@@offtheline-x8w That was a cool post and I really appreciate it -I'll also check out that book. And if I'm completely honest, I think I sometimes use the money thing as an excuse. I have no debt and I've got a pretty good savings that I'm just reluctant to use. But as you say, I need to get out there. The only real traveling I've done was in the Yucatan and the Caribbean. Don't worry,, I'm not talking about cruises or all inclusive resorts.....I did the kind of stuff Harald and Bald and others do and it was the greatest time of my life. I know that still isn't exactly being adventurous (its less than 1500 miles from home and even when going off the tourist trail there are not many truly isolated/adventurous places. But it gave me just enough of a feel for travel that I know I'd enjoy going to more exotic places. Thanks for the encouragement and I hope you GET OUT THERE too! :)

Maybe I'm wrong...but there certainly seems to be something about people who live in mountains and who know all their neighbors and life being inherently hard in such places...that that kind of people, no matter where in the world, tend to be very welcoming and incredibly charitable to those who pass through...it's pretty much that way in the USA in various parts of Appalachia as well and I have seen at least one or two reports of some researchers studying people who live in cold, mountainous areas that apparently found it to just be the case: people who live in cold, mountainous areas are just nicer and more gentle to others...almost out of necessity I imagine since you never feel the need of other humans quite like living in such areas. In cities, it's easy to just treat others as just another number...one of many who has no relation to you and who, if you wanted to, you would never have to see again even though you live within 1 square mile of each other.

@@wowomah6194 I have had this same observation. I guess the harder the elements push people, the closer they draw together. It is also just in generally cold places - not strictly mountainous areas; the northern plains of Canada would be a good example. What certainly helps is their distance from urbanised centres, where money and power have an influence. I also saw evidence of this humanity in Vietnam in rural areas. There are many factors but the differences between cold, mountainous areas and cities in the USA, for example, are stark.

This video made me so emotional Harald. Reminded me of my grandparents. They looked exactly like the couple at the Tibet Lodge and same age too. My grandma would make Raksi too. When she did it was the day everyone showered because of the hot water 😂. I loved how well the lady spoke English despite never having an education, exactly like my grandma. Your Chowmein looked so delicious. I hope you get to see them and stay with them on your way back. Loving this series so much. I wish more people would have the courage to venture out and meet the World face to face with others who are sharing this life. I lived in the U.S. 68 years and had been all over, but never South America. Then one day, I just packed it up and moved to South America, where I have lived, and love, for ten years. This was emotional to watch. As a European kid I went to these trips in India to the Himalaya. Didn't like Indian food yet, so I always asked for chicken chow mein (100% not chicken lol). I miss those times. Glad you had this same experience.

Woke up and found another video from Harald. A great way to start the day with more kind and generous people in this magical land. I am really loving this channel.
