1- Find friends that will help you, cause pugs are such assholes that they will flame you for not healing them through avoidable damage. And people will troll you for asking questions
Multi Rank 1 Rsham here. My suggestion is to test a few different healers out, level them up in timewalking and run them through LFR or normal. Don't lose sight of what's fun in pursuit of choosing the meta healer, because the meta changes. Whatever healer that you become most accustomed to will be the best healer for you, because healing is about timing more than anything. HMU if you need any healing tips, I'm glad to give advice to those that want to improve.
As a long time healer imho everyone should start with resto shaman. It is very straight forward & it has several emergency buttons if you mess up. You even have a self rez in case of a group wipe.
I think holy priest is more straight forward. Resto requires some set up and more mama management while holy doesn’t require any setup and less utility to have to think about it.
@@marycorn3621 Holy has holes in its kit that shammy does not have (for instance an interrupt & a poison cleanse) & is therefore more reliant on good pug groups which can put new healers in bad situations. Resto shammy is completely reactive & has a solution for every situation while keeping its normal rotation very simple.
(Resto shaman main who also picked up tanking this season) I definitely think learning and becoming decently proficient at healing makes playing tank/dps much easier since you are already in the mindset of anticipating incoming damage (especially unavoidable damage), watching everyone’s CDs, and popping defensives/externals accordingly. It forces you to have a more wholistic view and understanding of the content you are doing. Can be hard at first and you will always have room to improve but that’s what makes it rewarding! Also just mute everyone and think of it as a follower dungeons makes things easier 😂!
My advice is, don't play healer if you are in the pug life. It's not worth it. Play tank of dps, it'll be more enjoyable. But if you like healing, find a group. I puged all the way to 2.8k IO as a druid healer and ... it was my worse nightmare. Don't do this to yourself. Healing isn't fun, at all.
DPS without a doubt is not enjoyable, well, if you don't mind waiting tons of time in queue, your main problem is the healer, druid is not that good pug wise, if you would have trying shaman/priest or mw you would have a different experience
@@asasdsaasda I'm enjoying to play my hunter and make the grind again, it's been pretty easy to find groups or assemble one. But i've tried shaman/priest/monk/paladin/druid, and only druid has the game play that i like, as a healer. And i'm not trying evoker, cuz nobody stands in the range for the spells to be effective.
Mouse over macros Take the time to set up the macros, it is the single strongest step you can possibly take. Yes, some add-ons can work, but I really do think they are all vastly inferior. Start with 5 man content like heroics. Enable raid frames for all content.
One of the most important and sometimes overlooked tips to healing: Use mouseovers for your heals! It makes it much easier. You can use an addon like cell or clique to immediately bind your heals to mouseovers instead of making a macro for each spell.
Ive never healed before this season and im currently upto 2600 as a resto shaman with pugs. Its crazy how you can tell after the first pull what kind of run its going to be. Some groups i do very little, and then other groups im spamming the tank and dps every pull. Gear doesnt seem to be helping as i healed 10s at 605 and depending on the group it can be just as hard at 630 as it was at 605. Therefore you never feel progression if that makes sense?
Really good video! I came back to healing for the TWW and even though there have been some tough moments this season, I love healing. I started as a healer 18 years ago in WoW, I've played tank, rdps and mdps to check it out and had fun, however;. today I play all healer classes and I won't go back. I'm a lifer when it comes to this role.
Recommending Holy Priest at this very moment is bad idea x.x I understand general idea .. usually it's the best one to recomment to players to learn healing with. And yes usually sentiment of classes being better or worse is only for highest level of gaming. I do main Holy Priest and I do manage But in this very patch your entire group have to work to catch up all your weaknesses, you have to call for everyone to use CDs at specific timings. Holy is very bad idea for PuGs.
I’m going from holy pala in cataclysm classic to holy pala in retail. When I first got back in to retail again I went with frost DK because of its transmogs. But now I wanna push myself in retail healing instead of just classic, this video gave me that extra push
Like you said, the best way to get into healing is definitely normal/heroic dungeons. I got into mistweaver by spamming timewalking dungeons. Super fast queues gave me lots of practice
Problem I have with healing, is Blizzard nerfed healer DPS so much that you're forced to switch specs just to enjoy world content. I shouldn't have to learn another spec, and switch from what I'm enjoying just to do world content quickly. Tanks, and healers should get a buff "World on your shoulders" or something where when NOT in a group Our damage is buffed MASSIVELY.
Playing as mistweaver is good if you are used to DPS. Just jadefire stomp, then do your dps rotation. That will work in 90% of situations. The rest you can play with and learn as you go along.
i can figure out rotation on DPS, i can figure out aggro and postioning on tank, no guides needed for both... but heal... Oh man, I either burn my mana in 10 seconds becauise I want to top everyone, or just panic and everyone dies... healing is so stressful for me, even on normal (616 shaman) people will still die. healing is SO EFING HARD in this game, and it would be easier but people, oh boy, people are the worst kind of creatures under sun, people are what makes healing stressful
You made me interessted in healing 😅 what about Paly is this also a good starter class? And interface i have problems with Vuhdo i have more Keys left for other binds but need to change the interface :/ and if not i need to do all this macros and switch all keys :/
I would absolutely put hours in to switching my main to healing. But the amount of crap they seem to take from groups, plus the bad role fidelity right now means the juice ain't worth the squeeze
Ya, it can be fun, but you have to really track CDs to play that well. During downtime you play very differently. I really would not recommend melee wings as a beginner spec for healing
Healium addon is what I use. I love it. It removes all the thinking, since you have all the healing button in front of each name. it makes it so easy and fast to react. If Healium addon get removed from the game, is the day I stop playing wow, since my main is healer.
I’m a beginner player and coming from console. Disc priest catch my eye cause of the game play damage and heal. But I have it learn a lot before the high gameplay
Wait for season 2 with healing maybe. For now when youre playing a healer youre playing a piano and player healthbars barely moves. Its so bad to play right now.
I tried retail.. I healed with pally and resto druid in cata and wotlk. Got caught up in the hype of WW and decided to try it. I chose Pres evoker and shammy. I really don't understand the professions... I never saw the point of them and I didn't get anything I could use. I might not have been doing it properly but you can't just find a recipe or buy a recipe and have a great item. I found I spent all my time waiting and then once I had waited if we had a wipe people would leave and I was back to waiting. I decided to start classic fresh again instead and I will never play retail again.. I can find the best items playing with randoms in classic. I can grind the same dungeon over and over to get what I need. I don't know why I want the gear in retail... They are all slight upgrades and gear scores is really all that matters. The gear sucks so I wait a lot and I don't know what I am waiting for.
I’ll preface this by saying i’m mostly a pvper and therefore not up to date on pve balance however as someone who prefers healing, they need to get healers balanced, I don’t want to be in a position where I feel i’m actively hindering my party because I didn’t pick the meta healer, in terms of pvp that would be Holy Pala or Disc Priest currently.
I love healing a lot and honestly what this game is missing is a necromancer healer. There are literally no dark themed healers in this game. And don’t come at me with disc priest cause that don’t count.
Well, I will not be healing or tanking in dungeons again, back in wrath of the lich king and cataclysm people was toxic towards me and dungeon groups are even more toxic today. If wasnt toxic back then and still toxic, I would not mind tanking and healing, but I guess people want to be toxic instead of getting groups abit more quick.

