- I picked up these This Isnt Bacon rashers from Tesco and I didn't know what to expect. I'm still baffled over the whole product and marketing, if you get their 'trendiness' why don't you leave a comment 😅

It's handy that they clearly label these things 'plant based', as that way you can put it back on the self or straight in the bin.

1. It´s called bacon so that the consumer knows what kind of food to expect, a faux meat subsitute, in this case for bacon.
2. People that dont eat meat dont do it cause they dislike meat. They typically do it because they dislike the meat industry or for health reasons.
What would you have called it if you were selling a fake bacon product?

You could do much of the same marketing with packaging...instead of gibberish on the back, maybe a picture of bacon and some words about how the product is not like bacon. You would still be able to use the word "bacon", except it's as a negative (what this stuff is not). Calling it bacon is clumsy and could be perceived as dishonest.
But it doesn't make sense to call it bacon, bacon is a product derived from a pig, to call it bacon is to insinuate that it is somewhat related to meat! If you would go as far as to market this awful piece of rubbish I would market it much differently. Perhaps lean towards what it is made from, Soya Strips - it would literally be called what it says on the tin. It doesn't taste or look like bacon, to market it as such is an insult, and really deceiving to whomever is unfortunate enough to buy this product.
And secondly, I understand why different people perhaps choose to not eat meat, but if that's the case, and I was so offended by the meat industry why would I want my food to even sound like meat? By name or appearance? Wouldn't that be an automatic no-no as you would not want to be reminded of the things you detest. I get your points but I have to disagree on the basis that this product is marketed stupidly, and whoever wrote the blurb should be sacked for terrible writing.
@@Ratingallthingsfood They are not calling it bacon, it says this is not bacon. It's an easy way to explain that it's a vege, bacon alternative.
Some meat lovers don't eat meat on certain days e.g. Friday's. So, if you want the taste... My beef (no pun intended) is that the actual rashers look nothing like the picture (of bacon) on the pack. It makes great baco bits when cooked crispy.

if its close to bacon or works as an alternative but has lower carbon footprint and is healthier I would consider using this to allow me to have regular bacon butties instead of the occasional treat. and this is why its marketed as a bacon like product. That said if its not close enough to bacon its not going to give the hit needed.

I eat meat but can’t eat bacon (or turkey) but I like the taste so this might be for me.
If you like the taste of bacon 🥓 then I would avoid this product as it tastes nothing like bacon. But if you try this do let me know what you think.
I totally agree with your rating. If the whole experience leaves you with more questions than answers, but it's still eatable...a 1 is respectful. The comparison to dog "treats" is as funny as it is accurate. 😀
Yeah it wasn't the best, I gave it the rating I did because it was edible but just, it was awful - a dog wouldn't go near it 😂 and I didn't understand the marketing at all which massively let it down! Vegan Bacon, never heard of a pig that doesn't contain any pork 😂
Yes the descriptions are absurd. I recall the most extreme was a vegan chicken fillet burger which begs the question How do you fillet a plant or vegetable? It must be like deboning an insect.
I also questioned organic pet food as if the pet has a conscience about the method its food is produced.

A "meat lover" loves meat. Not every one of us are eating real bacon all the time. Its terribly unhealthy. So that is the answer to why a meat lover would buy a meatless product.
If you don't want to eat it then buy vegetables! But don't pass it off as bacon when is not.

@eleanordarcy5971 it shouldn't be on the packet if it's not supposed to be bacon! I always find it strange that a vegan/vegetarian wants to eat something that isn't meat buy has the same name. It makes no sense to me. That's just my opinion. If people who don't eat meat, I don't mind that bit. It's just when they pass the food off as animal flesh when it isn't
@@Ratingallthingsfood interesting because i can’t understand why anyone would care haha, guess we’re both confused. when i made the decision to stop eating meat, it wasn’t from a dislike of meat, it was a personal thing to do with my beliefs. that doesn’t mean i want the inconvenience and frankly boring and difficult task of eating only vegetables. when i make a bacon butty for my boyfriend, i make myself a fake bacon butty. granted i’ve never tried the brand in the video however i have tried others and they do me just fine. i can’t see that it harms anyone, it’s not like anyone’s confusing the two
Dude. Loads of vegans and veggies love meat. They just don’t love the guilt. Stuff like this helps them transition. Stop getting annoyed and chill. It’s not that difficult to grasp. 🫶🏻
Well, it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. If it's not meat, it shouldn't be called it in my opinion I appreciate you have your opinion, and that's great, but I won't change my view. And by the way, a lot of vegetarian stuff I love, even the vegetarian quorn nuggets, are better than chicken nuggets In my opinion it doesn't taste like chicken but is better. But trying to pass a meatless product as meat, I don't agree with it. Thank you for your comment

Because they've cut it like bacon and used bacon in the description, which even though it says its not bacon why feel the need to put that as they are entailing that it tastes like bacon. Some vegans are unbelievable the lengths they will go to 🤯
