@@jungleboy1 Yes, I think microwave is more energy efficient but maybe that's a subject for another episode! We just like it done as quickly as possible but with a crispy skin so, the microwave/air fryer combo works for us.
What I recently tried out is frying potatoes, used to always preboil those, not necessary. I cut them into sort of bite sized pieces, 1 tbsp oil, coat the pieces, 10 mins on 200C, shake and check, few more minutes if necessary. Season before or after frying
I put potatoes on blast in the microwave for 3 minutes, then air fry for 5, split them, empty the carcass, mix with mayonnaise, diced chervil, salt, pepper, refill the potatoes and air fry for another five minutes. Last minute add shredded cheese, beautiful double baked potatoes. The misses adores them.
Regarding getting food out of the air fryer and the grill falling out, there's a simple technique using a fork, just slide the fork's teeth in one of the outer holes of the grill and lift it using the fork as a lever. It's super easy, only use a single fork so no extra dirty dishes, and prevent pouring out the oils and fats at the same time.

Hi Barry, great video. I always put my jacket potatoes in the oven with a metal kebab skewer through the middle of them so the middle of the potato is always cooked even if they are big spuds. Yum.
Barry, you have to try baked (air fried) camembert! Get a baking camembert, cut a 1-2 cm grid into the top, drizzle some honey, sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic and rosemary (use fresh if you have it but dried works too). Air fry for 12 minutes at 180°C, serve with sourdough bread, YUM.
If you have an appropriate sized ramekin or something like that to put it in, even better (we have a dip brand that comes in a ceramic pot about the right size) just so you’re not having to deal with a semi-liquid Camembert trying to escape through the grill
@@Hudson316 That's a good idea if your baking camembert comes only wrapped in paper. Here it usually comes in a thin wooden tray - you're supposed to unwrap the cheese and put it back in the tray for baking and serving. Occasionally, usually around xmas, it comes in a ceramic ramekin - that's what I bought about a decade ago and have been using ever since.
I just done honey roasted parsnips with carrots last night, 200C, ~20 minutes Make sure to make them small bites so they cook through and get all soft, it was so goooood If you have a silicone tray insert, I suggest that, put your pasnips and carrots in, get a spatula and some oil, mix them around. Eventually they'll brown up and become soft, it's genuinely so nice
You can put a little bit of water in the bottom of the air fryer for baked potatoes, imo it makes it softer in the middle and once the water evaporates hit it with some butter and seasoning then the skin starts to crisp
I did a Thai cooking course a few years ago. The teacher taught us to top and tail peppers, you can then pop the stalk out of the top. Then you cut around the white membrane bits in the middle so that all of the seeds drop out with the core. You can then chop the pepper (and the top and tail) into strips - zero waste!!

For myself, an air fryer will probably never take my InstantPot's place when it comes to boiled eggs XD But, then again, I've got the time dialed in perfectly for soft, medium, and hard-boiled eggs with that. Honestly, whether you're working with an InstantPot, an air fryer, or even your own hob, it is all about learning the way of cooking that works. Every piece of equipment is going to work differently, even within a group (like air fryers, hobs, etc.), and you've simply got to learn the one you've got.
Thank you, Barry. Never thought of doing peppers in the old Ninja before but I will this weekend. Still cannot believe these airfryer manufacturers don't do magentic trays. I'm fed up with ours falling out when we try to tip out oven chips.
re Baked Potatoes. I always give them 5 minutes in the microwave before wrapping in foil and going into the oven. I think this would work for the air fryer too and further reduce the cooking time. I am going to try it. This video is excellent.
For me your jacket potato method was half right....put them in the microwave (depending on size) for 10-20 mins then put them in air fryer... best of both worlds
I like how this exact air fryer seems to go from a "54 quid air fryer" to a "40 quid air fryer" to now a "30 quid air fryer". Barry out here accounting for equipment depreciation 😂
I love airfried jacket potatoes. I microwave them first for 5 mins them airfry them for about 12 mins. They come out the same as yours but much, much quicker!
