One thing to note about advanced playmakers in the wide position. They end up playing quite narrow when you have the ball so your width (if you want width) will have to primarily come from your wing / full backs (not inverted)
You and Loki doki are my favourite streamers. You both of makes me laugh a lot. Out of context, but you really have a very creative mind. Will do great in advertising industry 🙂👍
Another very useful tip if you're experimenting with tactics/formations: USE COMPREHENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS! This will allow you to see the general pattern of play much better than if you use normal highlights. Also use a zoomed-out wide-angle camera view such as sideline or tv, or even use the 2d view to get a better understanding of your player's positioning.
I did the 2 poacher thing in the Vanarama North on FM17. I had a flat 352 and both of my strikers were wingers forced into CF's so they were both great at crossing the ball if forced wide. It was a desperation tactic because of zero funding and injuries, but I ended up sticking with them for 2 seasons because they just somehow forged an amazing partnership that tore cumbersome non- league defenses to bits. Some games they were ABSOLUTELY ineffective though.
A good note is that some roles combine better with other, even though they're still not terrible otherwise. In a 4-4-2, if you're playing with wingers on the sides and you have a Poacher and Target Man up top, they will be way better when set on attack. The strikers occupying the CBs allow for crazy dribbles inside the box. The central defenders can't decide whether to come off their man and leave a striker open, or stay glued and watch the winger zoom past, and shoot unopposed. Switch the Wingers on support. All of a sudden a lot of attacks are not working out. The wingers are staying wider and looking for the cross, but can't find it and often get tackled overdribbling on the touchline. Change the strikers to Advanced Forward and Deep Lying Forward. Now the supporting Wingers both manage to make it all the way to the box with their ball carry, but also a lot of whipped crosses into space inside the box are happening. Because the two strikers are looking to use space more, they benefit from the Wingers that don't cut in so soon and stretch play more. Crosses are happening from much further and deeper as well. Both tactics look to get crosses into the box, but use space inside it differently. It's a general rule that roles that like to carry the ball and ones that stop, and attract the press where they got the ball, combine well. Both make room for each other with their actions.
Pretty much correct on what he saying, I create 3 tactics for 3 situations within a game so say a 442 like said above have a basic have a different 1 to answer being down (so little more attacking) and 1 to help the last 10 mins of a game at 1-0 up. With that i change roles within the players to aid there position on a pitch. Good video 👍
As a 3-Poacher tactics user, I am attacked by this video. Nah just joking, 3 Poachers can actually be beneficial if you're playing in lower leagues, just be sure to have a decent MF and DF. GK is very, very important for lower league football, if not more important that ST. And by the way, it's pronounced "Enganche", no "Engansh". Great video; helpful and entertaining. As the FanofAslan, I appreciated the Narnia reference. One extra for you; I use the Average Positions thing a lot; it is in the Analysis section and you can see your players' average positions with the ball, without the ball, and an average of both. You can also use the time slider to see their average positions at different times in the game; so if I change a player's role at half time, it can be interesting to see how that change has affected his positioning on the pitch. Explain this though, I changed a player in central midfield from DLP(S) to AP(S) as I was 0-1 down at half time. In the post-match analysis, his average position was further back than at half time. Huh?
here's a question... why can't I get 3 central midfield players in one line to perform their roles without roaming in the others' space, entirely losing the midfield shape and look chaotic? for example an Advanced playmaker (support) on MCL, Central midfielder (defend) or Ball winning midfielder (defend) on MC and Mezzala (attack) on MCR. even with the instructions to stay wider. I get some sort of lateral overlaps, and not in a good way. for example, those overlaps would be great in more attacking positions. but, the minute I dropped the MC to DMC, regardless of the role, the other two start doing what I want. the MCR and MCL occupy their respective half spaces. I wanted to get some width and solidity using the 3 MC setup, but I got the opposite.
You actually need to watch the player's position and movement in the match engine and using the in game analytics here with this stuff. Like you might think Complete Forward on support and Shadow Striker on attack is a great idea, classic big man little man running off of him stuff... except in my experience they far too often stand on top of one another and can be marked by one defender.
