I would like to request a azelaic acid video comparing or a stand off! You do such a good job at it. I’m curious of what you think of the Dr. Sams one compared to Geek & Gorgeous.
Oooh that's a great idea- definitely will have to do this! AA doesn't get talked about nearly enough- I found adding it into my routine was a total game changer- really added to the clarity and tone of my skin. I've been meaning to try Dr Sam's forever, maybe this will be a good excuse!
I have sensitive skin with mild rosacea and the Good Molecules works great for me, it actually replaced the Drunk Elephant T.L.C in my routine. I didn't notice a big diference when i used them side to side for a week so i will be repurchasing the Good Molecules.
Oh thank you so much- you're too sweet! I think it is probably a combination of both to be honest. The one product that really helped my skin get to the next level was adding in Azelaic Acid- it really made a huge difference over a few months. I cannot recommend checking it out enough! The Geek and Goregous Apad Serum is wonderful. Facetheory and Cos de Baha also have amazing AA serums. I've also been playing around with my moisturizer- adding in a few drops of bronzer makes a really nice glow! And a little dusting of the Laura Geller Diamond Dust Gelato Powder always does the trick for a little glow!
Absolute Winner- debated putting them in this list but since they weren't more on the lactic acid side I didn't. Going to have to talk more about them because love PSA Skin and their Toner is wonderful!
I actually like the Tarte Toner. It doesnt have fragrance or grapefruit oil, like u said... maybe the serum does, but they dont both have those ingredients. Still love ur channel 🥰
Seems like the Tarte Toner works great for a lot of people. I should have specified the serum version I was talking about, sorry about that, the Knockout Serum is still a goodie, but does contain grapefruit peel oil and limonene, although even in that the scent of it isn't noticeable. I'll go back and update that to make it more clear!
I hated the smell of Honeymoon Glow initially, but I got used to it over time and I've come to really like how the Serum works. I've noticed a huge difference over the last 7-8 months.
I think I'll try the Good Molecules one, thanks! Also, I hope this isn't rude, but I never noticed your pigmentation before this video (I only recently found you) and the difference between then and now is insane! I'm off to search your channel for pigmentation products to try figure what you used ❤
You are so right about my melasma and hyperpigmentation- it was insane before- still noticeable, but getting so much better with time, good products, and diligent SPF use. My favorites are the Regimen Lab Level Serum, the Topicals Faded, and the PTR Discoloration Niacinamide Serum. Also using a good vitamin c serum (like the Geek & Gorgeous C Glow) during the daytime has helped a ton!
Hi Sarah I haven't tried the good genes (or anything from SR tbh). For me it's another very expensive brand only famous on youtube and here in the UK rarely seen in actual stores. I did use the ordinary lactic acid before I started retinoids and before the advent of my rosacea - it was fine at that time, but I wouldn't be able to use it now due to far increased sensitivity. This was way back when the ordinary was first available lol. I remember it being a decent product and I know it's still really popular. I can't really use lactic acid anymore (unless it's a very small amount), due to the rosacea and the increased cell turnover I already get from my retinoid and azelaic acid usage. I do use an AHA/BHA once a week as part of a weekly routine - using either low strength mandelic acid or PHA on the perimeter of the face, neck and chest, plus a 1% BHA on the centre of the face from PC (the calm 1% BHA). Due to all the rich creams I normally use for my very dry skin, that once weekly treatment keeps my pores clearer and my skin fairly smooth. I have increased the BHA to twice a week during this unusual heat/humidity we're having in Scotland, as I've noticed a bit more congestion from all the sweating and the bulletproof ultrasun spf 50+ I'm using. I also like the geek and gorgeous calm down PHA and BHA exfoliator used all over the face, but don't have that one at present. Best wishes.
I’ve used TO 5% Lactic & Inkey List 10% Lactic & they seemed to do absolutely nothing for me, so I gave up on both. I used the TO Lactic right after Timeless Vit C (like Hot & Flashy Angie does) & I wrecked my skin, but that was the only time I ever saw any results from using Lactic.
I'm pretty impressed that Hot & Flashy can use those two together... I think my skin would be screaming at me if I did that, but obviously it must work well for her- she has amazing skin!
@@NOBSBeauty Well, Angie always says she has sensitive skin (as I do) & I figured I could also tolerate the combo of Lactic & Vit C, & I was - for a few months, until severe irritation flared up all over my face! Lesson learned is, even a super gentle acid like Lactic, mixed with Vit C can lead to disaster, as can following exactly someone else’s skincare routine. Anyway, I’ve found Lactic is way too gentle to be effective for me.
