Ex endurance athlete here(12 and 24 hour mountain bike racing), picked up my peloton during COVID, proceeded to train like I was 20 again. Felt great and champed it out for 2 years, then noticed, nagging back issues becoming more often, getting sick alot and never recovering as fast as I felt I should from work out or sickness.
I thought I just needed to work like crazy to stay young forever. Now I have hurt my range of motion and found I have limits I didn't have before...So adding in yoga and diet and seeing where that gets me. Maybe just patience with my body but ex athlete levels of determination are hard to suppress. I need to focus on the EX part...I don't race anymore and I'm not 20 anymore.
RC cars is the hobby that keeps me sane while I can't work out or am hurt...so I've got that going for me.

Just turned 60, pretty damn healthy... so far... but it's getting tricky.
do everything yo can to keep your mobility and flexibility. Get into a regiment now even if it's minimal changes. Create the habit to monitor and know your body better. Check your weight every day when you hop out of the shower. Then check your blood pressure before you dive into that first cup of coffee. These will teach you a lot about your body and give you a little peace of mind. Baby steps to a healthier life. You have a ten year start on me. I didn't start to take it seriously till I was fifty. Just plain get away from as much processed food as you reasonably can. What ever you put in your body either helps you heal or confuses your body's natural ability to do so. For the most part, you are your own best doctor. Take every experts advice with a grain of salt because you're probably just as smart as they are, just not educated in the same way... yet. Take the hard road there's less traffic and more opportunities. Be positive. Play the cards you have been delt the best you can. If you don't learn something everyday, you are not paying attention. The way I figure it I'll have a pretty good idea what's important just about the time I kick off!
I enjoy the way you think John. You're a good man and that's really what's most important.

Just turned 66 June 6... my brain tells my body I'm 40 and can still do things I did when I was 40. My body tells me my exact age. I worked over 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. I got back into this hobby to scratch that itch of wrenching on something. I definitely have slowed down, but nowhere near ready to stop. I think times were better back when. At least the social aspects were more one to one in person. Now, it seems folks dont have the time to say hello or take the time to get to know someone. Every day is a blessing now. Anyday above the grass is a good one, John!

Odd thing about aging is that many younger people don't keep up , what's worse is majority don't want to. Hands on creativity in disappearing daily. Retired in 2019 but active and enjoying Life. Very blessed and thankful. You have many things to share and teach to old and new alike. Hang in there my friend..

I couldn’t agree with you more buying locally has become so very important to me. One society is made us not talk to our neighbors. Come to find out. They’re pretty cool people out there. And like you, I know what goes into my food. I don’t wanna be all crazy or nothing, but package food at 57 scares the shit out of me anymore. It’s on the same level as fast food. Drive by please skip the drive-through completely.

First off John you need to put together one of your little songs I think it would be quite entertaining on this subject. Secondly I am 49 years old and I feel like I'm 59. This story could go on forever but, the short of the long is nine years ago I broke my back in a 1 to 1 rock buggy, 6 years ago I had my first orthoscopic knee surgery, less than a year after that I was hit by a car while on my bicycle and destroyed my knee that I just had surgery on , so now I probably got two lbs of nails and plates in my leg, and after that I had to have shoulder surgery after my leg surgery all from the car that hit me. Not to mention I had to quit work about 4 years ago because the eye disease I had as a child finally called up and made it to where I couldn't see much anymore and now I struggle to work on my RCS and I get very frustrated. Tik T.O is the devil. The world is getting worse. Our government has sold out the country. and getting old sucks and I don't think I'll make it to the average age whatever that might be. But all you can do and should do, is say a prayer every morning and thank God for what we do have ! p.s. I get scared too John.. and now that ive finished the video I see you did do a song. Cool

Bro,you need to sit back and smell the flowers.I sincerely enjoy your video offerings,I think you are one of the funniest ,intelligent, nice guys around. But seriously worrying about your health all the time can put you at a higher risk of getting cancer and probably abunch of other sicknesses. You put out a quality product line,I hope that feeds your family well.I do agree with you about the food we eat today but even that sounds like your growing your own wich is the way to go.I was raised on a small ranch and thanks to my dad we ate homegrown veggies and meat. I think that is whats keeping me alive to this day.See i broke my back when i was 24 (fell 6ft out of a tree)and due to medical problems related to that im stuck in bed 24/7(I used a wheel chair for the first 15 yrs).It is very unhealthyto live like this but i dont have a choice ! so i dont worry about it! i just do the best i can.Thats what im trying to get at with all of this.in my ripe old age of 57 ive learned that you cant sweat the little shit,And its all little shit.all you can do is be the best personyou can be.so i sit here and wrench my crawlers (ive got a growing number of shelf queens)if i get to go outside i run my cars and enjoy the time i get to do that.Your not getting older bro ,your getting better! if your ever in norcal hit me up ,well have a beer and run some rocks! yor a cool dude in my books.