I reckon you could make that IW and IWB attack combo work. Assuming it’s symmetrical I’d go 3-4-3, have 2 support mezzalas who will drift out to cover wide and make space in the centre for the IWBs, then I’d have a central striker on support (not F9) to act as a wall to play into. The back three will then give you solidity in the centre of the pitch to compensate for the extreme switching ahead of them. Then get everyone to press like demons when you lose the ball because you’ll have zero shape on transition
Just got to the end of the video. You can definitely make two poachers work it’s essentially the 90s English lower league dirge I grew up with. You’re just going super high tempo and direct, balls over the top into space from deep and loads of crosses into the box. You’re going to have practically no possession so in your midfield ball winners or box-to-box is the way to go with ‘get stuck in’ on. And for the authentic 90s experience, go with a flat back 4 with an offside trap. Also go compact as possible, you want two close banks of 4. Setpieces are key here two. It will be horrible to watch but will have some success. A more adventurous route would be a more Italian 4-3-1-2 or 5-2-1-2 with wingbacks, a trequartista and regista and everyone else defending/shuttling. This time deep compact, slower but still direct. Will be boring as well but there will be moments of magic from your two creative players at least and more controlled
Off topic and I may be too late for you to see this but I absolutely cannot see the body language on games when I'm the home team. There are no settings that I can see that change this. The away team's body language is always present. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
Can someone explain this? A striker is best suited for the Target man role (full green circle), but when I assign him to that role in my team, his role familiarity is - zero. And if I switch him to let's say Advanced forward (half circle full), his role familiaritiy is almost full. How is that making sense?
How would you feel about doing a video on pre-match tactical briefing and opposition instructions? I just ask my asistant to pick and would love to learn more about them
Any chance we can get a video on youth development? How do you fill the potential of a 15 year old 5* academy prospect? How can we get the most out of the crucial developmental years between ages 15-19, when do you decide to loan them out or how often do you play them in the first team etc. I commented this on another vid a few weeks ago but I haven't been keeping up with every video since so sorry if you've already addressed this!
This was very good, keep up the good work. Can I ask I would like to play a 4-3-3(4-1-4-1 DM) in romanian league with Steaua(FCSB). Do you think the following roles would be suitable? I'm thinking DLPmk D - DM; B2B + Mezzala S/A and in attack IW Sx2 +TM S, thank you. Now I know the TM isn't really suitable but that's what the strikers in the squad are like and I'm afraid of playing a poacher up top by itself as it may become isolated
Ionut Popa I play a similar formation to great success so the baseline is for sure fine. However I prefer to have a AP in midfield alongside either the mezzala or the box-to-box. If you’re dead set on playing a target man I would probably put the IW on attach so they’re a bit closer to him although I recommend you using another striker role. Also you need your right and left backs in attacking roles (maybe they already are, it’s not specified), like wing back or complete wing back
@@Ocupiopulus I was pondering about replacing the mezzala with an advanced playmaker role and I usually keep the IW on support than change their instructions to get further forward in possession. Because they are already in the AMR and AML positions I'm afraid that with an attack duty they will not track back at all. I could probably retrain a striker in a more deep lying role, would you recommend false 9 in this situation? Also I generally use full backs on support with further instructions to get further forward as I think that is my weakness behind the space left behind the full backs. Could you advice further please? Also what playing style would u recommend for this formation? The squad is pretty balanced media prediction 2nd but they don't excel in something in particular, thank you for your help.
new subscriber here! I cant stop bloody conceding goals from set pieces! no matter how much training I do on it helps. Do you have an effective routine for defending corners and free kicks?!
How would you put 1 solo small striker as a role? i love having DLP as solo, but not getting too many goals out of it, even my wingers are on support for him. And i dont know how to make 1 CM to get into box for more ppl in for crosses
So I notice that in one of the tactics you are using for Dortmund you have two bright red spots in the attacking midfield area. I have been wondering about: How much of a problem is this, is having red areas in your tactic really as bad as the colour coding would suggest?
