@@CalicoSkiesSailing Now you are just advertising!!!!! You just lost a advocate for your adventure 😭👎
Showing the trip stats on the screen and the music you selected as you were arriving made me very emotional. With all you have been through over the last couple of years and the hard work you put in to make this trip, you deserve all of the joy of the islands. Have fun and congratulations!!!
Those were good stats, too!
😍🍾
Truly an amazing episode as these seasoned sailors explore their inner most feelings arriving after a grueling 21,2 day voyage to French Polynesia from Mexico. We are all thrilled with delight that they conquered their fears to complete their dream aboard Calico Skies, such an unfiltered passage, one which has inspired us all. Thank you both for showing the essence of sailing the Pacific on a 36ft boat.
I hear the goats only come out to greet the cool people.. lol A long 3 weeks finally over, I can only imagine the stress relief to finally be at anchor again, the thought of real sleep in your near future... to quote Sierra Woo Hoo!
The ‘Essential Calico Skies’ collection includes this episode!
I am filled with emotions and lost for words at this film and what you created here. It’s such an inspiration
wow thank you for the kind feedback! We are always so grateful for the support of our patrons!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing in addition, if you are in following sea’s please put the companionway boards in place.
You brave the high seas to bring us beautiful sights. Thank you.
😍
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have reason to be proud. Celebrate!!!!
Thank u!!! 🥳
Part of an exclusive club... Braved the Pacific... Well done...
a massive congratulations to you both and to calico skies for taking you guys to the other side of the world. very happy for you
Grace, the look on your face said it all !! You're all lit up!🤩. What an awesome accomplishment. Rolly waves, broken bits and all, you did it. Calico Skies looks in great shape and the world is your oyster, congratulations ❤❤
Thanks Jim! So much relief and joy at our new cruising grounds!
Wow congratulations what a sail for the 2 of you. I'm absolutely amazed how you did what you just did. Im 51 but one day one day.
Your conversation about carrying the tension was so spot on. You prepare for as many things as possible, but there is always that concern for what can go wrong. Especially when you are thousands of miles from land and civilization. You guys just made a massive crossing. I hope for the best for you guys. Enjoy your adventures!
Thank you!
Bravo Bill and Grace!! Such a wonderful video; loved the waves and arriving with you. Enjoy paradise!! ⛵💟🏝
Thank u so much!
I like the stop action so we could understand the McGiver fix on the pole and the red arrow on the instrument panel.
So happy to see that y’all made it safe and sound. God bless you both.
Congratulations on a well executed passage! Average speed 5.9, no bad.
The great experience afterward makes all the uncertainty and tough times go away. I love ocean sailing
for sure! we always say long distance sailors have a short term memory haha
Congrats! After the last couple of years you've had you deserve it.
😍
WOW, A truly awesome episode with jaw dropping beautiful scenery and the ups and downs that comes with a crossing of this magnitude...A HUGE congratulations to all three of you🙌🙌🥂🥂
Good for you. Congratulation Bill and Grace!
The Pacific has this iconic beautiful deep Royal Blue 😍 you show, in sight of land 👍
Thank you.❤
Our pleasure!
Simply the most genuine sharing of the most amazing accomplishment of courage and stamina!
You've gained my upmost respect. Congratulations!!
thank you!
Congratulations 🍾🎈🎊 ⛵️⛵️⛵️🍾 you both look exhausted and happy for getting back on land 👍🥰🥰⛵️⛵️
Thank u ☺️
Congratulations Calico - nice sailing !
Good job, long and salty sail. Well done, have fun!
Congratulations on an epic crossing
Congrats on a safe crossing.
Thank u!
I have been watching your videos the past few months. You are doing an awesome job telling the story. However, I noticed a few things on your video making your landfall. You said the you were in a 26 kts. squall. You said that you got pooped by a wave. You did a good job getting the headsail off the pole to help the ride. What I don’t understand is why you are in the cockpit un-teathered while in the cockpit. If either one of you happen to lose your balance and fall overboard you would be in huge issues as you probably won’t be able to rescue the other. Also, if Grace is having seasickness DON’T go below as she will be worse off. Please be more cautious at all times. I have raced sailboats all my life, and have been in much more serious conditions.
Congratulations on your successful crossing!
Thank u 🙏🏼
SOOO BLUE
A welcomed land in sight … good on you both 🇨🇦 ❤
Very cool!
Fantastic well done to you both all the best.
Can't imagine how epic this is in person! It's stunning on video. Just the smell of tropical land alone must be such a sensory experience. I never tire of videos of sailing folks arriving after a 3 week Pacific crossing. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a pretty surreal experience!
Awesome navigation to arrive at that small island. The best video of the week. Well done you two👏
Thanks so much!
congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!... well sailed!