Being of a similar background as yourself I’m finding old injuries are coming back to haunt me, but totally agree on shirts my old racing jerseys just don’t fit the same. You’ll still catch me at the bmx park though but takes me weeks to recover instead of days. Everything else I don’t worry about so much, As I’ve gotten older I’m finding it easier to just let go of stresses and live for the now. Thank you for sharing a transparent look into that mind of yours. It is nice when social media people take down the curtain and show a touch of what they are behind-the-scenes. Having said that when I turned 40 my warranty expired and everything from then on is just so much more difficult to spring back from :-) as for social media there is no equivalent to the serotonin stimulant and short term pleasure cycles that our kiddos are getting. As the old people say,”those good old days were these trying times” and historically speaking we’re better than we’ve ever been, but this new reality we live in is wicked hard, this may be the reason we this 35 to 55 group like increasing our imaginations while we drive these toy cars of ours.

John, you are spot on with this Rant! I agree with most everything you said. Hobby Farming is not my thing but, everything else is spot on right down to the Mr. Beast point. As far as the feeling old, I’m 51 and did a career in the military. The regular required exercise kept me feeling young way into my mid 40’s but it also wore out my joints. I had to get Large T shirts myself after I retired from much the same reason as you. I know daily routine exercise is the answer, but is the pain from it really worth it. That has slowed me down since I retired. From the military, now I find I have free time to wrench on rc cars. However, it seems to be, T
Too much time. But, with that I am a dedicated customer as that I only run Holmes Hobbies motors. I love the revolver and now that it’s quiet with your V2 and V3 ESC. OMG it’s my go to motor. I am still waiting for an ESC that will run a 2 speed transmission like in the TRX4. But for now it will have to be a mamba x with my revolver in that rig. To keep from retiring and selling your company make it a family business… ok
Have a Great Day I love your products.

I'll be turning 40 this month and I fully agree with you on everything. I rode bmx when I was younger and I was the go big or go home type. I hit all the big jumps and jumped down the biggest steps I could find. I had so many broken bones, concussions and several knee replacements and bounced back. Now that I'm older,my entire body feels the pain every single day from abusing it in my younger years. I'm fortunate enough to have a great wife who understands and is always there to help me out. I agree with you on the public school thing as my son is going to be 4 and we're on the fence about home schooling or public school. Each year we make the comment we are getting older, or are the trucks getting that much better as we need to stop and take more breaks. Back in the days of the orginal rtr honchos, the batterys would die so we had to take a break and change them. Now they climb better and we don't, they go for hours and we need a few trail snacks and breaks.

After 30 I wasn't quite as bouncy as I once was, but it wasn't until post 40 that I started to feel like I was getting old. I've been wearing large shirts for decades, but they still fit pretty well MOST of the time. Some are definitely smaller than they used to be, though. I'm about 10 or 15 pounds heavier than I was at 30, but I'm a LONG way from overweight. I've been in 32" waistline jeans since I was about 17. A 32 is a bit more snug now, but still fits. Now Mr. Beast sells candy bars, has a Beast Box at Zaxby's, etc... It's nice he helps some people, but it is all in the name of making more money, so... Get off my lawn!!! lol I'm selling my hobby shop because this industry kind of sucks to work in now on the retail side. Many companies have become a giant headache to work with. I'm not retiring by any means, but I am going to take a few month's sabbatical and then focus on manufacturing and consulting in the RC industry. I think I can get Gear Jammer RC going well enough to support me. I've saved and invested my whole life, so my money makes enough money that I don't need a high-paying job to live comfortably. I'm also not an extravagant guy and pretty frugal. Epstein definitely didn't kill himself. lol The "news" has been a joke for ages now. I think the 24-hour news channels are one of the absolute worst things to happen to humanity. They're just fear-mongering clowns. I mean, only 5 companies own ALL of the media...

And no, times were definitely better. Even simpler, makes things better. But our countries leaders are trash. Our country isn't what it once was. We aren't heading down a sustainable path either.

Well I have your typical age segment beat by ten years going on 65 this October. Yes I still drag race motorcycles by for fun anymore. @ 50 I could still outwork out ride thirty somethings but by 60 I've really seen things slow down

Hey Johnrob, 57 here soon to be 58, since my late 40s body aches started to appear , less tolerance to dumb drivers, everything seems expensive now, i still love the rc hobby, i wrench on my rigs at least once a week, retirement seems like a dream now with how things are expensive now, uncertainty for sure on my mind, just keep working for me on my future.

I broke my leg in 2014 in ebike accident, took me 3 months tog et out of the boot and a year to learn how to walk somewhat normally again. It was a very real reminder of my age. I could walk off anything as a kid lol :D

You're a great person. Know a ton of technical stuff and in this video you seem to be a deep thinker with great humor. But you are not old! I'm a medical professional, having my own little buisiness and will get 56 this year. I don't feel old, in my profession you (psychiatrist) you are getting better every day you go open eyed through this world. Collecting life experience is a great thing (Camus wrote about it). Just keep your body and your brain in good shape just with challanges every day and stay curious. And don't stop working. We are the same species since the stone age. Means: stop working means starting to die. This will be the way, we all will go, but in western culture (living in Switzerland) people stop working at the age of 65 and that is just b.s. Just go on, you make a great job, death will come and nobody knows when. Maybe tomorrow.

Lmao retirement what's that. I've never had a " job" I've always provided someone else a job. I've retired three times now. Extreme type A personalitys may " retire" we never stop working we just work more hours for less income.
Tomorrow isn't a given for anyone. Each one of us must make the most of every day no matter what your circumstances.
