    Erlking is definitely my favorite ship. It took a while to finish and the main gun mechanic is really annoying but the speed and turrets really make up for it. My Erlking with modification reaches a normal cruising speed of 520 m/s and a max travel speed of 14 km/s (though it takes abit to get there). It can outmaneuver every other capital ship thanks to that, as you are simply faster flying backwards than anything flying forward. And because its turrets are extremely hard-hitting and outrange all other capitals, you can kill them without concerns about the erlking's low shield points. I once killed a fleet of 1 I and 6 K's with it!

      I am completely with you. I use it as my main player ship in addition to a Kuraokami which stays in its hangar. Also pretty early on when I didn't have the main gun it did a great job in boarding other ships.

      Also 100% agree. The travel speed is ludicrous and I find myself constantly disabling adaptive steering -- which also stops acceleration -- to hit gates. Accelerators are almost impossible to navigate without dropping out of travel drive even with the whirly-gig mod on the engines... Against Xenon and their stations, this ship borders on overpowered with it being unique the only saving grace. Interestingly, the final mission of the "Tides of Avarice" plotline can be solo'd with this ship, but is surprisingly not a "walk in the park" and instead requires a lot of strafing attacks that are possible with its speed outclassing all un-modded fighters and frigates!
      One on the best uses for this beast is fly-by-boarding L/XL ships without reputation hit where you don't even have to enter travel drive to escape aggro range and have >300 marine slots available...

    I hawe 23 rep with Terran Protectorate, so it pains me greately that i had to steal, i mean borrow, i mean save, yes save their Asgard which was flying around just with 80 people on board. Obviously thats dangerous, imagine that someone actualy stole that.

    I'm surprised you didn't cover a couple of important things for carriers. It's not just about the quantity of S size pads, it's also about the amount of S size storage space. Additionally, some carriers have launch tubes that help them to launch fighters faster than they could deploy off normal (non-Boron) pads. Though, only fighters stored in internal storage (i.e. not sitting on a pad) can use the tubes. I've heard (but can't confirm) that tubes are about 4 times as fast at deploying ships as the non-Boron pads are.
    The Argon Colossus has 10 tubes, which means it can deploy a lot of fighters in a hurry. Shark has only 4 tubes. Tokyo and Raptor have no tubes at all. Paranid carriers have 8-10 tubes, and the Teladi have only 6 tubes.

      I was confused about his omission as well, he keeps saying “16 s docks” over and over about these carriers, but the Tokyo can hold 58 s fighters total, the raptor can hold 100.

    I'm new to the X universe with X4 being my first X game
    And my god, it's everything I ever wanted from a space game!
    I'm using an Elephant as my carrier, as it's the first XL I was able to board xD
    Accompanied by two Buffalos and bunch of S ships
    Early game strike force xD

    Asgard is the dedicated ship for fighting Xenon, it's an insane overkill against anything else.

    Raptor says shields are overrated. What is dead can't deplete your shields and 8x L turrets plus 93x M turret slots will see to that.
    edit:// You seem to have mixed up same numbers though, Tokyo has 28x M turret slots, not 14x.

    One notable aspect of the Erlking is that its the only ship capable of going 20+ km/s in travel mode with mods. It's essentially the juxtaposition of the Asgard, which is incredibly slow and bulky.
    The Rattlesnake is a powerhouse in dealing with all threats due to the balance of M and L size turrets, and 4x main batteries. The Syn is the only other destroyer that can realistically take it on 1v1.
    The Raptor is my go-to purely because of how many fighters I can launch. 40x Ares/Chimera with blast mortars shred even the Xenon I's, and 60x Chimera with Terran Pulse lasers shred both S and M size ships. Also, it should be noted that the Raptor deploys it's fighters much faster if you're out of sector, so it can deploy all 100 S size ships in ~10 seconds.
    The Asgard has a unique quirk in that it can deal more damage if you rapidly tap the fire button rsther than holding it down. When using this strategy with a modded main battery, it can deal ~15% hull damage to a Xenon Defense Platform. Also, loading it with L Terran Pulse Turrets makes it a great all-rounder against anything the game could potentially throw at it. It should also be noted that the Asgard can also reach 4.3k MW/s shield regen, completely nullifying a Graviton Turret.
    This is honestly a tough ranking because the DLC all add equally viable options in terms of XL size ships.

