I gotta say, this is one of the best compilations I've seen in a long time! Unlike other channels, that just lazily stitch together old videos, [often in a shoddy manner that doesn't quite work,] this actually has some care put into it. Of course, it helps that this video is not just a mere compilation, but more of a retrospective. A proper revisit to those past videos.
Funny story, I have a neighbor who had a box of old SNES games. He told me that if I wanted I could walk his dogs and take a game as payment. I looked in the box and saw Mega Man X3 and knew it's value from watching the top 5 rarest SNES games. I immediately contacted him and let him knew the value of the game and told him that it would be wrong to take the game for just simply walking his dog. He thanked for being honest with him and not taking advantage of him. A couple months later he told me that his driveway needed to be power washed and if I power washed his entire driveway then he'd give me Mega Man X3 as payment. A week of power washing later and I now had the new rarest game in my collection.
You had to do for an entire week. He got $500 labor, at least $200 if it was just a day. It isn't easy trusting a kid with a power washer. I am sure he is a good guy. He took a chance and it payed off.
@@chrisihrke1021 I'm 15 so not that much of a kid. It was 5 days and I worked for 6 hours a day. He has a HUGE driveway that connects to this big walkway the surround his entire house. But yeah he definitely got a great deal on that.
I think one of the reasons the Wii version of Dokapon Kingdom tanked in value is because of that enhanced port that came out on Switch and PC recently.
So part of the reason why Megaman X3's value is so high, in addition to relative numbers of copies sold, is that for a really long time it was highly resistant to both being emulated and working on reproduction or flash carts. Why is that? Because of two things: Capcom included a custom math coprocessor chip in each cart that expanded the capabilities of the SNES, similar to the SuperFX chip but more limited; and graphics in the game were stored in a unique compression format that needed to be decoded at runtime in order for them to be displayed correctly. Because of that, for a long time, the only way that you could play Megaman X3 (and X2) was on an original cart, on original hardware. That made it very valuable to collectors very early on, and its value is further retained by the fact that copies have at this point found themselves in collectors hands, collectors hesitant to part with them. The rest is inflation and um, the pandemic bump.
The video game version of when I see a trading card and say "You're paying for cardboard!" It's forking over a month's rent for what is just plastic, in the end.
Funny Story: I actually went to a retro games store today, and in one of the glass cases they had Complete in Box compies of both the European AND American copies of Tiny Toons: Buster's Bad/Scary Dreams. The European one (Buster's Bad Dream) was $90. Guess how much Scary Dreams costed? 450 DOLLARS.
Seeing some of these prices, makes me glad I long since switched to emulation of the older games... nearly $1,000 for Bonk on the NES is ridiculous and NOBODY but the eBay scalper is gonna make any money from that- not Nintendo or Hudson.
Nice to have a little compilation of these videos. It's definitely gonna be interesting to see what might be the rarest title when the Switch has its time of transition with how many small print run publishers like Limited Run and Super Rare Games there are to see which games are considered the rarest. It might have to be a far biggest list than just 5 titles lol
I'm currently working on a complete NA Wii U set, and I'm deliberately skipping the LRG releases because of their shady business practices. That and the fact that the majority of the games came out after the console was declared "dead" by the publisher.
A banger of a video. As soon as I got to the Animaniacs part I had to pause the video however. For some reason I vividly remember playing the game on the DS when I was younger. I could be mistaken it for the GBA version easily but for some reason I keep thinking it was on the DS. Could be my bad memory. Besides that amazing video. Time to go hunt for these games lol
Compilations, especially with updated info, seem like win-win situation. Doesn’t take as much effort as putting together the original videos, and viewers get updated info in a convenient package (plus seeing content they may have missed). I like it!
I think I'm not the only one who appreciates retro gaming even more now😂..sometimes the most shitty games are the most expensive so its not too much about the actual quality of the game itself so i`m just waiting for the day when superman for N64 and E.T. for Atari 2600 demands are increasing. cheers 👾👾
you would think a game that had the most impact on sinking an entire industry and then later buried in a desert would at least be a collectible, there are truly worse games out that are worth fortunes.
because there is almost no nostalgia attached to those games. So it is really just for hardcore collectors only. For some games on the other hand fan base might have increased compared to the time when the original game was released, so that will result into big price update. Virtual boy was a terrible console that was really difficult to use, many people could not use it. So it is no wonder that most parents would not buy it and rather will just get more conservative NES / N64 or Gameboy.
