Thanks for checking out the video! Heads up: I've been streaming more often over at twitch.tv/nintendrew_ . Come say hi!
Can you stream on TH-cam as well? I don't have Twitch

Do I need an account for twitch
YT is just better
TH-cam is the greatest inspiration of the internet 🙌 🎥😊
As much as it's joked about... once I head the reasoning behind the N64 Controller's "3-Grip-Design", I've actually found it incredibly genius ever since.
Can you believe when the N64 came out, PlayStation didn't even have an analog stick. They were still using a d-pad. It's crazy to think about how revolutionary the N64 controller was. It doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Totally unmentioned here is the prototype lightgun attachment. Plug a IR attachment into the memory card slot and now simply hold the pad by the centre grip and it worked like a wiimote, never got an official release tho
@@lukebrady65 agreed
@@SumnerTube21It is NOT a memory card slot it is an expansion slot because it takes more than storage devices.
@@nathanmead140 your telling the person who was talking about an expansion device.
If you think referring to it as the memory card port makes everything wrong I can only assume your still a child
Man, Those lodgenet controllers are an absolute time warp for me. I remember the hotels, the menus, the music.
1:35 SNES games weren't cheap either. One of my core memories is working my butt off to save for Street Fighter II Turbo which was $90 only to have my dad make me throw it away a couple months later when he went on an "anti-video game violence" kick.
Please tell me you put him in the nursing home after that
Ouch!
@@alchemistofsteel8099real
Did he pay you back the $90?
@@dreamworldtony I would’ve taken it from his goddam wallet, one $10 or $20 at a time, over the course of several weeks. If he didn’t want his kids to play “violent” games anymore (do fighting games come any more tame than early SF?), fine, but you don’t do that to a kid after they’ve worked their ass off to save up for something. It’s not right, and you might discourage them from ever working towards anything again. If he wanted it out of the house, he should have given the kid full MSRP or a game of equal or greater value.
Wow, I remember lodgenet. I just aged myself there haha, loved this video!!!
I remember using the lodgenet n64 in a hotel once like about 10 years ago. I wonder if some hotels have it or not
It was neat to meet you at the recent convention you went to near me! I was the big awkward guy in the Pizza Tower shirt lol.
Nintendo’s biggest mistake with the N64 was sticking with cartridges instead of switching to CDs, because it’s one of the reasons their games were so expensive, which made Sony’s PlayStation vastly outsell the N64! Also I remember the N64 LodgeNet service in Lake Tahoe, I’ve played Mario Kart and Star Fox 64 with my cousins in the room! I do remember a GameCube service in Los Angeles Hilton, but I didn’t play it because it was too expensive and I already had a Game Boy Advance with me.
Seriously man, do you age at all; I could swear that Drew didn't age one day since I started watching his videos approximately 10 years ago ?! Thanks for all of the studious work; you make TH-cam relevant and humorous.
Oh man, i forgot about LodgeNet! i was at a hotel that had that feature & boy did i use it on that vacation. i failed to read the how much it was & just started playing! After the bill i don't think i used it again. Ha-Ha! N64 best thing that blew me away than other 3D video games was "No Load Time" due to it being a cartridge! 8x8 is N64 forever!
WAKE UP NINTENDREW JUST UPLOADED

Always loved me some fun N64 facts. Was a great honor to meet you at Corgscon this year by the way Drew! You are one cool dude!
Always great to see a new upload from ya Drew. I still remember to this day and age in the past. Where I would save up all of my allowance just to treat myself to a gameboy or snes/n64 game as a treat after two months of saving back then. Back when i used to get $10 a week for chores. good times. :)
I'll never understand why Nintendo 64 doesn't get as much love as it should get from fans
Agreed
I'm so happy your upload schedule has gotten back on track man, you're one of my favorite Nintendo TH-camrs
My brother and I got to use that hotel service while staying in Hawaii in October 2001. We didn't have an N64, and our tiny town didn't have a Blockbuster (and in turn, no Snap Station), so it was the first and only time I got to play "Pokemon Snap" until it came out on the Wii's Virtual Console.
Literally have been binging retro gaming content, glad to see you uploaded my dude!!! Much love
The N64 Is my favorite console
Same ❤
Oh my goodness. You hit some nostalgia bone for me talking about the hotel N64 controllers. I remember seeing those in every hotel room I would stay at when I was a kid. I would always ask my dad if he could rent a game out for me and my older brother and he would always say, "No, you already have a Nintendo at home. You can wait until then." Which as an adult now myself, I agree with that conclusion hahah!
