@@Wisconsin_Fisherman I watched a youtube video of some guy letting a large leech suck blood out of his arm and the leech grew 10 times its size and as thick as a hot dog. I would love to have a leech that big for jigging for Walleye or Lakers . Just need to find away to feed them that does not include my arm . Ps Can you get big leeches out of a lake in stead of a pond . Have you tried ?
Hey buddy! 'Sconie guy myself here. Curious if most of these sort of bigger dingy ponds hold leeches? Not a bad call trapping your own. Big fan of minnow trapping personally, bait can add up big time by the end of the year. Good luck out there!
I would guess the scent from your bait sinks down in the water, attracting them to the bottom on your larger traps. Your first style traps force them to go inside the trap rather than sit on the outside since there are not holes letting the scent out the bottom. My 2 cents anyway. I'll be trying this at some point.
Honestly I'm pretty sure the ones outside have already eaten their fill and just like the smooth surface because it's easy to hold on. I found much more success using flattened pie tins folded into a W. Because I used traps I would always find leeches tight in between rocks and the bottom. So my guess is that the folded up traps are better because they feel secure inbetween the folds.
Another awesome video. Been enjoying your videos a long time,. But really interested in the leech videos. I love ice fishing and would think leeches would be a great bait. I'm curious on how to keep them alive. Any suggestions. Thanks.
Great video man, I get the excitement haha. I started trapping them this year and I found a pond that's got some jumbos in it. Why do you think it is that there seems to be more on the outside of the trap than inside? I never seem to have any on the outside of the pie tins.
I wish I would’ve had to option to watch you sorting them, how you store them, if you were to sell them how you did with that. Great video though, made me think about doing it myself too. Hopefully my father and I can hook into our first walleye this year.
Congrats you definitely have some Fish Bait / Good job!!
You should totally get a squeegee to scoop em off the tin traps, plus! It's been super satisfying to see ....
I got one in the new videos it works perfect!
Nice catch ,i only get small leeches in my pond . I have to look for a new pond . What do you feed them while in the fridge .
Nothing just keep fresh water

@@FishingwithfreindsinAlberta I have not tried that yet, but definitely going to in the next few days
Wow, I'm impressed! Good work and thanks for sharing the information. Dave
I was pleasantly surprised too!

Right I hear ya! Minnows have way more regulations tho
Free bait always the best .. I love picking crawlers from the yard on a rainy night. Free free free lol
You bet!
The earlier the better when gathering leech traps
Keep the small ones for panfishing.
After how long do you go to check and collect the leeches
I need to find a pond i could try this on!! Awesome trap!!

Kyle I’ll give twenty bucks to swim in that pond. Lol I have seen that many leaches since the debates. Nice video
Haha I'm good!
that's awesome, mabey more holes 🕳, on the bottom, and star fish the hole's
that way on the inside its like a pointy star.
You should really try beef kidney. It holds up so much better. Also the black bag I told you about works great
I didn't see your reply when I commented lol
Very cool sir to see the variation, best of luck to you and tge family.
Thanks, you too!
Nice video buddy. I'm going broke buying leeches all the time in Minnesota. Don't even get me started on shiners lol.

Thanks! Just keep them cold and change the water regularly
Leeches will ball up no good in colder water especially winter ice fishing.
@@jaybeans2198 thanks
The most danger criminals should be thrown in this pond with hands and legs tied
Awesome video Kyle! Can you find leeches in rivers as well or are the mainly found in smaller ponds?
Mainly in small ponds
Nice Kyle. Bass love em to buddy.
Thanks 👍
Dude that's awesome

I think the liver juice was seeping into the ground, any more luck with your jumbos!?
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman nope they started to disappear in early July, but crawlers have been 🔥
Those tin duct pieces look like they are galvanized, maybe the leeches don't like sticking to it (?)
May we use plastic bottles in place of tin?
Waiting
Yea

Me too!
Ever trap for mud minnows?
I have not
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman similar...just need a cage trap , bread bate, right pond.
I love these leech videos. How do you store them at home?
I would imagine he just refrigerates them but I’m sure there’s more to his process
Garage floor in buckets with bottles of ice
I tried this by shell lake, huge leeches
Nice!
How do you store your leeches and how long can you keep them alive?
You can keep them alive for about a month in the fridge in a bucket changing the water daily or every other day
I am trying a 1 gallon bait bag out in my pond.
where the best stops to put leaches traps
Do I win jelly beans of I guess right? About 1000 leeches on that haul
Close to it I’d say! Haha jar of leeches for you!
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman 😆
I wonder if fish arent eating some of the leeches off the top
Great method
There are no fish in this pond
They were all crawling out... get there at sun up and you'll score
You bet this year will be a different story!
Miranda, Esmonde, White videos
Put a rick in the tin for weight
I have a lot of medical leeches and I would like to sell them
Kyle, can we not use meat in these traps?
You can use dead fish they also work.
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman thanks
How y'all fixing those leeches 🤔
I reckon I'd rather just eat the livers 🤓
I blame the Atrazine 😏

bait for fishing haha
