  • The Automotive Technician: Anatomy of Coil On Plug
This VE Commodore misfire was a great opportunity to show in video the basics of what Sam and Jack on Page 20 of the current TaT magazine explain regarding Coil On Plug ignition testing.
We favor diagnostic evidence over guesswork to ensure the problem is solved as quickly and economically as possible.

Hello mate. I don’t understand to whom I should take my for a few problems.
MAF sensor was not working I changed it thn fuel composition sensor showed up and another vode for cylinder 2 misfire. And these codes are in permanent section. When I changed MAF sensor thn it happed. I am driving HOLDEN OMEGA VE 2013 LPG. And the replaced sensor was taken out from holden commodore petrol, not LPG. Can you tell me why it happen and to whom I should take it to

Best way to test them is your tongue, 20kv hits the sweet spot, 40 is bitter

Sometimes my ve omega seems like its missfiring when I start it after not driving for a while and its cold. The entire car shakes like a washing machine on drugs and it idles like death, I turn it off and turn it back on and its perfectly fine, weird. I do get a stability control error but am thinking the car shaking trips this off. I don't see how turning it off then back on fixes this.

Probably resetting limp mode off, I have been flicking the key off on my old beast for years.

Did you end up fixing this mate ? Missis car is doing the exact same thing!!!

@@andrewmcalister9773 Yes, well sort of. I now keep my car in a garage and problem went away (weird). I'm thinking it might be a sensor, probably sensor on exhaust that gets too cold or gets wet/dew on it and freaks it out. Watever the problem is, it is something to do with being cold and dewy. Seems like half the pistons are having a miss fire when it was happening. turn on and off and problem would go away. Disconnect batery and see if you get any new error codes when car is not doing this weird morning shake, thats what its like mate, the car has DT's and just needs its morning fix. I had this problem with a 2006 ve and a 2010 ve.. exact same problem which is weird because the 2006 and 2010 have different engines, both cars did it when it was middle of winter and when it was frosty

@@andrewmcalister9773 Twist to the story.. Did it pretty bad a while back, wasn't even cold and even after restarting it continued for a while, thought I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Noticed my pcv valve and houses were clogged up with oil and the valve was blocked causing oil to come out the intake for the crank pressure, this caused a lot of oil to be forced through the air intake and cause a mess from the throttle body to the valves. I cleaned as much as I could with a rag and some wd40, then I used an intake/valve cleaner spray to spray in the air intake with the motor running. Thought I would then replace all spark plugs as they have never been done since I owned the car. As you know in order to remove the spark plug you need to first remove the coil, I noticed one of the coils was damaged and looked slightly burnt. replaced the coil, cleaned out the pcv check valve, cleaned all the pcv hoses, replaced spark plugs.. All seems good so far. Be interesting to see if it happens again, I'm actually thinking it was the coil acting up mainly when cold

Hi and thanks for this awesome clip.
I recently fitted a mace 12mm spacer to my LFX
Problem is: my revs now fluctuate around 500-580
Would this he either a coil, throttle body or spacer vacuum leak, thanks again, Brian

@@tunasand44 Hi brother, was the misfire consistent on a particular cylinder?
My car is due to oil-change in like few days & I had a contentious misfire on cylinder no.: 3 paired with hesitation under load, this only happened probably few minutes after I poured a 300ml Liqui Moly engine flush help