Just like to say that i enjoyed your channel back in 2018. And no i am not saying that i hate you're new videos or anything. Just saying that after my Dad died thanks to drug overdose. And being Fatherless. But collecting old video games made me happy. And the N64 was my first gaming console. And i didn't grow up with the ps2 or Xbox. Since my family was poor. So after this i will subscribe to your channel. Thank you again for for being an inspiration to me. God bless.
I had no idea the Netscape ever approached Nintendo with a business deal. Great video as always!
anything you do about n64 is the best - thank you! great work been following you for years.
I remember staying at the Fantasy Land Hotel in the West Edmonton Mall we had a cool themed room where the kids bedroom had a hotel N64! It's one of my only times playing the N64 library to this day.
I love the N64 hotel controller
The 🐐 is back bois
Yay
Interesting. I don’t think I ever used the n64 controller in fps mode
007 supports dual analogue and widescreen on a N64 console itself
Did you also know the Lodgenet controllers have a Gamecube-style joystick? They can be modded to work on original hardware. I have two, one modded and one original. The modded one is my main controller for single-player games. It's definitely a conversation starter

The Economy was significantly Better and more stable in the 90s so inflation doesn't raise the cost of games it devalues it and Most Games drop Much cheaper a few months even weeks after launching as a tactic to reduce the lost of sales from rental stores who bought up the majority of early release copies the two Games I bought for more than $45 new out the big box stores was Donky Kong , it was a the console bundle with expansion pak and game all neon green , and pokemon Stadium with the Game card accessory thing , everything else was $45 or less including Zelda OoT
In the like 2006 or so, I stayed the night in a hotel with a n64 lodgenet. I played some OoT on it.
3:55 lol $29.99 removal fee seems worth it now for a rare 64 controller. You wanna play n64 for $7/h? No, but i want that controller for $30
It would have been nice to play n64 games in hotels and whatnot if i was in it's hayday.
1:50 this is a good point. Paying for a game 60 dollars today, while it may seem very high for a used game as it's around the same as new back then, the same price tag was significantly more valuable in the past compared to now.
I just recently got an N64 and have a question. I already have Perfect Dark (with the expansion pak) would Goldeneye be repetition? Or are they both distinctive enough to merit getting it?
The Single Player feels very different yet familiar but Multiplayer will feel very similar but Goldeneye was always my preference 😊
@@losttechwetlights7493 thanks!
Thanks as always for the awesome facts for the N64. Did not know they made a lodgenet GameCube version.
I remember seeing too many loquendo videos in 2010 complaining about the n64 controller
Love your stuff man
I've never been this early to a Nintendrew video!
5:09 Is there an example of a game where this mode was played?
Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and just about every single other FPS on the console.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark even allow you to use 2 controllers to play in full analogue mode
I haven't watched you in ages, you're still making great videos
Welcome back! 😁
You missed the 4th reason the N64 controller was that shape because some games you can play with a controller 1 in your left hand and controller 2 in right
what games could you do that with? that sounds really cool
@@Tailzy26 Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Sin and Punishment
Star Wars Episode 1 racers (had to enable it with a cheat)
Robotron 64
@@jonahlers1026 woah that’s cool!
N64 games were priced so high cause the cost of ram carts were much higher than cd's. The differently priced games were usually due to higher capacity ram carts costing more so larger games cost more to manufacture
Bought my n64 for $30 when I was 12 from a friend back in the day because he got a Xbox. I got goldeneye, Mario 64, both Zelda games, banjo kazoos, Star Fox, Mario kart, GameShark, and Pokemon stadium 1 for that 30$ Everyone was on the GameCube craze so I got even more n64 games dirt cheap at the time.
I saw that hotel N64 once, a very long time ago.
I'm still mad my parents never let me rent the hotel/motel video games. 😤
I remember these at too and was sad that my (grand)parents wouldn't let me play them either when I was a kid.
O wow, I didn't know the games where that expensive, so lucky 🍀 to have grew up with conkers!
Elfie from the movie. A Christmas Story has grown up. He's now a youtuber that talks about Nintendo Stuff.😂😂
Yay first! Great video always love learning new wierd facts
I didn’t know the n64 had plans for internet functionality.
Back in the day (i was a kid then) thats why we only bought n64 games we knew we loved and rented most from blockbuster!
I guess maybe everyone liked the N64 when it came out
Just my own personal theory, but I think the wide boy is why The N64 controller has that left handle and the D pad on that side
Short and sweet and weird.
YES NEW NINTENDREW VIDEO
The N64 games were even more expensive in other countries, after import duties.