Great content, man, I subscribed recently and I find videos informative and entertaining at the same time. I wanted to ask you something, in case you've noticed it, did it happen in your game a centrally position player to weirdly drift wide, without any particular instructions for him to do that? Also which is the most offensive and aggressive role in the AMC strata in your opinion? I'm trying to utilize a strikerless system and experimented a lot, but still haven't been able to answer myself? Cheers
I don't know man, they are quite okay. Why Teamwork tho? Off the ball, anticipation and decision may be factors, but teamwork? Anyway, thanks for bothering to answer
@@ZealandonYT thanks a lot :) I just noticed, that I'm unable to teach a natural striker some movement PPMs, like Gets Forward Whenever Possible or Gets into Opposition Area. I retrained a striker to play in the AMC position as SS, but I have no option to get him to learn this moves.
My wide midfielder is playing on this position for 4 years and his role circle is yellow. Any chance it can become green? I also train this position. Does it need to become green not to have any skill debuffs?
Could you just quickly explain the difference on a CD and a BPD? I know the part on the BPD obviously wants the ball more, but what about players that have a "full green circle" on CD and a dark orange on BPD? Can those still be used as a BPD? In a lower league (3rd Irish division) a defender with 9 across the passing attributes should be fine as a BPD but the game suggests him to be a CD instead. What do I get different in using that same player (green circle on CD and dark orange on BPD) as either a CD or a BPD? I currently use him as a BPD in a 4-4-2, but I wonder if he plays worse because he is in a "strange position" compared to his beloved CD (even though he's got the attributes to justify playing as a BPD)
I'm testing trequartista but i still don't get the best of this role. I have perfect player for this but still have average rating. Even if the description says that he is a playmaker he don't have so much the ball to dictate the game and he seems to be very few involve in building play than a advanced playmaker. Did someone manager to build a tactic aroud a fantastic trequartista?
I did once, back when I played FM12. I know the match enginge been evolved. But i guess its worth trying (since nobody comment on this yet). I played a Tre (A) paired with AM (S) behind a CompF (A). Tre generally a more attacking AP. So he move more forward, the AM will help build your play. When CF would roam and open space. Add with Attck from Middle and work ball in the box. Hope its help
How to train players individual roles until fully natural? I have 2 players with AMC natural position, the roles i want for them is Shadow Striker, so i trained and play them in that roles for 2 seasons but they not showing any improvement in that roles...please help : D
Can you make video how I can make my board to allow me to expand coaching staff for my team? For example I’m manager of FC Partizan (Serbia) in 3rd seasson and I made really big money through CL and EL and my club is rich now like 80+ million overall balance and I have just 5 coaches allowed.. Its sucks I cant upgrade my coaching staff to make my team even better
I'm struggling to find a logical explanation: i have a perfect advanced playmaker player (4.5 stars quality) and he is struggling to perform in my 4-4-2 lineup. Since I don't have a quality left winger, I put him there as a Inwerted Winger on support (2.5 stars), and he returned a ton (several assists and few goals). Just to note, he never played and has no knowledge of playing that role. How?
It is probably because you have to many support players i.e. F9 or DLF's and the inverted winger doesn't help as he will get the ball and make plays himself you should have left him as a winger.
If you sign 6 players under 30 and 1 player over 30 and the club vision requires you to "not sign players over the age of 30", will the chairman be disappointed?
Maybe slightly disappointed, but you'd be fine so long as you're doing the majority of your club culture objectives. You tend to only get in trouble with chairmen if you are failing competition achievements, or blatantly ignoring the majority or all of your club culture directives.
