      I agree. Too many shill reviewers either like everything. Or simply, they never mention any fragrance that they would dislike. This destroys credibility.

    I wish influencers would mention what they don''t like more. I don''t have to agree obviously but it makes the reviews more honest and helpful. For example I like Born in Roma Yellow Dream which you don't but that's ok and I value you view even if it doesn't match mine. Keep it up.

      Most influences justify their dislikes with explanations like "it didn't work for me, it's not bad by and itself." Well this is disingenuous. We can't think of ALL fragrances as nice, or blame the unsuccessful experiences on our chemistry.

    I have to agree with When The Rain Stops. What a drab. The last decent releases from them were probably Matcha Meditation and Whispers in the Library. Love these kinds of vids Sebastian. Pretty much why blind buying has become an art form for me. It takes months just to make a decision, but by then, I'm pretty confident that I know what I'm getting into. So does that make it blind? 🤔 I guess not. Sorta. It does make it more rewarding though. And the collection certainly doesn't get out of hand. The worst kind of disappointment these days is probably a redundancy. Remedied by overspraying! 😄

    • @BingoBangoBongoBOOM
      @BingoBangoBongoBOOM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, I specifically clicked on this video because I recently bought Ralph's Club.
      I ended up returning the parfum for the Eau De Parfum, but otherwise I think it's pretty great.
      I think Sebastian has smelled so many fragrances, he might be able to pick up on nuances that others might not.
      On the other hand, it might be that he needs higher end fragrances to be impressed.

    You're much too kind! Some of these fragrance aficionados are obnoxious as hell. When they throw their little tantrums over someone's different taste, it tells you all you need to know about them and their stinky juice. Stay honest, appreciate it!

      @Ekiboy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are afraid to speak badly of the brands because that could affect chances of getting free bottles or paid promotions. So they are shills. You can see these "reviewers", it's like they have never even tested a bad fragrance.

    I am so hurt about the Ebony Wood being in this list....😩😩😩 I respect your opinion so much. But, I love this as a unisex fragrance. It's my favorite Zara fragrance besides Cherry Smoothie. Was scared for a moment when I saw "Imaginary Authors" pop up in the list. But it was a different offering. You turned me on to Fox in the Flowerbed. Simply intoxicating stuff. I can't wear it, just too feminine for me, but I've made gifts of it to several ladies.

    A disappointing blind buy for me is one that is 1) highly recommended but turns out to be a skin scent on me. 2) Just reminds me of something (even a criticism that someone might have offered that I can't get out of my head) such as it smells like dirty socks or b.o. etc.
    I think the problem is I have been the victim of unrealistic expectations. When I go to a store I like to sample as many as I can without wearing out my welcome.

  • @gregorystanton6150
    @gregorystanton6150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hands down my worst blind buy was Guerlain L'homme Ideal Extrême. Pleasant enough scent, absolutely zero projection. I have to put my nose right on my skin to smell it, my husband can't smell it, no one seems to be able to smell it. It's not a super-expensive fragrance, but I've got others that cost far less and perform far better.

    I do enjoy When the Rain Stops really well. For me it smells really like the smell of when the rain stops when i’m on holiday. Here in the Netherlands it rains a lot, but after the rain is doesn’t smell nice. But when i’m on holiday in Switzerland of Austria and it is raining, it smells so different. And that smell after the rain stops in other countries then here in the Netherlands, thats what I got from this Replica scent. Really like it

    I liked this video, it validated my feelings on the two Maison Margela frags. I have no idea what they were trying to achieve with Autumn vibes, total scrubber! I feel the same about the Billie Elish frag too, very pretty bottle, but I couldn't see myself reaching for it under any circumstances. I very much like her as an artist but wouldn't buy a full bottle of that frag. I regret buying 10am Flirt from Kieran, It's not horrible but I've owned the scent for 3 years and only wore it once :(

    Don’t worry Sébastien! I just started my fragrance journey and I can guess that I will meet your taste about 50% of the times. Firstly, I have weird taste. Secondly, I don’t have your masterly nose. And I live in Sub-tropical Mississippi where I can’t try many fragrances you recommend until late fall. The fun is in trying, discovering and that’s why I love you! Yesterday, I was trying a fragrance that I ended disliking and, sitting in my doctor’s office, I was hoping she didn’t get the stink. Well, she liked it! How fun!