Hi Barry can I suggest baking potato nails rather than a fork for baked potatoes. They'd food grade & more evenly conduct heat end to end all the way through rather than the heat getting concentrated in one spot with a fork. It does shave off a small amount of time & allows the center to cook beautiful & fluffy without having to cook them so long the skin gets leathery. This is especially helpful for large baking potatoes like russets
We love our Cosori 5.8 qt Air Fryer. It is absolutely fabulous for chicken breasts (great to use chopped for salad), as you noted, but also a full roast chicken, too. Grilled cheese sandwiches with an addition of deli meat is as wonderful as plain grilled cheese, everything gets hot and lovely. An open sandwich with a thicker bread roll is also fab from the air fryer, just close it up after cooking to have the crunchy fluffy roll with melty hot inside. We do potato wedges and yam fries. For the frozen tater tots, the air fryer gets a much more wonderful crispness with fluffy inside better than the oven and faster. We like the air fryer for re-heating left-over pizza so much more than the microwave. I love my bagels from the air fryer, 380F for 3 mins for the perfect outside toasting with inside chewy fluffy. We finally got our air fryer last November and use it at least once a day. We both wonder why we didn't get it sooner. It has replaced a toaster oven and conventional toaster and we've considered getting a second for the times when you want to cook more than one thing, like for a bigger dinner where you want to have more than one oven going.
I was an early adopter. We are on our 3rd air fryer at this point, so I know quite a bit about them. Got a nice Ninja dual one this time around and it's been the best one. Only downside is there are 2 baskets, so you can't cook like a whole chicken, but Cornish game hens fit great 👍 I only do my bacon in there. Some things like reheating pizza slices you want to do it at a lower temp for a bit longer and get the cheese melts and not brown and crispy. Chicken breast, pork chops work great but I personally don't do anything like steak because I like it seared, but you can use it to finish the steak off, if it's thick, instead of heating up your oven. Can do quite a bit. Fries are okay in there, but you have to add some oil. I keep a bottle of olive oil in a sprayer for that. People say you can just throw in frozen fries but you need some oil. Without oil they usually end up pretty dry. Last one I use all the time is for baked potatoes. You can cook the whole thing in there but can take 45 mins to an hour or what I do now, start it in the microwave and then use the air fryer to finish the outside and make it crispy 👍😁
If you don't want to play about with air fryers and just want a really good one you'll have for years. The ninja Flexi drawer is brilliant. Instead of it having two drawers it's got one big one you can divide. It's soo good I don't use my oven any more. Having one massive drawer makes the difference compared to these ones with small drawers. I have a big metal pan I put in the drawer and when heated up you can actually fry stuff in it yet keep the drawer clean too. Plus it goes to 240c rather than the cheaper ones that only go to 200
The "grilled" cheese looks more like a nice cheesy garlic bread kind of thing. I'd personally stick to a pan for a grilled cheese (for that ooey gooey texture), but that crunch you got is super nice when you want something different!
I bet this air fryer version would be superior for soup dipping, but looks like a cheese crouton to me lol. To me, the best grilled cheese is like good French toast: the bread is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with lots of buttery goodness lol.
One thing I want to try to figure out how to do is grill corn on the cob in the air fryer. I got a mild addiction to Elotes before the Mexican place near me closed and I would absolutely love to figure out how to make them myself (I’m pretty sure it’s basically grilled corn, mayo and crumbled cheese similar to like ricotta, and then sprinkled with paprika)
You really dated yourself there Barry with the Vengaboys comment! 😄The 90s was such a hoot, I really miss those days! 😁👍 I LOVE making chicken breasts in my air fryer, as a lazy sod I love anything that makes cooking easy, and the air fryer is one of the best things I've bought in a long time! 😛
For the potatoes, cook them in the microwave, then throw them in the air fryer to crisp them up! We do it all the time. Takes 10 minutes all together. And YUM!
Yes! I do this when I make roasted potatoes. Cut into chunks or wedges. Microwave about 8 minutes. Toss into air fryer with a little oil and butter, lots of minced garlic and salt. Yum! They get so nice and crispy on the outside. Saves so much time!
Well, the baked potatoe sold me on the air fryer. The others, not so much. I am now going to try and find your other video for the 5 things you like in the air fryer. Have a good evening!
You can get air fryers with glass drawers now - I’ve seen one on Amazon and I want to get one of those for my next one so I can see what’s going on without opening it. Plus they’re meant to be easier to clean.
Dealz or Poundland sell round tin trays that fit perfect in round air fryers. 4.2L minimum. They are perfect for cooking food in that otherwise would be covering the air fryer basket in messy greasy grease, No washing up. Pack of 5 for like 1 pound is all they are. Wish I knew this tip years ago lol. Also, might wanna consider a silicone baking try, does the same thing those are washable and even better
I get the paper liners made for the fryers. They come in different sizes. I don’t use them all the time though as you really want the air to circulate under to help cooking.