Fabulous line up! Love your gorgeous skin too! I’ve enjoyed many of these (based on your reviews) but still not GM!! Don’t know why bc I’m a cheap-stake 💕☀️💕😊☀️!!!
GM is worth a try- and the best thing is you can probably buy their entire lineup (lol, just what every skincare junkie needs, more products, lol) for under $100!
I have so many bottles of exfoliants (glycolic, mandelic, salycilic) than didn't work for me. I feel guilty. I'm good with TIL PHA now. I will try lactic acid one day...😬
Exfoliants can be so dependent on many different variables- it can be such a challenge to find one that works well, especially depending on what other products you use, skin type, and how sensitive skin is. PHA is wonderful- gentle for sensitive skin, but still effective!
I really wish my skin hated GG because it’s so expensive, but it’s the one that works best for my skin so far. Definitely gonna check some your suggestions though!
I’ve used Good Genes and the Ordinary’s lactic acid was okay. Nothing great. But Farmacy’s Honeymoon Glow is definitely a great dupe and worth the price.
Oohhh, I've come to find TO lactic 10% virtually a holy grail.. kinda hate labeling any skincare as 'holy grail' because I like rotating and my skin enjoys the change, but if I go more than about two weeks without their lactic, most noticeable difference in my skin by changin' / removin' a product I've found yet.
@@A.R.S.1309 I have tried a deluxe sample of the 'Honeymoon Glow', and really did enjoy that one.. my budget only allows for one more expensive product atm, though, and along with TO lactic I'll add the 'Tatcha' violet-c serum with their lactic ingredient, too. 😬😹 TO one though, really is hard for me to replace for both the product itself, never has irritated me and soaks in beautifully, and the price.
I did love good genes- But I started noticing big red blotches after using it felt like something was pinching my skin. I switched to the Ordinary and it has done wonders for me. Thanks for the great video, Sarah!
I never tried the lactic acid version since I live in France and we only have the glycolic acid version, and I love it soooo much! I tried tons of acids (the ordinary, paulas choice etc) and I always go back to sunday riley because of it's moisturizing texture. I will try Honeymoon though.
I actually prefer the glycolic version to the lactic acid version. I found the glycolic version to be much more gentle, yet still effective. The Honeymoon Serum is wonderful- definitely worth a try!
I really like Biossance Squalane+Lactic Acid, even though I don’t like the brand. Also got a sample of Holifrog Halo AHA+BHA which I really enjoyed. ❤️❤️
That one from Holifrog is quite nice- I've been pleasantly surprised by their skincare line so far, other than the price. Why does my skin always love expensive stuff...
I was on the fence about the Paula’s Choice 10% AHA but hearing your stamp of approval… I might just purchase it right now 😂 the ordinary is not my cup of tea, everything that I have tried from them broke me out, including their lactic acid. The inkey list didn’t do anything for me, no tingling, no exfoliating effects, nothing. I finished the whole bottle but nada. I haven’t tried the Good Molecules one.. which would you recommend for combo-oily skin? Good Molecules or Paula’s Choice?
Both are wonderful so you cannot go wrong with either, but Paula's Choice still has some of the best exfoliants around so I think I would start with that and see how your skin likes it.
I love the G&G smooth out. Tingles a bit for the first 4 weeks of using it. But it works wonders for my skin! Sarah, I may have missed it but have you tried Dr Sam Bunting's skincare line?
I have not, but a few people have been asking about the Dr Sam's exfoliant so I ordered it- been meaning to test it out for a long time so hopefully it is as good as people say it is, definitely keeping you posted!
I got the small size of honeymoon glow. Started using it everything was fine, it stung a bit but worked good. Like halfway through the bottle it started to burn as soon as I applied it, my face turned bright red and I had to wash it off(me been stubborn I tried it a few more times and had the same reaction). Also I can't use G&G smooth out(love everything else by them tho). My skin is used to and can handle some pretty strong exfoliate exfoliators so I'm thinking it's something else in them bothering it🤷🏼♀️. Hope you are having a great week🥰🖤
It is interesting that skin can become less tolerant of certain ingredients over a long span of time, and it is probably one of the ingredients in it which your skin slowly wanted to tell you it didn't "like" Have you been able to find an exfoliant that works better for your skin?