I always end up going 2 seasons max on a save because I get bored, I try to make a tactic that I feel suits my team, I play pre- season and do poorly and then poor at the start of the league, get disheartened and stop playing and end up starting a save with a downloaded tactic, get my team promoted back to back seasons and then stop playing as it doesn’t feel fun because I’m not really doing anything. So I need tips on how to improve or find a love for the game again, I spend close to an hour making a tactic and it’s annoying when it doesn’t work 🤷🏻♂️edit: I’ve pretty much gone to every nation and done every save imaginable, I just hate losing but also hate starting with a massive club so it’s hard to find a save I enjoy
very well summed up, i would like to extend your final statement though. Do NOT have the same two roles anywhere in the mid-lane in a 4-4-2!?! allways have one cm thats a lil more deffensiv and the same with the cb´s. And i count the carrileros as a deff-role and it has worked really nice for me on the side of a high-winger and an inside forward besides an offensive playmaker and mezalla both. Keep on keepin on your doing the FM-gods good work here (edit: also i like to have my players placed every other off-deff as often as possible; with a great off left wb i put my deff cb next to him then the stopper cb and then my deff RB for example)
Hi first of all great videos keep it going Second can u help me choose a team for a new save?? Maybe a Fallen giant still in a top league or in max in second division and im not bothered with any league restrictions just a team with a great backstory and for a reason just fall from grace Thank u
Is anyone out there who can PLEASE help me with player roles? I am an experienced FM player, having accumulated hundreds of hours of play between 2007-2016. I haven't played the last 4 versions due to, well life etc, but have been able to get back in to FM 20 due to the lockdown. There are some irritating bugs in the game I can put up with; strikers with fantastic finishing, composure and decisions missing every one vs one, opposition full backs cutting on to their weaker foots and scoring 25 yard screamers, scoring a silly amount of goals from near post corners and players not squaring the ball but shooting from an angle. But the one thing that is completely ruining the game for me is player roles. I can train and play a player in their preferred role and they just go backwards in it and eventually end up in another preferred role that they've had no exposure of training in. (My coaches are all 4.5* and above and I take control of their development.) E.g I signed Steven Sessegnon from Fulham to play as an attacking wing back. It was his natural position and role at the time of signing and his traits of get forward whenever possible seemed to complement this nicely. I also trained him to 'knock ball past opponent'. So he's training and playing in this role for 18-24 months before suddenly one day, all of a sudden he's a natural wing back defend...?! This has also happened on my opposite flank with Vitayli Mykolenko and more recently in CM with Hamed Junior Traore who I've played and trained as a Mezzala attack for 2 years and now he's not a natural in CM at all but natural at CAM. I just don't get it?! It has also happened with wide forwards who flit between inverted wingers/inside forwards support/attack roles without any apparent rhyme or reason. I can understand a player not being able to master a role, but the regression when already 'natural' and being trained at played in these roles is infuriating me. Any help or guidance much welcomed! Thank you :)
@@ZealandonYT Ah okay. I see... thank you! So if I play him as a Wingback Attack, this won't affect team balance negatively? Alternatively, if I play him Wingback defend, will he still use his natural traits of 'getting forwards whenever possible' etc? Loving them game otherwise and loving your channel.
Am I also allowed to #ZealandSOS you if I take my save is actually going great, but if I'm wondering if there is any more strings to pull to make the save even better and where to find them?
Am I the only one here who puts all his players on their best(personalised) roles for the position, rather than forcing them to play a fixed role for the tactic? :D
Zealand why do you still using the preset tactics? A real one is when you started with clean slate, you'll find the game harder, and less trophies every FM.

Off topic and I may be too late for you to see this but I absolutely cannot see the body language on games when I'm the home team. There are no settings that I can see that change this. The away team's body language is always present. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
If i was rich i wouldve hired you to commentate my FM games, got that advertiser voice there
You should have many more subscribers, great videos.
Haha you're good at this Zealand. I enjoy your videos. Have you ever tried the Belgian league? Greetings from Brussels
FM Base gotchu bro, much appreciated
The squad is pretty balanced media prediction 2nd but they don't excel in something in particular, thank you for your help.
and the mixed interior? Does it really work? Do you have to put one on each side or is one good?
new subscriber here! I cant stop bloody conceding goals from set pieces! no matter how much training I do on it helps. Do you have an effective routine for defending corners and free kicks?!
Is 2 complete forwards acceptable? One Support the other Attack?
How would you put 1 solo small striker as a role? i love having DLP as solo, but not getting too many goals out of it, even my wingers are on support for him. And i dont know how to make 1 CM to get into box for more ppl in for crosses
Is treq any good and viable? I am using 3412 formation and seems like treq is not working that optimal.
So I notice that in one of the tactics you are using for Dortmund you have two bright red spots in the attacking midfield area. I have been wondering about: How much of a problem is this, is having red areas in your tactic really as bad as the colour coding would suggest?
What is the goalkeeper rating that non-goalkeepers have under their attributes
Was that bell sound taken from the WoW Auction House?