Thank you for the vid! You're my favourite TH-camr, and I look forward to each and every video. I received bad news regarding a family member today, so your video was much needed ❤
The only thing missing from that baked spud is it being stuffed. Mmmm, stuffed spud with sour cream, cheese, pineapple, bits of bacon, YUM! There's a roadside vendor here in Western Australia near me which does a really really nice stuffed spud :D
Growing up, dad would frequently sauté onions until brown and crispy, and I would literally eat them until I started feeling ill from the frying oil. That's not a grilled cheese, that's a grilled crouton lol. Nothing beats my vintage 70's sandwich maker for a grilled cheese, even makes a great grilled reuben. My potato preference is baby Dutch Yellow potatoes, oven baked at 425 F, on a sheet pan greased with coconut oil, and sprinkled liberally with spices about halfway through cooking. Feeling fancy? Smash them when they're done, sprinkle with parmesan, heat to melt cheese, flip, and cook until crispy. Do both sides, may work with other cheeses, IDK. I enjoyed this. I always appreciate when people teach cooking methods versus recipes. This video teaches how to cook vs. how to make a specific dish, empowering watchers to make their own creations.
We only ever do our Jacket potatoes in our air fryer now :) Works brilliantly. I do it on higher power for 15-20 mins then turn it down to around 160 for an hour. In fact, I cannot remember the last time we used our oven, we actually just use it for storing our pans in haha!! (we have the ninja mini oven air fryer and the 2 drawer one. We do also have the round Maxi one, but only really need to have 3 our if we need to cook a load of food like at christmas. That one has a pressure cooker lid as well - but we've never managed to get it to work properly lol)
For quick and easy boiled eggs we’ve always used an old kettle. Put the water in add your eggs and bring to the boil. When the kettle clicks off start your timer for usual (4 mins for our size eggs from the cupboard) time. When your time is up empty the kettle and put the eggs in cold water as usual. Obviously your toast can be cooked in the same 4 minutes.
Hi barry. Love watching all your vids. I've just moved into my 1 bedsit bungalow. Kitchen areas pretty small so all of my appliances are mini barr kettle, microwave and fridge/freezer thats normal sized. I have the 2 hob electric stove, compact slow cooker, toasty maker and a quest 9L mini oven. i've done more on the hob but have done 2 meals in the mini oven so far. Can you do a video on the mini appliances i've mentioned. Please and thankyou. Leon . 🙏😊🇬🇧xx
Even before I got my air fryers I would microwave the potatoes for about 5-6 minutes per side, then oil and season with salt and pepper and then crisped them up in a very hot oven, now I do the same with my air fryer, tastes just as good as fully cooking them in the oven but is way faster ❤❤
I love micro baking. I've cooked Marie Calenders big pot pies that way. I'd cook it 2/3 of the way in the microwave & then pop it into a hot oven. Cuts down on so much time. But I do confirm it gets hot enough with a food thermometer. That was my best cooking purchase ever. Now I don't over cook my meat like my mom did. Although that was because she wanted her grilled burger more done than me. She even sent my cousin out to cook hers more once.
Canned new potatoes, slap what ever flavour seasoning you like on them, air fry 200 for 15 mins and you will have bite sized little crispy balls off heaven.
I’m so please you didn’t microwave the potatoes first. It seems to be a standard tip/hack, but I did some A-B comparisons because like you I love the sweetness a proper slow baked potatoes. Microwaving first just gets moisture out and makes them worse. The way you did them (I do them a bit lower and slower) gives you a lovely skin, which when it’s really good is the best part.
I usually do baked potatoes in my combination microwave it takes 17 minutes approximately and you get crispy. I love the idea of peppers in air fryer. For a better fried cheese sandwich a air fryer with bottom elements as well as top would be better.
My panasonic combi oven does amazing baked potatoes it can do 4 at a time at 230'c with the grill and Microwave at 20% power in 45mins and they come out really crispy and really fluffy in the centre . My parents have method too which involves the air fryer and microwave which comes out good as well 10-12 mins in the microwave to cook the potato then finish it off in the air fryer to crisp up for i think 20-25mins.
‘I don’t like boiled eggs but Mrs B does - she can eat/use it later’ and then he just drops the open egg in the water 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ only good for the food waste bin now Barry!! Oh and why are you surprised every time the tray falls out when you basically tip the basket upside down!!! Every time I was shouting no no no - knowing the tray would most definitely fall out!