@@NOBSBeauty yeah right now I've been using bhas in toner forms mostly for my exfoliating needs. When I do need something stronger I use the Good Molecules one you mentioned or a mask like yttp yerba mate facial or REN radiance renewal. I used to use the ordinary peeling solution but my breakouts have been to bad lately to handle it
That's a lot of exfoliats! I'm still on a journey to find the best one for me. Cerave SA cleanser is an effective exfoliant but it's too strong as an exfoliant and too shabby as a cleanser so it was a no for me. Then I tried the COSRX black power liquid of whatever it's called and it irritated my skin a lot. I skipped the Ordinary exfoliating products because they seem difficult to use. I'm now using the inkey list SA Serum which is very gentle and sits nicely on my skin but I honestly can't tell if it's working or not. My blackheads on my nose have been looking decent in the past few months but probably because I'm also on tretinoin? Definitely not seeing improvements with discoloration or fine lines or ingrown hair and blemishes in my beard area 😔 Maybe I need something stronger? Would you suggest the Ordinary peel? The red one you know. Also I know you said you're not willing to review the jlo skincare line but I actually think some of the products are pretty damn good in spite of the hefty price. The sunscreen is very interesting as a day moisturizer followed maybe by the la roche posay shaka fluid to boost the spf factor and UVA protection. The eye cream is completely fragrance and dye free and has a lot going on. The Serum seems to be amazing but unfortunately it has a colorant derived from beetles which apart from being gross it is also a possible allergen and that doesn't sit well with its price. The Night cream also seems Amazing and super thick but it's one of the few products with fragrance so it's a pass for me. But overall I think it's a very solid line from a celebrity, the star filter seems to be actually a very decent skincare/makeup product which thanks to iron and titanium oxides can help protecting from visible light when worn on top of daily spf to get "that Jlo glow" 😂
Sometimes I make mistakes whenever I flatline say "I'm not going to try a brand" and then they come out with something that looks wonderful- so maybe I was too quick to judge?!?! Tretinoin is probably helping a ton- it really is probably the #1 worldwide miracle product that has ever existed. The Peel from The Ordinary seems to be a great product that works well for a lot of people. I found it a bit harsh, but it still has a lot of people that it works so well for, I think at the price it is worth a try. If you don't like it a lot of people use it on rough skin on other areas of the body, like feet. Finding a strong BHA Serum is a challenge- most are 2% or less. Facetheory has a couple BHA Serums that I'm enjoying so that might be worth a try as well.
I've found going for a simple moisturizer can be best- I am really enjoying cica creams as well as the Cosrx B5 Panthenol Moisturizer. The other one I really enjoy is the Purito Centella Unscented Recovery Cream.
I e been using ordinary 10% and don’t think I see any difference after more than half the bottle using it every other night. I tried good genes sample for 2 days and feel I saw improvement and now obsessed but it’s expensive. I’m trying to talk myself into trying a small bottle while it’s on sale. Glycolic acid makes me feel like I’m on drugs and gives me nightmares terrors. I guess it’s an allergic reaction
I believe there are some regulations there that won't allow for Lactic Acid to be sold above certain percentages. The Glycolic version is a little nicer, in my opinion.
Differin is a retinoid and AHA is an exfoliant so they do different things. How long have you been using Differin? I wouldn't start an AHA too soon after you started the Differin, I would let your skin acclimate to the Differin at least 2-3 months, then you could slowly add in an AHA serum. If possible use them alternating evenings. The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% is a great one to start because it is a lower percentage, just be sure to add it in slowly.
I do, but I wait between them. The one that comes first is determined by their consistencies. I also believe it works best if you are using a vitamin C derivative, rather than L-ascorbic acid.
I agree with A Giles- azelaic acid is pretty friendly and plays well with most actives. Makes it a very unique acid. I think I'd apply the ordinary 8% Vitamin C Serum first, give it a minute to absorb, then apply your azelaic acid after that.
@@NOBSBeauty thanks both of you so much!! I bought it yesterday and your advice was what I did today first time I use it. Do you think it will penetrate well through the base of propanediol of the ordinarys vitamin c?
Have u heard of the Balshie MD exfoliatent it's lactic and glycolic but it's like one of the highest glycolic u can get 15% at A pH of 3 I'm thinking of getting its on sale for 15.75 theirs alot of good and some bad but I'm guessing the bad are the ones that don't have experience with exfoliants and did to much to high dose to fast.lol but they have a peptide moisturizer that looks amazing I want. I was looking for a good genes dupe because of course I want it like the only thing with a few bad ingredients I want but it did so good on my skin and I'm debating spending the 85 for an once or getting a set with he .5 half once idk what to do..😔 I don't think the ordinary really did much for me maybe I should try the inkey one choices choices I can't make up my mind . I have the farmacy and the bioscience and they didn't do well for me at all .
