Overwatch 2 Tanks get INSANE buffs in the mid-season patch

- The mid-season update just dropped in Overwatch 2, and it is a bit of …a bomb. Not only because of the Transformers collab or the return of the summer games, but because of some balancing changes that will be discussed heavily in the next few days …or even weeks.
In his latest director’s take, Aaron Keller addressed the state of tanks, agreeing with some of the feedback that has been going around in the community. According to that blog, one reason for those ongoing issues is that the tanks need some individual tuning after the season 9 changes and lack “tankiness."
Aaron promised they would address these issues, and today's update is their first attempt. However, It might need some more work. Let’s have a look.

i kinda get the type of game they're trying to form. they're making tanks this pillar that the team has to work around, and to try to break the other teams pillar. the tanks are not meant to lose 1v1s against any other role because theyre being depended on by their entire team.
Yeah, if they aren’t going to go back to 6v6, they need at least some way to make tanks relevant. Because with only one tank, if the entire team starts pumping damage into you, you really should not drop from full health to dead in a matter of two seconds.
That also gives the rest of the team the incentive to try and protect the tank while the tank protects them. Because if the tank falls, all fall.
I thought the same thing, but I really dislike this direction tbh. I want every player to feel somewhat equally important to the game.

Yeah. I sorta understand but I don't like it because this puts so much pressure on 1 player and also depends on other players to not die. @@JaysMCworld
except tanks weren't balanced like that in overwatch one, so you have character designs that dont work with that (ball or hog)
Okay so they buff tanks to the stratosphere, every other role feels like shit so they either nerf tanks again or they buff dps and support again

The Pharah nerf is dumb. They should have given her damage falloff (or rockets that slow down the further they travel). Conc was simply part of a nice combo that felt good, it was a finishing tool on a cooldown. This genuinely encourages more long range spam, which is what makes Pharah so awful to play against rn.
Or just give her rockets damage falloff like soldier does in tf2. You wanna use super powerful rockets that can 2 shot most characters? You gotta be way closer to do that.

nothing is stopping blizzard from returning to a balancing format they supposedly have more experience with.
"overwatch 2" has been "out" for about 2 years already, and yet the game is not nearly as balanced as the original game while it was abandoned.
the game went from being tactical and strategic to just being which team can spam abilities and ults the best.
This is just like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound. The reason tank is bad is because of 5v5. Single tank player has no off-tank to relieve/absorb pressure so they just get bombarded by the enemy team. Tank problem will not go away unless they fix the ROOT problem which is the format 5v5z
Its almost like they have completely ignored everything people have been saying they want.

I see where people are saying mauga got nerfed…. But it’s a buff…. Maybe if it was down to 2.5 sec up time on cardiac, but he is already strong, now his damage reduction got buffed and his charge damage got buffed? He got buffed overall.
And while tanks feel better to play by literally being raid bosses…. It doesn’t fix counter swapping or hyper focus the tank issues. We all are aware those are the biggest issues for tanks and arguably these changes don’t fix those issues.
Also pharrah barely got nerfed.
While tanks got GiGA buffed… it makes playing support and dps feel like ass. I think I’ll skip this patch and either wait for them to tone this down or if they say 6v6 isn’t coming back I think I’m gonna be gone for good. I don’t wanna tolerate this toxic gameplay relationship with the devs not understanding what made this game fun.
I still don't see the reason for increasing their damage? Like why?

💀 I think it’s been like 3-4 months since bastion was changed , but I think the tank changes may cause more bastions to be used

For those who don't know, everyone with armor will now have a slight ping of metal sound when hit, and energy absorption sound when hitting shielded heroes. This is noticeable best with Ball as he has both.
HOWEVER! Orisa seems to be broken as her armor doesn't have that same audio effect; it still sounds like hitting health.
*edit: Technically Ram got stealth nerfed will his Nemesis form now having an 11 second cooldown

Have you seen the space ranger teaser on Dorado in the attack spawn? Also the "Some of your hero customization is unavailable in this instance" message is back and last two times it popped up was before the hero trial weekends for Venture and Mauga.

Blizzard has no idea how to fix their game, especially with 5v5 format. How far are we going to go before they realize it?
I think too many chances at the same time is never a good idea
I think rein should keep his 250 charge wall damage but gain an immediate 60 damage on catching a target in your charge and maybe 40 damage for clipping a target to reward smart charge cancellation

okay so after my first testing… I am extremely confused. on dps and support I am barely noticing the changes, gameplay isn’t really different and I have been performing as usual, perhaps even a bit better, but as a TANK I am severely underperforming, like straight up getting obliterated, and I have no idea why because tank used to be by far my most consistent role. I really have no idea what’s going on or how this remotely makes sense. (aside from one game where I was just consistently crushed by sigma rock) maybe I’ll understand as I continue testing more

Definitely felt those changes while playing last night. I did have more fun on tank, but also found it so much harder to down tanks. Also, open Q was basically all GOATS 😅😅😅
These changes are... insane!! The Sigma change sounds painful, but as someone who loves to play Sigma, I do not mind xD A lot of crazy changes, curious to see how it feels once I play a few games! GREAT VIDEO!!!
I haven’t been more discouraged to play after seeing patch notes before. Just give us 6v6 already.
With only one tank on the field they should be much harder to take down than they have been. I agree with these buffs. If these buffs are bad then they need to go back to 6v6

Gigabuffed the tanks again?... At this point just give them 1k hp each in white health. By the devs logic, if my tank dies my team loses the team fight because their tank can't die and can just walk over everyone... I'm sure this patch will work out.

Tanks are overturned now.
And the devs said that they keep an eye out and if needed make changes again. I´d say it´s better to overtune them and then go down so you can rather tell what is too much. The lifesteal for Mauga for example sounds way to much with 100% even if the duration of the abiltiy is decreased.

I have to praise Blizzard. They’re doing such an amazing job at making the game worse with each patch.
i dont even need to finish this video because form all the changes ive seen this is one of the biggest L patches ive seen.
they dont understand that tanks wasnt the direct problem it was how much was coliding into the tank that was the issue thats why people have been crying for 6v6 since everything currently is hitting the tank every cc, dmg debuff, healing and deny abilities and it makes play making impossible. making everytank gigabuffed just add to the whole issue of welp theres nothing i can do still but now i have slightly more nothing i can do. i play rein and this armor change just goes to show they know nothing . doom never needed direct buffs it shouldve been nerfs to characters like sombra, mcree etc that makes it impossible to play
I love how they sent all the health values to the moon only to do this shit. These damage numbers are super bloated and silly. At least with the old health values it was easy to tell who killed what at a glimpse. All they had to do was knock down everyone's damage numbers but NoooOOOO😒. And now, after all this, they think... JUICING THE NUMBERS TO MACH FUCK is the answer??(and bob)

They removed oneshots from tanks and even said they want to do this but Rein has still remained the only tank that can oneshot most heroes in the game on cooldown. Now they added more.
I am fine with it though. If there's any oneshot a tank should have, it's Dva bomb or Rein charge. At least we don't have the old Doom punch from OW1 days when it oneshot all 200hp heroes.
@Minisynapse Even old doom punch didnt one shot Reaper. Not only did they incorrectly scale the health up for 300 HP heroes, but they now also reintroduced them to being one shot again.
There is no justification for being easier to hit if you aren't more survivable.
