I love this, in the old Traveler Universe the ships had something called the "Spinal Gun", and yes it was a single energy weapon/ or rail gun that ran about 2/3 the length of the ship, with the reactors/capacitors that powered it all along that length. It is so cool to see something like that Idea coming into the game. After all GW was right when the pointed out that was the Evolution of Naval tech, from 100 gun ships of the line, to the Pre-Dreadnaughts. To ships like the Iowa's Just 9 Huge guns; but they could probably have sunk and entire fleet of pre-dreadnaughts. Thanks for posting this. BB.
We NEED More Ships, Battleships for every faction... Personally, I would be willing to pay 15-20 dollars for a fully fleshed out lineup of ships and weapons, A-LA VRO, but with vanilla balancing. Right now it feels like fighters fill in the m5-m3 fairly well. M6's don't feel like M6's. They feel too light to be M6s and too heavy to be fighters?. Perhaps reworking these for a bomber/ light M6 role?. The Vanilla race's big ships feel more like M7's, and their carriers feel like modified M7s. The split were the first faction that felt like they truly had some real diversity. The raptor finally encompassed the M1 feeling from X3, if it was also mixed with an M2. We need more like the raptor. Ideally: each faction should have 3 (or more) fighters. Fighter selection feels fleshed out enough that these seem least important at the moment. Superlight scout (M5) Interceptor (m4) Heavy Fighter (m3) Two classes of corvettes (m6). The current corvettes could be kept as light m6s. If gunships are kept in the game, they need an assigned role, as right now, they are simply worse corvettes. Maybe specialize them in anti-fighter/anti missile duties, or turn them into glass cannon turret haulers (8+ turrets each)? The game needs a set of corvettes that feel heavier than current M corvettes. 0-4 additional forward weapons, 2-8 additional turrets, maybe 1.5 times the durability and twice the size (roughly). The current carriers for the old factions could be kept the same, or reworked into M7Ms... The current destroyers are frigates, and should be reclassified as such. The Split could use a dedicated M2, but the rattlesnake and raptor are so well designed that they fill multiple roles. Then each faction would have 3+ fighters, 2-4 M combat ships, if the gunship is made to have a useful niche, 1-3 L combat ships, and 1-2 XL combat ships. VRO does a fantastic job with weapon variety, so no need to discuss that. In general, add a larger variety of weapons like X3, with weapons of specific design for each class of ship (PAC, HEPT, CIG, PPC) Rename/ rework them, just add enough weapons in unique roles to populate the universe. Same for missiles. Maybe the gunships could mount special weapons designed specifically for that class of ship, giving them a niche that is otherwise unfilled. (Strong light player-ship, anti-fighter, etc). I would throw down another 20 dollars at an expansion like this personally, and it would add much needed flavor that, in my opinion, would ensure the game surpasses X3 in terms of immersion and fun! Sorry for the ramble, just my 2 cents on what I feel like is missing from X4
Can't wait to see what VRO does to this thing. Only reason I'm not getting CoH at launch is to give them time to implement it for balancing purposes. VRO Xenon I would slaughter this thing just by having a 2mil MJ hull.
I feel the same, i just dont think they will do that. You can see it with that Battleship, desinged like a heavy destroyer. Its strange that the I is still the only classic Battleship, you could just fly around and let your Towers do the work. I mean the asgard looks great and the new xl weapon is great. I really dont understand the focus on main weapons. I mean compare the dps numbers.
You HAVE to fly it because even 5 star captains don't know how to handle it (don't use main guns so it takes a minute to kill a Xen Cap instead of 4 seconds). Would have thought they'd have sorted that after 2 years. Anyway... I just park them at xen sector gates and they eat k's and i's for lunch.
@@kuhndj67 yeah... I finally got one and then I sent it against a small xenon station, expecting it to just melt it in minutes. But nope. Literally had to use railgun turrets mod to make it usable OOS.
The beam effect still needs a little work, I think. It's got a slow progression when it first fires, but then flips off instantly when it stops firing. Seems to me it would look a lot better if it was consistent - either have momentum at both the beginning and the end, or a snappier light-speed activation and deactivation.
@Maniac 5000 yes. The beam damage is nolonger 10k. Its 316k. Enough to one shot anything. But it tskes forever to reload. So u really only get 1 or 2 shots per fight.
Thanks for this wonderful video, i remember that in Albion Prelude the Asgard was the most powerful ship in game (even more than the Boron Megalodon) but the only way to obtain it, was through board operations that for Xenon and Terran ships was very very difficult (even if not impossible). Now i can substitute the Rattlesnakes with these far more powerful ships to annihilate stations, (in fact they seem to me inferior to the Split Raptor for what concerns hangar, that represents the main aim of a carrier, and slots turret but their heavy massive output of the main weapons, which is totally absent in Raptors, make them the perfect Heavy Super Destroyer that i needed). Thanks again for your contents, i used the video of HTF studios for the foundamentals of the game but only you remain updated with this fantastic game with the DLCs. Thanks again :)
The ship reminds me of the great but now defunct Fractured Space and all the hours I spend in that game. This project looks fantastic, I'm gonna keep track of it