So happy for you both. Congratulations on your ocean crossing. Grace a word of caution, please take this gently, it might be good for you to stay away from alcohol. It is known to increase your risk of Cancer, it is also a depressant. Talking from experience, I have so much more fun without it in my system. It concerns me that you were sick pretty well the whole crossing. Your body was trying to detox. With everything your body has been through the past couple of years, please let it heal. Enjoy the life you have.
very true!
ole you made it great sailing
Thank u!
Wow you actually could see the waves in this video. And they were big. I've never really had the opportunity to experience the smell of land after crossing an Ocean. Everytime I see it happening I'm amazed on the reactions of those experiencing it. Congrats making it across and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Catch you in the next video
always surprising when the camera can capture the waves lol
Huge congrats to the both of you for this amazing accomplishment!
🎉
WooHoo! Land! 🙂 Glad you made it safely, and what a gorgeous place. Can't wait till you start to explore the island.
Can't wait!
You made it and so did your friends. I understand why you would want to just sit and look .it is beautiful. I have a thought. you cook with flame in side the boat. why couldn't you of cooked the bacon and eggs on the grill outside it would of been cooler and not hot and stuffy 🤔 just a thought. use your fryin pan outside on the grill when it's hot down below.
The wind is so bad we could not hear you. Voiceovers would help so much. Thank You for your videos.
Congratulations!
Thank u ☺️
Good job folks.
Congratulations - what an adventure! So happy for the two of you!
Thanks so much!
Congratulations! I think you're in the most beautiful spot on Earth! The sunshine is so pretty there. Be sure to capture the golden, afternoon light on your videos! Have fun!!!
We’ve been filming up a storm, can’t wait to share it all!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing I'm looking forward to seeing it for sure! I can't get enough of that rural beauty. I'm so happy for you. You deserve this after all you've been thru.🌺

And to think, u are just a dot in the middle of nowhere WOW A dream come true.
Good on ya. 😊
Thank you! The smells... What made this realistic was that I could "smell" the unshowered BILL! Looking forward to your land adventures.
I had I have the same problem it turned out to be my electric compass
CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🍾🎈 You made the Pacific crossing. Y. E. A. H. 🎉 Looking forward to the debrief after some food, shower and some rest. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
Terrific video. Good videos of the waves. After sailing 7500 nMiles last year, crossing the Pacific and being in 3-4 meter waves, I think one of the most dangerous things might be getting 'pooped' washed with a large wave from behind that shoots right down the companion way. In all those waves, distance, storms, we caught waves only a couple of times in the dinghy hanging off the back. Waves coming over the bows and even the saloon and dodger were common. So pooping waves seem to be extremely rare. The first one some sailors might see after years sailing might be the one that sinks the boat and them leaving no trace. I think it might be good practice to keep an eye aft and if the sugar scoop is getting washed pretty good -- maybe close the companion way -- just in case.
The digital compass might need a reset, or a readjustment. I noticed when I sailed my boat away from the marina where I'd bought it that the digital compass was 180° wrong. I googled and asked... No information. Talking with the previous owner... I'm pretty sure it hadn't 'just happened' when I sailed away. Finally I had some techs aboard. They looked up the Raymarine instructions online. (I could never find these, or even a mention that they existed. Calling Raymarine was utterly useless. Said my unit was too old (20 years). And yet the techs in less than five minutes zeroed it in.
I'm pretty good with math, but adding and subtracting 180° is just too difficult.
On my boat I have a 'Flux Gate Compass' it's almost directly below the binnacle and very close to the engine -- so I don't think it's magnetic. It's still a black box to me... but when I find some info on the blogs I'll come up to speed. This may be where your compass problems reside. (Don't forget your smart phone has GPS and a pretty good compass in it. If I was going to reset a major instrument using it, I'd restart the phone. Sometimes on my iPhone it gets out of whack.
On my new B&G chartplotter/radar package.... the chartplotter does almost nothing (it's like a weak version of the Navionics App but with radar. Trying to find out why the radar can't track targets, after ten days of Googling (Google is becoming almost useless. I found a $600 or $2500 unit that seems to be required. Also "Acquire Targets" has been replaced with "Watch Targets" but no where on their website or in the manual does it say this.
There's a GPS in the chartplotter, but... apparently I need something like the flux gate before any of it really works.
I'm beefing a lot, but I have four full months of 24/day sailing using B&G -it's still a complete pain. It's got 4-5 'menu' buttons some on the screen that all do similar things. It's not at all intuitive.
Autopilot is critical. I know a lot of people, some with very expensive boats who this is the bane of their sailing life. If it's over worked, doesn't have stops or cushions at the extremes, the autopilot will break. The most important first step is to balance the sails so the boat doesn't immediately head up or down. I'm lucky, the people who bought my boat from Hunter were engineers, a lot of upgrades including a Whitlock steering system -- all stainless steel shafts and gear boxes. A solid shaft for the rudder. No cables or quadrant. My old autopilot is bullet proof. They also installed a Hyrdovane. Good luck.