I like to combine cooking methods for somethings. Jacked spuds, 8 mins in the microwave and then crispen the skin in the AF. Meat gets done sous vide (in my Cosori pressure cooker), for a consistent perfect cook. You then have an au jus gravy base in the bag to finish on the hob, while you brown the meat in the AF.
I've done jacket potatoes in the microwave and then oiled and in the air fryer for 10-15 minutes to crisp up the outside if you're really looking to save some time.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
did you notice, when cooking a lot of things one after the other, the times need slightly reducing because of how hot the airfry already is? or has it completely cooled down inbetween each recipe? I also do toasties, but use a bit of parchment/greaseproof paper to stop it sticking and make it easy to handle
Baked spuds in the air fryer have become my goto easy meal. I love them but never had the time or patience to oven bake. Having an air fryer that can go up to 230/240C really helps for a super crispy skin
The absolute best way to make any kind of egg in-shell is sous vide. There's a chart out there on the internet showing the specific temperatures you can set the machine to, and the associated time for safety, to get a truly baffling range of textures and doneness for the eggs.
I've done 'Hard Boiled' eggs LOTS of times in my air fryer... Not sure if I have it set too high (200F, so... 95C?) or I do it too long, but they seem to always come out with singed/burnt edges, where the air pocket is, and rubbery white. The IRONIC thing is I'm making myself and air fried baked potato tomorrow!!!
15:06 this is almost my favorite way to eat grilled cheese, I like to put only bread, butter and cheese, no other bread on top, the cheese gets crispy and melted
After watching you cooking the potatoes, I'm wondering if you could half that cooking time by starting them in the microwave then frying them. I've don't that for oven baked potatoes for awhile now, 5-7 in the microwave on medium-high then 20 mins in oven and theyvare crispy and done to near perfect for me. Just wondering now
I can't recall, have you ever made deviled eggs? Great way to fall in love with hard-boiled eggs. Boiled eggs are also a nice, almost necessary ingredient in a potato salad. Personally, I love egg salad sandwiches made with Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise. Cheers from Minnesota!
Baked potatoes in the air fryer is the best way to do them. I have done oven. toaster oven, and air fryer and when eaten straight away, they are so fluffy and soft.
Made a lovely, omelet, I suppose, in my cheap airfryer. Needs a bit of oil on top at the end, to keep the top from burning, but the insides properly cooked. Some, frozen wok vegetables, bits of sausage, meatballs, what have you. Very nice.

HEY kislux !! I have been watching you for years and im so proud of where you have made it! I love you so much! Also thanks for making my day
For me your jacket potato method was half right....put them in the microwave (depending on size) for 10-20 mins then put them in air fryer... best of both worlds
I like how this exact air fryer seems to go from a "54 quid air fryer" to a "40 quid air fryer" to now a "30 quid air fryer".
Barry out here accounting for equipment depreciation 😂
I am basing my £20 air fryer purely on depreciation as you say lol
Maybe that Air Fryer was made by Alfa Romeo, which is why it depreciates that fast?
Hi Barry from Canada! I recently made meatballs in my airfryer and they were great!
Howdy! Sounds good, poutine next?
Have you thought about using a spoon or a pair of tongs instead of launching it across the room every time?
I was thinking this the whole way through then laughed out loud when Barry pulled out a pair of tongs right towards the end of the video
Perfect crispy baked potato..... 8 minutes in the microwave, then 14 minutes at 200 degree air fry. 22 mins total.... very crispy works every time.
I love airfried jacket potatoes. I microwave them first for 5 mins them airfry them for about 12 mins. They come out the same as yours but much, much quicker!
There are parchment paper liners and silicon liners to make cleanup easier.
I love my Air Fryer more than any other appliance. The Instant Pot comes in second.
For the carrots try butter and some brown sugar
Yes mate!
Parsnips with a bit of thyme n honey works too
If you don't want to play about with air fryers and just want a really good one you'll have for years. Plus it goes to 240c rather than the cheaper ones that only go to 200
Oooh, that's like pizza baking temp on the high end! Ever try baking pizza from scratch in it?
The "grilled" cheese looks more like a nice cheesy garlic bread kind of thing. I'd personally stick to a pan for a grilled cheese (for that ooey gooey texture), but that crunch you got is super nice when you want something different!
I bet this air fryer version would be superior for soup dipping, but looks like a cheese crouton to me lol. To me, the best grilled cheese is like good French toast: the bread is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with lots of buttery goodness lol.
