Mine too, I currently have 16 in my garage, I have no intention of selling any of them. I like the idea that I can reach into my drawer and pull out a key and that is the bike I'm taking that day. In fact I'm going to be looking at a new one tomorrow. 2024 or 2025 dunno yet.
I don't know how many times someone has told me they didn't have a title, but they are easy to get. I tell them if they are easy to get then go get one and then I'll buy it.
How I sell my bikes: find a bike I want, rush to list my current bike, bike I wants sells while I wait, find another bike, drop the price on the one I’m selling, drop the price, drop the price, lose money on the sale, have less than what I need to buy the bike I want, end up buying something worse etc lol
Rider's Share is a great idea, especially as the potential buyer. I "thought" I wanted a HD Road King Special, so I rented one from a guy for the weekend. The guy renting it out to me was indeed trying to sell it, but it wasn't for me. Instead, I went for an Indian Springfield Dark Horse. Luckily it just cost me a weekend of rentals to find out versus the $20K.
@spitescorner my first bike 93 cb750 knighthawk i bought for $900 needing a carb rebuild, fixed it up and road it for 5 years, apartment manager backed into it and knocked it over and totaled it to pay me out $2200 after buying it back, fixed it for $100, it got stolen... ie walked a block and i recovered it just after filing a report, ended up selling it for $2700 after buying my cb1100
Good advice there Spite for selling a bike. Pricewise , I think a lot of people who have done their homework on the bikes value tend to ask 5 - 10% over the going price ( which would probably be lower than a dealership price ) in the hope they will get nearer what they would like for it. If you can buy the bike you want for less than a dealers price then you feel you got a fair deal.
Agreed on prett much everything you mentioned but just like with cars, I wouldn't buy a "rental bike" unless a very significant drop in pricing in commparison to an "owner's bike". We all know that it's going to be tested intensively without supervision. It'll be redlined, probably ridden where it shouldn't be, basically ridden carelessly. Renting a bike can be an interesting business model but to me, as a buyer I will take for granted that it's been beat up pretty bad and will reflect what I'd be ready to pay for.
Almost all my extras I plan on getting will bolt and swap onto a newer model. Street Triple 2024+. I've already got an Exhaust and have a windshield on the way. I've got planned, a Rear Rack, replacement levers (clutch lever is broken), radiator guard and a few other bits.
C'mon Spite, you haven't done cross continental trips with KLR yet! You need to take her from Texas-to-Alaska via California, Go across Canada, then bring her all the way down to Patagonia. Then you are allowed to sell her :D
Never lower your price, until the prospective buyer makes an offer. If somebody asks what your bottom dollar is, give him a number that’s higher than your asking price. When he points that out, act confused for a second and then say “okay, yeah, I’ll take that” as if he was making an offer.
A buyer may toss in a below asking price on the off-chance you'll take it. Don't. If you give them things that are wrong\ need doing, then they have legit reason for lower price, otherwise stick close to your guns, maybe haggle "for cash". Do not hold the bike back without a deposit.
Maybe. I have noticed expensive bikes that are "garage queens" are quite easy to get at way below asking price (which is often already quite low); these riders already have a garage full of motorcycles that they need to make space for. Forget the riders who "know my bike's worth" because they aren't serious about actually selling their bikes. I also avoid riders who modify their bikes. Chances are they add the mods' prices to their bike, and then it also becomes way too much trouble to deal with them. So many times I'll see a rider trying to sell a modified motorcycle for more than what it was new. The converse is also true; the last couple of times that I've sold a motorcycle I've made sure to sell it stock at under what others are selling similar bikes. These bikes are sold within days. My last bike was gone within 4 hours of posting. Could I have asked for more? Yeah, but I do sell for about what I paid for.
I understand the dealer about the bike not being clean and everything.. but if I'm doing all that work I'm not taking it to a dealer. The guy almost said "bring me the bike ready to sell, i don't want to do anything, I want free money".
more advice: never bend over backwards to fit someones schedule, never ride it out to someone so they can see it, never let anyone test ride it unless they give you the cash in hand, never give the cash back untill they bring you back the bike the same way you gave it to them, give em a passenger ride for a little if they want to see how it runs, never negotiate online
No way in hell is some stranger taking my bike out. Hey how long have you been riding...a couple years....here's the keys to my 230 hp Z H2....have fun. R.I.P. 💀
I'm in 100% agreement with you. I don't even let people I know ride my bike - or borrow my equipment, electronics, whatever - because people can't be trusted. Especially with expensive things that belong to others.
I'll give ya $3.50 for it today. Can be there in an hour or so. I know you are a tough bargainer, I'll stop by buckees in new braunfels and pick you up some jerky too.
Mods DO NOT add value to a motorcycle or a car, don't tell me that your foot pegs from so-and-so are 150USD and you'll discount that from the asking price if you keep them. The only mods that DO add value are the ones that have to be done, like the ones that Spite mentioned, mods that are "must-do's" will add a little bit of value. Flush blinkers in a gixxer do not add value
Seriously enough with the rideshare. I’m with you 90% except half the video was an advertisement and it’s also bad advice in most cases. I literally had to check out after five minutes because of the freaking ad.
Interesting comment. I used rides share in July for four days. Excellent experience! I just book a bike for next week for four days also. I did not know Spite had them as a sponsor, but from my point of view I think it makes sense for him to have them as a sponsor both of this specific video and overall. Excellent service and easy to use from start to finish.
It suuuuuuuuucks having to do a bonded title. Anybody even thinking about it....use a title service instead of doing it yourself....much easier and faster.

So far my strategy for selling bikes to to let them accumulate in the garage and not sell them.
This has been my strategy for the last year.

"Takes only a few minutes to take the stickers off" unless your nex. Would take that boy 18 years.
Where I live you cant ride in winter so my rule is to buy bikes in fall and sell in spring. Usually never fails to at least get your money back.
Don't sell bikes. Pay a homeless man $20 to "steal" it.
Insurance fraud is bad, m'kay

You can tell everything about the condition of the bike (and the owner ) based on the condition of the machine.
Selling a perfectly good KLR to get another bike makes as much sence as selling a perfectly good pair a shoes to get another pair...
I can't bring myself to sell my klr, It would be like selling my dog

Is Whitney doing OK? She isn't putting any videos out recently. She used to do videos with you so I thought you could check on her.

Mileage is going to affect the value of a bike the most... that's why it's best just to buy brand new and not sell it, just ride it

Easy, I don't sell my motorcycles anymore, I keep them.
How do you handle it if they wanna test ride the bike? Im afraid they will wreck or drop it. How to handle this?
Either have them rent the bike and then Riders Share's insurance covers it, make sure you have cash in hand. Then if they wreck it they buy it.
