I used to not understand tube screamers. I play a strat through a Hot Rod Deluxe, which is a darker amp. I tried a TS one day, and turned the tone knob up to 3 oclock. A whole new world opened up for me.

I don't know much about amps
When we put the od in front of the amp
It drives always the clean channel?
Or it drives an already drive amp?
      Sorry f m English

People forget for years before he plugged straight into a cranked amp and that most of the gain is coming from the amp and NOT the pedals! They’re merely there as clean boosts.

Once I ran my TS-9 into my Boss Blues Driver (NOT the other way around) I never looked back. BD-2 on a moderate rhythm setting, TS added for solos with max level & low gain. It just screams, cuts through a band mix & even with BOTH pedals on is very dynamically responsive when using the guitar's volume knob. However it does not pair well with my Boss DS-1.

I didn’t know that. I do know that when you stack overdrives it gives a great complex sound

  • @wolftruong2413

I use an OCD clone on LP mode as the main overdrive on my pedalboard, and use a mini TS9 to boost into that - gain set no higher than 9 o'clock, level at maybe 1 or 2 o'clock and the tone at about 11. It works well to focus the sound and help solos and lead parts pop out of the mix. Both of my amps (a Marshall DSL20 and a Blackstar Debut 50r as a solid state backup) are British-voiced with a lot of mids so I don't really like trying to layer the distortion from the pedal itself on top of a clean tone. However, it works really well as a "social overdrive" as you describe it.
Often I won't even use the OD pedal when I'm playing through the Marshall as the "ultra gain" channel has a great sound of its own for modern distortion sounds, and the "classic gain" channel crunches up quite nicely with humbuckers for an edge of breakup sound. However, in both cases, the TS comes in really handy once again as a coloured boost. It basically adds a tighter, more aggressive voice to both channels, which the 40 watt version tries to do itself but fails imo (at least on the ultra gain channel).

I still have and use a Digitech Bad Monkey from when I started playing guitar. It was the first pedal I ever bought, based on a friends recommendation. Sometimes I think about selling it and buying a TS9 but eventually change my mind. I like running it by itself into my Princeton set to just breaking up.
If I want heavier tones I'll stack it into a Rat 🐀 with the Princeton clean. It sounds great and tightens the Rat up.

If you stack them, you may not have to turn the tone back too much depending on the order and the way you run each. I actually had the TS9 tone set a little low in this video when I was stacking them, it could have stood to be brightened up a bit

  • @rickschneider3887
    @rickschneider3887 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

SRV was the only player I know who stacked the TS. The interesting thing is it works better IMO when both pedals are set to zero gain and full volume boost. I’ve always loved the mid punch the Screamer gives that makes anything you play audibly pleasant at all volumes and at any gain stage of your amp. It’s just a great versatile pedal. Thankfully I have a modeler so I can sensibly put up to 4 of them in my effects chain without causing any issues!

The Tube Screamer sounds good on its own. With my own playing I never stack overdrives and distortion pedals. It's one or the other. I only sometimes stack one of these pedals with a subtle preamp pedal. Been playing Strats with a TS9 for years through Fender and Peavey combo style amps. Favorite TS9 setting: Drive at 10, Tone at 9, Level at unity or a touch above.

Have always had tube amps, but tubes and service wasn't cutting it anymore.
Went with Fender TMDR, but am worried about the fact tha it's cheaper to buy a new TMDR than to possibly fix 2 days after warranty runs out. Hurts my sensibilities.
Pedals always seem to last forever.
      Therefore, tried UA's Dream...
My chase for tone, mods, cabs, artist settings and presets are done.
Actually plugged into the normal channel of the TMDR to a/b the two😉😎👍
Each is it's own take on a DR, but the Dream with its extras and tones shines through. Great feel.
Very pleased with the results 😉
Makes my pedalboard the heaviest and largest part of my rig.😎👍
You might want to check it out when you get the time, and let us know what you think? Hope this helps you in some say😎👍❤🖖

The OD-808 re-issue is actually a TS-10 circuit according to Analog Mike. The OD-9 is the only re-issue that's accurate to original build (TS-9).

Nice vid. I enjoyed the point that it’s a social overdrive. I’m a SD-1 user (basically Boss’ TS, as you know) and a klone fan (Emerson Goldenface currently, but I’ve had many over the years) and I use both of those pedals/circuits in many of the ways you describe. They’re usually feeding another source of gain, whether that’s a more neutral overdrive further down the signal path or the amps gain. I love running my SD-1 or my Goldenface into my Boss OD-3, there’s a lot of superb tones to be had that way. Have you ever tried an OD-3? I know you’re a BD-2 fan (at least the Keeley Super Phat Mod version), and I really think if you enjoyed that style of drive the OD-3 would be up your alley.

I run my pedal board with an aby switcher into a soldano slo 100 and a Marshall 30 th anniversary (blue tolex). Any tone I want come from this combination. From great cleans to evil means!

Hey man, great content btw. Anyhoo, I'm new to the pedal platform thing, I'd love to hear ur input. I'm running a v40 duchess which doesn't break up much, so I use a cheap klon clone for stage one gain and some breakup( it's a 40$ wish clone that sounds pretty dang good) and I have a ts9 after it for lead boosting. I feel like I'm on the right track but rolling off volume with the clone just doesn't seem to cut it. It just seems to lose tone hard-core. Should I try a better clone? The centavo seems like a good choice, I really like the clone circuit and I enjoy what the ts9 does, but something isn't right. Should I try a blues breaker? Prince of tone ? Tumnus? Idk I need direction, pls help😡