    I think pointing out the capacity difference in old and new ships like the E and Boron is necessary and while it doesn't matter that much for combat it does matter for versatility if you can store an additional 10 scouts if you want to checkout multiple places and don't want to worry about when they will be back.

    I would say for builders, another thing incredibly important is crew capacity, since not all builders are equal here, builders are one of the best ships to train engineering/moral, second only to a Teuta i think, but teuta has a much smaller crew capacity.

    Hello! As$gard with a little tuning is 1 shot xen I -> really crazy. With a little more tuning (cooldown, engine for reverse speed and optional paranid L plasma) piloting the As$gard you can chew up an entire invasion xen fleet of 2 I, 3 K and some other smaller xen while staying out of their range. 2-3 of them can stop (most of the time) large xen invasions without the player`s intervention. Of course, carriers full with fighters will defend positions well enough and with very few to none casualties. Also can be cheaper than the Asgard. Thanks for the video!

    I noticed you also didnt put the erlking engines on in the stat page,. the 155 speed, 5415 travel speed is normal faction engines, erlking with its proper engines are 354.8 m/s engines, 208.8 acceleration, and 11,707 travel speed, and once modded the erlking can outrun all heavy fighters in the game as well (mine has a speed around 550, boost speed of 1600, and a travel speed around 25k.
    Also should mention turret stats on the erlking are often misleading since its weapons are distance based and changes drastictly based on that, its turrets are also the longest range turrets in the game, base dmg output of an erlking L turret is 2x that of a plasma, a fully fit erlking, with its turrets alone can kill I's and K's in seconds, and with its speed it can get out of range of them before taking much damage. its the only battleship that can outrun torpedo fighters, an erlking can single handedly solo the vigor syndicate which im not sure any other ships can, but it is a 1 off (or 2 if u do a custom start and set it up right), its purely meant to be a player ship. It also sucks OOS in AI hands, the AI or game doesnt take into account the damage from turrets right it seems when not loaded in, when loaded in though it seems to have equal or greater sustained damage then even an asgard for destroying stations.

    Finally started the TER compaign and the Syn is just godly, give it some speed and get behind or very close to the sides of a Xenon K or I and the Syn just wrecks. Small enough to 'hide' / snuggle up to an XL ship and powerful enough to survive the alpha strike. It's the perfect ship, wish someone had told me about this in my prior 500+ hours of game play. Just picked this up about a month or two ago. Appreciate the videos Captain Collins, keep up the great work

    Guppy's make excellent anti-Kha'ak response ships. I love them. They aren't the biggest or the strongest but it's a role they slide into perfectly, being fast and quick to deploy fighters.

    I mean the Teladi, Argon and Paranid carries do have quick launch tube so they can be very quick for fast response they just don't repack all their fighters too quick

    My Fleets are focused on big turret lines instead of high durability or speed.
    With a Ragnarok as the only Battleship but boasting 124 Turrets and 840,000 MJ for shield, it can take quite a punishment.
    The Destroyer line is composed of mainly Kagawa's again for the massive amount of turrets (64) and 560,000 MJ Shield capacity.
    The Gunboats and vettes are only comprised of Egret's (6 Turrets and 80,500 MJ) they don't take a lot of hits to kill but punish the enemy more with a higher turret count.
    Last one are the Fighters. Pulsar for Bomber and Anti-Cap role and Quasar as Anti-Fighter front.
    Main composition is 1-3 Ragnaroks, 8-24 Kagawas, 14-30 Egrets and a good and healthy 20-40 Pulsars with a escort of 40-80 Quasars. Numbers depend on the main use of the fleet.
    They are the backbone of my military and are constantly fending off xenon attacks on my own and allied sectors.
    Because I'm playing modded, the Xenon are extremly ruthless, sending Invasion fleets with sometimes about 400 ships into sectors and just wiping them off the map.
    These are the factions already wiped out: ZYA, PIO, TER, FRE, a large chunk of BOR, HOP and TEL.
    My galaxy is a shitshow right now and the current objective is to survive, while I'mm sitting in the two sectors above Pious mist and trying to keep the rest alive by spamming hammering ships out of my wharfts with immense industrial complexes. Sometimes they wipe sectors of us and sometimes we do it to them, but it's only going more downhill.

