house party”with lots of people. It was more like John and Jose were partying at his house ( by partying I mean drinking and possibly smoking weed / doing drugs). They both liked Carrie Ann, so they lured her to the basement, maybe got her to drink and smoke with them. Once she was drunk they sexually assaulted her. And one of them, decided to strangulate her while assaulting her (to try erotic asphyxiation maybe ?) and killing her. Or maybe she threatened to tell about the SA and again one of them decided to manually strangulate her and kill her. They both decided to bury her in the garden under the deck and never to speak of this get together, deny any involvement until Jose decided to confess. But why did he take the blame 33 years later? And why would he lie about what happened ? Was he threatened by John to confess? Is John’s family protecting him and using Jose as a scapegoat? Why did Robin’s ex bf say she told him John confessed to Carrie Ann’s murder ?
And if there was in fact a house party could the murder had happened before the other party goers arrived ? Which would explain why no one saw anything?
Yes I was thinking exactly the same thing! I think it was Jose who killed her, but I believe John was involved. I don't know why Jose wouldn't admit that John was involved though.

Unfortunately I believe this was a sexually motivated murder :/ it’s so sad for her family to never have the full version of events. I wonder how John’s parents or sister never smelt her body decomposing, it’s not like she was 20 feet under ground, her body was hidden under the some sort of deck in the garden, that would surely cause odors… this case is so bizarre

However I just saw a case, I don’t remember if it was Brooke McKenna who discussed the case of this guy who flushed down the toilet flesh/body parts from his victim and had to call the plumber to fix it and he called police when finding the fleshy substance. Maybe they thought they wouldn’t have to dig to deep or at all? Or maybe they thought they wouldn’t notice the body since it had been almost two years, idk.

The teenagers denied the party happened because they were doing illegal drinking and drugs, and a girl's dead body was found in the garden of the house the party was at. Bella didn't cover much about it, but this wasn't a cult, or cultlike.

He definitely didn't do it alone,there had to be people at that party who either helped or witnessed this.
This has me thinking how they ruled Jose out as a suspect when he was guilty the whole time. Makes me think about how many other cases the real murderer is just ruled out as a suspect completely 😳
This happened in a case in Brittan years ago, a bloke murdered two young school girls, (he and his misses both teachers) he from their school and helped search and give interviews of "grief" all the whilst he knew exactly where they were and what happened to them.

You constantly hear reference to previous times i.e. the 80s in this case and people say 'oh they were so trusting' and you could leave your door open and your kids walk home from school. But that's *precisely why* these things were happening, when people became aware of the dangers, closed their doors and supervised their kids more closely then such events plunged in frequency.
Yeah and anxiety is on all time high because everybody nowadays worries about every single thing. Everything has its ups and downs.
I had saved a picture of I think twitter post and comment that goes:
A: Once someone was like "millenials don't answer a door if they aren't expecting anyone???" and I get why the 70s had so many serial killers.
B: Now I can't help but imagine a 60 year old serial killer at a millenial's door waiting, mad as f***, checking his watch, and leaving out of frustration and writes a blog post about how millenials are ruining this country.

I’m not sure where you are getting your information. But you are far more likely to be a victim of crime today. While people are locked behind closed doors, cameras everywhere etc. the crimes you a mentioning still take place. It’s not like the statistics have gone down because we don’t trust people anymore. We just hear about these cases from a time when “everyone was more trusting” because it’s shocking.
Crimes today aren’t reported on the same anymore. If you listen to these types of cases that are happening today with the following line added to the narrative: in these times when people are far less trusting. The crime still happened with all the precautions that are in place.
I’m just saying we don’t look at them the same way. A different lens might be on the crimes now. The perspective has changed but violent criminals have not.
People keep their doors locked now. Home invasions happen instead. People don’t let their kids walk or play alone. Internet crimes from predators now take place.
The crimes haven’t stopped. Just the way they are committed has changed.
I just Googled this (I’m a child of the 80’s it did seem a simpler time) and you’re right the murder rates in the 80’s and even more so in the 90’s we’re incredibly high
I have so many questions!! If she was pushed down the stairs, how was there no physical evidence? None? No blood, no hair, nothing? I know that DNA testing was in the early stages then, but what? Also, I feel like the whole, "I didn't want my wife to divorce me so I'm confessing" shtick is such a red herring. It's probably because he knew that they only had circumstantial evidence (that's why he stuck so close to the family) and he could get a plea deal for a lighter sentence. I’m guessing because being pushed down stairs doesn’t do much damage. Not enough to like make a bloody mess. Maybe enough to create scrapes and bruises but I don’t know
After a year I doubt there would be any forensic evidence to find and certainly not after 33 years.
@@Baldjotarokujo Falling (pushed or otherwise) downstairs can do a lot of damage just not like, in terms of blood. Falling downstairs can break your neck. She probably hit just right that it knocked her out but she didn't leave any blood or suspicious hair evidence. I don't think she was dead yet if she died due to brain bleed, but she was dead by the time he buried her. I think maybe if emergency services had been phoned she might have survived, but then again, nobody wanted to admit there was a party going on so... she probably would have still died anyway. I think there was time between her fall and him burying her that he just left out. He probably hid her body in something in the basement until he could take her out and bury her and she died jammed in a cupboard or something.
I don't know where Bella or anyone would get the idea he confessed to prevent a divorce. I feel like that would only make her wanna divorce him faster.

