Learn to knit socks using 2 circulars method of knitting in the round.
In this tutorial we will walk through each step of knitting socks on 2 circular needles including: casting on and setting up, knitting a heel flap and gusset, knitting the toe, and how to close up your toe using the Kitchener Stitch.
This tutorial does not have a written pattern to accompany it. If you want a written pattern I suggest that you use Vanilla Socks on Magic Loop by Crazy Sock Lady Designs that can be purchased on Ravelry & Etsy. (Links below) The layout of how the socks are worked up are the same as Magic Loop. (Needle 1/Needle 2) In the tutorial I will be knitting a size medium from this pattern. If the amounts needed for Small or Large are different from the medium I will put the info at the bottom of the screen.
Pattern is written for Small(Medium, Large) - Circumference 8-9”(9-10”, 10-11”)
A Note on Sizes: The sizes listed are based on the foot circumference and not the foot length. I recommend choosing a size that will allow for 1-2 inches of negative ease to get the best fit. You will knit the sock to the length that you need in order to fit.
If you would like to purchase the Magic Loop pattern to follow along it is available for only $2.00, you can do so here:
    Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
    Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/80298608...
Keep in mind if you use the Magic Loop written pattern the times in the pattern will not be the same as for this tutorial - see below for the times for this tutorial.

Finally! Recognition that there are people who use two circular needles with socks. I was taught this way and love it:)
I actually like it better than magic loop!

My favorite, thank you. A helpful tip to me too was to use a wooden needle for one of your 16" so you know the difference between the front and the back, using the sharper needle for the back of the sock to make picking up stitches easier.

Thank you so much. I bought a pair of knitted socks, minus the toes. They came with yarn and NO instructions, needles and just safety pins holding the stitches. They had been done on 4 needles! I was able to finish them from your video using circular needle that I had! Love them! 😊

I have been watching this video over and over while I have been crocheting a ginormous ripple afghan, got that finished yesterday. Today I started this pattern and method and have completed the rib and 6 rounds for the leg, I am so excited!!! It looks like it is supposed to look and 2 circulars are so easy to use!!! I so enjoy listening to you, Kay, you don't say umm every other word. lol! Thank you so much!!!

This is by far my most loved method of knitting socks. I 've tried DPNs, Magic Loop (not a fan), Addi CrasyTrio and this. This is, for me, the easiest method to control the tension and is very quick. Thank you Kay for introducing this method :) Happy knitting :)

Thank you. I have never knitted a sock before. My local shop advised me to use two needles, but I would never have had success without your help. I managed to irradiate the hole at the heel edge by picking up my last stitch from two rows below beyond ‘the slack’. I have a 4/5 UK foot size and knitted 25 rows after the heel for the foot before working the toe. I didn’t have your fancy ruler😀. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for such a detailed video. What is the advantage of using 2 needle instead of magic loop? Thanks so much!

I don't think there really is an advantage honestly. It's just a different way of working in the round. And some people prefer not having the long cable to deal with on 2 circs versus magic loop.

@@CrazySockLady Thanks so much for your insight. I happened to be working on a sock using magic loop on 24 inch 2.5 mm needles, so since I had a second set, I transferred half the stitches to the second set. One minor difference I can feel, is that I seem to have a little more cable available so that I’m not pulling so hard to knit the last stitches on the opposite needle. It makes it a little easier on my right wrist (I knit continental style).