      @DarlingNikki2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I am so over all the ambroxan/amberwood/ambrofix etc. notes in (mostly) male marketed fragrances these days! I can smell that sludge from a mile away and it's tiresome! It truly does ruin the body of so many fragrances and I don't know the rationale behind why so many perfumers use it now. I guess it's supposed to be some kind of 'catnip' for women (not me lol) but enough! I also wish these note pyramids on sites like Fragrantica would be more honest and instead of putting 'amber' put the actual aromachemical compound being used instead. I get sinus headaches from amberwood (someone on Fragrantica rightfully called it screamwood lol) and it sucks smelling it when I was expecting a more comforting, warm scent of real amber.

    I don't mind those kinds of videos at all. It's refreshing and fun to know about well known or popular fragrances out there that did not work well for you. You may be surprised how many people can relate to your experience. But people should take it lightly and not take offense. Every fragrance experience is personal.

  • @omarblue
    @omarblue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love those videos. They are so fun to watch.
    I stopped blind buying after few disappointments. I have to sample any fragrance before buying even if it is only 10 dollars.
    My biggest disappointment was lemon line. I am avid fan of citruses especially lemon so I got this because I was not able to sample ti, expecting a huge dose of authentic smelling lemons, and I got so angry by the lemon note in it cuz it smells worse than dish washing soup. It is so bad and synthetic I could not stand it, and on top of this, the fragrance dries to a generic mossy base that I did not care for.
    After trying several Mancera fragrances, I discovered that I am not impressed by any since I always look for natural authentic smelling notes and Mancera is known for its synthetic notes to boose the fragrance performance.

    I don’t understand note pyramids in designer fragrances anymore. So many recent releases list all these notes like vetiver, clary sage, lavender, and they all come out smelling like sweet and nondescript messes.

    I’m so glad I bought Replicas 10 mini sample set first. I ended up buying the big bottles of Beach Walk, By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, Bubble Bath AND Whispers in the Library. Whispers in the Library was a blind fomo purchase. Also disliked Autumn Vibes and When the Rain Stops. Not sure about Coffee Break yet.
    You. Bought. A. $900. Blind. Buy. !! Wow😳. I don’t feel so bad about mine now 😂 (Kilian Black Phantom - which fortunately smells great on my husband *whew*. ).
    Also, I received my Kilian, Love Don’t be Shy yesterday and because I’ve never smelled the original, I absolutely love it! Like CRAZY about it. I’ve made quite a dent 😂. Glad I never smelled the original. However, today I received Be Layered Caramel Overdose and I’ll be damned it smells AND performs as well, if not better than Kilian. I never believed the hype but it’s true.

    I used to blind buy because I started collecting during the first wave of Covid and no fragrance stores were opened. I was going largely off what TH-cam reviewers were talking about and ordering blind online. The first big name blind buy I did was D&G The One EDP and when it first came in and I smelled it, I was so disappointed. I didn't like it at all. Because of the hype and the fragrantica rating, I thought I might as well just get the 150ml bottle. Eventually, as I tried it more and more, eventually my nose got used to it and I started loving it. I blind bought Lalique Encre Noire Sport for the same reason, but that one also didn't do it for me at first but I kept trying and eventually I came to like it. The top three that I never was able to get used to and enjoy were Jaguar Gold, Cuba Gold and Versace Man Eau Fraiche. Now, I do not ever blind buy. If I can't smell and sample it first, I won't buy it.

    • @Ekiboy1
      @Ekiboy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The One EDP is really hyped up. To my liking (I own it) it's just ok, somewhere in the middle. I got a comment from a girl that it smells like car refresher, so not sure if it's that much of a sexy fragrance that reviewers push it to be LOL.
      Anyhow, I rarely blind buy and if I do it's because of both comments and note pyramid. Even then best thing is to get a sample, make your own judgment and only then buy.

    I enjoy a majority of the fragrances I've bought, but I've bought too many fragrances which I don't like and if I knew that's what they are like, then I wouldn't have bought them. Some of them are: Rogue Perfumery "Chypre Siam", Boucheron "Jaipur Pour Homme EDP", Ted Lapidus "Altamir", Rasasi "La Yuqawam", the modern formulation of "Michael Jordan Cologne", Zirh "Ikon", Nikos "Sculpture", Paco Rabanne "One Million Parfum", and more.

      Hi Regis 👋 what don't you like in Chypre Siam? Asking because I am interested but I'd have to blind buy 🙈 how do you find it?

