Marco Reus was the best Trequartista I ever used. I hopped in a Dortmund save about four years ago to learn how to play the game and he ended leading the league in assists and being fifth in goals with the second highest rating. Ever since I love tactics that utilize it. I think Trequartistas work well in the sense that you need to make sure that you have both enough input going to him and enough places to provide output. They're kind of like a hypermobile enganche. A lot of the attacking play both originates from and is created through a Trequartista so they need to have enough physical ability to move around a lot and enough passing and vision to be a conduit of play AND enough dribbling to run at defenses and draw out defenders /AND/ enough shooting ability to be able to finish /AND/!!! enough mentals to make it all come together properly.
Complete forward, but for an attacking midfielder/winger. They truly have to be able to do it all in order to be deadly. The reason most people tend to not do too well with a player on Trequartista is that it's a position that needs not just a specific ability but also a tactic that works with it.
If anyone sees this comment, try putting your Trequartista in the middle with creative people to his left and right, defensive solidity behind, and a finishing-composure first striker up top.
As your Trequartista ages, they often turn well into first a Raumdeuter and then an Enganche if you can get them to stick around long enough.

I really recommend you trying the Wide Playmaker role. It has something unique about it how well it works with an overlapping fullback / wingback. Wide playmaker drifts inside and has an option to play a ball to an overlapping defender, into a channel to striker or stretch play to opposite wing. Despite having 'Shoot less often' hard-baked into its instructions, I still get them to score 10 goals a season with 15 assists to top it off. Very cool role with some unique movement and passing. Works well with a Shadow Striker in the middle, thrives of off players moving into channels and on the wing.
It's essentially a playmaking inverted winger, which is awesome. You won't see him blast it into the side netting.

    • @WizoIstGott
      @WizoIstGott 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TheGroundHopper in an ideal scenario yes, you want players with a strong foot opposite to the side they play on in any inverted role (iwb, if, IW).
But this isn't as important as for classic wing roles. A normal rightback or right winger with a left foot won't be able to run to the line and cross it, an inverted player can still be useful when cutting inside on his week foot. So for these roles a player that has the wrong strong foot but is somewhat competent with his week foot might work just fine

When a Regista works, it works perfectly. It's like a DLP but he can actually get closer to the goal, aka higher pass success rate, aka more passes that unlock the defence. Just make sure that every other midfielder can actually tackle

Pressing forwards are the funniest role just for the fact that every now and then they will actually pull off a tackle on the opponents goalkeeper and completely embarass them with the easiest goals you’ve ever seen, idk if this is just applicable to FM19 but i’ve found that inside forwards can be amazing with a strong attacking wingback behind them that likes to get forward(thus the wingback takes on the role of winger) and a single striker system(so the inside forward acts as a second striker when he comes into the center and works alongside the striker)

He got like 5 goals and 6 assists in his first 5 games as Trequartista. I think it's highly underrated and your review shows this. Maybe give it a try if you have a world class AMC who isn't really suited to Shadow Striker and is underperforming.

The Treq is a playmaker with some scoring talent. The inverse of a Shadow Striker. The only problem with a Treq is you have to have 2 forwards who press. Or a front 3 in a 4231. And even the latter isn't really ideal, because it's 1 center forward pressing 2 DCs.

Regista, for me, is a transcendent role with the right player. I used Brad Walker as one in an Aldershot save all the way up until the Premier League, and he was still getting 7.50+ season ratings despite having maybe two attributes at 15. His attributes were perfect for it because he had both the dribbling and crossing of a winger and also the passing and vision of an AMC. Assists, goals, build-up play, he did everything.

A complete wingback on each side and 2 BPDs on defend at CB. Attacking mentality. Almost all O, very little D. I was okay with the front 3 doing absolutely NOTHING defensively, but man, could they score. I won some games 8-3 or 7-4, but my objective was to just outscore the opposition. The trequartista scored goals, but he also had plenty of assists due to the mezzalas and RMDs around him. I like using the Treq instead of the F9 in that spot because the Treq is more attack minded. A BWM on defence alongside a DLP on support
    Two Wingers on Attacking
    An AF alongside a Poacher
No matter who plays the poacher, no matter if they are big or small, fast or slow they will score the most goals over a season. And by quite a margin (~7 goals)

Agree on Poacher. I remember I had a journeyman career couple FMs ago and I ended at Leicester City. Tried to make a tactic strictly to accommodate Jamie Vardy as a Poacher - didn't turn out well.
But I disagree on Inside Forwards. After I read some real-life report, that crossing the ball is one of the worst ways to distribute the ball to the penalty box (only like one in 30 crosses lands where it was aimed at and only about one in 90 ends with goal), I deliberately try to avoid crosses as much as I can opting for low drives into the box.

  • @MarquisdeSuave

Wide Playmaker is highly undervalued in FM21. Say I'm using Chelsea and I use Ziyech as my WP, you then make players like Mount your Mezzala and Kante a BBM, change your LW into a W or IF and keep your strikers as a P or AF and YOU WILL RACK UP GOALS.
The reason why is fairly simple, the AI on default is not set up to stop a playmaker from out wide. Midfielders are set up to stop most other middies, WB's are set up to stop other WB's. Most of your weaker defenders throughout the game are wingers and a winger tasked to stop another winger who suddenly isnt looking to get inside to score but rather stay wide and spray passes and crosses into and around the box not only spreads the field but its far easier for them to get those passes off when youre not starting in a crowded part of the field like an AP starting in front of the box.
Ziyech OWNS this role but you will find a lot of other good wingers who can work in this role in your attack if you know what to surround them with. I've seen Ziyech get close to 40 assists in his first year as a WP on the 20-21 Chelsea team. That's on top of all the assists you'll get from set pieces.
Same thing with Saka, Dejan and even Jadon Sancho.
Try it out and see for yourself.

Hey mate, very interesting point. I was looking for a reply like this. I was thinking of playing a wide playmaker, but is it combinable with a deep lying playmaker on the same side? Let's say a flat 4-4-2 formation with a midfield of WP - DLP - MEZ - W and 2 AF's. Would a WP get in the way of a MEZ if played on the same side?

Most MOTM awards, most key passes in the league (around 140). Unbelievable. Just use wing backs in attack and he will start counter-attacks and keep the ball in attack until someone scores a goal. I think Trequartista are underrated for Wingers.
That's the only role that do what i want when i'm in positional play in attack when I have a right winger, right footed, with a right full back "attacking" (same on the left side).
On the other roles, they keep bumping in eatch other. Trequartista role will put your winger closer to your striker, leaving the wide for you full-back.
Although most of the wingers are not used to that role, they keep scoring and assisting a lot, especially to each other with wide crosses to the far post.

As dumb as it may sound because people imagine Trequartista as playmakers who need a lot of possession, a TQ as lone striker when you want to counter is actually really good. He does nothing defensively which might seem bad but that's not that big of a deal if you have 10 deeper sitting players but he will roam and look for space constantly even when the opponent has the ball, so whenever you win it, he is in the right space to get it and immediately start the attack, either to score himself or use his creativity to find other runners.
If you have a striker who is quick and smart, the TQ-role can be a perfect fit, especially if you're not one of the top-teams in the league and opponents might take more risks against you.

The best defensive midfielders in the game are usually DLPs (Florentino Luis, Camavinga etc.), there's a surplus of natural DLPs in the game and not enough natural BWMs. Which is a shame because I think BWM is better suited for the gegenpress tactic, gives more intensity and physicality.
