The worst thing is that in the "Legacy" comics R2 is still active, as a member of the Skywalker Family, which means he saw all the characters from the Original Trilogy die, including his beloved C-3PO 😢

I noticed this part more when I read the Obi-Wan book which explained more details about his life and what happened in it from when he was a child to past when he died. I figured he remembered R2, but he didn’t know that R2 remembered him since droids tend to go through a memory wipe like C-3PO did.

@@histguy101 It's not explicitly stated in the early drafts that Obiwan knew R2D2 that I know of. He might not have recognized him, because he never knew him. Stories evolve over time and we have the prequels, but the original backstory can be inconsistent. This happened a lot in 4, 5, and 6.
The real question is why does everyone continue to misquote Obi-wan? His exact words are, "I don't seem to remember ever owning a droid" meaning that he never owned R2 in his life. Obi-wan never said he had no memory of the droid and even if he did remember him, he's not going to let Luke know that for it will cause Luke to ask questions that Obi-wan doesn't want to answer.