    • @regismonkton
      @regismonkton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nastyfyme When I bought that fragrance, I didn't know yet that I don't like civet musk in fragrances (I might be allergic to it in addition to hating the smell of it), and I found "Chypre Siam" to have a prominent civet musk note. "Chypre Siam" smells like it could be from the Victorian Age. I was born in 1982, and I think I smelled something like "Chypre Siam" in the 1980s/early 1990s when taking a tour of a convalescent center for the elderly. From Rogue Perfumery, I enjoy "Mousse Illuminee", "Fougere L'Aube", "Bon Monsieur", "Derviche" (but I don't prefer "Derviche 2"), and I might like some other ones too. If I were you, I'd get a discovery set from Rogue Perfumery and hopefully you can sample all of the ones which I enjoy. Manuel Cross seems to be a nice person with good customer service.

    I recently purchased a niche fragrance from an independent, domestic fragrance company for 100-110$. It was clearly advertised and labeled as an eau de parfum. I sprayed myself 6 times. After just 2 hours, it completely disappeared. I'm done with them. If they would have correctly advertised it as an eau de toilette or eau de cologne, I never would have purchased it. I tried it two more times with similar results. (You are definitely NOT too harsh; you are honest and reliable.)

    So I think it was 95 or 96 when I first purchased Wings. I was 17/18 years old, and the only other fragrance I owned was Cool Water, the splash on bottle. Wings had a ginormous scent bubble and sillage that lasted for days. It was massively strong, and it garnered a lot of compliments for me. I tried a sample of it a few years ago, and it doesn't smell anything like the original from the 90's. As far as MM/Replica goes, I really only liked Jazz Club, and At the Barbers. Every other one I have smelled was just ok, mediocre to me. Until Autumn Vibes! Hahaha. I actually love Autumn Vibes, probably my favorite Replica. It projects heavy cedar off my skin, but there is a weird kind of play dough note beneath the cedar. Again, this is why collecting is so subjective with fragrance. I've recently been addicted to Rook by Rook Perfumes, and Angelos Creations Olfactives Fougeriste and Yassemi, which I just received.

    The one time most hyped Bentley Intense Man 🥺. Had such high hopes for it but ...oh well, you lose some, you gain some. Labdano Nero by TT is amazing though 👌

    I hate those blind buy fails. I just received my travel size bottle of Oiseau Rare by Givenchy. I don’t know why, but it instantly made me nauseated. White florals don’t always sit well with my nose.

    Yes, I do sometimes blind buy and probably 20% are not a love at first sniff. I will wear them a few times over a period of time. If I still don't like it then I sell the expensive and give away the cheapies Different strokes right, I'm sure some people hate some that I like and love the ones I dump.

    I never blind buy, but I do buy a lot of samples. Many of them smell quite good, but not full bottle worthy. I still kind of randomly wear the samples.

    Worst blind buy for me was Eccentric Molecules 01. I think, it's the higher concentration of ISO Super. It doesn't work on my skin. It also triggers my migraines, unfortunately. Although, I smell it on other people and it doesn't seem to bother me.

      I’m with you that smell was traumatic! It isn’t an over statement, it made such a horrible imprint on my smell memory that I can now pick it up in so many delicious fragrances but it makes my stomach turn as soon as I smell that ingredient. It killed my most favorite fragrances for me. I’m trying to get Desensitized from it. BAD BLIND BUY

    All of my purchases recently have been recommended so blind buys for the most part. Raghba, Wanted By Night, Qaa’ed, Ameer Al Oudh intense Oud, Encre Noire Sport, 4711 Remix Cologne, Versace The Dreamer, Versace Man Eau Fraiche, Franck Olivier Oud Touch. Most of these come highly recommended by fragrance reviewer but I was highly disappointed when I finally obtained these fragrances.

    I think the harshest, absolutely horribly smelling, disappointing blind buy I ever made was Bijou several years ago. It has such a strong urine smell to me that I honestly do not know how anyone can bear to wear it, let alone like it, but as mentioned, fragrance preferences are highly subjective.

    Miss Dior Rose Essence had no presence or projection, even for an edt. I bought it as a compare & contrast to the simplicity of their Rose N'Roses edt.

    Best blind buy: Sultan Vetiver by Nishane. Worst blind buys CK One Shock by Calvin Klein, Insurrection II Wild by Reyane, Pino Silvestre by Pino Silvestre, Lalique pour Homme EDP by Lalique (I don't like the hay note in that one), and Lagerfeld Classic by Karl Lagerfeld. Luckily I was able to sell all of my worst blind buys. :)

    I wore the new Armani code yesterday and I wasn’t too impressed. Redundant to the edp which I have and paid half the price but rarely wear anything from the code line in general
