    I run Travellers 15/40 regular Dino oil. So does my brother he has 550k original everything. Just water pumps and 3 transmissions. Im at 285k and my motor oil is cleaner than his. I use motorcraft only. 5-6k changes. I can still see hatch marks on the dip stick at 5k. His not so much at 8k+ oil changes. I screwed on a filter in between changes to get motor clean. At 10.00 at wall mart. I tried the Donaldson filter napa crossover it did not work on my e99. Hit oil pan. Idk why. I wish camera was a little closer Clint.. you rock man.

    I just found your videos. I love the common sense approach.
    I have a question that never really gets asked.
    My truck is used for hauling my truck bed camper on the occasional camping trip and running to home depot and landscape supply.
    I may put 1,500 - 2,000 miles a year on the old girl.
    Is there a "time" that oil should be changed? Or with modern oils is "mileage " intervals ok?
    I have an idea that when diesel oil gets contaminated, it can start creating acids or alkalis that can start to eat into bearings.
    Your thoughts?

      Our plow truck that only gets used in winter We start it and run it once a month good run I'll send a guy to get all of us lunch to thank every one for there commitment to the shop what ever they agree on The truck will get a 40 to 50 mile run and I change the oil 4 times a year then Oil left to long will turn acid ect like you state So this is what I do and the truck has never left us down and its a 95 psd with 420k on it never touched the injectors

    Great video! Thanks! You mentioned early in this video the panel above the oil pan and behind the seal is easy to remove and reseal when you are at the point of transmission and flywheel out of the way. So are you saying if oil is leaking from the back of the pan as well as the rear main then it is easy to fix without having to pull the motor in order to remove the entire oil pan? You don't have to reseal the entire oil pan to stop a leak occurring at the back of the pan only? Just want to make sure I understood you correctly on this.

    • @alexkram
      @alexkram 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I removed and resealed that plate. It seals against the oil pan on the curved part at the rear so if you reseal this plate you will renew the oil pan seal there. The funny thing is the parts don't actually touch, the silicone layer is about 1/8" thick between them! I used the Motorcraft RTV like Clint did because this area really depends on good silicone sealer. The Motorcraft RTV is stickier than normal RTV and I'm glad I used the genuine stuff. Not all RTV is the same and I'm a believer after this.

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we do it obviously its on a lift but we disconnect the trans put it apart about a foot and handle the seal then push the trans back in and install Back in the day I would drive the truck up on 4 ramps remove the transfer case then use a trany jack slide the trans back worked quite well

  • @alexkram

    Are you purposely not lubing the sleeve/seal contact area? The stock rear main seal that I pulled off had "do not prelube" stamped right on it. The Ford factory service manual does not mention lubing the seal but it does not say not to lube it either. Just asking because I normally lube seals before installing. I just installed a Timken 5723 just like yours and didn't lube it just like you did but now I'm wondering. I haven't installed the flywheel yet so I'll gladly redo the seal if needed. Thanks for the detailed video.

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Do not ever pre lube these seals It causes premature failure sometimes with in a few 100 miles WHY The oil or lube one uses heats up and rubs the seal out of tolerance on the outside edge and slowly works its way inward toward the oil side and sometimes even tears One would think this makes sense to pre lube but don't do it

    Totally off topic. My chip went bad, im 400 miles away from home with single shot injectors and a PCM tuned for splits. Will I damage the singles driving them?

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The singles need a tune of 11 degree's in timing the split or double shot only needs 1 degree in timing ,,,, 400 miles back home will cause issues

      I tried a large filter that napa matched to big Donaldson. It would not fit on my e99 for some reason. Hit side of block/ oil pan. Idk. I use motorcraft and I can still see hatch marks on dip stick at 5k oil change. Inside of motor is very clean at 285k. I spun a filter at 1.5k 3 times in between oil changes. I wish I can put a pic on here to prove it.. seriously.