Now those that are wondering why you can not BUY these 2 ships Asgard & Syn is because you must build them yourself when you get your Blueprints when you build your own Shipyard. ***Note*** Shipyard, not Wharf.
I am wondering at what range the Asgard can still keep the Xenon I on target with the main battery. I am thinking inside 2k, the I might be to fast? I am waiting for the expansion to drop before loading back into it. Just found the channel and looking forward to more!.
I feel like you need those medium mounts need to be moved more to the rear, everything seems to be forward or mid mounted and very little consideration is given to the rear of the ship providing defense to your engines.
We have fighters (s class), gunboats (m class), destroyers (l class), carriers (xl class) and with coh on the horizon battleships (xl class), where is the middleground tho? I need cruisers!
None of them perform how you expect anyway, stick to Destroyers, Carriers and S class bombers. Medium ships just get swatted out the air. I really wish they had all the same ship classes as X3:AP, same size and performance. Frigates on that game were terrifying.
A bit late to the party but I was invading a Xenon sector with an Asgard and a Syn. The Syn on its own could take out a solitary K without taking any damage a lot of the time as its massive damage output and superior range allows you to take the K down to 1/4 health before it manages to get into range of you (unless you're unlucky or inattentive and it manages to travel drive really close to you). With the Asgard as well... I came across a fleet of one I and 4 Ks. They were a little spread out and either didn't aggro at the same time or were just too slow to reposition. I piloted the Asgard and managed to destroy the I before it could even fully turn around to accelerate towards me. The Syn took down 1 K without taking much damage and then I took down the other Ks with one burst of the superweapon each. One well supported Asgard can conquer the universe. Your only real threat is another Asgard.

Xenos in a Terran ship, i call heresy. Also i'm very surprised by the absence of Plasma. The turrets are seriously lacking firepower VS big ships. Where is the matter/anti matter turret, point singularity projector and the star burst? I have to admit the current weapons are a bit disapointing and i was expecting some new stuff.

I love this ship. My forward L batteries have Terran pulses, and the aft L batteries have Argon Plasma. Flack M battery on the ventral side Flack & Argon Pulse M batteries on the dorsal side. My only problem with the Asgard is it seems a bit lacking on M platforms. But it's a rock-solid, true-to-form *Battleship.* It takes hard punishment, And it gives hard punishment. And I was recently able to finally get all mk3s on my shielding equipment. XL and battery shields. I can take on 2 Ks along with a few Ms & ss by myself, and MAYBE lose my shields. Next goal: modifying the shield recharge rate and plasma projectile velocity. Yeah. Im a shield tank. And i havent even bothered with the spinal beam yet. Cant imagine how powerful that thing is.
@@adimasguntur 1 raptor loaded with any fighter with 6 forward hardpoints... annoying as hell to supply, but the best ship for destroying literally anything. I personally like to equip at least half the fighters with heavy weapons for killing enemy capitals...