I have been waiting since January 17th 2023 for a video on the photofast 4k gamer +
Fair facts knew all of these. But SNES Satelliview probably did things besides stream the game right or was that Sega's so it would be N64 Randnet/that game shown
I know Famicom was banking and other stuff. Intellivison/Coleco I forget which did it's online things where 2600 didn't get that out at the time. But wasn't radio competing a thing for early/mod 90s by Sega or Nintendo or was it only streaming the game to the Mega Modem or Sega Channel/Satelliview carts besides the yes Ethernet and Internet and Broadband and Dial Up like of late 90s/early 2000s. I forgot how far the Satelliview carts offered of just game streaming not multiplayer. But N64 it was multiplayer I know that besides the Randnet other services/apps/games with the 64DD.
N64 would be cheaper for other titles now but the chips and units were why they were that expensive. Right? Besides publishers pricing. But yes people forget carts versus disks or DS onwards differences of storage and chips.
Widebody would have been nice but yeah Devs only. The ethernet port game is fair for the time. Like many other options for the time.
Yep Hotel N64 controller like you showed years ago.
3 handles is fair. You don't need all inputs anyway. They didn't need to put 3 as they could have moved the stick but oh well and yeah d-pad focus as analogue stick was different besides the Neo Geo Pocket or Atari 2600 or Apple Trackball the different methods of those times being mouse or arcade stick like.
I'm even curious if N64 was the first Nintendo console with analog controls ?
Great N64 facts.😀👍🎮
Just a quick comment to say that I absolutely love channel. Keep up the great work.
I'm planning to buy an N64 console and this facts shows how potential had this console 🎉
oh yeah N64 costed over 120 DM back in Germany compared to PS games were mostly around 50 or max 60. PC games were even cheaper so you could get 2 PSX games for one single N64 game
I wonder where Segadrew is 😆
I'm always going to like the n64 controller, idc what anyone else says its great haha
Why does the analogue stick have a little hole in the centre in the original but no hole in the Nintendo Switch Online version?
How you get Shantae on your N64 ?? Curious minds??
Are the videos just going to be forever green screen now?
Had Nintendo slapped a CD drive on the system, the system would have been more expensive at launch, possibly more pricey than the Sega Saturn’s $399 price tag. It was either the games or the system itself that would have to bite the bullet, and ultimately the system itself would’ve been too steep compared to Sony’s much simpler PS1.
What is song at 0:26? Its driving me nuts I don’t remember it
Nintendo's reluctance to embrace the internet with their gaming is highly frustrating.
@1:54 Holy sh*t! 😮😮
I actually really like the N64 controller compared to the Xbox and PS2+ controllers. I could never get the hang of dual analog.
4:55 -- why are you using fake terminology? If you read the N64 user manual, it clearly states that the first way you're holding it in the video is "home position", the second way you're holding it in the video is "right position" and the third way you're holding it in the video is "left position". Why are you giving it nonsense names like 2D mode, 3D mode, and FPS mode? Did you never read an N64 user manual?
Im in the 1 hour club bois
Is there no way for the lodgenet controllers to work in today’s age?
Impressive
DA 🐓is gone FALL GUYS
NAY
why was this video shot on a green screen? are u moving or not have the same setup?
Nope. N64 not first for me. That stick aint first. Gotta give to sega saturn. At least in america i suppose. 3d control pad was mid 1996 too.
N64 in japan earliest was june 23 1996. But didnt come until September for US.
Now this is epic
Why would they make the Wideboy just to only make it available to the Press and developers? That doesn't make any sense.
Just watched the next 10 second why only press and devs were allowed to have it. Oof.
Nintendrew where did you get that controller the one in the thumbnail
Ebay, I believe! It's been a while haha.
Oh okay thank you
Yay❤
Хороший ролик. Мне понравился.👍🏿
I have not watched you in a while
Oh yeah, glad to see more people spreading the word about the left hand grip on the N64 controller. Once you try it, you won't want to play Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, or Sin & Punishment any other way, also great for Robotron 64. Having the D pad to move and the analog stick to aim it's almost like you're using modern controls. Only thing better is to connect two controllers and have one in each hand for guns akimbo
N64 TV remote
I broke my Steam Deck while playing Conker's Bad Fur Day
Drew why you in front of a greenscreen? Did you sell your collection? I can see the greenscreen through the mesh in your seat headrest.
820th view, Yay
Damn bro I remember your videos getting millions of views, sad you didn’t evolved I used to liked them
HE FINALLY UPLOADED SOMETHING🎉🎉
why u cut the beard off?? u look great in it!!
Most of these facts you already talked about before in thier own videos. Like you already talked about that N64 cartrige with the modem built in and the Wide Boy 64.
honestly all those 8-bit remixes of modern songs in your videos are so cringy
makes you look like those people wearing NES shirts
pretty underwhelming video from you in my opinion
you already talked about almost every fact on your channel (except for #2), and barely added any additional info