    I've got 6 Asgards right now and they are definitely worth the wait Ive now got 2 Carrier groups with 1x Tokyo, 18x Kukri, 18x Gladius, 4x Nimcha, 6x Syn, 12x Osala, 3 Asgard and 1x Honshu each and 1 basically serves as the Xenon/Khaak removal service if either gets too much of a foothold in a region while the other I'm using to get rid of the Godrealm Paranid.

    The raptor is supposed to be used as a mobile hard point. To slow and weak for pushing. But if you set the turrets right(all 100+) of them you can make a floating base. Flak and beam for the Ms and plasma for the Ls. Beam are for Missile defense v.s. vig cyn. And flak for literally everything else. Mind you 1 thing. Missile defense turrets must be at the most exterior of the raptors groupings or they wont work enough to save her. Flak should be at the 2nd qrtr and the 3rd qrtr of the ship zones.

    I just started buying blueprints and building out my fleets centered around a carrier/ carrier group. I've noticed that in order to come close to the fighter capacity of one Shark, I have to have 3 carriers of other factions in that carrier group. So realistically, I'd have to spend a lot more resources to make up the space between the carriers instead of just building one Shark.

    Just wondering why the Odysseus is not on your carrier fleet? It has the same ship capacity as a carrier and it also has the firepower of a average destroyer. I love using it as a starter flagship as you can get one free at the start of a game. That's from a Pirating point of view.

    How many small ship forward plasma cannons as main weapons does it take to equal one large plasma turret? Idk if I should give my raptor fighters plasma cannons or bolts or a mix

    Personally I consider the Raptor a destroyer / carrier hybrid. As a player ship with decent mods those turrets are just overwhelming. It can take out an I's shields with minimal issues meaning the fighter loadout can focus entirely on taking out the hull while you draw the Raptor back from the vanguard.

    I use my carriers like they are used in naval warfare. They are never meant to engage in a fight, they are a mobile platform for launching waves of fighters to send in with destroyer flotillas and stay out of direct battle.

      ​@@Aotearas Because the raptor don't have a lot of shields. It's the best 'mobile platform' with 121 fighters and 31 M ships. Nothing will come close to the raptor...

      @@XxKidnoffxX I've yet to run into anything my Raptor couldn't kill in a fight. K+I Xenon invasion fleet and S/M swarms? No problem as long as I don't just yolo straight into all those capital ships. Ks die long before they can do significant damage and you still outrange the Graviton turrets on the I, even with the SPL Plasma turrets I use for aesthetic reasons.
      My Raptor is fully modded out with Slasher mods on all turrets, etc. so there's that. But with fighter support, there's nothing in this game you can't kill with your Raptor as long as you don't mindlessly yolo into everything.
      Personal opinion, but I think people playing the Raptor and not getting into the fight are missing out on what makes the Raptor so much fun compared to other carriers. If I wanted to just have carriers sit in the background and yeet fighter swarms at the enemy, any other carrier in the game is more economical.

    I’m in the late game and I find I rely on asgards a lot. I essentially have become the “xenon police” for the galaxy, protecting every entrance to xenon sectors with at least 2 asgards plus destroyer support. They are the only thing aside from mass firepower that seems to be able to stand up to an I. It does help that i have a Terran shipyard that can churn them out very quickly.

      When I played a year ago a big xenon fleet, with an L decided to enter the core sectors, and it was about to wipe out several of them, I didn't have enough destroyers to stand a chance of even getting close, so I made a bunch of shit junk fighters from the pirate blueprints, gave them all a regular gun, and a torpedo launcher, and those guys WRECKED the L.
      It's an economic, low tech alternative.

      I do the same, but with a Erlking. I kill K in less than 10 seconds. And I have no problem at all for a l (but it take longer). I get back 3-4 sectors to split, I destroy stations and every destroyers and mass fighters that come to me. With only, one Erlking... Nothing else at all lol

      @@XxKidnoffxX The erlking is better than an asgard in fighting K and I's, particularly out of sector (where the asgards refuse to use their beam weapons). I just wish we could produce multiple of them. Only having the 1 means its very hard to defend multiple sectors. Everytime an I turns up I teleport into the nearest asgard to target it with the beam. Mutliple Erlkings would remove the need to personally attend to incursions

    You forgot to mention that Erlking turrets have higher damage the closer the target is. That's why he's so fast. You fly up to the target at a distance of 1-2 km, and the turrets will simply destroy it in a short period of time (of course it does not work against stations). And given that most, if not all, XL ships in terms of speed and maneuverability are not even close to the Erlking - makes it a very powerful weapon.