Okay, let me preface my comment by saying I haven't played X4 at all yet (waiting for CoH to drop and then I'll probably wait for either a sale to grab the complete game or one patch cycle to iron out any quirks, whichever comes first): The hell is that average turret output difference between the Xenon I and the Asgard? I mean, 16x L sized turrets in a configuration that should let the ship more or less always fire eight of those turrets at any given target (minus blind spots in the back). No idea how many turrets the I has but with nearly 24x the average turret output that's some **serious** difference. Is the Xenon I just completely bonkers and went full Ork WAAAGH on the never enough dakka doctrine, or what? Is it made of guns? Or does it get extremely powerful guns? Does the Asgard turrets house peashooters? Currently in my personal hype-up phase so close to me finally getting the game and, like I said, without any X4 game experience to draw upon this looks real odd.
As I thought from the other X games, the Terran engines are even the slowest. When the game comes out I'll put a split engine with 14.953Kn on it. I can't wait.
So if I want to use this ship I'll have to use naval tactics pre aircraftcarrier era. Nice. Only question that I have about this ship now is the cost. Probably gonna break the bank with that thing.
Fly to Hatikvah's Choice and shoot down the Xenon that are coming out of the "northern" gate :) That's the fastest I know. And check the map from time to time if parts are laying around ;)
The Asgard has proven more than capable of operating solo… because it can take out K’s in one shot and I’s in 2, when piloted it can destroy all the capital ships in a xenon fleet in a couple minutes and then mop up s’s/m’s…. All by itself. It’s better to support it with osakas but I found the Asgard and Erlking together can handle any sized xenon fleet without damage.
@@Kris.G sure, but the syn and asgard aren't produced by terrans, the one you get from Delilah, is kind a special case, and the Asgard you can only aquire by producing in your own shipyard.
Ah I remember those good old day when I can use one ship to destroy whole sector ,and I like big ship with big gun honestly I feel the "No DLC ship" precisely destroyer is little bit weak to those DLC ship ,hope they will make some old ship more powerful .
Nice simple video and very informative, however you missed a little opportunity. Seeing you compared the ship to the Xenon I, you should have did a 1v1 in the hands of the AI. LET THEM FIGHT!! haha
Amazing. I hope other ships of this type will be added to the game because right now the Asgard will be far and away the class of any navy. Raptor remains the best ship design in my mind, however.
The main guns and L Turret pattern is good, but why would you build a ship like this with such pitiful point defense. Don't get me wrong, it is still better than most of the M and L ships that have no turrets to protect the bottom of the ship, but there is more than enough room to have many more M Turrets.
it always makes me laugh. In space the size of the ship doesn't matter with no friction moving the mass from standing still is not difficult. and max speed? what is that in space, as long as there is acceleration the ship should go faster and faster, how does a limit work? game design ... oh well I love the game
Great video. I played X4 3.0 versions for a while, i dont really like their capital ships designs. In this case, Asgard looks great in apearance, but why it only got 1 main thruster? It seems ridiculous for having only 1 main thrusters on such a big ship. About weapons, i know they want to balance the game, but a battleship with no reliable turrets and point defence is also bad. I would rather have a battleship has a sky high cost to build, other than a incompetent one. Look at Xenon I, thats what it should be like. You either be a traditional battleship that has heavy armor and armaments which make it invincible when facing multiple much smaller targets, or you have a huge spinal weapon that can obliterate enemies with only a few shots from long range. X4's capital ships just dont work well in both ways. Its a single player game, while balancing is necessary, i think Egosoft just gone too far about it. Make a super high cost but also strong capital ship, players wont mind the grind of getting the resources for building it. Who doesnt want a Flagship in a space game? Also L and XL class weopons are so weak in this game, both in data and visual, even sound effects. They dont really got a huge range adavantage, their visual effects usually look bad, especially beam and plasma balls. And the sound effects, they are AWFUL sometimes. The main battery of Behemoth, with such a strong name and a good model, it sounds like nerf gun... I got hyped when i see Asgard has a spinal weapon. I am a huge fan of these things. Then i see the visual effect, i thought, ok, not great, but still usable. Then i realized the sound... The hype was gone immediately. Energy weapons' sound effects are really bad in this game imo. I would rather have XL Engines thrust sounds for XL weapons rather than current ones. EVE Online did a good job on those things. I guess you can say Egosoft is a rather small dev team, but i heard better sound effects from Mods of Space Engineers, Stellaris etc. If mods from 1 person have better sounds, why cant X4 have? I dont mind the price goes higher if the quality is better. While the trailer was good, i dont think this dlc convinced me to play again.

I hoped they have fixed the AI as when I played it last they did not believe in repairing. I saw one whole system lost in two hours because none of the fighters or large vessels would go and repair themselves.