Nah fam all you did was nerf me and people’s health bars still spike af. Felt like I had to work so much harder than past seasons and it was less enjoyable

Between getting bashed by bad dps and no knowledge tanks, healing checks , weird mechanics healing is not fun unless you enjoy more stress on top of your day unless your with a coordinated group healing is most of the time trash in pugs
My rule of thumb that hasn't let me down, I over gear for the content I'm running and sure the one shot mechanics are unavoidable, however; it's far and few between. I've found there are more good players than bad in my experience. Mistakes happen and small handful of players just don't learn to avoid bad stuff, people genuinely want to get better and play. I main healer for m+ and raids.
They need to leave healers as HEALERS..not dps/heals. If you want that, go play FF or something. I wish healing was just as it was in classic. Now you just have healers who dont heal because they are busy trying to DPS..it's so stupid.

the most common mistake I see from new healers, or just chronic dps players, is spamming one button when the out going damage goes up at all. too often I will see someone immediately spam flash heal, chain heal, regrowth, vivify, flash of light. this is then followed up with "wow that was a lot of damage, this is stressful" and of course I have to gently say it was stressful because you ignored all cooldowns, and synergies. It explains why people say healing is leagues harder now. In every expansion pre legion spamming one ability was 90% of HPS.
its funny because healing is SOOOOOOO much harder than any other role...like to the point where its like playing a different game entirely.