    I'll definitely try the Shark one day but honestly the Raptor is absolutely insane. I've managed to take down an entire Xenon battlegroup (I + 2K and fighters) with an unmodded Raptor (ofc Terran shields, Argon Plasma/Flak loadout) just by maneuvering around them in a circle utilizing zero fighters of my own (Because I had none back then). That was one of the most epic fights I've ever witnessed in the game. I sincerely doubt the Shark has enough firepower to accomplish something like that but I'd definitely give it a try. Since then, my main Raptor has gotten a fairly heavy exceptional mod treatment, the plasmas are firing every second and the sheer inferno of the flaks leaves precisely zero hostile fighters intact. Many Xenon stations have fallen victim to the constant battering of the Plasma turrets of this Raptor so it is really versatile too. The only problem I've encountered which could not be resolved by JUST the Raptor was that certain Tides of Avarice mission taking place in Vigor Syndicate space. I have, however, never seen the Raptor in its full glory with 120 fighters in its belly so I can't say how powerful it can really get. One day, hopefully, I will.
    That said, I now run a Guppy which, honestly is just a better carrier to fly around in. It's just perfect. Unable to kill a K, though. Well, not yet at least. Maybe I'll build some Mortareyas and watch the sparks fly. Who knows.

    Should do a guide on dealing with the Zenon after they have gone sentient. I'm my game they took over more than half the galaxy and have wiped out all but the terran, teladi, and paranid. I've deployed 100 syn destroyers and 20 carriers across 10 fleets. The Zenon destroyed them all. In response i deployed 200 asgards. They sent 100 k's and 50 I class destroyers. I feel like I'm in a distopian sci-fi survival film.

    Capture Asgards, don't buy them. I sit a Rattlesnake behind its engine to keep shields down and engine crippled and and keep flooding the thing with marines till it submits

    Are you only talking about shield recharge using the race/faciton-specific shields for the ship? Condor and Colusus can have the same recharge if you give them the same shields. Terran XL lol

    The Asgard is love. You can down a K in about second and a half, it just melts. I built 3 Asgards and the rest are osakas and 1 Syn. But the Asgard is by far the best looking capital, along with the raptor.

      Asgard is just honestly gamebreaking. It never should have been added. One ship can wipe whole enemy fleet and nothing can stop it

      @@mmmdawe It's basically an end game ship which you can get only through having good relations with the Terrans (20+) and literally building it yourself after buying the expensive blueprints. You need hundreds of millions to make the first one, by that time you will need it.

      However even when boarding would not be possible and you would need billions to build it... What does it change? Nothing. It is still beyond OP. Nothing can contest this ship, it is literally impossible to destroy. Even if it wouldn't have its broken beam it would be very good ship. It's just unnecessarily overpowered

    I have a question and it may seem stupid. Forgive me because I'm a first-time noob at this game. Some of the ships that you've mentioned are not on the encyclopedia that I have in game. I only have one run and it is the Young gun. I'm at 46m net worth and about 30 hours in, fyi. Is every single ship in the game in the encyclopedia from the get-go? Yes I have all the DLC, but are some of these modded ships?

    When it comes to the Erlking it's the range that truly matters. Being able to shoot much farther away than any other ship is what makes the Erlking the king of battleships.

      Asgard with Paranid Plasma Turrets has almost the same range on turrets and higher range on the doom laser, not to mention much more damage and way stronger shields.
      Honestly, keeping the Erlking in the area where its turrets can shoot but the Asgards can't is pretty tricks, especially if you also need to keep out of the firing angles of the main battery of the Asgard at the same time (angular velocity anyone?). When it comes to being a battleship, Asgard reigns supreme (especially since you can alpha strike an I at 12km with a slightly modded main gun).