This case may be solved but I don't think that it's fully solved. They were yet so many questions and weird circumstances with the alleged confession of Jose. First, why did nobody noticed Jose burying the body of Carrie in broad daylight? Like what you've said, it's a tight town where everybody knows everybody but still, nobody hears or saw that moment. Second, I believe that somehow John is involved with this. Maybe he helped him disposed of her body and that is why nobody had witnessed anything? And maybe that is why he vomitted when they saw her remains in their backyard? The party I believe was meant to be a secret since drugs and alcohol were involved and to think that they were still minors at the time and maybe that is why they need to keep quiet about it. Third, why did Jose only confessed after 33 years? Is it really the truth or it is something like a show to him?
This case is confusing and sad because we don't get to know what really happened with Carrie. We only have Jose's words but can we really believe his statement? It's so unnerving especially the part that Jose grieved with Carrie's family like nothing happened, like he did nothing wrong with her. What a frustrating case it is! But my prayers goes for Carrie's soul and her family. 🙏
I don't believe a word of his story. Carrie's mom went to their house that night, she would have seen the party. My guess he is mentally ill, and his life was falling apart.
Bringing john into this is pretty sick. Why you would assume he would be involved is beyond me he probably threw up because he felt sick. If jose felt the need to confess he would have also mentioned john as well if john was involved as this would have diminished his sentence possibly

Yeah, how come none of the people at the party ever caved in and admitted there was one and who was there. The police would've had a pool of suspects to interview. What really happened at that party 🤔

I find it hard to believe that Jose is solely responsible for Carrie's death, i think it was both him and John. Jose's explanation of carrie's death is inconsistent with the medical examiner's findings. I think perhaps he knew it was a neck/head related injury but twisted it to a fall on the stairs to make the death seem like an accident. Also, for both of them to have such extreme reactions to the body is strange. John vomiting and Jose's dramatic cry are both unusual (although, understandably, not impossible for an innocent person). But John seems suspicious to me - he lawyered up, vehemently denied the party happened for DECADES (like sure he may have lied about it as a kid to avoid getting in trouble, but later on I don't see why he would deny that it happened) and also the alleged romantic advances he made on Carrie, which is also mirrored in Jose's confession.
But why would Jose only turn himself in? As you said in the video, confessing to a 33-year old murder is an extremely odd way to 'save' a divorce. Maybe he was doing to show that he would stand by his wife no matter what (like he may be doing with his friend John). But if so, I don't see why his ex-wife wouldn't mention John. But even more compelling to me is the fact he never told Carrie's family. I think he was silent all those years because he was protecting himself AND John. I think he had some guilt and hence, he joined in with the mourning as a release of that guilt. But i think he never took responsibility back then because he was shielding everyone from John's involvement.
Sure, Jose could just be a narcissistic psychopath who was solely guilty of the crime, but the confession seems off. If the medical examiner is right, then Jose's confession is a lie. Just my theory, but as always incredible video!
I imagine john vomited because a dead body was found in his yard. Not only would her death have been a terrible shock - as he knew the girl - it was also in his yard which would make him prime suspect. I'd probs be sick too. I dont think there is any reason for jose to hide johns involvement...if it was John, he would've found a different spot to bury the body - & not in a shallow grave in his yard.
Side note let's try not to demonize people for lawyering up right away - innocent people get pinned for crimes they didn't commit due to interrogation tactics or police wanting to close a case, especially if they have any sort of mental or social disability.
That being said, everything else is very odd that you mention.