Well that´s a ship i will never get! It is to slow and pointless, if i wanted a brick in my fleet i will bring a carrier. The fire power is only good against bigger targets, but they are to fast for the main weapons to hit. By the time this thing has moved to face the enemy, the enemy is long gone. The turrets speed are a joke as well, 19? They should have made them fixed! This ship is only going to be good for one thing, shooting station while all the other ships actually do the fighting.
Honestly I am really getting sick of games making slow battleships. Do any devs not understand basic physics. I agree the turning is going be slow as hell but honestly it like they never looked at the US Navy. The Fastest ship in the Navy is the bloody super carriers and they have air and water friction to deal with. Yet their massive engines makes it so fast. Space there nothing pushing against the ship. So it will keep going and going. Tell ether you slam into something or you slowly it down.
Basic physics, more mass equals slower acceleration/deacceleration. You are correct the top speed is technically unlimited though but it will take along time to speed up and to slow down.
Where do you get these ships??? I've been on the 4.0 for a while and i don't see anything related to the actual Cradle of Humanity?????? Is this a beta-wannabe? Where they included changes but not the actual GAME? Who the heck releases a Beta that does not actually include ALL the content of the Expansion???? How do they expect all the bugs to be worked out LOL.

I would expect standard tactics to be running an Asgard along with a carrier and logistics ship for support.

With the Asgard as well... I came across a fleet of one I and 4 Ks. They were a little spread out and either didn't aggro at the same time or were just too slow to reposition. I piloted the Asgard and managed to destroy the I before it could even fully turn around to accelerate towards me. The Syn took down 1 K without taking much damage and then I took down the other Ks with one burst of the superweapon each.
One well supported Asgard can conquer the universe. Your only real threat is another Asgard.
Oof. Spinal mounted weapons are my absolutely favorite thing.
Ooooh, it doesn't have an M ship capacity because of the spinal mounted death beam. Just the landing platform.

Yes, if you're familiar with the X universe, than you should definitely jump into X4. Now with CoH you get a lot story content too

My forward L batteries have Terran pulses, and the aft L batteries have Argon Plasma.
Flack M battery on the ventral side
Flack & Argon Pulse M batteries on the dorsal side.
My only problem with the Asgard is it seems a bit lacking on M platforms. But it's a rock-solid, true-to-form *Battleship.*

And I was recently able to finally get all mk3s on my shielding equipment. XL and battery shields.
I can take on 2 Ks along with a few Ms & ss by myself, and MAYBE lose my shields.
Next goal: modifying the shield recharge rate and plasma projectile velocity.

And i havent even bothered with the spinal beam yet. Cant imagine how powerful that thing is.

I personally like to equip at least half the fighters with heavy weapons for killing enemy capitals...

Okay, let me preface my comment by saying I haven't played X4 at all yet (waiting for CoH to drop and then I'll probably wait for either a sale to grab the complete game or one patch cycle to iron out any quirks, whichever comes first):
The hell is that average turret output difference between the Xenon I and the Asgard? I mean, 16x L sized turrets in a configuration that should let the ship more or less always fire eight of those turrets at any given target (minus blind spots in the back). No idea how many turrets the I has but with nearly 24x the average turret output that's some **serious** difference. Is the Xenon I just completely bonkers and went full Ork WAAAGH on the never enough dakka doctrine, or what? Is it made of guns? Or does it get extremely powerful guns? Does the Asgard turrets house peashooters?
Currently in my personal hype-up phase so close to me finally getting the game and, like I said, without any X4 game experience to draw upon this looks real odd.

Fly to Hatikvah's Choice and shoot down the Xenon that are coming out of the "northern" gate :) That's the fastest I know. And check the map from time to time if parts are laying around ;)

The Asgard has proven more than capable of operating solo… because it can take out K’s in one shot and I’s in 2, when piloted it can destroy all the capital ships in a xenon fleet in a couple minutes and then mop up s’s/m’s…. All by itself. It’s better to support it with osakas but I found the Asgard and Erlking together can handle any sized xenon fleet without damage.
Can't wait to get this in my fleets. Still workin' on that rep.
Actually you can only buy the license for the syn and asgard, so you need to work far more than your rep to have this, especially the Asgard.
@@efxnews4776 Syn was acquired quite early in the game. A damaged version of it is a reward for doing the TER questline.
@@Kris.G sure, but the syn and asgard aren't produced by terrans, the one you get from Delilah, is kind a special case, and the Asgard you can only aquire by producing in your own shipyard.

