365 days I crewed on sailboats from San Diego, USA all the way down to Panama, stopping in Mexico and Costa Rica. After Panama crossing the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand stopping at islands like the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji
45 days I traveled through New Zealand from the Northernmost point to the Southernmost point, then
100 days I traveled by motorbike through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, then
365 days I traveled in my self-built campervan from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, then
365 days I traveled with this van through Iran and Pakistan, then
180 days I built an off-grid log cabin in the woods in Spain, then
180 days I restored an old sailboat in Guatemala, then
365 days I traveled with this sailboat from Guatemala to Honduras, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Grenada and more islands in the East Caribbean

I’m glad you two are ok. I’m saying a prayer for those who were hit and have lost everything. I’ve survived well over a dozen hurricanes living in Florida. Some were a bunch of nothing and one destroyed the roof of my house. All were very stressful !

Marrying someone you barely know is the worst idea ever. Most marriages end in divorce as is, best to wait several years before such a commitment.
It doesn't matter if you've been together for one year or ten years. Life can always change. And finding a woman who loves all this is probably the best thing that can happen. So yes, I would, too.
In fact, I have also done that with my wife (who is Brazilian). But remember, she will not get a Dutch passport directly anyway, so it just improves the situation a bit. Believe me, I know what it means from my own experience ;)

Huub and Daniela, So glad you both are safe. Was a bit worried you were still in Grenada. What a hassle with all the immigration stuff. Gotta be a better system that's consistent throughout the area. What beautiful smiles you both had seeing each other.
You two are doing what we dreamed of 35 years ago and never did. We are looking at sailing again in retirement.
Safe sailing , keep the heavy side down, but not too far down.

Too bad that your frustrations were caused by “people “ and largely artificial. Thank you for updating us. Enjoy that pizza & movie and forget about that other stuff. I have made improvements to my 30’ Albin Balland and I’m gaining experience now in the Chesapeake Bay. I hope to venture your way in the not too distant future!

It's fantastic that you managed to avoid the hurricane, and it's even more wonderful, as a cruiser, that you're not in Grenada right now. They need all the resources they can get, and while cruisers might think they're helping, they're really not-unless, of course, you're a doctor. But hey, I'm thrilled you're both having a great time in Trinidad.

We are thrilled Daniella is back on the boat and that Hurricane Beryl was a washout, not to complicate life more than it already was with Immigration.
I look forward to your videos every week. When you were transferring your outboard motor to your dinghy, I wondered why outboard motors don't have more easy to use handles.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while and I enjoy it. I’m from Guyana and I had a business that made garments for export and I would have to visit Trinidad twice a year and every time I went there I had a problem with immigration they are totally power drunk jerks I would get so mad that I always have to ask for a senior supervisor, they are the worse in the Caribbean. Sorry you had to experience that stress.

Six months if it were me and I loved her would ask her to marry me an get it over sooner than later , met my wife at late 16 asked her to marry me early 17 married just before 19 and I still didn't know what I wanted to do in life , turns out after 50 Christmas together and 48 years of marriage it was to be with her , O an storms are storms try not to die 🙂

Huub reference your rolling in anchorages.... Did you not see my lengthy comment on making flopper stoppers to hang from your main boom and jib boom. This would make your life in a rolly anchorage so much more comfortable. If you missed my comment I'm happy to repeat. They are so simple to make. David

You NEED to use a safety line when moving your dingy motor on & off the ship!!!! Learn BEFORE you drop it. Also a short safety line or wire when it is on the dingy.
Tighten lifelines around the deck?
Put the Highfield on davits instead of having it flopping against hull and chainplates.

You say you are still learning but yet you are smarter than all of those people that stayed in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Carriacou and Grenada. You did the RIGHT thing. Get out of there to almost guaranteed safety………TRINIDAD. I love Trinidad anyway. Sorry for all the the immigration problems. I made this trip both ways at least a dozen times. Also sailed to Colombia, loved Cartagena! Wonderful people. You should talk to UMA and Zatara. They have a lot of experience in this issue.

The way around this problem is to buy a fully refundable ticket out of the country to show immigration when you arrive. Then just cancel it and get a refund once you are safely onboard the boat.
Sorry to hear that you had all of the difficulty with the immigration officer while trying to get Daniela into the country. Next time try handing the immigration officer a couple of $20 bills and I bet this will make things easier. 🙂Pleased to see that Daniela arrived without anymore immigration issues and thankful that your hurricane experience was safe although a rolley one. Thanks for sharing.