I totally understand why someone would get a lawyer in a situation where they feel like they may need one and I think a great part of any justice system is that if you don’t want to answer questions, you’re entitled to a lawyer and your own silence. It was just that he got a lawyer immediately in combination with the other points I made that made it seem suspicious.
Just my thoughts, I also believe that John was somehow involved, if only in burying the body
I was born in 1975. I grew up in the 80s and early 90s. We were free. And the thing is, we never had fear of strangers. And seems today, we're still more likely to be harmed by people we already know. And while I still won't give my sons the same freedoms I had growing up, not much has actually changed. 💔 Rest in peace, Carrie.

Yes i agree in general. People have been programmed to fear everyone and that was exacerbated by the ridiculous lockdown and pand3m1c. It's so sad to realise that my daughter who was born in 1996 was the last generation to be "free,". Children are kept from being children now, they're exposed to grown up things too soon via the Internet etc. It's so sad. But i doubt it will get any better. We're being taught to have less, do less and be "happy" with it. Can't remember the politician who said that but that's the agenda and it's working.

Carrie's ghost haunted him his entire life. I bet she's still haunting him now. The only good thing is that he confessed. Otherwise, her family will keep wondering and never get closure.
How did Carrie’s killer only get seven years?! smh. There are lesser crimes that people have to serve way more than seven years for. I don’t feel like justice was served for Carrie at all. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones. Rest in peace Carrie. 💗
The only reason this case was solved at all is that he chose to confess. He wouldn't have spent a day in jail if he had continued to keep quiet about what he did. People who confess to murders they're not even suspected of having committed are very often given light sentences, because they're punished for confessing, not for the murder, if that makes sense? No confession, no jail time.

if carrie walked home around lunch, what house party was happening midday in the daylight… on a school day??? couldn’t the police verify that there were multiple teenagers not at school? or if the party wasn’t until that night, where was she for the few hours until it got dark?
And if the party was at night, Carrie’s mom would have noticed it when she went to the neighbors to look for Carrie, right?
Something definitely doesn’t add up.

I’m still super co fused with this case though. Carrie was sent home from school after lunchtime. She lives three minutes from the school. At that time this mysterious party was going on? But also at night? But also nobody noticed? But also all the other kids were still in school? Huh?
Did she go to the neighbors house because she was afraid to face her parents, just hung out, they hid her, then at night the party happened and she just stayed around?

My theory would be that the two boys alone, no party, saw her and decided to take the shot at trying to seduce her, possibly with a joint. She accepted the joint bc of the bad day she had and then they tried to get her in the basement. After pushing her down the stairs she still refuse to do anything or was unconscious and they tried to do something to her and that’s when they banged her head with or against something that killed her. Realized their mistake and buried her.

I kinda giggled a little bit about the quiet Milwaukee area thing just because I finished up with watching Dahmer not too long ago and he's from there 😬.. that put Milwaukee on the map for me being a Canadian. what a crazy story! I can't believe he's out!
while there are parts of milwaukee that struggle with crime because of poverty and racial segregation (milwaukee is the most segregated city in the us) dahmer was an outlier.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and I’ve never heard of this case, so thank you for covering. I can’t decide if he was truly confessing to get his wife back, because clearly that makes no sense. But either way he’s not telling the whole truth. In any case I’ve ever heard where there’s stairs involved, I remember it being said that the likelihood of a fall causing someone’s death is extremely rare. I truly wish this man wasn’t walking free in my home state. Disgusting

He ingratiated himself with Carrie's family to find out how far the police were getting with the investigation or to pretend to be heartbroken to prove his innocence should he become a suspect or simply because he was getting a kick out of seeing Carrie's family suffer.
This is absolutely nuts cause not too long ago I saw a news article of a guys getting 7 years in prison for have heroine or something similar, and this guy got 7 years of sexual assault?!
Yeah the "Justice" system doesn't care if you're innocent or guilty and at what lvl. Pretty insane and maddening.

It's so messed that he only got seven years for the murder he committed. Our justice system is seriously screwed up. I don't think it was an accident at all. He knew exactly what he did and he snapped after she changed her mind. Its absolutely disgusting that he grew close to her family knowing all along what he did to her.