"Do not put 2 poachers next to each other"
Me: "hahahahah i thought i clicked False 9 I swear"
Bdp takes more risks and does more ambitious passes
playing 442 diamond using cm as bwm and carrilero, dm on registra actually pretty effective
@@robysuryatama2249 realy helps , thx!
is 2 NCB a good idea
How to train players individual roles until fully natural? I have 2 players with AMC natural position, the roles i want for them is Shadow Striker, so i trained and play them in that roles for 2 seasons but they not showing any improvement in that roles...please help : D
@@ZealandonYT ty for your reply, really appreciate it
Did you get that shirt in Australia?
Can you make video how I can make my board to allow me to expand coaching staff for my team? For example I’m manager of FC Partizan (Serbia) in 3rd seasson and I made really big money through CL and EL and my club is rich now like 80+ million overall balance and I have just 5 coaches allowed.. Its sucks I cant upgrade my coaching staff to make my team even better
FM Base actually I had board elections and new board allowed me to have 2 more coaches 🤷🏻♂️
You should do a video on how to comply with FFP
I'm struggling to find a logical explanation: i have a perfect advanced playmaker player (4.5 stars quality) and he is struggling to perform in my 4-4-2 lineup. Since I don't have a quality left winger, I put him there as a Inwerted Winger on support (2.5 stars), and he returned a ton (several assists and few goals). Just to note, he never played and has no knowledge of playing that role. How?
It is probably because you have to many support players i.e. F9 or DLF's and the inverted winger doesn't help as he will get the ball and make plays himself you should have left him as a winger.
what was the name of that midfielder
Bielsa loves an Enganche ♥️⚽
Great video #legend
If you sign 6 players under 30 and 1 player over 30 and the club vision requires you to "not sign players over the age of 30", will the chairman be disappointed?
Maybe slightly disappointed, but you'd be fine so long as you're doing the majority of your club culture objectives. You tend to only get in trouble with chairmen if you are failing competition achievements, or blatantly ignoring the majority or all of your club culture directives.
I'd expect a bit more depth and accuracy on infos considering its 23MIN :) nice video tho roughly explains all roles
18:02 killed me lol
Carrilero is weirdly good in a 4-4-2. Whereas I can't get a Mezzala to work in a 2-man midfield
Not really Carrileros work better in formations without wingers but Mezzalas don't work at all in a two man midfield unless you have 3 at the back
Dortmund 4-2-4 wide midfielders on AP. Bernardo Silva as AMR. Le salieron chispas al simulador
very well summed up, i would like to extend your final statement though.
Hi first of all great videos keep it going
Second can u help me choose a team for a new save??
Maybe a Fallen giant still in a top league or in max in second division and im not bothered with any league restrictions just a team with a great backstory and for a reason just fall from grace
Thank u
@@ZealandonYT great shouts thanks👊
(My coaches are all 4.5* and above and I take control of their development.)
E.g I signed Steven Sessegnon from Fulham to play as an attacking wing back.
Magetank4445 mention that in your tweet and see what happens!
@@ReeceTheEditor done!
The problem with roles like bwm can't turn tackling to easy even when they are carded
Two Poachers is bad? Ok ill put three then!
who is marc antony ??
why is there always a really quiet tingeling sound in your videos? It's driving me nuts
Why is mezzala the best role in the game ?
We need a movement video on YT or post on FMBASE
@@ZealandonYT like what roles move in what direction. I think i will help a lot of people with building there tactic.
So I should use 3 Roaming Playmakers and 2 Poachers in my Tactic? Got it.
OMG how does he have only 22k subs
I was literally putting 2 poachers next to each other lol
I am shocked that you have Haaland and in almost 30 games played he scored 9 goals . Are you using him s cb ? :))))
All credibility goes out the window when your left full back is wearing number 9
Am I the only one here who puts all his players on their best(personalised) roles for the position, rather than forcing them to play a fixed role for the tactic? :D
Zealand why do you still using the preset tactics? A real one is when you started with clean slate, you'll find the game harder, and less trophies every FM.
Wait is using a preset tactic going to mess it up?
@@Hentzau. try by yourself, and you'll see a big difference.