      @@Right1994 Granted, when it comes to raw firepower up front the Asgard reigns supreme. But when you put speed in the equation there's nothing better than the Erlking. I do use the Asgard as my main battleship for all my fleets, obviously because there is a limited amount of Erlkings. Even if there were a way to keep producing Erlkings I would still use the Asgard as the main battleship simply because of what you said, survivability and the main gun. The Erlking is really for the player, not AI.

    The Zeus always made me laugh, it’s like a fragile fast attack carrier. It can unload a ton of m-class on a target but har to run right after. Also it’s faster than the paranid ares. So it can out run its own fighters

    The only thing that you dont talk about with Aux ships, that is super important is the number of docks that they have. not just speed and tankiness. It's... how fast can they repair a fleet!

    Slignt correction "MW per second" (1:48) is nonsence: watt is a joule per second, so "watt per second" would be "joule per second squared", which has no use.

      you are wrong.
      The shields restore a certain amount of W or MW per second, that is absolutely correct.
      Each battery does store a certain amount of Energy, it's always measured in Watt per Hour or similar.

      Carriers can’t repair L/XL ships.

      Also carriers can not be supplied by traders. But you can assign traders to automatically fill your Aux. Which can then refill your carrier. So those slow mobile shopping centers dont even need to drive home but get their own automated S or M class delivery trucks.

    Honest there is no other ship if you want to Dominate battles its the asgard its only weakness is a S class ship swarm. The Asgards main gun can 1 shot a Xenon I before it goes into cooldown. Also i would argue the Boron Builder is the best as it has a crap ton of drones good speed and defense dont need to worry about it eating crap when your trying to build stations to take systems.

      @@zacharypump5910 You can buy an Osaka but Syns are only available as a blueprint, for the cost of just the blueprints for L fabricators and the Syn blueprint you can buy like 5 Osakas. And you don't need to spend money on building the shipyard and the materials needed to build the ship.
      Also Osaka has more M turrets which are much, much better against smaller targets, so if you have 600 million to spend you can get yourself a Syn or 5 Osakas which are roughly 3 times the DPS with marginally less hull for each... but it's 5 ships in total, with much better protection against fighters. Also I don't think the game calculates main battery damage OOS, both against ships and agaist stations, so...
      Basically it's situational. If you have the industry for building your own ships and you want to fight IS- sure, the Syn will be better, but if you can't afford a functional shipyard and you prefer letting ships fight OOS then Osaka will be better. There isn't really a "best ship" in the game, all of them have strengths and weaknesses

    Ranking Carriers based on survivability?!? If your carrier is in a shooting war you have already failed. Just like in Real Life your carrier shouldn't be near the front to the point that the enemy can shot at it. Raptor is clear winner as it's has well over twice the dock for fighters. I use them with 100 fighter fleet to unleash hell.

    Asgard isn't worth it. AI cannot fly it in combat, and a couple of destroyers will do a better job in all respects. It's a beast if you fly it yourself, but painfully slow. It's a pretty cool flagship, but there are better options as a flagship, like a Shark or a Raptor (Raptor is goat imo).

    Great game, but I dishooked totally from it when story forced you into impossibilities, making it a non-sand box game anymore with economics in place. I hope the devs see this also and make a more random problem and solving option in the game so that no story line has to be followed at all.

    Stop comparing ships with Racial weapons and equipment it makes no damn sense the only thing that matters is slots and speed and the like 2 ships with 4 shield slots have the same damn shield output

      How are you going to make a fair comparison with the Borons then? They literally can't equip things from other races. Also all the racial M turrets only differ in things like hull integrity and tracking speed, for example Argon and Paranid bolt M turret: 500 MJ and 750 MJ hull and 180 degrees and 90 degrees respectively, while both have 108 MW of output and 3.3 km range, the only turrets that have a damage difference are flak turrets, with the Split version having lower range (due to lower projectile speed and shorter lifetime) but higher DPS because of higher rate of fire.
      As for shields... It literally doesn't matter. The ship you put them on doesn't affect the shield output, all the shield generators generate the same shield no matter what ship they are put on, so if you put the exact same shield on everyone it doesn't tell you anything

      @@TheByQQ thats the point they cant equip the best stuff so you have to consider that when comparing. And tracking speed is one of the most important stats way more so then DPS 2 destroyers can easily take down a K or 2 but they will eat crap in a fire when a bunch of little guys attack with out the right turrets.