I think you should make an exception for the Fire Emblem Fates collector's edition on 3DS. This editions includes all three versions of the game on one cart, including Revelation which was normally only downloadable. Since the 3DS eShop has been taken down, this is now the only way to play that version of the game. Just the loose cartridge is worth at least $300.
Im not going to lie i would watch hours of your videos as background to just interest in collecting, this really fits well to what i want to watch from your channel.
Awesome video, I'm just looking at picking another console to start collecting for and this was super helpful!(and frightening hahaha) Thanks man! Hope to run into you at Really Rad Weekend.
Not gonna lie... I sold my boxed Shantae last year. Used it to finance an OLED Switch, the Switch version of Shantae and somewhere around 30+ Marvel and DC omnibuses. Haven't looked back.
In 2017, I saw a copy of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance in a vintage video game store for $170, and you said at the time of the GameCube video, it was $80?
Adding to the comment on mega Man X3, The reason primarily why it's so rare is that it cost as much if not more than a N64 cartridge, I believe it cost about $75 because of the custom chipset that was in it when it was originally released. The release timing was also at the very end of the main line Super Nintendo support.
I avoided getting the US copy and just sourced a JPN Rockman X3 instead. If you want to play the game with a real cart it's only $30-40 and not the absurd $300+ a NTSC-U copy is commanding today.
When I first got into the gamer part of TH-cam nintendrew was the first person I got into because of the n64 content. I love to see you still making awesome videos for us, never stop.
Drew is one of my favorite youtubers and I've been watching him since I learned what youtube was, It's cool to see how far he's come to even making a game (which I still haven't beat lol,) thank you for sparking my love for gaming Drew!
What's really amusing is with the 3DS eShop closing I'd have to actually say a physical version of Fire Emblem Revelations jumps up to be up there. As the exact number is equal to the number of limited edition copies of the game that were sold were sold. Because that's the only way you can play it now
Back in the day I use to work at Blockbuster & being a Gamer I knew about Shantae & told them they should rent it out, but they told me they never heard of it & it would only be rented to girl gamers & they wanted generic games that would be rented to everyone or a game that already is selling well. So I am not surprised Shantae is on this list! Also I love Puzzle games & have Spuds Adventure for the GB, but did not know about the sequel, Amazing Tator...might have to look into getting that one! Thanks Nintendrew!
Luckily, Shantae was re-released by Limited Run on the GBC and the Switch. You should be able to get a copy for much cheaper than the original release. I snatched one up the moment I found out about it so I could finally play the game.
I own both Touch Detective games that were released outside of Japan and a physical copy of Indivisible. Almost sold the Indivisible to GameStop until I saw on a website that a physical copy of the game was rare and had an extremely limited print run.
I love this kind of content, i discovered your channel thanks to them... and it was awesome seeing your growth in those years. Thank you, and keep going!
I remember my local video store having Stadium Events for rent. Idk why it always stuck out to me. But in vividly remember it. It was always in the exact same spot. Probably ended up in the sale bin for a few dollars. Who knows what happened to it.
Zombiez Seeker for the DS is pretty pricey also. Loose copies aren’t that expensive at around $60 but CIB copies are at $150 and new copies seem to be rare and are at $250 according to price charting. Axiom Verge for the Wii U had a PAL physical version which is worth more than the NA copy which you don’t see to often as PAL versions of games are usually cheaper than their NA counterparts
The game itself is what is valuable to me. Not monetary value on the eBay market. If I want the game, I don't care what it's cash value is as I have no intent on selling it.
I’m about 60% of my way to completing my collection of officially-licensed NES games, but after seeing the 2023 price of some of these super rare ones, I’m close to deciding a 100% complete collection won’t be happening. Great video, though - I love content like this!
Sounds like a smart idea. I've been trying to pick up as many LEGO games for DS as I can, mostly because I can get them for $1.5 from local flea markets. (And for whatever reason, DS games are almost always in box, which is nice.)