Get an asgard for free by boarding it while in xenon space. Quite easy if you can get away fast after dropping the landing pods.

Amazing. I hope other ships of this type will be added to the game because right now the Asgard will be far and away the class of any navy. Raptor remains the best ship design in my mind, however.

The main guns and L Turret pattern is good, but why would you build a ship like this with such pitiful point defense. Don't get me wrong, it is still better than most of the M and L ships that have no turrets to protect the bottom of the ship, but there is more than enough room to have many more M Turrets.
Great ship but only available in beta. Obtaining one in game isn't possible until the end of the game.

In space the size of the ship doesn't matter with no friction moving the mass from standing still is not difficult. and max speed? what is that in space, as long as there is acceleration the ship should go faster and faster, how does a limit work? game design ... oh well I love the game

Great video. I played X4 3.0 versions for a while, i dont really like their capital ships designs. In this case, Asgard looks great in apearance, but why it only got 1 main thruster? It seems ridiculous for having only 1 main thrusters on such a big ship.
About weapons, i know they want to balance the game, but a battleship with no reliable turrets and point defence is also bad. I would rather have a battleship has a sky high cost to build, other than a incompetent one. Look at Xenon I, thats what it should be like. You either be a traditional battleship that has heavy armor and armaments which make it invincible when facing multiple much smaller targets, or you have a huge spinal weapon that can obliterate enemies with only a few shots from long range. X4's capital ships just dont work well in both ways. Its a single player game, while balancing is necessary, i think Egosoft just gone too far about it. Make a super high cost but also strong capital ship, players wont mind the grind of getting the resources for building it. Who doesnt want a Flagship in a space game?
Also L and XL class weopons are so weak in this game, both in data and visual, even sound effects. They dont really got a huge range adavantage, their visual effects usually look bad, especially beam and plasma balls. And the sound effects, they are AWFUL sometimes. The main battery of Behemoth, with such a strong name and a good model, it sounds like nerf gun... I got hyped when i see Asgard has a spinal weapon. I am a huge fan of these things. Then i see the visual effect, i thought, ok, not great, but still usable. Then i realized the sound... The hype was gone immediately. Energy weapons' sound effects are really bad in this game imo. I would rather have XL Engines thrust sounds for XL weapons rather than current ones. EVE Online did a good job on those things. I guess you can say Egosoft is a rather small dev team, but i heard better sound effects from Mods of Space Engineers, Stellaris etc. If mods from 1 person have better sounds, why cant X4 have? I dont mind the price goes higher if the quality is better.
While the trailer was good, i dont think this dlc convinced me to play again.

I hoped they have fixed the AI as when I played it last they did not believe in repairing. I saw one whole system lost in two hours because none of the fighters or large vessels would go and repair themselves.
Not sure when last time you played but if you have a auxiliary ship in sector they will use it when needed even if the aux ship is unassigned.

It is to slow and pointless, if i wanted a brick in my fleet i will bring a carrier.
The fire power is only good against bigger targets, but they are to fast for the main weapons to hit.
By the time this thing has moved to face the enemy, the enemy is long gone.

Honestly I am really getting sick of games making slow battleships. Do any devs not understand basic physics. I agree the turning is going be slow as hell but honestly it like they never looked at the US Navy. The Fastest ship in the Navy is the bloody super carriers and they have air and water friction to deal with. Yet their massive engines makes it so fast. Space there nothing pushing against the ship. So it will keep going and going. Tell ether you slam into something or you slowly it down.
Basic physics, more mass equals slower acceleration/deacceleration. You are correct the top speed is technically unlimited though but it will take along time to speed up and to slow down.

Where do you get these ships??? I've been on the 4.0 for a while and i don't see anything related to the actual Cradle of Humanity?????? Is this a beta-wannabe? Where they included changes but not the actual GAME? Who the heck releases a Beta that does not actually include ALL the content of the Expansion???? How do they expect all the bugs to be worked out LOL.