What a gift to be able to share such a life with each other. It is epic to watch and I hope you appreciate each other. Great videos!!
Thank u ☺️
congrats

FAntastic, first sighting of land in 21 days. Congrats on your exhausting 21 day passage, enjoy a bit of rest and a walk on a beach. Cheers!!!
Hey guys , another great video, that view when you anchored , after the season. Bill you look tired lol Grace loved that smile when u saw land . Missed the last 2 episodes, going 5o watch ,as weeks, love from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks much!!! 🤗
Huge congratulations! You all have worked so hard and overcome so many obstacles to get across the Pacific! Really well done!
Thank u!
Belated congrats Guys!!!
gracias!
You did it splendidly! Calico delivered you safely with your guidance. Congrats! ❤️
Thank u :)
Good on you guys!
Thank you!!! 😍
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Congrats to you both, this is the completion of a huge journey that really started a year before you even set sail.
Thank u so much!
Wonderful episode. This is truly an outstanding accomplishment and incredible new beginning. A crossing like this lives on through destiny. Highest Blessings
Windvane. We self steered for days without touching anything but the vane angle. Steers by the apparent wind, better than you can. Needs no power. Worth every penny
Absoulutly Excellent !!! That was a great Video guys, you could feel the tension leave from you guys as soon as you came closer to land, Its a feeling seeing land for the first time after 21 days that most will never feel or have, looking forward to more videos :)
So glad u enjoyed it! We are happy!!
You really captured the thoughts that occur to anyone who, as Bill said, is not entirely crazy and doing a big passage.
The advice about not letting your guard down towards the end just because you’re nearly at the destination rang especially true and it is the same advice that my elder brother gave me 40 years ago, just before I left to do the big jump across to the Marquesas.
He’d done it nearly ten years before and they broke the gooseneck, thanks to an unplanned gybe as a squall hit when they were less than 24 hours from the end.
He admitted that they’d decided to have a “one day to go” feast, knowing that they’d have fresh food soon, and were all below while it was being served up, the only time that there hadn’t been anyone above deck since departure.
It hurt the main quite badly and ripped the lower 15’ of riveted-on track out of their mast. Not fun to deal with in 30ish knots of wind and much the same sea state as you encountered during the last couple of days.
He broke a finger and managed to dislocate his thumb in the ensuing sh’fight, so his warning was well validated as a lesson hard learned.
I made it across much as you did, beautiful conditions for the most part and just those iffy seas a day or two out from the end. I think they’re more or less a fixture tbh, a lot of other people I knew met them too.
It really is one of the most epic landfalls, made so much more intense by the absence of anything but the vastness of the ocean for such a long time. You captured it beautifully, especially the wish to just sit on the boat, finally peaceful at anchor, drinking it in with all your senses heightened to it by the contrast of the preceding weeks underway.
Well done both of you and thank you for making these wonderful videos that have allowed so many people to travel with you, some to relive experiences of their younger days, some to see the world through a sailor’s eyes and perhaps have the yen to travel the world by boat lit in their souls.
Stay safe, well and happy.
Cheers! R. 😎👍🍻
yikes!
Yeah Baybeee!!. I'm sure you're both overwhelmed. Both exhausted and relieved to have met your goals, for this point.
Now, rest up and prepare to enjoy what you're going encounter from here out.
Cheers!
Grace you were Really Funny and Real in this one. You were nowhere to be found...I was wondering " Hello Bill...she didn't slip?"... then your appearance. I thought " Yikes, she's got THAT LOOK..." freshly emptied stomach". Then it's a carnival ride and your filming with THAT look...A TROOPER people...if you've never experienced it...unimaginable. then you See Land....and WHOOSH... your smiling said it all...like Nite and Day. Belated congradulations. Great #'s on your trip Captn.
This made me chuckle! I always aim to keep it real 😜 Sometimes the rough weather gets the best of me but I think being sick was the real issue on this one. Oh well alls well that ends well! Hugs i
It's great that we saw Delos there not too long ago and now you 2.
Glad you both are safe.
Enjoy your new location. Lots more to sail and see.
Thank u ☺️
Woohoo, Pacific ocean crossing, ✅

Never a doubt. You both had this nailed after all that prep. Congrats and blessings!

Thank u Lois :) Thank u for following our journey ❤️
Congrats 🎊🎉 what an amazing view as you approached the island for a reward. Looking forward to you exploring
Thank u 🙏🏼
I loved this! It was "The storm before the calm" type of situation. Opposite of the old saying. And, it is kind of funny how when you got close to land you felt relieved. Well, heck, humans are land animals so SURE we love seeing land after many days at sea. LOL I can only imagine how it feels to see land after many days at sea. 8 - O Since I sail on my local lakes I can always see land! So, what do I know? Hahaha
It was such a relief to go from big swells to calm anchorage!
Great to see you at land!! The adventures await. I'm looking forward to this chapter.
☺️