A year or two ago my local disc replay movies and games sold a copy of panic restaurant in box for 800$ they also sold a copy of the metroid prime and wind waker 2 in 1 combo pack once for like 400$
Thankfully, Shantae was rereleased on modern platforms, so you can now easily play the game in an official way without having to sell your children for it!
I wish i would have stole Stadium Events from my older brother's friend (who really wasnt a friend, my brother ended up knocking his teeth out with a bat "by accident" cuz dude was such an asshole)...he was the type of kid who when you played tag back in the 80s would never leave the safe zone and if he did would cry to his mom if he got tagged. "I can't run, it's too hard...why are you all so fast?...i didn't poop my pants, it was a wet fart."
This was def cool to see an update on prices on all these games on the diff lists. Some of those games I have and crazy to see them go up, especially Gotcha Force since I'm pretty sure I have it complete. Would never sell it tho. I guess a leg up the Wii Ver of Dokapon Kingdom has over the Switch ver is the newer one got censored with certain parts for some reason.
Thank you for doing this, I watched some of these with price charting opened up to look up the current prices of games, now I don't have to do that lol
Just realized that Wendy Every switch Way has a super similar HUD to a Sabrina The Teenage Witch. It was called Sabrina: The Animated Series Zapped! Edit: just looked, Sabrina: The Animated Series Zapped! was also a Way Forward game
am i the only one who noticed drew is using a green screen in the beginning to fake the background into looking like his room? you can notice it when drew turns his head and you can see the games behind him show through the side of his glasses.

In the Japanese version of Jack Bros. you can swap the in game text from Japanese to English by entering L trigger + R trigger + Left D-Pad Left direction + Start on the title screen.
Completely unrelated but last year my local disc replay movies and games sold a copy of panic restaurant in box for $800. At the same time they also sold a copy of the metroid prime and wind waker combo pack for $400
Would a Blockbuster exclusive be considered really? They weren't available for sale to everyone. Would a rental store be considered retail? I didn't have a blockbuster near me growing up. Just asking, love your content...
I would say it's a grey area, what would you consider Game Fly? The difference between it and Blockbuster is online and a physical location but both would be considered retail imo
If you are taking different editions of games into consideration, than the USA version Hyrule Warriors Collectors Edition would be the rarest WiiU game by far.
I gotta say, this is one of the best compilations I've seen in a long time! Game collecting is frankly insane. I mean, I'm a collector myself, but it's simply crazy to pay 3k for a Barbie game.

The code to switch Japanese Jack Bros to English has also caused the Japanese version to go from being worth $80 last year to $175.
Completely unrelated but last year my local disc replay movies and games sold a copy of panic restaurant in box for $800. At the same time they also sold a copy of the metroid prime and wind waker combo pack for $400
Well time to grab the popcorn
I’m regretting not buying Car Battler Joe when it was on the Wii U Eshop….
I'm still holding on my copy of Clayfighter Sculptor's Cut
I will say on DS games, Suikoden: Tierkreis goes for a pretty penny, too.
Great, I’ve got 9 or 10 of these games, all CIB (or sealed, for Axiom Verge for Wii U)… but I’m a PAL French collector. It’s a different market.
Oh no, it's this guy again lol. I love yo videos homie
I bought Yo-Kai Watch 3 for $30 at a Gamestop. Quite a lucky find
To this day I regret selling my copy of Pokemon Box. I ordered it online back when it was new.
Fun fact: animaniacs: lights, camera, action! was a home depot exclusive ds title.
WHAT I don't think home depot sells games was it like a promotional item or something
My favorite thing was that Animaniacs on the DS doesn't actually exist in NA! My collection remains complete! 😅
I thought for NES one of the rarest was Nintendo World Championships the golden cartridge, they were only given during tournament for select ones 😅😮
The PAL version of Worms Armageddon in the UK never goes for that much...
If you are taking different editions of games into consideration, than the USA version Hyrule Warriors Collectors Edition would be the rarest WiiU game by far.
you should put the sewing machine video in the description
I owned the Turbo game… I sold it for cents
This dude reminds me it’s the sport card guy off of better call Saul
You forgot Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