Occasionally I use this site (I'll link to) to find dupes for certain products and it can be pretty helpful in finding them. I;ve noticed Good Genes in a few holiday sets so that might be worth checking out- I'll try to find them again. The Site is here: skinskoolbeauty.com/dupes/sunday-riley/good-genes-all-in-one-lactic-acid-treatment-40c44b06
It seems to work well for a lot of people, I liked it, only had one issue with it- for sensitive skin the lavender oil in it can be irritating, but if you don't have sensitive skin then it might work for you just fine.
I have not heard of this brand but this product looks pretty good for an exfoliant- lactic acid, the pH looks to be the right number, other skin hydrating and soothing ingredients- also vegan/cruelty free! Thanks for putting this on my radar- wasn't familar with them until just now!
Is it possible for me to break out with only one use of Good Genes? I’ve been trying to incorporate it into my skincare routine and keep breaking out that night or next day. I have heard so much hype about it but I can’t get past it breaking me out.
It could be, although sometimes skin can react to the low pH of it. The other thing it could be is purging, purging can be commonly occurring with use of exfoliants such as lactic acid. It might be worth trying a lower percentage exfoliant, or for people that experience purging a salicylic acid exfoliant might be the safer way to go.
@@NOBSBeauty yeah I’m not sure what it is but I was using it every day and then I cut back and now every time I use it my chin and entire jawline gets breakouts and they’re like the painful kind. Like everything I use burns on them when it’s all broken out. I’m gonna try G&G mandelic instead. I have such sensitive skin since I hit 40. So weird!
My skin is oily and not very sensitive (actually, I think it may be made out of titanium!). Since I use Retin-A three times/week and "rest" my skin another night, I only have 3 nights/week when I can apply an AHA. I just finished my last bottle of Good Genes, so this video was perfectly timed! My question is this...I really want to use Topical's "Faded" product 3 nights/week. Is there any reason why I can't use an AHA at the same time that I use "Faded"? The Topicals website recommends against it, but it doesn't say why. If I find that I can use an AHA layered alongside "Faded" on the same night without my skin becoming overly sensitive, is there any reason that I can't/shouldn't use this combo? "Faded" is too oily for me to use during the day (besides sunscreen I barely need any moisturizer at all during daytime). Thank you!
The Faded is wonderful! Really great for brightening skin up. I'm guessing Topicals is warning people because it contains Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid- some people can be sensitive to those so using an acid alongside it increases the chances of skin being irritated. I'd say if you are able to use the Faded for a few weeks without any irritation then I think it would probably be okay to add in your AHA. Just keep an eye out for any irritation or sensitivity and if you notice that pull back on the AHA. Also add in the AHA slowly, maybe one day a week for the first month or so just to get your skin acclimated to it. I think you'll probably be just fine adding it in and using it with the Faded.
In a perfect world you would be the most watch beauty channel instead of the ones we currently have.

@@NOBSBeauty thank you face theory might be a good option for me.
Which moisturizers do you think are best to use after applying these exfoliating serums?
I've found going for a simple moisturizer can be best- I am really enjoying cica creams as well as the Cosrx B5 Panthenol Moisturizer. The other one I really enjoy is the Purito Centella Unscented Recovery Cream.

I have to try Inkey list lactic acid. I love Ordinary 10% but hate the packaging. P.S. I agree on the BR. :D
In the uk good genes contains mainly glycolic acid instead of lactic for some reason 🤔
I believe there are some regulations there that won't allow for Lactic Acid to be sold above certain percentages. The Glycolic version is a little nicer, in my opinion.
What are your thoughts on Moon Juice Acid Potion?
If i use Differin, do i still need to use a AHA too? Or do they do the same thing?
Differin is a retinoid and AHA is an exfoliant so they do different things. How long have you been using Differin? I wouldn't start an AHA too soon after you started the Differin, I would let your skin acclimate to the Differin at least 2-3 months, then you could slowly add in an AHA serum. If possible use them alternating evenings. The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% is a great one to start because it is a lower percentage, just be sure to add it in slowly.
Can I mix azelaic acid with vitamin C in the morning?
I do, but I wait between them. The one that comes first is determined by their consistencies. I also believe it works best if you are using a vitamin C derivative, rather than L-ascorbic acid.
@@agiles6483 I use the ordinary 8% C + arbutin 2% (oil format) and azelaic acid 10% from revox (gel-silicone but kinda watery format)
Do you think the Biossance Lactic acid is a good alternative to the Good Genes?🤔
It seems to work well for a lot of people, I liked it, only had one issue with it- for sensitive skin the lavender oil in it can be irritating, but if you don't have sensitive skin then it might work for you just fine.
Your amazing!
Could this be a dupe for SR good genes? Apothaka Gentle enzyme exfoliant - it has similar texture, but not sure about the ingredients.
@@NOBSBeauty Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my question! You are DA BEST! ;)