With jacket spuds, I put them in the micro for like 5 mins either side and then oil and season them and put in the air fryer for 10 mins or so.
Was it really that difficult to call it a microwave?
Best cooking show on TH-cam for me✌️
One thing I want to try to figure out how to do is grill corn on the cob in the air fryer. I got a mild addiction to Elotes before the Mexican place near me closed and I would absolutely love to figure out how to make them myself (I’m pretty sure it’s basically grilled corn, mayo and crumbled cheese similar to like ricotta, and then sprinkled with paprika)
The mechanical timer can sometimes stick on the cheaper air fryers, so don't leave them unattended
You really dated yourself there Barry with the Vengaboys comment! 😄The 90s was such a hoot, I really miss those days! 😁👍
I LOVE making chicken breasts in my air fryer, as a lazy sod I love anything that makes cooking easy, and the air fryer is one of the best things I've bought in a long time! 😛
haha gotta love a bit of the Vengaboys!
@@mrbarrylewis absolutely! 😁👍
I laughed out loud at that remark- kinda startled my cat!
I love your character, you're funny and entertaining.
Another great video so thankyou...
Microwave potatoes 10 mins to get the heat inside and then put in the air fryer for less time.
@@sussudioharvey9458 Ooh, Must look out for them. Thank you
What we do at our house is start the Jacket Potato in the Microwave and then finish them off in the Air Fryer to get the crispy coat.
Thank you for the vid! You're my favourite TH-camr, and I look forward to each and every video. I received bad news regarding a family member today, so your video was much needed ❤
Awesome Video Barry Lewis🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
The grilled cheese makes me wonder about if French toast would work in the air fryer. It’s quite a bit wetter but a similar idea.
I'd be afraid it would weld itself to the fryer basket with the egg
Sliced roasted carrots tossed in oil and dusted with ranch seasoning powder is delicious and my favorite air fryer treat
Get a dual blaze airfryer with heat element on top/bottom. No shaking is involved.
Couldn’t live without my air fryer now
The only thing missing from that baked spud is it being stuffed. Mmmm, stuffed spud with sour cream, cheese, pineapple, bits of bacon, YUM! There's a roadside vendor here in Western Australia near me which does a really really nice stuffed spud :D
Yum! How long will it take me to travel from Tassie to WA?!!
First started watching you on Facebook and I'm a big fan, now over to TH-cam
Canned new potatoes, slap what ever flavour seasoning you like on them, air fry 200 for 15 mins and you will have bite sized little crispy balls off heaven.
Cool vid, I only got an air fryer yesterday so I'm yet to test it.
Thanks for the video Barry
I’m so please you didn’t microwave the potatoes first. It seems to be a standard tip/hack, but I did some A-B comparisons because like you I love the sweetness a proper slow baked potatoes. Microwaving first just gets moisture out and makes them worse. The way you did them (I do them a bit lower and slower) gives you a lovely skin, which when it’s really good is the best part.
Atomic shrimp vibes over at the baby carrots segment 😊
I usually do baked potatoes in my combination microwave it takes 17 minutes approximately and you get crispy. I love the idea of peppers in air fryer. For a better fried cheese sandwich a air fryer with bottom elements as well as top would be better.
Honey roast parsnips come out really good in air fryer
Cosori TurboBlaze Air Fryer is great, I love mine !
That was the first one I bought for £45, will have to dig it out of the cupboard and bake some spuds (with bacon) in it!
Oh Barry! You should have used the bacon grease as your oil for extra flavor!
did you notice, when cooking a lot of things one after the other, the times need slightly reducing because of how hot the airfry already is? or has it completely cooled down inbetween each recipe?
I also do toasties, but use a bit of parchment/greaseproof paper to stop it sticking and make it easy to handle
Baked spuds in the air fryer have become my goto easy meal. I love them but never had the time or patience to oven bake. Having an air fryer that can go up to 230/240C really helps for a super crispy skin
The absolute best way to make any kind of egg in-shell is sous vide. There's a chart out there on the internet showing the specific temperatures you can set the machine to, and the associated time for safety, to get a truly baffling range of textures and doneness for the eggs.
I'm definitely trying that chicken
Some get tips for your air fryer & thanks Barry 😜👍
Made a lovely, omelet, I suppose, in my cheap airfryer. Needs a bit of oil on top at the end, to keep the top from burning, but the insides properly cooked. Some, frozen wok vegetables, bits of sausage, meatballs, what have you. Very nice.
I am a new subscriber fantastic videos well done mate
